Good heavens, this was fun from start to finish! Jesse was one of the more interesting male lead characters I've read in a while; he perpetuates to belief that everything in his life is perfect, including some of his more...quirky habits (like the cereal boxes!)
For Jesse, the world is black and white, there's no gray areas (my youngest daughter is the same way). What happens when he meets the one person who shakes up his very existence?
Isla isn't as quirky as Jesse, she's just very much in control of things because of her relationship history, she needs to be in control all the time; heaven forbid something changes her routine, cause all hell will break loose. That's not to say that she's unrelenting and demanding, but I sort of understand her thought processes.
The chemistry between these two is plenty hot, but I love that neither of them is "perfect" and that they've both got their own unique personality traits. And I liked seeing how they both dealt with their respective idiosyncrasies. The secondary characters are great and help bring a balance to the story.
Book Boyfriend: 💋💋💋💋
Jessie Beckett just got out of an extremely toxic marriage. He doesn’t really know who he is or what he wants. In fact, Jessie is kind of boring. He is an ex-NFL football player with a greek god physique and All-American good looks. The problem is, Jessie likes to be perceived as perfect and having all his shit together… even down to opening cereal boxes from the bottom and alphabetizing them so it is aesthetically pleasing. That’s just weird… haha! He lives in the black and white… literally. Enter Isla. She changes him and I love the confident man he becomes in the end.
Strong Female Lead: 💋💋💋💋💋
Isla Turner has control issues which is only natural after being engaged and cheated on multiple times. She has a routine and a plan. Isla does not really deviate from that. Change and disorganization are hard for her. But she is fun and wears color! Isla is a badass and gives as good as she gets. She isn’t vulnerable though and keeps her walls nice and high. I love watching those walls break down throughout the book and her inner strength shine through.
Plot: 💋💋💋💋
I liked the plot of the story and found it interesting and kept my attention. It was ironic that Jessie would finally break free of pretending with his ex-wife to pretending with someone new for reputation’s sake. But this time, the outcome is far better and maybe along the way he isn’t really pretending anymore. And lest not forget the crazy aunt… she reminds me of Grandma Nadine a bit. She is a HOOT!
Steamy Factor: 💋💋
Again, not too steamy which I like. Scenes that make you fan yourself and maybe even squeeze your legs together are there but not overpowering.
Overall: 💋💋💋💋
I think I liked this book better than the first book in the series. I’m not a huge fan of a love triangle which the first book had. This book is straightforward and hilarious. I feel like it also was a little deeper emotionally with the characters. They both had some pretty big issues to overcome and I enjoyed watching that growth throughout the book. And did I mention it was funny?!? Quick, easy read that I finished in one sitting.
I absolutely love everything that Rachel writes. She has a way of hooking you from the very beginning and not letting go until the very end. I loved all the twists and turns this story took.
Isla and Jessie both have secrets and quite a history. The have a love/hate relationship that takes them on quite a ride. Will they be able to work out their issues?
I loved the deep connection between Isla and Jessie. The secondary characters added lots of depth to the storyline. I can't wait to see what she is working on next!
Given ARC for honest review.
So i was a little apprehensive about this book because i wasn't sure if i would like Jessie, especially after reading Dirty Exes. Reading about how Blaire felt about Jessie and then having her best friend Isla be the one to end up with him, BUT why would i ever doubt the genius that Rachel Van Dyken is because this book is amazing!!! I am now stuck as to which couple i love more, Isla and Jessie or Blaire and Colin.
From friends to frenemies, Isla and Jessie had me not wanting to put down my kindle because I ONE couldn't take all of their sexual tension, TWO couldn't stop laughing and THREE needed to know how it all was going to end.
There was soo much drama going one from the aftermath that took place in Dirty Exes that you wanted to know which way the book was going to go, will they kill each other? will they end up in another scandal? or will they just tear each other's clothes off on sight?
The highlight of this book was Goo-Poh, Isla's 80yr old aunt, i loved her!!! Everyone needs a Goo-Poh in their lives. I am not sure what else Rachel has in stores for us when it comes to Liars Inc, but please know that i am ready with my glass of wine to devour the next installment to this series. I am advocating that just like The Matchmaker's Playbook that this book series also needs their own movie made on Passionflix....I need the sexy beast of Colin to become a live character!!! (less)

I loveddddd this book! I was so keen for this after Dirty Exes, but I have only just been able to get to this on my list of books to read. I sped through this one so fast! And I have been in a slow reading phase lately, so it was really nice to jump into a book that immediately captured my attention and had me speeding through it.
Isla and Jessie were awesome. Enemies to lovers is always one of my fave tropes, and this one did not disappoint. The dynamic here was fantastic, and you could tell that these two just NEEDED to be together.
It was very entertaining watching things unfold between them, and whilst there were some serious anger and trust issues, among with others, there was also a tonne of funny banter and scenes between them and the secondary characters.
Truly loved this one, and highly recommend!

So you definitely need to read the first book in this series so you know exactly what is going on and you won’t if you don’t. This book is about Jessie who was scorned in book one by Isla and Blaire. He is out for blood and looking to ruin Isla and her company that messed with his career and all his good doings. Jessie has to interact with Isla due to a crazy scheme to help get his good name back by the women who helped ruin it.
Naturally, forced to spend so much time together will only lead them to being madly in love, right? I must say that there were a few good one liners with Isla’s aunt stealing the show and keeping it moving for me on more then one occasion. This second book had more pep to it and kept the drama to a minimum. Although the drama in this book was dealt with quickly.
I enjoyed Jessie and Isla together and it was a cute book. A good beach read and like I said, pick up the first book otherwise you will be lost.
4.5 Stars
That was really good... and downright hilarious in some places. The only reason why I didn't give it a full five stars is because the ex-wife, Vanessa, still wreaking havoc, even though she's with someone else was a bit overkill to me. As well as the reason for Isla being upset. Because he paid the hacker off, I didn't get it.
But Goo-Poh was hilarious as well as many of Isla antics. I throughly enjoyed the read/listen.
Makes me want to read/listen to more by this author.
This is the second book in the series but I feel like it could be read as a stand alone.
Isla and Jessie... Their story is one of my favorite. Both having had bad experiences in their love lives and Jessie really blames Isla for his problems. Their feuding is pretty crazy at times. I loved Goo-Poh. She was a real star of the book with all her wacky quirks and beliefs.
My favorite part was when Isla twirled in the rain. Made me think of a past character in one of Rachel's books and made me a little misty eyed.
***4 "Boner tea!!!" stars***
I've said it already too many times, but i will repeat myself for once again... I'm having such a great time with RVD's stories!!! And this one wasn't the exception!!!
The second installment of "Liars, Inc." series was even better than the previous book and much funnier!!! I loved it!!!
This book was about Isla, the other partner in "Dirty Exes" company and about Jessie Beckett, ex-quarterback and one of the main characters in the previous book!!!!
As we witnessed at the end of the previous book, something was going on between Isla and Jessie.... There was thin sexual tension between them, of course after Jessie's irritation about the bathroom "incident".... Bahahaha....
But in this book, after almost a year from the moment that they first met, the things were very different...
"Yeah, I could forgive a hell of a lot.
But I'd bled for the reputation I had.
My worst fear had come true.
And I only had one person to blame."
Jessie is pissed off and he is determined to close down the "Dirty Exes"... For an unknown and unreasonable reason, he is accusing Isla for ruining his reputation after his divorce...
Truth be told, i never understood why he was insisting that the fault was upon Isla's shoulders, when Blaire was after him too...
Isla, from the other side, was determined to not let him win... This job was her life and she was refusing to lose it by someone like him...
So, as you can understand, a kind of war is starting between them...
"It wasn't him.
Or any effect he had on me.
This was war.
And I was going to win."
It was such fun to witness the stunts that they were pulling those two...
But their attraction was too big and it brought them more problems that they could have predict...
And then, they were forced to work together and it wasn't in their favor...
How they will manage to survive from this "war"???
Will love find its way in their hearts when they are so determined to win their war???
"I may want to destroy her. But I was still a guy. A guy who knew how damn tempting she was..."
In the previous book, i can't say that i loved Jessie... It was a good guy, but nothing more...
But in here, i understood him better and i liked him very much for Isla...
He was a little bit weird... A control freak who wanted everything to be perfect in his world... He was even using only the colors black and white, for God's shake!!!! He was a freak!!!!
He was giving too much thought on the appearances and for that reason, he was getting on my nerves!!! His ex really did a number to him!!!
Thank God, Isla turned him to a different person and i liked what i saw after her influence!!!!
"Isla... I hate to look more arrogant... but I know what to do with your heart."
"Oh yeah?"
"Yeah. I don't want to hold your heart, Isla... I don't even want to own it... I just want you to share it with me."
Isla was hurt by her ex fiance and this job was her life... She couldn't let anyone to ruin that for her... Especially, a man like Jessie!!! This man was infuriated, but at the same so damn hot and that was messing with her mind...
She was determined to play his game and to win him over, but then something happened and she realized that her heart was in serious danger...
She was also a control freak, but at least, she was wearing bright colors!!!! Bahahaha...
"He really slouldn't say things like that to me...
They were dangerous.
So. Dangerous."
Those two together were perfect!!!
Yep, they went throught many things, but that things made them stronger and better than before!!!
But i have to admit that the things were moving a little bit too fast for them, but... i can accept it!!!
Well, for once again, i liked Colin and Blaire, even though i would preffer to had see them a little bit more...
But the person that took center stage in this story was Goo-Poh... God, this woman was crazy and i loved her!!!!

Another amazing ingenious love story riddled with angst and troubles by this awesome author. As usual, Rachel Van Dyken doesn't disappoint when it comes to relationships between exs with an undeniable attraction to each other. What starts out as damage control and revenge may just turn into an unexpected love story that could either save them or destroy them.
“There was a very fine line between love and hate.”
From friends to enemies.
Once upon a time, a client came into Dirty Exes to expose her cheating, dirtbag husband. Like any good PI, they followed and tracked his every move only to come to the conclusion that he must be guilty. As time went by they discovered they were wrong, the wife had duped them all. During their espionage, they became close, friends even, with the former dirtbag husband. When all was said and done, the client, aka dirty cheating ho-bag, went public with her tale and crucified not only the innocent and now ex-husband but the PI firm as well.
Jessie was angry, furious, abso-freaking-lutely livid. He worked hard his whole life to get to where he was only to have it destroyed by his evil ex-wife and the stupid PI firm. He’s had enough. Tired of being walked on and his name dragged through the mud, nothing but the sweetest revenge will satisfy his sweet tooth. She destroyed his life and now he was going to do the same her.
Isla is damaged. She knows she is. Her ex did a number on her and even felt the need to blame his infidelity on her. Time heals all wounds, or working to make sure every lying scumbag gets their due does. Unfortunately, the last case blew up in their faces and now Jessie is set on making her life miserable. Why not fight fire with fire? He thinks he can ruin her? Two can play that game.
With battle lines drawn, these two go head to head at every turn. A once simple plan explodes and they find themselves on the same side for once. Each hilarious misstep leads them into a tangled web that pulls them closer together. Lines become blurred, desire ramps up and feelings start to transform. When deception is exposed, this new and fragile relationship starts to crumble.
Fan-freaking-tastic!!! Rachel has a gift for storytelling. Half the time I was belly laughing and the other half biting my lip while frantically reading and turning the page to find out where this crazy story would go next. I adored the characters. Jessie and Isla were strong, stubborn, sarcastic and witty. They perfectly played against one another. Goo-Poh was hilarious- I’m pretty sure she and Grandma Nadine (from The Bet series) were twins separated at birth. Oh! Kitchen counters and flour-can you get any hotter??? This scene was amazing- the spontaneity, the chest-heaving passion-absolutely yum! This is one that you want to dive into. Rachel never fails to take us away from reality and give us a freaking fantastic time in her worlds.
She delivered solid gold with this one!
First of all let me start off by saying that I loved this book! It's amazing and different to any other plot I have red before, Jessie is dashingly sexy yet sweet, considerate and kind at the same time whilst, Isla is a kick ass female with a soft side too. The way RVD portrayed the characters was incredible - Jessie being "OCD", and I use the term lightly because it was mentioned that he wasn't legally diagnosed and Isla being a complete control freak with a thing for organisation (which is so relatable as I too live for lists and highlighters).
This book was special to me though because as a Chinese woman born in the UK it's difficult to find books that appropriately represent what it's like and how different the cultures are. RVD did so in a way that was funny and yet not offensive at all - just the truth. There were quirks that I'm sure other woman like me will find funny from the no shoes in the house to crazy herbal tea.
I recommend this book to everyone but especially to those who are Chinese born in another country as I'm sure you'll find the traditions and quirks in this book to be hilarious.
3.5 stars rounded up to 4. Maybe I should have read book 1 but I didn't. I had a hard time warming up to Jessie in this one. The chemistry with Isla kind of won me over a bit and I enjoyed the more humorous moments too.
Revenge….it’s the fuel that Jessie Beckett needs to take destroy Isla’s private investigation company. After taking on Jessie’s ex as a client, the sport star’s life began to take upon a downward turn. Accused of cheating on his wife, Jessie’s reputation shattered at the drop of a hat. All of his charity works a drop in the bucket now that the label was associated with Jessie’s name. The person that Jessie feels is the cause of that demise is none other than Isla and her investigative company.
Jessie decides to make it his mission to destroy Isla and her business. Everywhere that Isla showed up, Jessie wasn’t far behind. The sexy ex-quarterback was hard to ignore, even if he was bringing havoc to Isla’s life. This war of wills was a raging conflict, but one moment changed it all, their battle of wills so hard to ignore when the attraction between the two was so hard to fight. As the walls of their anger began to fall, Isla could no longer contain what was in her heart. What neither could predict was the reality of their situation or if everything was a just a game.
Dangerous Exes is the second book in the Liars, Inc series by Rachel Van Dyken. This story follows Jessie after his marriage crumbled. It is witty, engaging and left me giggling at the antics. The enemies turned lovers was an excellent story plot for Isla and Jessie. Both have to find a way to weed through the lies, and damage that played a part in the way they met. Nothing about these two is ‘normal’, but that is what makes this attraction unique!
When Rachel Van Dyken puts pen to paper, you never quite know what will come out on the other side. In the Liars, Inc series – comedy fuels the memorable relationships that grace the covers of these novels. Everything that Rachel puts into the reading world is full of interesting characters and an engaging plot. Jessie and Isla lead readers into the middle of their war of wills, leaving you laughing and rooting for the pair. Another great romance to add to your Rachel Van Dyken collection!!
An enjoyable read but somehow I couldn't fully enjoy it as much as I would have like to.
None the less, I'd read it again even if it's just for the grandma...she was the star of the book for me hahahaha
I've loved every single Rachel Van Dyken book I've read and this one is no exception. Like every other book, you laugh, cry, get super pissed, then go back to laughing and swooning over usually-muscled guys. Rachel Van Dyken is seriously a queen and an automatic read for me.
***I received an e-copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to NetGalley, Skyscape and Rachel Van Dyken.***
Dangerous Exes, by Rachel Van Dyken, is book 2 in the Liars, Inc. series, and it picks up right where book 1 leaves off. Ex-NFLer Jessie wants revenge against the PI company that ruined his reputation. Isla, one of the owners of that company is racking her brain to come up with a solution that won’t end with her company in ruins. Neither can seem to contain their attraction for the other, and a wayward kiss goes viral in the press. The pair decide to play at love to save their reputations. When their feelings begin to morph and change as they get know one another, it’s hard to tell what is pretending and what is real.
I had a bit of a hard time settling into this story. There was so much anger at the beginning, especially from Jessie, and it simply didn’t make sense. Why would he be irrationally angry with Isla but forgive Blaire when they own the PI firm together? Plus, he’s more or less a nice guy in book 1 I thought, so that didn’t fit the persona that showed up in book 2. I admit I felt like I didn’t *really* get to know him that well in book 1, but my impression of him in at the start of book 2 wasn’t great. Truthfully, I found it hard to like either Isla or Jessie until they stopped fighting with one another. Once they did, I liked them very much. They certainly had great chemistry, though it was a little too focused on the physical for much of the book. I adored the ending, and Goo-pah, Isla’s grandmother, was a hoot, providing all kinds of laughs!
This could be read as a stand-alone, but if you liked book 1, you’re probably going to enjoy this one as well.
Dangerous Exes is a work of true brilliance, Jessie and Isla’s relationships shines through the pages of Rachel Van Dyken’s new release. Determined to end Isla’s business is Jessie’s mission, getting mixed into a fake relationship is not what he had in mind. Isla trying to help Jessie get back what he’s lost after his crazy ex made him look like the back guy. Posing for the cameras, and faking a relations came make all the bad press go away, but what happens when the fake relationship turns real? I completely fell in love with this story line, Isla is headstrong, determined and Jessie is strong and lovable. Let’s not forget to mention Goo-Poh the comedic relief and the true depiction on how family members act (seriously she is priceless). This book is a MUST read, that you will not be able to put down!
I'm finding that Rachel Van Dyken almost always delivers the things that I love - great characters, strong storylines, and fantastic side characters. The witty banter and quirky side characters made me laugh out loud at times. I just love this world that Van Dyken has created. Highly recommend this book and the series itself! It's a fantastic read!
My goodness I haven’t laughed like this in a long while. I swear it doesn’t matter the genre, Rachel is going to leave you in Stitches with her characters. Isla and Jessie were LIFE with this read. As I write this review I already want to read this duet again. These characters were the funnest and I loved the fact that we got a story from these two after. Besides, we KNEW there was more to Jessie and I wanted to know every detail. Alright. Back to the story. The story that leaves you laughing and swooning on top of having all the feelings for these two. I could easily read an entire second novel about these 4 characters. Give me Epilogue after epilogue and I will be continually happy. At the end of the day though, this was a story about loving the parts of yourself that you have hidden and finding some else who not only sees them but loves them just that much more.
