Reinvent Your Business Model by Mark Johnson provides a simple framework to identify the business model that your company or organization operates from and identifies the ‘white space’ or growth areas that are ripe to exploit.

I have also read Business Model Generation by Alexander Osterwalder and Yves Pigneur and find Johnson’s 4-box element framework easier to apply immediately than the nine (9) building blocks described in Business Model Generation.

The 4-box framework elements consist of your customer value proposition, key resources, key processes and profit formula. The key takeaway for me was Johnson’s emphasis on clearly identifying a customer’s “job-to-be-done.” The success or failure of a business rests with understanding what your customer truly needs done. This book does an excellent job of hammering that point home.

In this always changing business environment., this book should be a must-read for anyone working in a startup or who wants to start his or her own startup. The rules change almost everyday and in order to keep up you have to adapt as well. This book gives you some times on the "how".
