I couldn't put this book down. I like how they compare their first time around(solely as friends?) and how they are now that they meet again. I also like how their choices intertwine with each other. Great romance.
Wonderfully smart and sexy second chance at love romance
I've read a number of books by Nancy Herkness and once again she has delivered an outstanding story. Her vivid descriptions of people and places pulled me right into the story. Will and Kyra were wonderful together, playful, sexy and yet both vulnerable in their own ways. I enjoyed watching how each of them changed and grew as they moved toward their HEA. I loved the subplot regarding the Carver Center and the dogs and kids. It was fun to see characters from previous books though this book reads well as a stand alone.
I really look forward to the next book in the Second Glances series.
I received an advance reader copy from Netgalley.
Enjoyed it
This is my first book by Nancy Herkness.
What I liked:
The writing style
The characters
Part of a series: Second Glances
Standalone
HEA
Epilogue
I look forward to reading the other books in this series.
Blue collar girl (Kyra Dixon) reunites with her old college crush billionaire CEO (Will Chase) after 10 years. Sparks still fly between the two even though they're from vastly different backgrounds. Overall a solid 3.5 stars.
Kyra and Will were friends in college, until the one night their relationship changed. Now ten years later, they meet again. Will is now a billionaire CEO and Kyra is a bartender and also cooks for a program for children. Will the second time around be the perfect time for them? Believable characters and a romantic plot make this contemporary romance a good read. Is there such a thing as a story with too much sex? After the beginning of the story, I felt like it was one seduction scene after another. Not much happening unless it was a steamy sex situation. It was well-written but I like a bit more of a good story. Romantic heat level is hot to caliente!
Second Time Around by Nancy Herkness will be available July 24, 2018 from Montlake Romance. An egalley of this book was made available by the publisher in exchange for a honest review.
I was a little disappointed in this book. Second chance romances is one of my favorite troupes, however, I had trouble focusing on this book, and found it easy to put down. This book had bland characters and was a bit repetitive. Overall, an OK story. *I received an ARC of this book and this is my voluntary and honest review.
Second Time Around
Nancy Herkness
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I’ve never read anything from Nancy, so when this was offered I thought “why not”. I’m so freaking glad I did. This story is quick moving, sweet and plenty of heat. If you are a fan of alpha men, and strong willed women, this book will be for you.
Will Chase comes from a influential, rich family that only see $$$ for their children. Will already upset his parents choosing to follow his dreams and start his own company with restaurants that are very successful. His sister Schuyler, followed their father, in law.
Kyra Dixon is loving a life less preferred. After losing her father, then her mother she’s left with crippling debt. Working 2 jobs, one as a cook at a after school care place, and bartending at a high flyer club most nights. She gave up her loved college, wanted job to pay down her debts. Every day is same thing…. Until she comes in contact with Will Chase at Ceres by pure fluke.
Neither can believe their eyes, meeting each other at such a random place…. If you believe in 2nd chance love, Will and Kyra will give you all the warm and fuzzies. They were friends during college, but when he broke up with her best friend, they lost the connection. Now it’s back and neither wants to turn their backs in it again. Forever in the back of her mind, Kyra is blantanly Made aware that she doesn’t fit into Will’s world. He has money, she owes lots of it, but their chemistry is white hot, and his money and family mean nothing.
Getting over that barrier, may be the only thing that destroys what they have. Knowing here is an expiry date, Kyra pushes away him. But with adverse effects. A second chance, second glance will forever change their presents and their futures, but maybe not the path either saw coming.
I’m a little smitten with Will and Kyra, I look forward to re-reading this story and more from this author.
I’ve read a lot of Nancy Herkness’ books and really liked them and I enjoyed this book but....
Book started out very strong. Kira is a compelling h and Will an Uber rich CEO but likeable. They reconnect having been college friends and things ensue.
The conflict that the h had with the two of them being in different social classes just got a little tiresome and I felt like the book was like 35-50 pages too long. It just got a little repetitive.
Overall I really enjoyed it. You’ll see some characters from the authors former books and I’m guessing we will be seeing a book about the H’s sister next.
Received a copy from Net Galley for a review of this book.
I am usually a huge fan of this author, but this book was a bit disappointing.I had a hard time connecting to the characters and the plot line was so similar to Second to None book. The characters were just a bit bland and needed a little bit more of something to make them either more relatable or interesting . I will keep. Reading books by this author but this was just a little disappointing.. His parents were so awful at first and the way his mother treated Kyra like she was the gum on the bottom of her designer shoe. His mother seemed to control the family and while at the end of the book the kids seemed to grow a backbone it was still hurtful the way she treated the people she so called love.
Great read from start to finish. Hooked me from the start. Likeable characters and loved the quotes and always trying to outdo the other.
A HOT and sweet second chance romance, with the addition of sweet kids and rescue animals. A great story about following your dreams.
This was not at all what I was expecting. I thought it would be a little more intense and little less surface. It wasn’t bad but it didn’t have much depth.
I am a BIG Nancy Herkness fan. BIG and I loved this story because it interwove some of my fave characters from other books in this story. Will and Kyra knew each other in college. But he was dating her roomie, then he finds out the roomie is a big cheater and so he and Kyra drift apart.
Now ten years later, Kyra is a college drop out, she had to leave for family reasons and she runs into Will again at his restaurant. She doesn't want much to do with him but wants to see more of her. I loved this story and I loved how hard Will worked at getting Kyra to give him his shot.
This was a wonderful second chance romance with a former friend and I loved every second of it.
LOVED the book from the moment I started reading, all the way through to the end. I was very disappointed that it ended. Is there a sequel? I would love to read more of these wonderful characters. The characters and story line hooked me instantly. Not a dull moment in the entire book. This would make a great first book of a series. I loved it! :)
I really enjoyed this novel! I think Will and Kyra had a sweet backstory that's revealed bit by bit throughout the novel. Can't wait for the next entry in this series!
2.5 stars.
I usually really enjoy Nancy's books. I like her slightly formal and elegant style of writing. Also she creates interesting and in-depth characters and enjoyable stories.
Sadly for me this book just didn't work on any of these levels. I had trouble connecting with the MC's. I didn't find either of them particularly interesting. I know they were previously friends at college who had missed out on the opportunity of becoming more but I just couldn't relate to either of them and the intimacy between them just seemed wrong.
Honestly, I had to skim through a lot just to finish this book.
This one simply wasn't for me but I will continue to read this author as she has written some really memorable and enjoyable stories.
ARC received in exchange for an honest review.
I've read books by this author before so I was excited to read a book in a new series. I liked both Will and Kyra. Having read many of the literature classics, I really enjoyed their quote wars. I thought the a was a sweet, hot read and it was one I'd recommend.
Let me start by just saying "well done Nancy" I read this book in just over a day. I won't try to tell the story as that's what reading the book is all about.
I will say.... I am an avid fan of the Wager of the Hearts series so I loved the way Nancy took characters from that series and wove them into an integral part of the lives of Kyra n Will. A tale of second chances from friends to lovers, of following your passions...conquering objections. It has all the feels. Love, lust, compassion, sadness, fear, uncertainty & joy. The childen, the dogs n cat.....so touching gives it such a warm n fuzzy. Oh and the romantic quotes...Swoon!!! Terrific read.

A chance meeting in a cafe, Kyra bumps in to Will, an old friend from college. Something happened between them then, and now they start to spend more and more time together will they fall for each other again?

Three and a half stars.
Kyra Dixon and Will Chase were at college together and developed a friendship whilst Will dated Kyra's roommate. Will never knew that Kyra had the world's biggest crush until THAT one night.
Ten years later Kyra and Will run into each other. She dropped out of college and now works two jobs, barperson at an upmarket club and cook at a children's' centre (the one run by Emily from Second to None) and he is the co-founder of an extremely successful healthy fast-food chain. The spark is still there and the two of them fall right back into their literary quotes game but now the disparity between both their backgrounds and current status is even more pronounced. Will invites Kyra to his family's annual party as a shield against his ex who is likely to be there causing trouble and things move from friends to lovers. But is the gap between them too wide.
I like Nancy Herkness' novels and I jumped at the chance to read this when I saw this on NetGalley but I have to say whilst I enjoyed reading this (and read it in less than a day), I didn't love it. TBH there was a lot of ve-hic-u-lar sex (I feel it needs that spelt out pronunciation) and not a huge amount of plot. One way and another Kyra and Will are battling the legacies of their parents and still looking for what really makes them happy.
OMG I don't know if I'm getting old (or not getting any) but there was too much sex and not enough plot, the kids at the Centre are super cute (and the dogs) but I needed more.
Recommended if you like cute kids and dogs and ritchie rich boys and haught sex in boats and sportscars and limos and limos again.
