I loved this book! It had a little bit of everything romance, suspense, mystery and an empowerment for women. This is the first time I have read anything by Laura Trentham but it wont be the last I cant wait to go back and read the novel previously wrote by this author. I loved Ella and her kick butt attitude sh has been kicked down a lot but she keeps getting back up And the Abbott family you will fall in love with all of them. I have!!
Good romance.
Mack is the owner of a garage with his brothers when one decides to sell his share to Ella.
Mack and Ella doesn't like each other or do they.
Good story, characters, little drama and lots of passion.
Enjoyed reading.
I was pleasantly surprised that the Abbott's were back. The story continuation was flawless and like there was no time between books. I can't wait for Ford's story.
This is part of a series but is a stand alone. I have not read the other books and there were a few things I am sure we in the other books before this one but I did not feel like I missed anything. Mack has been carrying a heavy burden keeping the family business going. His brothers are partners except for Ford who sold his share to an outsider. There is a lot going on in this story and I felt I was part of the community. Ella just wanted to honor her brother. The Amos brothers wanted to keep the garage in the family. Ella had suffered a lot at the hands of men and she was just coming into her own. Would Mack destroy her too?
This is the first book I’ve ready by LAura, and while you definitely know you’re missing out on a bunch of back story, it was still a pretty good read.
I gave this book three stars because while it was a decent read I didn’t connect with the characters at all. I was just kind of along for the ride instead of fully immersed in the story.
I received an ARC from the publisher via netgalley.com. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.
After divorcing her unfaithful and abusive husband, Ella Boudreaux, the real brains behind their business, founded her own investment company, Magnolia Investments and moved to Cottonbloom. She started buying up real estate and in honor of her beloved, but deceased older brother, Grayson, purchased a quarter of Abbott Brothers car garage and restoration business, from the oldest Abbott brother, Ford. But the other brothers are not happy and want the business to stay in the family. Mack, who has held the business together after their father died from a heart attack a year and a half ago, feels he failed his father. Mack is belligerent when Ella comes to the garage, but he is also drawn to her. Aside from superficial differences, they have a lot of similar family history in common. As Ella demonstrates what she is capable of contributing to the garage, Mack has second thoughts about wanting her gone.
This is the 6th book in the series, but I read it as a stand alone. Mack's twin younger brothers, Wyatt and Jackson, found their mates in previous books and there were many references to things that happen in those books, that had direct impact on this one. It would have been helpful to have a Prologue, repeating what had occurred at the New Year's Eve Party, since it was referred to several times, but not explained.
The book is well written with fascinating characters and several twists in the plot. I would have given it a higher score if that New Year's Eve thing was clearer, since that was not only when Mack and Ella met, but also the springboard for the garage share purchase.
I loved this book & it was my favorite one in the series so far! This book could easily stand on it's own though, if you have not read the others in the series yet. I am hoping she puts out more books in this series!
This was a great book. When Ella's marriage ends she decides to buy into and work in a business that brings back good memories from her childhood - an auto garage. Mack is angry that his brother has sold his share of the business to someone who is not part of the family. Can they manage to work together even with their differences and the sparks of chemistry flying between them? This book can be read as a standalone story, though it is #6 in the Cottonbloom series. I enjoyed this book very much and look forward to reading more books in this series as well as other books by this author.
The Abbott brothers are amazing again. I loved Mack and Ella's story. Mack is the hard-nosed, serious brother with a huge chip on his shoulder. Furious that his brother, Ford, has sold out his share of the garage, Mack is taken aback when a woman shows up to claim her place in the daily activities.
Ella knows where she isn't wanted and the Abbott Brothers garage is that place. Mack sees her as a threat and she simply feels a sense of calm and peace and connection to the brother she lost who had a love for car restoration. Ella is also trying to start over after a disasterous marriage that left her emotionally burned but scorned just enough to build a backbone ready to take on the likes of Mack Abbott.
While Mack and Ella work out their new partnership they develop and bond and some strong chemistry. While I enjoyed their story there were stronger elements of love and forgiveness and growth that shine through that can't be ignored. A childhood robbed by the one you called mom just might not be for the reasons you thought. But how can you forgive? A brother who abandons and sells his share of your heritage- how do you forgive? A woman destroying your marriage- yet you forgive? Mack is going to learn a lot from Ella and Ella will learn to heal and love from Mack. Great story!
Set the Night on Fire is a pretty decent romance novel. While the book offers no real surprises-you pretty much know the outcome from page 2-it does provide some very steamy romance. Also, I have not read any other books in this series; however, that didn't cause a problem at all. This is a great book if you are looking for something light and mindless in which to lose yourself.
I received this book free from NetGalley in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion.
This is another lovely installment in the Cottonbloom series, and boy do I love those Abbott boys.
I have to say, I preferred WHEN THE STARS COME OUT to this book - while Willa's personal story felt like a bit of a stretch, I loved both her and Jackson's characterisations. In SET THE NIGHT ON FIRE, I frequently found myself frustrated by Mack and Ella's toing and froing - the will-they-won't-they felt like it was dragged out quite a bit.
Having said that, it's still a really nice read - light and sexy, with plenty of moments of humour and fun.
One major issue I had is that I found a lot of Ella's and her ex's behaviours really hard to believe - it felt like Laura Trentham was using domestic abuse as a plot device without really investing in it as a serious story line. Ella, fresh out of this abusive relationship, is on the verge of forgiving her ex (and even takes in the woman he had an affair with(????)) as we near the end of the story just because he offers his own pathetic reasoning for why he is the way he is - she's a little too goody-goody for me and I found myself disliking her for it.
This is an extremely enjoyable series of 8 books (so far). I haven't read them from the very beginning, but do plan on going back to read them as I really enjoy the small town of Cottonbloom and Laura Trentham's style of writing. Cottonbloom is split into two by the river, half on the wealthy Mississippi side, and half in the less wealthy Louisiana side. This is the third of the Abbott brothers stories, who own and run Abbott Brothers Garage (if you're going to jump in the middle like me I'd recommend starting with 'Leave the Night On' which starts the Abbott Brothers stories).
This story is about the oldest brother, Mack, and their new partner at their restoration garage, Ella Boudreaux . The black sheep of the four brothers, Ford, sold out his share of the garage to Ella and disappeared to Memphis. Ella is divorced from her abusive, idiot of a ex and has done really well with her divorce settlement, investing and making more money. Everyone thought her husband was the brains behind their business and wealth when they were married, where in actual fact it was Ella's business acumen that had made them so successful.
Ella wanted a clean break so moved to Cottonbloom and is slowly getting to know the town, although not a lot of people know how successful she is and assume her money is through her divorce settlement. Ella bought into the garage partly because it was a good business opportunity, but also because of sentimentality, because her deceased brother loved cars and it makes her feel closer to him.
The Abbott brothers aren't particularly happy that Ford sold his share of their business, but the twins (Wyatt and Jackson) think she may be able to help their business and accept that there's nothing they can do at the moment but give her a chance. Mack on the other hand isn't happy at all, initially, but sparks fly between Mack and Ella and they start to get closer as time goes on.
By the end there are various family and romantic issues sorted out and Ella finds her place in Cottonbloom and the Abbott family. I loved Ella's strong character, she was just perfect for Mack. I can't wait to revisit Cottonbloom, I love this series, very enjoyable.
First I love visiting all my friends in Cottonbloom. Laura totally makes these characters come to life. Ella buys out part of Mack's family garage. Mack's brothers are willing to give Ella a chance. However Mack cannot be swayed so easily even though he is drawn to Ella. Ella and Mack are very similar they both have hurt and sadness in their past. Ella is strong she also possesses delicate beauty and has a soft heart. Ella has grace and spirit and wants to help others in need. Mack is stubborn and lonely. Mack is comfortable in his own skin. Mack sees the real Ella messy and unsure but fierce. Mack gives Ella confidence. Ella helps Mack confront his family issues. Mack realizes he needs Ella and wants her in his life everyday and night. I cannot express how I love this series. I would totally recommend this series for any romance lover.
This is a great book that I had a hard time putting down. This is the story of Mack Abbott & Ella Boudreaux. They are at odds because Ella bought Mack’s estranged brother’s portion of their garage business & Mack isn’t happy about it. He doesn’t want it to be outside the family. She is looking to start over after a tough divorce. Mack’s twin younger brothers are happily in relationships & want to give Ella a chance. Along the way, Ella’s ex-husband’s current wife shows up on her doorstep, Ella & Mack are feeling each other out, & Mack is trying to figure out what to do with his estranged brother & mother. To find out if Ella f Mack develop a relationship & what happens with the other characters, I recommend reading this book.
"Set the Night on Fire" by Laura Trentham
I loved this story. I enjoyed reconnecting with the characters from a previous Cottonbloom novel. This is a stand alone contemporary romance, with a bit more detail than I prefer in a few scenes. I laughed and feared and teared up too, so glad I was gifted a copy of this book via NetGalley. This is an easy read, a can-not-put-it-down book with a lesson or two to be learned.

Book 6, I was gifted a review copy... I haven't read any other book in the series, I cant go into book 6 without reading the first 5 first, with checking online that it is a story you need to be able to understand what is happening in this small town.
I loved returning to Cottonbloom, such distinct and strong characters, and the plot was entertaining and passionate. The love story was sweet with a bit of the emotional tension that always heightens the storyline. Mack and Ella were perfect together, so strong they jumped off the page. The conflict of her having bought out Ford’s share of the Abbott garage, and how Mack wants the interloper gone as quickly as possible, was well executed and developed really well. It made for such a great story. Ella hasn’t had it easy and she has made something out of her life and doesn’t want to hand over control to a man ever again. Mack is such a take charge and manage everything kind of guy that Ella totally shakes up his well oiled life in a way he isn’t sure he wants. I loved every second. It was sweet. It was beautiful. It was romantic. Such a great small town romance series.
This is a very cute book. the same theme as many books but that is why it works. Ella Boudreaux is a wealthy divorcee who returns to her hometown. She buys into the Abbotts garage because of all the good memories she had with her brother. She knows about cars. Mack Abbott is mad his brother sold part of the garage to her and is determined to get it back. the story goes from there. lots of misunderstandings. attraction and conflict with ex-husbands and others. I really enjoyed it thank you Net galley for letting me read this book!
As I started reading Set the Night on Fire I wasn’t sure what I was in for, but the synopsis sounded like a pretty hot enemies to lovers story so I pushed through the first chapter and that’s when things got good.
Really good.
Ella left her cheating dirtbag of an ex-husband and decided to start over in Cottonbloom, using part of her divorce settlement to invest in a garage that specializes in restoration. For Ella this job is a connection to the brother she loved more than anything. But for garage owner and all around big brother bossy business head honcho, Mack, Ella’s presence is a thorn in his side. A reminder of his failings.
And he wants Ella gone.
Bye bye. Hasta la vista, baby.
After a cruel joke and plenty of verbal barbs, Ella and Mack finally start to behave like professional adults. Slowly these two realize they have more in common than they realized, never mind the chemistry that flowed between them whenever they were together. The thing that made Set the Night on Fire different from other reads is the real question of how Ella and Mack could possibly move forward when there was something really big standing between them, namely her portion of the family business…that he wants back. Desperately. That dynamic made for an interesting story that kept me intrigued.
The side story with Mack’s brother Ford and the mother who abandoned the brothers was really touching and made me want to know the Abbott brothers even more.
Set The Night On Fire by Laura Trentham is a fabulous, well-written book by Laura Trentham. Ms. Trentham has given us a book that is loaded with outstanding, lovable characters. Ella bought shares of the Abbott Brothers Garage and Restoration, against the wishes of three of the brothers. Mack is determined to buy back the shares and keep the business in the family. Ella and Mack's story is loaded with drama, humor, sizzle and a bit of suspense. I enjoyed reading Set The Night On Fire and look forward to reading more from Laura Trentham in the future. Set The Night On Fire is book 6 in the Cottonbloom Series but can easily be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
