A funny little picture book that is about a dragon. If you have a little one who doesn't like to bath, this book is for you. Sloppy takes his first bath and learns it is fun.

Cute little book about the importance of taking a bath.
Liked it and will read it to my son in the future.
Still, I'm not sure this will become a favourite. It misses the certain kind of humour I love in children's books.

After spending the day jumping in muddy puddles, Sloppy wants a hug. But Dewdrop says first he will have to take a...BATH! Sloppy is nervous because he's never had a bath before, but he tries to be brave. This is a sweet story that could be a good bath time story or to help reluctant bathers excited to take a bath.

NOTE: I received an ARC copy of this book on NetGalley. I received no incentive to read or review this book other than said copy of work. The review below contains my own thoughts and opinions. Special thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the free copy.

Do you like this book?
Yeah! I like the dirty dragon. He doesn't want to take a bath, but I love taking baths. I want to play in the mud and then take a bath!

What's your favorite part of the book?
When he's scared that the sharks or crocodiles will nibble his toes!

What do you think of the cover?
I like it because it has a dragon!

Sloppy Takes the plunge is a great book about a dragon who gets messy and is scared to take a bath. He's scared something is going to bite his toes! Finally the little girl shows him that it's okay, and he finds out that he really actually likes baths!

This is a great book about trying new things, getting over fears, and just being brave all around.

The artwork is so cute and the writing is really fun!

This is my second Sloppy book read and I cannot tell you how much I love and adore this little dragon. I am hoping for many more Sloppy adventures! The watercolor and ink illustrations are charming. At the end of the story there is a lesson learned, baths can be fun!

The plot for this story is VERY simple. Easy for even the very young to follow. Charming illustrations.

3.5 stars. Let me start with how beautiful the illistrations are! Super cute! The story was pretty cute as well, but not a family favorite at my house.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of this book, which I voluntarily chose to review.

Sloppy would like to have a hug but he's covered in mud. She tells him he needs to clean up first. He tells her tree dragons love mud baths. So, no hug until he's clean.

NorthSouth Books and Net Galley let me read this book for review (thank you). It has been published, so you can grab a copy now.

He really wants a hug so he goes over to the pond, gathers his strength, and jumps in. And, guess what? Feeling clean is great! And now he can get his hug!

Sloppy the tree dragon has never had a bath! His friend Dewdrop is a bit standoffish because Sloppy has been playing around in a mud puddle. And while playing in the mud is fun, the muck is all over Sloppy. But Sloppy is a bit afraid of taking a bath. It is something new and he’s unsure about it. There might be sharks or crocodiles in the water. Then, a mother duck and her ducklings come along. The ducklings are afraid to get in the water too. Sloppy decides to get in the water to show the little ducklings that it is not too bad. And he gets a bath! When he is done he feels brave and AMAZING!

This is a great book in helping toddlers transition to bath time in the “big tub.” Sloppy looks like a plush toy. The ducklings resemble rubber ducks. And the pond has a drain plunge and floating basket of sponges, brushes, and bubbly soap. Julian designed this book to be friendly to toddlers. Because doing something new can be scary.

This is a delightful and sweet book about a dragon that conquers his ablutophobia (pathological fear of washing or bathing). What's the motivation? His desire for a hug from his small friend. Then he discovers bathing is great fun. This book is good to tell little kids who don't want to take their bath. It can be a mom's helper.

In the end, we see the feeling of victory and delight Sloppy feels because he faced and won over his fears. That delicious feeling we all feel when we rise above our fears and grow more confident in ourselves. Even our self-esteem grows.

The characters are well drawn, expressive and extremely funny. We can't resist liking them.

A delicious book about friendship, overcoming one's fears and personal hygiene. :) And the efforts we are willing to make to get affection, a really good, tight, strong hug!

Highly recommended for:

those who like children’s books and dragons;
kids who don’t like to take a bath;
parents always searching for an excuse (as if we needed!) to hug their little ones.

Sloppy and Dewdrop are back in 'Sloppy Takes the Plunge' by Sean Julian. I didn't love this one quite as much as the first one, but it's still a really fun book for little readers.

Sloppy the tree dragon likes rolling in the mud. The problem is that his friend Dewdrop won't hug him when he's all "mucky." She insists that he take a bath in a local pond, but Sloppy has his misgivings. When he finds a group of younger creatures who are also afraid, Sloppy realizes he needs to lead by example.

I'm glad there is another book in this series. I love the illustration style and the stories are just so darn cute. Sloppy and Dewdrop are the kind of friends I wish I'd had as a kid.

I fell in love with Sloppy and Dewdrop (his fairy friend). This book is about a dragon who never had a bath and was afraid to take one. Finally he tries to be brave for a family of ducks and decides he loves it. The illustrations are gorgeous and very detailed. This is a great bedtime story for young children (especially if they don't like baths) and a good beginner reading book. Not long and flows very nicely.

"Sloppy takes the plunge" is an adorable, fun, and light hearted read about a dragon who doesn't want to get clean. Until his friend refuses to give him a hug if he's all mucky!

His friend Dewdrop helps him realize that baths are actually quite fun when they encounter ducklings getting scared.

It's a fun, lighthearted read and the illustrations are very cute and detailed.

This is a sweet little story that might help the most reluctant little dragon to take the plunge into the tub.

I felt like I was missing things with this book, since I have not read its predecessor. Therefore, I do not feel it is a good fit for the children in my library. At picture book age, they need to be able to follow the whole story, regardless of having read the prequels or not.

Sloppy loves to be dirty. Dewdrop does not. What they learn is that sometimes it can be fun to set a good example and try new things. Sloppy shows the ducklings how to be brave and take a bath and Dewdrop got mucky...all from a kiss.
A great book to show children what can happen when we try something new and demonstrate courageousness and bravery.

I really loved this story, the illustrations were so precious and the story was so sweet. A dragon learning to get over the unknown of bathtime and finding the fun in a good bath!

The sweet tale of a tree dragon’s reluctant first bath is sure to encourage anyone to “take the plunge.” Darling illustrations and an engaging story with several messages: getting clean can be fun, helping others makes your own hard task easier, and a hug is a fine reward ... always! 5/5
