Four and a half
This book is the second in this series and follows on from the life changing events in The Phoenix Project. Jenesis is a scientist who had her work altered and abused in order to create the all powerful Morphates. Now seven years later she finally has the chance to do some good but can she redeem herself? Her new employer Kincaid has a very special reason for giving Jenesis a laboratory to work in but his more basic instincts are driving him hard and will he really be able to keep Jenesis safe ?
This author always draws me in with her beguiling prose and incredible imagination. This idea of genetic mutation of humans has been done before ( think New Species or The Breeds ) but the author brings a fresh approach that is intense right from the first page. Yes it’s a little shorter than I’d like but the characters were vividly written, the scenario and danger leaves room for more stories and most of all if you want hot and heavy then this ticks all the boxes.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

This reads like a novella intended to set up a series.
Jenesis conducted research to cure cancer, but instead, her boss corrupted it and a new species called Morphates was created. Think Lora Leigh with this, with the species of part human part animal.. While thinking of the Breeds series, add in some elements of vampires stories, a tiny bit of werewolf stories, and you'll have a good idea of what this story is like.

The ending is set up to presumably hop right into the next book in the series. This will likely be a hit for fans of Laurann Dohner and Lora Leigh.

I really enjoyed this book. Jacquelyn Frank as always sucked me into the story and sent me on an adventure with her characters. The editing, as usual, was excellent as well and must be mentioned.

Dr. Jenesis DeBruehl is a scientist who seven years ago was doing her best to cure cancer. Her brilliance led her to the amazing discovery of tagging and isolating good cells from the bad, but like cells people come in both shades and Jena’s boss was definitely on the darker side. He stole her greatest achievement and used it in an abhorrent way. His meddling and human experimentation resulted in the creation of the Morphates.

Far stronger than the average human and walking the fine line between humanity and turning completely animal Morphates are the new race the planet can’t kill. Kincaid Gregory once was an officer of the law is now the Alpha male of Philadelphia a Dark City and one of the creatures the Dr. Eric Paulson created in his lab before the government shut the man down. Kin is on a mission to find out just what makes his Morphate side tick and how to deal with the new population of creatures he’s the leader of.

Jena has been offered a job on the inside working directly with the creatures her research helped create. Atoning for her sins is more than just an obscure idea for Jena, she’ll work herself to the bone to give something back to the people her work injured, even if she hadn’t been aware of how her research was being used. The new world she’s found herself in is familiar, a lab is a lab although her new job has a lot more money being thrown behind it than the last. The difference this time is the man running the show, Kincaid Gregory, is a sexy as sin Morphate she can’t seem to stay away from.

He knows he should stay away. Jenesis DeBruehl is a scientist and he hardly trusts them as much as he can be killed; so, not at all. He trusts this woman even less, given her research is the reason he’s dealing with the growing intensity of his animal side. Yet, there’s something about the blonde-haired woman he just can’t seem to look away from. Perhaps it’s how she walked right into wolfs den determined to do her part to help or how she doesn’t back down from a challenge even when that challenge come in the form of his several hundred-pound Alpha male self. Perhaps with the woman’s help they’ll actually be able to come to some new discoveries regarding the Morphates, as long as his animal side doesn’t claim the woman like it’s begging him to do.

The book’s plot was excellent and I thoroughly enjoyed it I really enjoyed the new take on the paranormal side and the scientific element to the fantasy. It was a great bend and I loved it. I’m thoroughly curious about the Morphates and can’t wait to learn more about them! Ms. Frank’s work speaks for itself as always and look forward to reading more from her. I absolutely love working through her novels!

The Science of Pleasure, is a great sci-fi romance novella. It has a lot packed into the pages which makes it hard to put down.

4.5 stars

This was a brilliantly written action packed story with a great plot and interesting characters.
I would have given it 5 stars if it was longer. I'm hoping this will continue with its own series as I'm eager to find out how the story will progress and I plan on reading the first one, The Phoenix project, to find out how it all began.
