This was a decent story and I somewhat enjoyed both the hero and the heroine. Liv and Sebastian were well-written characters. However, nothing really stood out making it a great book.
I voluntarily read an advanced review copy of this book.
I thought that as usual when it comes to Erin McCarthy novels it is very well written. I just wish that it was a little bit longer so that things feel less rushed and you can connect with the characters a lot more.
Overall not bad just wish it was longer
Kindly provided with an ARC in exchange for an honest review....
This was Sebastian and Liv's tale. Werewolf romance with a twist. Enjoyed the story line just felt like I needed more. Short but sweet read. Glad everything worked out in the end.
Many thanks for this opportunity. Great read Erin x
Later peeps x
I hate to give this low of a rating, but this was originally part of an anthology so the book is very short. The story was too rushed.
This was a very short story that throws us into a world where werewolves are real and not unlike those we’ve read about.
Liv is stuck in a relationship she never really wanted. Having been left suddenly and had all her money stolen by her ex-boyfriend, she stupidly accepts the offer of a relationship and housing from her ex’s brother. That should probably have been the first thing she should have fixed, but instead she doubled down and ended up somehow engaged to him. Why? We’re not really sure and the story is too short to really elaborate. Suffice it to say, Liv is a little bit broken still from the betrayal. Sebastian, said ex-boyfriend, ends up suddenly resurfacing in what Liv believes is a dream. Why else would she see him transforming from wolf to man? One thing leads to another, and, finally, Liv is forced to fight for her happiness.
As a short story, this did a good job of setting things up, but I wasn’t really in love with any of the characters. I tend to lean more towards strong female characters and Liv was decidedly not one. The elements of premonition and some more real life examples of being a werewolf in the current world were interesting, though.
Quick and sexy read. Nightmares mesh with reality when Liv realizes that secrets have taken over her life. Will the future be what she thinks? Will the past come back to haunt her? Will strength be her greatest asset?
I received a copy of The Howling only from Net Galley in exchange for a review, so I am not commenting/rating either of the other stories.
It took me about halfway through this novella to understand what I was even reading, and for a shorter story, that was a pretty good portion of the story to wonder. The werewolves in this story were a little different from a lot of other werewolf stories I have read, which was fun. I enjoyed the ending.
The Howling is a werewolf romance that is on the dark side and full of danger, secrets and passion. Liv and Sebastian are two very strong, compelling characters that draw readers into their story which starts off with a tension filled suspenseful moment and proceeds to keep readers glued to the pages as they wonder just where the story is going. The romance is sweet with blazing hot passion heating up the pages but the relationship has a major drawback, Liv will have to learn the truth about herself, Sebastian and Sebastian’s brother. The story is really fast paced and packs quite a punch for such a short story and a thrilling read to enjoy when readers are short on time.
Liv woke up from a nightmare and it was the fourth in as many nights, she had dreamt of wolves. A nocturan scene that had started six months ago sporadically but now seemed to have taken over her sleeping thoughts. Scarborough/Scar was in the other room working at his computer making even more money. Liv owed Scar so much and she didn’t want him to know that the thought of marrying him terrified Liv. Scar asked if the nightmare were about him -Sebastian who was his brother and had been Liv’s lover. She had loved Sebastian deeply and wholly and he was the man who refused to marry her and the man who had disappeared six months ago taking what money she had been able to accumulate. Leaving Liv destitute and heartbroken. Scar had picked up the shattered pieces of her heart and offered her a real future and Liv had said yes. They were to marry in ten days, Scar hadn’t pushed her to sleep with him but on their wedding night. Tomorrow Scar was leaving for N Y for four days. Mary Fran was Liv’s best friend and they were in the cafeteria at the University of Wisconsin.. Liv had one more more semester of nursing school and she would be done. Liv had been murdered twenty years ago when Liv was eight. . And Liv had been an only child and since then Liv had felt alone. Sebastian and scar werewolf shifters and even though she didn’t know it and never shifted so was Liv and she knew nothing about werewolves. Sebastian now snuck to get a glimpse of the woman he still loved-Liv. His brother had tried to kill him and thought he was dead and then took his girlfriend.. Sebastian knew Scar was gone and went into Liv and had sex with erh. Liv thought she had a dream until she seen the semen on her leg. Sebastian. After Sebastian had left he ran into his cousin Nick who told him the other wolves hadn’t known what Scar was gonna pull and they didn’t think it was right. But somewhere along the way i lost interest in this book According to the Legends if Scar mates Liv his power will double.
This was a novell and I liked it at first maybe it was a little rushed for me. Then I realized the format wa that of Lion KIng the brothers one evil who was named Scar the nickname mary had used when referring to Scarborough. Plot just too similar for me. So I am sure others will like this it just wasn’t for me.
A quick mindless read. The characters weren’t really developed, I know time is limited because it is a novella but no one had much depth. I didn’t feel Liv or Sebastian’s pain and I didn’t feel Scar’s greed. The most interesting things that happened were in Liv’s dreams, a book about that bride would make a good read if done well. The ending was quick and easy, and it fit because there wasn’t any real tension in this book.
This book was too short to really care about. I'm not a fan of science fiction romance. This just seemed way too rushed and ridiculous for my taste
3.5 Stars
The Howling by Erin McCarthy is the story of Liv and Sebastian.
Sebastian was almost killed by his brother but now he is back. Sebastian has his goal set of getting Liv back and making his brother pay for what he tried to do.
This was a quick werewolf romance that I did have somewhat a hard time making a connections with the characters.
This is a very quick read about werewolves who are fighting over the same woman. It's about Liv Lugaru and Sebastian. Liv has been having the same dream for months and doesn't understand the significance of it or how her life is about to change again. Sebastian was almost killed by his brother around the time her dreams started. Since then he has been in hiding and that left a hole that his brother stepped in to fill in Liv's life. Now he is ready to come back and not only take control of the pack but to get his woman back.
I had a very hard time getting into this one. The premise is good. It just seemed rushed to me. Like it was always meant to only be a short story so in order to keep it that way a lot of things were skipped over or just crammed together. This story has a lot of potential is just fell flat for me. The characters definitely had the potential to become something great, I just don't think the book was long enough to get them there unfortunately.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Kensington Books for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Holy cow was this short. I feel like I have missed a lot of the story. It kept me interested but I would have liked a little more to it. It felt rushed and I would have liked a little more depth to the book. I liked the characters but I feel like I didn’t get to know them enough to even say that. It has a lot of potential and can I say that it was a good start. I think I would be upset if I had paid for this book…no I guess not think, I know I would have been upset if I paid for this book. I even hate writing this review because from what I read I liked it and am just wishing and hoping for more.
Liv thought Sebastian left her and had taken her money. She moved in with his brother and was going to marry him even though she did not love him.
She keeps having dreams about wolves. Sebastian did not die and is watching Liv to make sure she is safe.
She doesn't know that Sebastien's brother tried to kill him to take over the pack. They all thought he died.
He's finally stronger and ready to take back Liv and his pack. Sadly this is a very quick read Novella. I enjoyed it. I really like when Sebastian showed up the first time after she thought he was dead.
I received an ARC for an honest, voluntary review
Unfortunately when I got a little ways into this book I realized it had been renamed and was originally contained in The Beast Within anthology. Since I didn’t want to reread the same material twice I stopped at that point. So.....this is a short novella which is okay but seemed like it would have been better if it was fleshed out as a full length book.
My thanks to NetGalley for providing me with an arc in exchange for my honest review.
I really enjoyed this novella, my only wish was that it was a full length novel, the little bit of story that was there was good.
This book is about shape shifters (used to be my go to genre to read) and back stabbing brothers and the women that one brother loves and the other one wants for himself, and a women who has the ability to see visions of the past and the present and future.
Such a good read, just would have loved more, but all the same worth a read
The Howling (Kindle Edition) by Erin McCarthy ... I enjoyed this Werewolf story...I only wish it was a little longer...Liv Lugaru has dreams of a bride and wolves...Sebastian (Werewolf) loves Liv...is missing...Scarborough (Scar) brother of Sebastian and a bad guy who lives up to the name Scar... Thanks to NetGalley for allowing me to preview this book. Nightmares, uncertainty, tears, hot sex, danger and a HEA.
An excellent story by Ms. McCarthy. First I've read in a while from her but it was so worth it. Good writing. Solid paranormal romance.

THE HOWLING by Erin McCarthy is a paranormal, erotic novella that's entertaining for a fun, quick read.
Liv Lugaru keeps having nightmares about wolves chasing her. She wonders if it's her pending nuptials to the man who doesn't quite make her heart race. But it's not his fault; his brother, Sebastian, her once true love, left her six months ago, and she's been dealing with the fallout of his thievery and lies ever since.
But all is not as it seems, and as the moon waxes, Liv learns who she really is and why Sebastian left...and why he's come back.
McCarthy writes hot scenes, and the passion is evident between the leads. The story is fun but not all that deep, the action fast and the between-the-sheets moments intense. For an exciting if short paranormal romance, pick up THE HOWLING. It's well worth the read.
