Another absolutely wonderful read from Lynn Cahoon. This is another fun series with likable characters that you want to know more about. The story-line was interesting and it kept you guessing as to who killed Heather.

This is the second book in the Farm-to-Fork series. Angie Turner returned to her hometown in Idaho after her grandmother passed. She lives in her Nona's house with her St. Bernard puppy Dom, Nona’s chicken, and Precious, a newly born goat. She runs a new restaurant, the County Seat with her friend Felicia.

The cousin of Angie's sous-chef Estebe is accused of murdering his girlfriend. Angie decides to investigate against the wishes of Sheriff Allen Brown. There are many interesting characters woven into the story along with glimpses of the Basque culture. Angie has a developing love interest in Ian who helps her in her sleuthing. The plot-line is interesting and it makes you not want to put down this book until the crime is solved. I'm looking forward to many more books in this series as well.

Killer Green Tomatoes is the 2nd in the Farm to Fork Mystery series by Lynn Cahoon. Having read book one I was excited to read this and was not disappointed..
When her sous chef's cousin, Javier, girlfriend of the month is found murdered he becomes the main suspect. Chef Estebe wants Angie to investigate. Yes, Javier is a womanizer but he surely is not a murderer, or is he.
As much as Angie has vowed to not get involved in another murder, she is again drawn into the investigation. Now in addition to searching for the murderer, she is also keeping an eye on her elderly neighbor, Mrs. Potter, who is keeping Angie on her toes.
There is mystery, humor , and a touch of romance. Cahoon does a great job keeping you up on Angie's friend and resturant partner, Felicia, her employees, her farm critters, and puppy Dom.
The story has a great flow and twists, turns, and surprises. I was guessing until the end.
I was given an ARC by Netgalley for an honest review.

In this second book in the Farm-To-Fork Mysteries, Angie Turner is diligently trying to add more dishes and get more suppliers for her restaurant. When her sous chef, Estebe tells her about his cousin Javier and the family farm, they head off to see what produce he had available. Javier is quite the womanizer and tries to make time with Angie. When Javier’s girlfriend, Heather, turns up dead, he is the prime suspect as they had just had a major, public argument in the local bar. Estebe asks Angie for help and she can’t turn him down.
This is a fun series with great characters. Angie is a smart, loyal, friendly chef and friend. She has a small farm with a goat, chicken and her dog. They are a hoot with actual personalities that add fun to the story. Angie’s neighbours across the street add a much of the humor to the book. Mrs. Potter plays a much bigger role in the story this time as she actually moves in with Angie for a week. The plot moves quickly and the mystery is solved in a very believable way. I love the small town vibe, the rumor mill that has Angie stepping out on her beau Ian, and the colourful characters. Another wonderful addition to this series that cozy mystery lovers are sure to enjoy.

‘Killer Green Tomatoes’ is the second book in Lynn Cahoon’s ‘Farm-to-Fork’ cozy mystery series. I gave it two stars, which for me means that it was okay. I haven’t read book one in the series yet, but I was really looking forward to reading this book set in rural Idaho. I was hoping that location would take a more prominent part in the book, but really this could have been set in almost any rural location for the small amount of time devoted to fleshing out the setting. That was a disappointment.

Angie Turner owns the new hot restaurant in town, the ‘County Seat’. She and her business partner Felicia have finally put together a well-functioning team both in the front and back of the house. Angie’s Basque sous chef, Estebe’s cousin Javier, is accused of murder when his girlfriend, Heather is found stabbed to death in the alley between the County Seat and the neighboring bar.

Estebe asks Angie for help in solving Heather’s murder. So between trying to find clues to Heather’s murder; keeping her restaurant humming; updating her beloved Nona’s recipes for use in the restaurant; and having her prickly elderly neighbor, Mrs. Potter stay with her for a week; Angie has her hands full. She’s also trying to find time to spend with her new boyfriend, Ian, and fight off the gossip-monger’s rumors that she’s two-timing Ian with Estebe.

Whew, that sounds like a busy plot, but the pace was too slow for me. There were lots of scenes about feeding the chicken and the goat, and keeping the St Bernard puppy, Dom, exercised. The secondary characters fell flat. Even Angie’s relationship with her boyfriend was stilted and without much warmth. On the plus side, I didn’t guess the whodunit element. The actual murderer surprised me. That’s always good in a mystery!

Thank-you to NetGalley; Lyrical Underground (an imprint of Kensington Publishing); and the author, Lynn Cahoon; for providing a free ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A strong second installment to a wonderful series! the whole concept of this series is so charming, opening a restaurant in a small town. The mystery was written perfectly, and the characters are well developed and this second book just added to them. I love the setting and the way the author's words just flow so flawlessly during the story.

Review:

The characters are well developed and well rounded. I like that all of the people working at the County Seat, Angie and Felicia’s restaurant, are like family instead of employees. You can tell that they care about and really like each other. It is not surprising that Angie wants to help find the killer of her sous chef’s cousins girlfriend, even though she swore she has hanging up her sleuthing shoes. Ian, her boyfriend, is a good guy and their relationship is moving along nicely. And I really enjoyed Angie’s houseguest and the way they interacted, it was sweet and added another aspect to the story. I feel like I could be friends with this cast of characters. And I loved all the animals that were included in this book.

The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and I was pulled into the story from the very first. There was plenty of talk about food (Angie does own a restaurant) but it was not so overwhelming that it took over the story. There is even a recipe in the back of the book for the reader to try if they are so inclined.

There are two mysteries to solve: a murder and a kidnapping. There were enough suspects to consider and clues to sift through. Throw is some twists and turn and red herrings and they are not easily solved. I had part of it right but not completely.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book provided by the publisher, Kensington Books, and NetGalley, which I greatly appreciate.

Great addition to an interesting series. Wide variety of characters. Several issues are causing stress for the protagonist. She does have delightful pets. A little romance, small town gossip and friendliness all add to the story. I am eager to read the next one.

Did Javier murder Heather? Angie doesn't think so so of course she has to investigate! I enjoyed the first book in this series chiefly because of the characters but also because of the rural Idaho setting. You'd be fine reading this as a standalone as Cahoon has provided enough (but not too many) details to put you right in the center of action at the County Seat restaurant with Angie and her partner Felicia. I especially enjoyed the local color and the information about Basque culture. Javier is the cousin of Angie's sous chef and an important potential supplier of tomatoes for the restaurant but more than that Angie thinks he's a good guy. Who did murder Heather? Well, there are a few twists but not too many turns. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. This is a well plotted and written cozy- I'm looking forward to the next one!

Killer Green Tomatoes by Lynn Cahoon is the second book in Farm-to-Fork Mysery series but can be read as a standalone.
Even though I haven't read the first book it was really easy to get into the book and follow it. I liked the setting and the characters, which are presented very realistically. It is well written and the story is interesting. It is nicely paced and well plotted. With many twists and turns it is a delightful and fun read.
Angie is trying to find that perfect recipe for fried green tomatoes and find a back up supplier, when her sous chef's cousin offers his produce. Before the agreement can be reached cousin is accused of killing his girlfriend. So Angie has no choice but to get involved and investigate, especially as sous chef is asking for her help. Between her two jobs she also has a new tenant, at least for a week.
Never a dull moment with Angie and her crew. Highly recommended.

This is the 2nd book in Lynn Cahoon's Farm-to-Fork Mysteries. Angie is looking for someone to supply her restaurant, The CountySeat, with summer produce. Estebe’s cousin, Javier, has a farm and it is selected to provide produce. Javier's girlfriend is found dead so he becomes suspect #1. Angie and her friends decide to try to find the killer to help Estebe and his family. This mystery gets more interesting in the middle of the book. This is a really good cozy mystery with an interesting mystery, friendship, and a little romance.

KILLER GREEN TOMATOES by Lynn Cahoon is the second book in the Farm-to-Fork Mystery series and is a worthy addition to a delightful series. Protagonist Angie Turner owns the County Seat restaurant with her best friend, Felicia, in the small town of River Vista, Idaho. Angie’s life centers on preparing delicious food and treating her employees like family. In fact, there is a very strong theme of family that is woven into both the plot and the subplots of the book, from her employees, to her elderly neighbors, to her adorable pets. You can’t help but love her giant St. Bernard puppy, Dom! I also greatly enjoyed the descriptions of food and cooking and how it connects families and friends together. Ms. Cahoon also provides an emotional connection between Angie and her deceased grandmother by involving recipes passed down. I loved her idea of creating a cookbook from those handwritten, food stained treasured papers!

With characters you can love and relate to, the story also contains a well-written mystery. When Angie’s sous-chef’s cousin is accused of murder and then disappears, Estebe begs her to find him and clear his name. The author weaves in bits and pieces about the Basque culture and the festival organized by Estebe’s family. There were plenty of suspects and a strong plot that kept the pace flowing and the conclusion wrapped up the threads of the subplots nicely. I look forward to reading more books in this series!

I really like Lynn Cahoon’s books. The second installment of the Farm –to Fork Mystery series does not disappoint.

The cover is adorable. The St Bernard is just saying “come on in.” The characters are well-developed, strong, and believable. Ms Cahoon also writes the Cat Latimer and Tourist Trap mystery series.

The twists, turns and misdirection were wonderful. Once again we are shown how everyone in a small town thinks they know your business or they just make it up and spread it around.

Angie Turner and Felicia Williams are a month into running their own restaurant in a town outside of Boise. Angie’s sous chef, Estebe has family that is under investigation for murder. Angie and Felicia along with the gang delve into the case.

Mrs Potter stays with Angie while Erica takes a vacation. This leads for some interesting episodes for both of them. I like how the author dealt with aging family members and friends.

So find out if Javier killed Heather. If not, then who did and why? I kept turning the pages to find out.

First I would like to thank Netgalley and Kensington books for the opportunity to read and review this book.

So far I have highly enjoyed all the stories I have read my Ms. Cahoon and this new series of hers (Farm to Fork) is stellar. In this latest book Angie is trying to recreate some of her Nona's recipes, while finding the best fried tomato recipes her sous chef Estebe suggested she visit his cousins farm to check out the produce. Angie loves the produce but she isn't too impressed by his cousin Javier. When Javier is then charged with murder Angie is drawn in to investigate.

I really enjoy the characters and Ms. Cahoon has a way of writing a story that draws me in quickly and I just can't let go until long after I have finished reading. I hope there are a lot more stories in this series!

Killer Green Tomatoes is the second installment in the Farm-to-Fork Mystery series set in River Vista, Idaho and featuring Angie Turner, owner of the farm to table restaurant, County Seat. The new restaurant is gaining a following with local reviews favorable and Angie is looking to add her grandmother's summer treat of Fried Green Tomatoes to the menu.

When sous Chef Estebe Blackstone suggests that Angie visit his cousin, Javier to negotiate for the purchase of tomatoes from the family's Pamplona Farms, Angie thinks that she's found a perfect supplier. However, upon meeting Javier it quickly becomes apparent that the playboy with a smarmy attitude is not well like by his Cousin Estebe or some of the other Basque community members.

When Javier's girlfriend Heather turns up dead, he becomes the prime suspect. Javier disappears and even though Estebe doesn't really like his cousin he asks Angie for help clearing his name. Despite her misgivings, Angie sets out with the help of her restaurant partner Felicia Williams and boyfriend Ian McNeal to track down a killer.

The author brings back familiar characters and introduces the feisty and often funny elderly neighbor Mrs. Potter, and Angie's Saint Bernard pup, Dom and goat Precious make brief appearances. I didn't like the first in this series so wasn't sure about reading this one. While I did think it was better than the first there's still something rubbing me the wrong way - not sure if it's the characters or the author's writing style. I will be on the lookout for the next in the series and hopefully the third time will be the charm that hooks me in.

I received an advanced copy of Killer Green Tomatoes from NetGalley via Lyrical Underground a division of Kensington Publishing. While not required to write a review I am more than happy to offer my honest opinion.

Angie Turner and the gang are back in the second installment of the Farm to Fork Mystery series and it just gets better! When her sous chef’s cousin is accused of murder and then disappears, Angie is asked to look into things. While she claims to just be a chef, and a fantastic one at that, she does have a knack for solving murders.

While Esteban’s cousin, Javier, was a ladies man with a long list of lovers, he might be a cad, but he sure didn’t come off as a murderer, so who killed his last girlfriend? All signs point to Javier, but Javier’s family and Angie don’t think this is the case. Between running her restaurant, the County Seat, and caring for an elderly neighbor for a week, Angie finds herself exhausted and overextended as she tracks clues and figures out what really happened.

Lynn Cahoon has a fantastic cast of characters and her writing transports you to River Vista, Idaho as you immerse yourself in the story. I loved her first book and found the second to be even better. Can’t wait for the next course in this series!

Killer Green Tomatoes by Lynn Cahoon is the second installment of the cozy Farm-to-Fork Mystery series. In this series Angie Turner has moved back to her hometown in rural Idaho after her grandmother’s passing and opened up a new restaurant, the County Seat.

A month has passed since Angie helped find the person who murdered Old Man Moss, the local dairy farmer and Angie really hoped she’d be out of the sleuthing business with a restaurant to run. However, Angie’s sous chef Estebe comes to her for help when his cousin, Javier, is accused of murder.

While Javier is not known around town as perfect boyfriend material Heather got the idea into her head that she and Javier were an item so when her body is found all signs point to Javier as a suspect. Angie however doesn’t think Javier actually committed the murder so she agrees to poke around town to see what she can come up with.

Having read both books in this series I do believe this one got even better than the first and I quite liked it too. Angie is a likable character with strong family values, there are cute critters galore being in a farming community, Angie’s elderly neighbor is always good for a few chuckles, for the foodies there’s all kinds of dishes and there’s plenty of suspects to keep one guessing on the mystery side of things. Count me in as a fan of the series as I will definitely be waiting for book three in the series.

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

We return to Angie Turner's farm-to-table restaurant where she is preparing for the summer season. For Angie, nothing says summer like her grandmother's fried green tomato recipe. Thank goodness her sous chef has a cousin who has an organic farm. Too bad the man's a Lothario. One who's latest girlfriend has turned up dead. The night after she and Javier had an argument. Now Estebe, Angie's employee, has asked her for help.

In the rule of most mystery novels, Javier had a lot of people who might have wanted to see him arrested for murder. Angie is reluctantly drawn into the murder. Adding that on to her regularly busy life as well as the fact that she's caring for her elderly neighbor while the neighbor's granddaughter is away.

The subplot wasn't really well developed and I thought it didn't needed to really be there but overall a nice addition to the series.

Three stars

I've read several of the books in Lynn Cahoon's 'Tourist Trap' series and thoroughly enjoyed them, so when I had the opportunity to read one in a new series, I jumped at it.

Angie Turner and her best friend, Felicia Williams, own and run the County Seat restaurant in Angie's hometown of River Vista, Idaho. Angie is the head chef so runs the kitchen and kitchen staff whilst Felicia manages and runs the front of house. Angie lives in the old Victorian house she inherited from her grandmother and has a small number of animals to care for: a little goat called Precious, an old black and white hen called Mabel, and her St Bernard puppy, Dom.

Angie is drawn into a murder investigation when a young woman is found murdered outside the bar opposite, and her sous chef's cousin, Javier, is the prime suspect as he and the young woman, Heather, were dating. The sous chef, Estebe, asks Angie to clear Javier because although he doesn't particularly like Javier, he knows that he isn't a killer. Along the way, Javier disappears, confounding the police investigation and making it difficult to move towards finding the killer.

Overall, I enjoyed this although I'm not wholly sold on Ian as the boyfriend, perhaps because I don't know much about him and he seems a bit 'flat'. I don't think he's American but can't figure out where he's supposed to be from. I imagine that's all covered in the first book, however. There's apparently a romantic triangle involving Ian, Estebe and Angie, but I didn't get that impression at all, mostly because Angie kept saying there wasn't one.

Angie can be a bit prickly but is driven by her passion for cooking and making the County Seat a success, which makes her a strong main character.

Killer Green Tomatoes: A Farm-to-Fork Mystery
By Lynn Cahoon
Lyrical
July 2018

Review by Cynthia Chow

As the summer heats up in River Vista, Idaho, Chef Angie Turner is focused on perfecting the recipe for her beloved Nona’s Fried Green Tomatoes. Not only would it help to complete the collection she’s gathering for a possible cookbook, it could also be featured as one of the rotating dishes in her Farm-to-Fork restaurant. Angie’s sous chef Estebe Blackstone is taking time off to prepare for July’s Basque Cultural Center’s festival of San Ignazio, but not before introducing Angie to his cousin Javier Easterly as a possible new source for fresh produce. She finds his fresh vegetables more appealing than the excessive amount of charm he exudes, which is fortunate as it seems that Javier already has his share of trouble with the ladies. When his latest girlfriend is found dead in an alley outside of the Red Eye Saloon, the police and gossip place him at the top of the suspect list.

Angie already has her plate full, what with running County Seat’s back of the house, raising a St. Bernard puppy, chicken, and goat, and inadvertently volunteering to care for her elderly neighbor. Angie can’t resist Estebe’s plea to help investigate though, especially since she already successfully solved one murder. The pressure to prove Javier’s dubious innocence pales in comparison to that from the local busybodies who have made it their mission to marry her off to dairy farmer Ian McNeal, not to mention becoming all-to-familiar with First Responders due to her well-intended houseguest.

This is a mystery sure to have readers’ mouths watering through the tantalizing descriptions of both Basque delicacies and comfort cuisine. Details of restaurant operations are as fascinating as the mystery itself, which becomes far more intricate and deceptive than one would expect. Angie is someone more than capable of conducting an investigation, yet her involvement is never too intrusive or gets in the way of official police work. Angie still struggles with the very insular, small-town atmosphere that has everyone in everyone else’s business, which is why she left town and rarely returned. It is also why she has the guilt of leaving to pursue her own dreams, especially since it is back home that she finally achieves them. Many will relate to this conflict of leaving home in search of independence, but all will enjoy this clever, fun, and delicious novel featuring a such a strong, likable woman.
