This was my first time reading from this author. Whilst there was some things in this book that dragged me out of the story a little, I overall enjoyed it and would be happy to pick up from this author again
This was a brilliant read. As soon as I started reading this book I just knew I was going to love it. Highly recommended
Despite the novel being well written I found it hard going and could just not get into it. Interesting plot and good characters
Excellent first installment in a new series, I really enjoyed the interaction between the two main characters. Good character development and interesting plot. A very interesting read. I definitely recommend.
This is the first book in a new series, and I can not wait for the next one! Recommended for anyone who loves a gripping read from the pen of a new talent.
excellent from the word go, will rival other murder detectives if this series continues. Not 100 per cent sure if set slightly into the future but it doesn't detract from a good read and keeps you guessing until the end. Not sure police and criminals should be mixing but I am sure it happens!!!!
I will be waiting for the next one with interest.
Last Goodbye is the first book I have read by this author and it certainly won't be my last. Last Goodbye is set in Dublin and DI Eli Quinn and newly promoted DS Roxy Malloy have to find out who is murdering seemingly happy couples and his signature move is leaving yellow roses at the scene of the crime and laying out the women a certain way. The race is on to catch the killer dubbed "The Wolf" by the Gardai and "The Sweetheart Killer" by the tabloids before anymore couples are murdered. I was totally hooked by the whole storyline and the way this book was written and loved all the twists and turns and I can't wait to read book 2 and get to know the characters in this series better.
Thank you very much to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author Arlene Hunt for the ARC of Last Goodbye my review is honest and unbiased in anyway.
The start of this one really threw me for a minute. It's set in some sort of future Dublin which is a bit weird as it's otherwise a standard and quite good police procedural. Once yippy get past that it's grand. I'm not sure if this is part of a series, I'd like to read more titles with Roxy featuring.
Sehr realistisch gezeichnete Charaktere und Handlung, ohne ins klischeehafte abzudriften. Interessante Erklärung für die Geschichte mit prima Ende.
Very entertaining, creepy and twisted police procedure mystery.
It started slow and there were moments when I lost interest. But it truly a good mystery, ending was unexpected. And I hope there'll be more Roxy Malloy and Eli Quinn stories.
If you liked Tana French Dublin squad tales then you'll enjoy Arlene Hunt's thriller.
Caleb is an interesting character!!!!!,
A really good first book in a new series,I found it enjoyable and could easily have read in one sitting, fast paced and well written and I enjoyed the writers style....I look forward to book 2
Wow what a great start to a new series of books by Arlene Hunt.
Thoroughly enjoyed it, it was edge of your seat stuff with some red herrings along the way to put you off of the scent of the real killer. I enjoyed the story, I liked the characters they were complex and interesting and there were plenty of twists to keep me guessing.
I was excited to read this one and I wasn’t disappointed it was excellent and I don’t hesitate in giving it 5 stars.
I love a good serial! So always get excited by a “book 1”! I really liked the plot and the characters were likeable. It was easy to read and I will look out for book 2!
This is a really good read. I read this book in one sitting. It is fast paced. There is a lot happening in this book. I liked the characters and I hope that there are more books to come in this series.
Thank you to Netgalley for my copy.
Excellent story line which was gripping from start to finish. Great characters. I would highly recommend this book.
Wow, what a start to this one. A woman’s body found, posed, hair layed out like a bright halo, and yellow roses on the bedside table. Creeeeepy for sure.
Murders of couples have the people on edge, scared and it is no wonder. These are just your everyday people, nothing liken them together. That is beside the murders themselves. Police are workin overtime to put a stop to the murders. Who is behind the murders? And why the roses? Why is it that the woman seems to be the focus of the killer. Detective Quinn and Malloy are to trying find out.
The story is given to us in multiple POV’s even the serial killer themself. Getting into the mind of a serial killers mind was intense and creepy for sure. Detective Quinn and is newly recruited partner DS Malloy but heads quite a bit, but I think their hearts are in the right place. Solve these murders at any cost. There were a couple of side characters that I really like, especially the medical examiner and Cora as well. It was a really good cast of some strong characters all working together.
The pacing of this doesn’t let up from the first page to the last. So many clues and twists are throughout on this one, and it sure takes you one hell of a ride piecing all of the clues together. It all lead up to one great ending. I am curious to see where these two detectives will take us on their next case. If I had one complaint, it would be that we don’t get to know these two very well, but it is the first book and hopefully we get to know a little more about them in the coming books.
Overall, this was was an intense and enthralling read. I am looking forward to the next installment. Fans of the suspense thrillers will definitely enjoy this one.
A very promising start to a new series. Set in Dublin and featuring Detectives Quinn and Mallory, the pace is just right and there are two interesting lead characters. Roxy is the new kid on the squad and Eli Quinn is the old master. They have two very different approaches to finding a serial killer A good plot with plenty twists and turns and I would certainly recommend this book to lovers of the genre. Thanks to Net Galley for my copy. I reviewed on Amazon, Goodreads and Facebook.
First in a new series. Interesting characters in the sub plot that I’m sure we will see plenty of development of in the next instalments. Good main plot but I felt the writing could have been ‘tighter’ hence the 4 not 5 stars. That said I will definitely look out for number 2
This is the first book in a new series featuring DI Eli Quinn and DS Roxy Molly and is set in Dublin. Roxy is on a probationary period as a DS, so is out to impress. She is called out to investigate the murder of a young woman wh9 has been brutally beaten and the killer has left behind a bunch of yellow roses. DIQuinn is investigating the gruesome murder of a young couple in their home and the killer also seems to have left some yellow roses. The cases seem to be linked, and after some persuasion Roxy is allowed to join forces with Quinn to solve the case and capture the ‘Sweetheart Killer’. We get to know ‘wolf’ the killer and find out about how he fantasises about women and why he is so troubled. The first chapter will draw you in and then you will be hooked. Everything will be on hold until you have finished the book and the final twists and turns will leave you, like me, eagerly anticipating book number two In the series. A fantastic read!
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
My first crime book for a while and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it and it made me want to pick up more from the genre.
It was an interesting start to a new series. It is set in Ireland and there was a lot of politics etc in this. Could be interesting for the future.
Roxy Malloy is a great female character. She is strong, smart and most of all a very principled person.
Eli Quinn is another strong character. He wants to be like Roxy and likes the fact she is so principled. Even if he isn’t as moral as her. He was a bit too invested in the politics and corruption of others.
The killer was interesting. I do wish they had explored him a bit more and the others like him. He was caught a bit too easily and overall thing happened way too quickly for my liking.
The secondary killer character was good too. I expected a little more from the ending and the father, I didn’t expect the one we got. Maybe I am just more blood thirsty revenge wise though?
I look forward to the next one in the series, I will definitely be reading it.
