Good little read with a great characters. I physically wanted to shake January Rose and shout at her "omg stay home and and get with him". The chemistry between them literally jumped off the pages while I was reading it. I was thrilled when the book ended with a happy ending. I'm excited for the next books.
This was a very nice book and a great read! I am giving this review in exchange for Advanced Readers copy before publication.
These two souls are sad and they question some of their choices in life but manage to find a way to lean on each other for strength. I felt it was well written and I wanted to see them find happiness after so much sadness in their lives. I encourage those who like ranch stories and reading about people who find ways to overcome obstacles in life. A positive in my view!
Nathaniel knew when he thought of January the unexpected would occur. Her sudden disappearance and how she reappeared in his life ten years later. He was crushed when the love of his life left their small town. Focusing on keeping his families ranch afloat he struggles with the legacy he must uphold. Pushing his dreams to the side he rekindles his lost love with January. Have her wandering ways finally come to an end as she accepts the one thing she was looking for was by her side all along. Great start to a new series.
Problems and misconceptions twisted into a romance that stops the heart. This novel, written my Ms North, is amongst some of her best work. Readers familiar with Ms North’s work will expect a HEA and know the way there will not be easy – this story is ideal for the romantic, with thrills and turns that pull at a reader’s emotions and drag a tear from the eye, along with a giggle or smirk. Worth the read for the characters alone, as Ms North definitely paints a picture of a hero you want sweeping you off your feet and a heroine to melt the hardest hearts.
As usual this was a great read by Leslie North. She has a great writing style that pulls you in and makes you feel like you are part of the book.
Very fun story. January came home after being gone 10 years. Nat had mixed feelings about it. He had been in love with her when they were teenagers and she had left without a word. He heard from her from time to time but he was heartbroken. This time, he knew she was going to leave again and tried to steel his heart against her. It didn't work, but he tried. Leslie North writes a good love story. I'm off to read the next in the series. I got this book from NetGalley for an honest review.
Great Characters, Great Story, Great Start to the Meier Ranch Brothers series.
I loved Nathaniel & January, Nat’s strength for family loyalty and his vulnerability to wear his honesty on his sleeve made my heart break and rejoice for him at the same time. J needed to find her true north and through all the turmoil continued to venture the world in hope. The way these two compromised when all seemed lost made for a great story and a series I look forward to reading more of.
i Enjoyed this book. I did think that Nat wasn’t maybe as strong a lead character as January but it was good nonetheless. I liked the thread of January being a wanderer but she also came across as quite selfish in what she wants rather than a mutual want until the end of the book. A good read overall
I sadly could not get into this book. I loved the description and that is what made me excited to read this book. Even in the first chapter I wasn't able to get into it. I wasn't going to finish, but I ended up skimming the book to read all of it.
This is the first book I have read by this author. I liked the lead male character Nate but the female not so much. The characters are well developed and the story line is good but I just never felt like this book grabbed me and kept me interested. I finished the book because I received it in exchange for an honest review. It wasn't a bad story and it had some good moments but it didn't make me want to read more books by this author and seems rather forgettable.
3.5 stars, I enjoyed this book but it's not exactly my favorite. Simply because I was expecting more, you know, drama. One of my favorite thing in the world. Of romance. Not in the world world, but more like things that spice up my reading. Hehe. But overall I adore the chemistry between the characters and the writing also pretty good. It's the first time I read a book from this author. Definitely will read more!
January Rose has always been a free spirit and as a teen, dreamed of traveling the world. The moment she graduated high school, she left Close Call, Texas and the man she loved.
Rancher Nathaniel Meier has always had to put his responsibilities first. His father died, his mother took off to "find herself" and his brothers are away. It is his responsibility to run the families cattle ranch. He struggles with making a profit every year with the bank breathing down his neck. This year, he needs all the help he can get when the last person he ever thought he would see again comes back - January Rose.
Ten years later, January has roamed the world, sending postcards from exotic locations. She has searched for that place to call home. Will she realize that Nat is her home? Can Nat take a risk to tame the wandering January?
I was amazed by this book. I loved the characters, from Nat and January to Mona and Wes when he returned home. The plot was like a rollercoaster of emotion with the tension between Nat and January so thick you could cut it. I felt like I was living on the Meier ranch.
I received an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!
It was just ok almost bordering on boring. Nothing much stood out at all. The characters weren't popping and the story was blah.
This is he first book I've read by Leslie and I enjoyed it. The writing style was a bit different than what I'm use to but it was short and sweet.
January and Nat have a history so when she comes back I was wondering how Nat would handle it. I didn't really like how selfish January appeared to be and my heart hurt for Nat because all he saw was responsibility and loss. January did redeem herself and I loved Wes and how he helped Nat to see beyond the burden of his responsibility.
Really good story that I would recommend to anyone looking for a short read with the perfect ending.
I always enjoy stepping into the world of a new Leslie North trilogy or series, and this beginning story to the Meir Ranch Brothers series is an emotional read on so many levels. There is deep hurt here, some anger and confusion, loneliness and resignation as well. As much as I liked both Nat and January I also wanted to lock them in a closet so they would have to actually talk to each other and get some truths out there in the open.
Ten years ago January broke Nat’s heart and stomped it into the ground when she left him behind for her travel the world lifestyle. It broke him then, and if he can’t keep away from her now she’s going to break him once more… and this time there may be no coming back from that pain. January is convinced she’s following in her father’s footsteps by wandering the world. She’s content, if not happy, in the life she lives. She honestly does not believe she has it in her to stay in one place for very long. Yes, she loved Nate back then, and it hurt to leave but she simply couldn’t stay. Now she’s gone and fallen all over again so how’s she supposed to leave her heart behind once again?
In general I liked January, I didn’t like the decisions she often made or the reasons she gave. She’ll have to come to the hard realization that it’s not a place that makes one happy it’s a person who becomes “home”. It’s a hard lesson to learn, and she’s going to be kickin’ her heels all the way to that eventual understanding. Nat has taken on so much responsibility for the ranch, for the brothers who are off living their own life while he holds on to their family legacy by his fingertips at times. He had dreams of his own that never came true because life happens and you get on with dealing with it not running away from it. Because of my often times battling emotions on this story, it does come off as very realistic and life like. I enjoyed myself and I’ll definitely be picking up the next story in this series.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
Leslie North’s new series starts with an exceptionally emotional story, filled with heartache and angst. The background history is covered well, but the overall premise was depressing.
Nate’s character seemed to suffer more than was necessary, and January was hard to like, until very late in the book. I’m hoping book two has some lighter moments and less angst.
If you like hot contemporary romance novels then you so so have give this author a try. I fell in love with some of her previous trilogies and this one lived up to all of my expectations. We get to meet Nat who runs the family ranch though it is on shaky financial ground. Enter January the love that got away who just thinks she is only back home temporarily. I like the emotional depths that are involved and the fact that these are dealt with instead of ignored. The romance follows a nice progression without being a set formula layout. Of course the steamy scenes are quite hot as well. I really enjoyed it so I give it 4/5 stars and will be looking forward to book two.
A sad, but sweet second chance romance. I'm glad that they were able to finally see things from the other's perspective in order to get their HEA. The epilogue really brought it all together. Mona was a hoot and it would have given some much needed comic relief if there had been more from her or even Willie or Mack.
Even though I love stories about cowboys, ranchers and farms, I found this one just was too depressing and too full of pessimism for me. Nat just couldn’t see beyond the nose on his face and January was just too much of a nomad (or hippie). Neither one were dealing with reality. Not one character was content with life despite January’s statement that her old town was full of content people. Didn’t read about any of those. I enjoy seeing characters grow and change over the course of the book, but in this one I just wanted to move far, far away.
I found it a bit depressing. Everyone seemed so dissatisfied.
I like that this author usually has no cheating, a HEA .
It's a second chance romance.
