This was my first Mia Marlowe book, but it certainly won’t be my last. There were so many things I enjoyed, I don’t know where to begin! Upon first glance, this book seems to be another cross-class, Romeo/Juliet affair, and it is - but also, it’s not. The hero and heroine get to know each other and fall in love in a reasonable amount of time, not overnight. Their misunderstandings are resolved by talking and listening to each other. And the secondary characters are interesting enough for further books, but don’t once detract from the protagonists of this story.
My favorite choice by the author was to begin each chapter with a quote from either the heroine or the hero that never actually appears or is said by them elsewhere in the book. It was clever and charming.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
Lady Caroline Lovell is about to embark on her third Season and her parents The Earl & Countess of Chatham fear she’ll be permanently on the shelf if she fails to make a match this time. Unfortunately for them, that is precisely what Caroline wants! Curious and adventuresome, Caroline longs for a life of travel, excitement. If only she can remain unmarried until she turns twenty-one, Caroline will inherit her grandmother’s bequest and gain her freedom She has her future all planned out—until Lawrence Sinclair appears on the scene, intense, intriguing, and handsome, the man reminds Caroline of a caged lion. In fact, the more she knows of him, the more questions she has.
The first book in a new series & as there are five Lovell brothers hopefully they’ll each have their story. Lawrence's & Caroline's story is a lovely romance no spies, murders or intrigue, they don't hate each other, they aren't compromised, they didn’t get carried away with passion, they are simply attracted to each other from the start, especially Lawrence, & the more they know each other the more they like each other & fall in love. There are a couple of surprises at the end but overall just a pure & simple romance which was a change & a breath of sunshine.
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
I received an ARC of this book to read from NetGalley in exchange for a fair review. The Singular Mr. Sinclair by Mia Marlowe is the first book in her new series House of Lovell. Lady Caroline Lovell is the only daughter in her family of 6, growing up with 5 brothers has made her aware of the limitations women face and she has decided to remain unmarried because at 21 she will come into an inheritance from her grandmother and she has plans for adventure and travel. Then she meets Lawrence Sinclair her eldest brothers friend and travel companion who even though he is very quiet seems to exude danger and mystery. Lawrence is smitten by Caroline but worries that the secrets from his past make him unsuitable for her. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the rest of the series. Medium Steam. Publishing Date July 17, 2018 #NetGalley #TheSingularMrSinclair
When I am given an ARC to read and review it is always with the agreement that I will give a fair and honest review. Just remember that you can make all the plans in the world and have your future set out and then all that can be blown away in a whirlwind.
I really liked Caroline and Lawrence!!
Caroline has no plans to marry. She just has to get to her twenty-first birthday to inherit money from her grandmother. Only then can she pursue her dreams of travelling the world. Now she has to make it through her third season with no proposals and she is home free. Her parents, of course, would love for her to make a good match this season. Things have a way of changing when Caroline meets her brother's friend, Lawrence.
Lawrence and Caroline's brother have just returned from abroad-with stories to tell! Caroline is taken with Lawrence Sinclair right away and he, with her. She wants to hear all about his travels! Lawrence feels a magnetic pull and goes after Caroline. It's a delightful cat and mouse game for sure!
Caroline still wants to travel, but Lawrence fascinates her! Lawrence, on the other hand, doesn't feel he is up to snuff for Caroline. He struggles with that. But he is helpless to stay away from her!
The fun part is how these two finally come to terms with their feelings and figure out how to be together. There is family stuff that always plays a part! Plus the overall theme of women not being afforded the same freedoms to do what they want,as men frequently do. The story was paced good and I was entertained throughout!
The situation with Lawrence's uncle was almost a 180 from how it was in the entire book. It didn't seem believable-at least on the uncle's part!
I loved how this book shows that love is undeniable!!

With money to inherit from her grandmother, Caroline has no intentions of ever marrying; however, she her plan to convince her parents is still under wraps. When her brother returns from his travels with his friend, Lawrence Sinclair, those plans may never eventuate. There is just something about Mr Sinclair that Caroline cannot work out…..
Caroline is almost mesmerised by Lawrence. He is also overwhelmed by his feelings for Caroline but believes that she is too good for him, given that he may never inherit the earldom from his uncle.
As Caroline tries to prepare Lawrence for his arrival into society, she begins to fall in love with Lawrence. It was so delightful to see these two together. However, not everything goes to plan in this romance, making for an interesting read.
I received an advanced review copy in exchange for my honest review.
I struggled to finish this one. I put it down frequently. Lawrence was the best of the two main characters. I could not get interested in Caroline. The ending just wrapped everything up too neatly.
Enjoyed it
What I liked:
The writing style
The characters
Dual POVs
Part of a series: The House of Lovell
Standalone
HEA
I look forward to reading the other books in this series.
This was a light Regency romance. The hero, Lawrence Sinclair, is poor, but upright and steady. I found him a much more interesting than the heroine, Caroline, who seems rather spoiled. She yearns to travel, but really has no idea about what travel in that period would involve. She just thinks it would be exciting. Lawrence falls for her the minute he meets her. She finds him a bit ridiculous since he doesn’t seem comfortable in polite society. Then suddenly she’s in love with him also.
It all gets resolved very quickly with a couple twists of fate that seem more convenient than believable. I found the ending quite weak. We have this guy who is so very honorable, yet he . runs away with Caroline to Gretna Green. Lucky for him, the author came up with a totally unbelievable way to end off the story so everyone can live happily ever after.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received from Netgalley; however, the opinions are my own and I did not receive any compensation for my review.
I really enjoyed "The Singular Mr. Sinclair". It was a nice blend of historical and romance. I really liked Caroline and enjoyed her story.
A surprisingly good book well written and the story was very well told. I feel in love with Mr. Sinclair from the first moment that he made an entrance in the story.
I loved Caroline and Lawrence's story!
Caroline has no plans to marry. She is determined to gain her inheritance from her grandmother and pursue her dream of traveling. But that changes when she meets Lawrence Sinclair. She is intrigued from the moment they meet and her fascination with him just increases each time they are together.
Lawrence has been treated horribly by his family and has very little self worth because of this. When he meets Caroline, he is just as attracted to her as she is to him. But with no prospects of being able to support her, he has determined that he can never have her.
Can these two get the HEA with all that is in their path?
I'm excited to see what else Marlowe has in store for the House of Lovell series!
What was the accident? Did his uncle kill his own brother?
Honey, there's not much happening in Madagascar.
I don't think Frederica is that dumb.
I'm guessing he's a virgin.
Shut up, Horatia. Men can be nervous too, you know.
Horatia, I hope you contract consumption posthaste. At least then your "friends" will be free of you.
Whoops! Sorry, Madame.
She's a bit of a whiner. First she wants nothing to do with him, now she's upset because he got a life.
I like Billy.
Stop talking, sweetie!
I would have killed that guy too.
Mrs. B., he doesn't know the details because this house party is news to him. Get that through your head.
Son of a cracker! I knew they shouldn't have let the man stay.
Good for you. Better late than never.
A bit boring to be honest.
i liked the awkward Hero but it just didn't keep my interest.

A woman with a dream of seeing far off places and life changes her dreams. A comforting romance with interesting characters. This romance is more realistic than some and is appreciated in the myriad of "above and beyond" romance books.
Mia Marlowe's "The Singular Mr. Sinclair" is a wonderful romantic read. You can't help but love Caroline and Lawrence's story. The secondary characters are very well developed as well - making you want to know what will happen with them in the future.
I stopped at 33%. The book was singularly so boring. It felt like forever before the hero andvheroine had any form of contactcyhen the chemistry fely awkwar and off. Didn't like this book at all
. I enjoyed both characters in this, it was a sweet, lighthearted read although it was predictable. I'll definitely read more from this author.
I loved this book so much because I've been trying to find a book with a female protagonist who is strong and knows what she wants in life, without the looming need to depend on a man. Caroline was perfect, and she felt like such a relatable character to me. The relationships were well developed and didn't feel forced at all. Overall, very enjoyable read, though I felt it was a little redundant at times.
Lovely romance. A lot of the so-called romance books nowadays seem to be filled with sex scenes and if you skip them you can read a book in 20 minutes. Very little plot, lots of sex. This book was different. It was really a romance book with an interesting plot and the sex was limited to what was necessary to further the plot. The couple actually had conversations and interacted with each other and their friends and family. I really enjoyed it and will look forward to reading other books by this author.
