This is a great book told from the perspective of three characters. Each one has their own battles and you go on this journey with them to see how they are all connected. You also see how dark people can be. This is a good old fashioned crime novel. Thank you NetGalley for an ARC of this to review.

WOW! A superb read!!!

A couple in their mid-seventies are murdered on their farm. Their daughter, Paula, was the first to be under suspicion. Her gambling, drinking, pot smoking husband is not far behind.

Meanwhile, the Vigilante is called by Corrine, the widow of his best friend (Tony) in the SAS. He feels guilt at his buddy's death and would do anything to help Corrine. Her (and Tony's) daughter, Toni, has been kidnapped. The Viilante is on the way to help Corrine get her daughter back. And, as we soon find out, he stops at nothing to try to do so.

Also a Police Detective investigating the double homicide, questions Paula, the daughter of the murdered couple, and finds her to be a bit unreliable. Both Paula and her husband are then brought in for interrogation.

Toni is, indeed, in trouble. She is freezing and scared. She had been punched, drugged and shoved inside a van and driven to a place where she is in a concrete cell.

Lee, from the signal Squad, a former SAS, himself, is working on the computer end trying to help his old friend (the Vigilante). He turns out to be an ace.

Laura is Toni's best friend. She had introduced Toni to the dark web. Since Toni is all about justice for children and the psychology of criminals, she finds the information enthralling for a future dissertation. So much so that she goes a step too far and becomes embroiled in a dark web situation beyond her abilities.

Both the Detective and the Vigilante have different cases, yet they are eventually brought together in an earth-shattering situation.

The conclusion - you just don't see it coming !!!!! Do not miss this read!

Many Thanks to Amazon Publishing UK and NetGalley for one of this year's top reads!!!

Thanks to Netgalley for my copy. 4.5*

This is a taut thriller told in three different viewpoints, The Missing, The Detective and The Vigilante. I really liked this style of writing and thought it flowed naturally.

Tori is a teenager with an avid interest in true crime and the psychology of killers. She gets drawn into the Dark Web and a world of horror. The Vigilante is called in by her Mum when Tori goes missing. The detective is investigated the double shooting of an elderly couple at their rural home.

As the book progresses we learn how the disappearance of Tori is tied with the double murder. The Dark web is something most regular people including myself have very limited knowledge of and absolute zero interest in finding out about it as it is terrifying. The author has researched it well and gives us a very scary insight into the underworld of depravity and the sick and twisted individuals who access it.

Into the Darkness was a quick paced story! It was layered and really well developed. We slowly get pieces to put together an intricate puzzle. I really enjoyed how the story was laid out for the reader. It was like we were being given two separate stories and over time you start to see little ways that the stories are overlapping. I think it’s a really interesting way to build a story.

My one and only real complaint is that I wish there was more of a thrilling aspect to the story. Now, I did feel the clock ticking down. I’m not sure exactly what I wanted but more thriller/suspense kind of action. However, I can’t complain about the story or the plot. The characters were interesting. We don’t dive too deep into them but we don’t really need too. This is definitely a book where we only know the characters on a surface level.

The narrators did a good job. I'm not sure which guy played the vigilante and which one played the detective but Simon Vance and Shaun Grindell did a great job with the story. They were easy to understand and spoke clearly. Charlotte Cole was the missing and just like the gentlemen, she was good. Her voice clear and concise. I didn't really feel a pulse-pounding response from her narration but she had a pleasant voice. I'll be honest, none of these narrators really threw emotions into this story. I couldn't really feel the fear or apprehension from any of them.

I am a huge fan of this authors books and this one did not disappoint. It pulls you in from the beginning and keeps you on your toes throughout. A must read in my opinion, huge 5 stars.

This is a gritty, disturbing novel about the dark web, a very evil place. The story is told from three perspectives, The Missing, The Vigilante and The Detective. The Missing is Toni, a young girl who has been abducted. The Vigilante is Mitchell, a friend of Toni’s late father when they were in the SAS. Her mum has contacted him to try and find her as the police don’t believe she is missing. The Detective is DS Carter, who isn’t nearing retirement and is disillusioned with new police procedures. He is investigating the murder of an elderly couple shot dead in their remote farmhouse. At the beginning of this book you can’t see how these three are connected but it all becomes clearer as the story unfolds.
This is a fast paced thriller where you are never sure of the outcome. A riveting read and highly recommended.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

This novel engrossed me. There's gripping action, especially towards the end. I couldn't turn the pages quickly enough. The format of the book is multi-layered with three threads in the first person, Detective, Claustrophobic and Vigilante. It is so excellently written that there's no confusion. The book starts with a seemingly mindless double-murder which DS Warren Carter has to solve. He is considering retirement and there's banter, wit and humour as they bang their heads against bureaucracy, poor funding, low staffing levels and corruption at the top. There's also a bit of satire about political correctness which was illuminating and amusing. I recall the shocking situation of the Alan Connolly and its incredible repercussions referred to in the novel where "injustice instead of justice" was actioned. In the next thread an ex-SAS operative, Mitchell is asked to investigate a missing girl Toni which involves him in the shocking exposure of the horrors and depravity of the dark web. Toni takes an interest in criminology and psychology; her curiosity is her undoing. She has been abducted and awaiting her fate by men who make a fortune in the dark web with their brutally-charged video's. She's plucky and trying to be positive, but you can't believe she's in that position or imagine being in that situation. That was a difficult hair-raising section. It's inconceivable to consider that people pay money to watch such brutal and inhuman acts. They can't be normal. What a sick world we live in. A breathtaking ending. Thank you to NetGalley and Amazon Publishing UK.

Terrifying read which took me to places I’d rather not go to. Sometimes just knowing and not thinking and definitely not reading about what goes on is best

This is a great book which really held my attention.
The story is told from three perspectives- The Missing, The Vigilante and The Detective.

Truly love the way that this story is narrated by three different people (The Missing, The Detective and the Vigilante). I have noticed that I am reading more books like this and I really like it. I like seeing the story from all different perspectives and you get a different feeling from each character.

You get to know these characters and feel the fear, the anger and hope. Hope that The Missing will be found in time. Sibel Hodge has certainly hit on a subject that is very real and frightening.

There are some moments of humor where it breaks up such a serious subject. Political correctness at it's finest....don't ever call a whiteboard a whiteboard any longer. It is forever to be now known as a white notice board, among other little tidbits. I needed those breaks mixed in with such a deep and serious subject.

There are a couple of different stories happening throughout this book. We have The Missing and we have the death of a couple. You try and figure out the clues and how to get to the end. I was rooting for the team throughout.

Look forward to more from this Sibel Hodge. Great writing!! Thank you to NetGalley for the advanced copy of this book that I voluntarily read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are of my own.

This is a brilliant read, I thoroughly enjoyed it! This is the first book by this author I have read but I understand some of the characters feature in previous books so I will definitely need to check them out.
I loved the character of DS Carter, he is counting down the days till retirement and is disillusioned with police cuts stopping him from doing his job properly. His last case involves the murder of an elderly couple at a remote farmhouse. Mitchell is a retired SAS operative tasked with solving the disappearance of teenager Toni when the police don't seem to be taking the case seriously. The story is written in the first person from the perspectives of Toni, Mitchell and Carter and this technique works really well, I love books written like this.
Some very dark subjects are tackled but there is some humour in the book too which works really well. Carter's fear of horses leads to a funny collision between the cases and I was cheering Carter and Mitchell on by the end of the book. Excellent read, I would certainly recommend.

Thanks to the author for an ARC to read and give my honest opinion.

This is one of those suspenseful but horrifying....like watching a train wreck and being unable to divert your eyes from the horror.... type books. Toni is searching the dark web when she comes upon a red room she isn't supposed to have knowledge of and she is taken for it. The dark web offers snuff films in any way, shape, or form of murder that you can have. There is actually two stories here that merge into one before the end as everything gets revealed. Two men, the detective, and the vigilante follow two different paths to find a missing girl and destroy the men making the snuff films. Not a light read but it gets pretty dark if your into that sort of book. I gave it four stars for dark entertainment!

The Missing, The Vigilante and The Detective, but what, if anything, links these three?

Into the Darkness is about Toni, a young girl who has gone missing after finding unspeakable things on the Dark Web, her mother is beside herself and contacts an old SAS friend of her husband, Tony to try and find her.  Mitchell is determined to do anything in his power to bring Toni safely back to her mum, whatever the cost, to try and make up for what happened.

D'S Carter is on the verge of leaving the force, but gets called on to solve one last case, an elderly couple have been brutally murdered in their own home and there doesn't appear to be a clear cut motive for it, can Carter find out what happened to them and is this just a one off, or will it happen again?

The story is told from 3 perspectives and changes at every chapter, this actually made it more of an intense, buckle yourself up and hold on tight kind of ride and I was screaming to go faster, although I was begging for a happy outcome,  if you want to know if it was, you'll just have to go and read it yourself!   It's a well crafted, edge of your seat thriller that just gets better and better as you read it, I've loved all of this authors books and this one was no exception, in fact it was exceptional!  I highly recommend this and would give it way more than the 5 stars that Amazon allows.

I would like to thank Thomas & Mercer for the auto approval and will post my review on Amazon & Goodreads.

It was interesting and suspenseful, for sure. She keeps the story going and ties up loose ends well. I would recommend it. This is my first time reading Sibel Hodge, so I think I will check out her other books.
This one is told from 3 narrators, which seems to move the pace along pretty quickly and keep the suspense building. Intriguing plot.

I love a good thriller, so when I saw this book had come up for review I jumped at the chance. It seemed righ up my street.
Starting the book, I found it a bit confusing. There's 2 different POV's and each chapter is flipped from 1 POV to the other. I felt like I couldn't get into the story properly because of it. The story was so slow starting off, I found it boring and I just didn't like it. I couldn't connect to the characters, you never really got to know them to feel invested in them.
There was a lot of useless information going on, which dragged the story out more then was nessacary. The story was preditable and I figured what was going to happen quite quickly. I found I wasn't really thrilled to say I was reading a thriller.

Wow. Absolutely enthralled with this book. First one from this author that I’ve read and it won’t be the last. Outstanding. Left me wanting more.

The Missing…

In a hidden basement, eighteen-year-old Toni is held captive and no one can hear her screams. She’s been abducted after investigating unspeakable things in the darkest corners of the Internet.

The Vigilante…

Fearing the worst, Toni’s mother turns to ex-SAS operative Mitchell to help find her missing daughter. And when Mitchell discovers Toni’s fate rests in the hands of pure evil, he races against the clock to find Toni and bring her out alive. But even that might not be enough to save her.

The Detective…

DS Warren Carter is looking forward to a new job and a simpler life. But when he’s called in to investigate the brutal murder of a seemingly normal couple, he becomes entangled in lives that are anything but simple. And as he digs deeper, he uncovers a crime more twisted than he could ever have imagined.

Into the Darkness is the chilling new thriller from the bestselling author of Duplicity and Beneath the Surface.

And Sibel Hodge strikes again! Bloody hell!

Vigilante Mitchell is called in by the wife of a former SAS buddy when her eighteen year old daughter Toni goes missing. The police regard Toni as a runaway and are no help at all. Being ex-military, Mitchell has access to resources the police can only dream about but as he sets out trying to find Toni, he quickly discovers Toni’s fasciation with all things evil may just have landed her in incredible danger. Will Mitchell find Toni before the clock runs out?

Meanwhile, Detective Carter is finding himself more and more disillusioned and troubled, with life and with his job. Two weeks from retirement, he has the choice to effectively retire or sell his house and move onto another job. But first he must solve the murder of two pensioners, shot to death in their farmhouse. With no motives to establish and little clues to find, Carter is frustrated when he goes from one dead end to the next. Will he be able to solve this case?

There are a few characters in Into the Darkness you may recognise from previous books by Sibel Hodge but if you are not familiar with them or their background, fear not! This reads perfectly well as a stand-alone. The chapters switch between the Detective (Carter) and the Vigilante (Mitchell), sometimes interspersed with Toni’s. This ensures a brilliantly crafted plot with tiny clues here and there for the reader to pick up on and some well placed cliffhangers to keep you hooked.

Once again, Sibel Hodge delivers a cracking thriller that gets under my skin and chills me to the bone. I’m hard pressed to name someone who does dark and disturbing as she does and it’s all the more terrifying because it sadly feels all too realistic and believable. With excellent pace throughout and full of suspense, this is one of those books that is insanely hard to put down and I was extremely miffed every time I was interrupted.

After having read Untouchable last year and having had my mind blown to smithereens, I didn’t think anything could top that. I was wrong. So very, very wrong and I will never underestimate Sibel Hodge again. Into the Darkness is just as gripping, addictive and unforgettable. If you’re not reading the books by this author, you’re doing yourself an immensely massive disservice. Go forth and fix the error of your ways immediately!

Thank you to Netgalley & Amazon Publishing UK for allowing me to read a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. 🙏🏻❤️

Well it's not very often that I dislike a book but man this book was BAD! I have looked at the reviews of people praising this novel and they clearly haven't read thrillers done the correct way. Check out my favorites folder for authors that nail the thriller genre and leave you with your mouth gaping open or have you scared to go to sleep at night! There was absolutely zero shock factor throughout the entire book, the characters were unrelatable and boring and the big "reveal" at the end wasn't even a well known person. I predicted the "hostage" location within the first 25% of the book and the pacing was soooooooooo SLOW!

The plot had so much potential but fell completely flat. I've seen quite similar ideas ( of what I think that this plot was trying to achieve) done extremely well in movies like " The Call" and "Hostel 2" but sadly not here.

There was SO much useless information that was added into this book for zero reason! This book could have been reduced to 100 pages and still had the same impact. To name some examples:

1. Why did we need to know that the detective's wife had died and he was selling his house, then the offer fell through or that he was trying to decide whether to accept a new job dealing with animals or to remain a detective? Is this going to be a series? If not....why include it?

2. Why was it mentioned that there was a thief in the lunch room stealing items from the refrigerator and even the coffee pot?

3. Why did the author deliberately go out of her way to show that racism was NOT a factor in her book , repeating over and over that it could not be called a "white" board or that he'd take his coffee natural colored instead of " black?" How bizarre, this made it look like race is an issue. The white board example was used probably 4 times. The officers also kept joking around about sexual harassment for no apparent reason also. Again, why?

These are just a few things that I am mentioning, there was just way too much unnecessary subject matter that did not help to move the book along.

The only enjoyable parts for me were the chapters titled " the missing" and they were so few and far between. This is my first Sibel Hodge book and I requested it because I've heard wonderful things about her as an author but sadly I will not be reading any other novels by her.

Into The Darkness is a thriller that focuses on the dark web and those who lurk there preying on innocent people to fill their darkest (often murderous) desires.

The fact that the dark web really exists is frightening enough but Sibel Hodge explores this by bringing to your attention just how horrific, taboo, and disgusting a place it can be.

The chapters alternate between the Vigilante, the Detective, and the Missing.

Toni, the Missing, is a young girl with a fascination with true crime and protecting innocent people. A girl whose good intentions land her in the most frightening of nightmares.

Mitchell, the Vigilante, ex-military that suffers from PTSD. He has a special connection to Toni and her Mom and will stop at nothing to see her safe return. Laws be damned.

DS Warren Carter, the Detective, who is investigating the double murder of a retired couple that live out in the middle of nowhere and their connection to a missing prostitute whose fingerprints are found at the scene.

This was a decent thriller and my first read by author Sibel Hodge. While I enjoyed reading this book it wasn't something that I couldn't put down nor was I super excited to pick it back up again. I think my biggest problem is that I didn't really care about Toni. I never really got to know her enough to truly care what happened to her. Personally I thought the detective was my favorite character and he made me laugh quite a few times. He was so easy to root for.

My inner detective figured out the twists early on which was a little disappointing. While this one may not have been my favorite I'd still love to read what else she writes. A solid 3 stars!

I love Sibel’s books, I describe them as like turning on a tap and just watching the water falling out because thats how I read them, the words just seem to read themselves!
I really like how you learn something from the story, they are well researched and I found myself ‘googling’ the dark web. Another great read, looking forward to the next one!
