Recovering from a disastrous marriage, Ella Boudreaux hopes to show she can make it on her own. With money received from her divorce settlement, she purchases a quarter ownership of Abbott's garage when the oldest brother Ford decides to part with his share. This does not sit well with the remaining three brothers, Mack and the twins, Jackson and Wyatt.
Mack especially wants to keep the business in the family and certainly is against a woman sticking her nose in it and trying to run things. But Mack is surprised upon meeting Ella. A devout bachelor with his heart and soul focused on cars, he is shocked not only by Ella's good looks but also when she shows she knows something about vehicles.
From Ella's childhood days, she remembers hanging around with her older brother while he tinkered on refurbishing old vehicles and the joy she had in his presence. Now that he is deceased, she hopes to bring back some of those good memories, and she is bound and determined to do so with Abbot's by increasing profits with her marketing skills.
Much to Mack's dismay, Wyatt and Jackson urge him to give her a chance, but the water-to- vinegar relationship that commences between Ella and Mack soon takes a complete turn. They both discover an attraction they cannot deny, but Ella mistrusts Mack, believing he is he is wooing her only so she will sell her part of the company to him. He refuses to commit to anything other than his business, though his hormones and his family are in agreement that he should settle down with Ella.
Meanwhile, Ella holds strong feelings for Mack, despite the fact she's already been burned. Will the two be able to mix business with pleasure? Book #6 in the Cottonbloom is sensual and seductive proving love can happen when least expected.
Absolutely loved this book and I didn’t want it to end found it to be well written and the characters I felt really were brought to life through the word of this author will be wanting to read more books
A fabulous return to the Abbott family and to the town of Cottonbloom
A lovely feel good read, where Family, loyalty and misplaced ideals, keeps us entertained.
I look forward to reading the next instalment with anticipation
Contemporary Southern romance of a woman with inner strength and humor.
Etta Boudreaux survived a miserable childhood and the death of her beloved brother, only yo marry a controlling alcoholic abuser. She was smart, and intuitive and helped him amass money and stature.
Luckily for Ella, he decided he needed a younger wife, so she took her fair share of their money and happily left to start a new life on her own.
She did well financially, letting everyone think her fiances came from alimony, not the brains she used so well, but she missed her brother Grayson badly.
When the opportunity came to invest in a garage, she did it in order to feel closer to Grayson. Despite bickering with Mason, the oldest Abbott brother about her involvement in the garage, she felt drawn to him, and he eventually realized the need to push her buttons was a need for a reaction to him.
They navigate the partnership, help out a family in need and Ella not only has to deal with the ex.....but ends out helping the current Mrs.Boudreaux.
All told with crisp descriptions of people, emotional scenes and steamy love scenes.
I requested and was granted a NetGalley ARC.
This is the first book that I have read in this series and I didn't feel like I was lost by not reading the other books. I loved this book. It starts off a little slow but as you read you get sucked in it makes you laugh and cry. Mack and Ella had great chemistry. I really felt for the characters when they were dealing with loss, forgiveness in order to move on, divorce, abuse. I was sad when it ended. I will be reading the rest of the series for sure
When Mack comes to know that his brother, Ford has sold his share of the garage to Ella, he is furious. And wants to buy it back from Ella no matter what.
For Ella, the garage has brought back some of her happier moments spent with her brother and is not interested in selling. What they are both not prepared for is the animosity between them to morph into unharnessed electricity, exciting and dangerous.
This book surpassed my expectations. The small town charm, family, community and the bond between the brothers all felt heart touching. A great read with sizzling chemistry, romantic and swoon worthy hero. I hope Fords story is also in pipeline, would love to read it.
I enjoyed this latest book in the Cottonbloom series. This was Ella and Mack's story. At their first meeting at the end of the last book, they had sparks flying, but a huge obstacle was in the way of them becoming friends and certainly no possibility of anything more than friendship.
The Abbott Garage was in disarray since Ford had sold his 1/4 share in the garage to Ella. Ella was not well known in the community and everyone had the wrong impression of her character. The beginning of this story is Ella trying to fit in and improve the Abbott Garage and Mack holding on to the old way of doing things and not wanting to budge. As time goes on, Ella is doing wonders in modernizing the inventory and billing system and the sparks ignite between Ella and Mack, to their dismay. The plot gets very interesting as their relationship begins and comes to full love.
Both are dealing with issues from their childhood and become stronger having someone that understands and can help them grow. Things get steamy at times, but not more than most romance novels written now.
I enjoyed this book and the continuing story of this small town. I look forward to the next installment of living in Cottonbloom.
I want to thank St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley.com for the ARC of this book. Since I enjoyed it so much, I wanted to write a review and recommend it to others.
I love this series and have been looking forward to this latest instalment for awhile.
It delivered in terms of the UST between Mack and Ella in the build-up prior to admitting their feelings for each other. I also liked how all the guys underestimated Ella and she proved them all wrong by being a super smart investor.
The ending and the ultimate HEA felt a bit too rushed for me given the characters' journeys.
Another great book by Laura in the cottonbloom series. This is a great series that tells about family love and people caring for their community. Mac and Ella bump heads after she buys shares in the family garage business. They learn that they have more in common then they thought. Lots of charm and romance.
I like the family connections in, Set the Night on Fire. Some are a little odd, but they work.
As an extra bonus, there is a bonus epilogue of Wyatt and Sutton's wedding.
Ella is divorced and just became part owner of a restoration garage. Mack is one of the owners along with his brothers. One of them sold his shares to Ella and he’s not happy about it. Mack doesn’t want Ella there but she proves to be more than just a pretty face. She comes up with the idea to raise money for a couple in town by hosting a car show. The closer the fundraiser approaches, the closer Ella and Mack get. But when she overhears a conversation between Mack and his cousin, she has papers drawn up so Mack can buy her portion. Can Mack convince her how much she means to him or will he lose her?
Great story. Romantic, sexy, and a second chance for Mack and his brothers.
Great read from start to finish. Hooked me from the start. Likeable characters and great chemistry. Really builds as it goes
4.5 stars
Mack and Ella have been stewing in my brain since the last book and their not so wonderful first meeting. Ella’s feisty nature was attracted to Mack’s gruffy persona and contrary to the argumentative vibes, they have more in common than not, especially in the personality department of hard-headed stubbornness and pride. However, their big hearts (yes, Mack is a softie under all that gruffness!) is what I loved most. Even when these two were butting heads, they still gave consideration for not just other people, but also each other.
I carried high hopes their enemy status would change for the better, but holy moly! I honestly wasn’t expecting the level of heat these two could generate! The foreplay was wicked fun, yet tempered with heavier emotions neither wanted to admit to, it gave their relationship an edgier slow burn that literally sizzled off the pages and was so, so good!
Of course, this wouldn’t be a Cottonbloom novel without family and community, so be prepared for fantastic heartfelt moments (seriously the feels!), well-intentioned family ribbing and straight up truths, along with a side dish of generous community giving to help one of their own!
I know I’ve said it again and again, but Trentham has created a family and town full of love and dysfunction, making it easy to relate to one or all of the characters in some way or another. The Cottonbloom series is small town charm and romance at its best and I highly recommend the books for anyone looking for a warm-hearted read!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Review
I have been waiting to read Mack’s story since we were first introduced to the Abbott brothers, a man who carries the weight of expectations on his shoulder. After the loss of their father, Mack makes it is life to ensure the garage thrives and is devastated when their estranged brother Ford sells his share to Ella, a wealthy socialite. Sparks flew immediately, but it wasn’t till this book, that you learn Ella is not who Mack thought she was. She’s tough, stubborn, and dedicated, but she carries wounds from her past....infact she is a lot like Mack. I don’t want to spoil anything but I wasn’t disappointed in this book, It was so good to catch up with previous characters and learn more about Ford and the brothers Mum as well. I hope Ford gets his own book, he needs a HEA as well
Congratulations on a fantastic book Laura
I must immediately visit the South and find out what a "no-seem-um" is.
I believe her brother died, right?
I want a grandfather clock.
Bastard.
His rescuing of her was sexy.
Her brother was the only decent man in her life.
Mmm, barbeque.
At least they all made up with Ford. Being completely comfortable with their mom will take time.
Three and a half stars.
At the end of the last book we found out that Ford Abbott (the second oldest Abbott son) has sold his quarter of the family business to fund his gambling debts. He sold the share to a wealthy divorcee called Ella Boudreaux. Mack, the oldest Abbott, is furious and has a stand-up row with Ella in the middle of a swanky party and vows to do everything in his power to bring the business back into Abbott hands.
Ella Boudreaux left an abusive marriage, she knows everyone thinks she's a gold-digger but the reality is somewhat different. She bought the share in the Abbott garage in memory of her older brother who loved cars and taught her to drive when she was just twelve years old. She's determined to carve out a new life, alone, in Cottonbloom starting with the Abbott garage.
I had really high hopes for this one, the start of it kind of reminded me a little of Sutton and Wyatt's story and I was hoping for a rich woman meets surly mechanic romance with a soupçon of Pride and Prejudice thrown in for good measure. Of course the reality was somewhat different.
Mack is floundering, he and his brother are at odds, his two younger brothers are happily loved up, his mother (who he hasn't seen since he was young) has resurfaced, and even the bolthole of the family business has been contaminated by Ella buying Ford's share. He's lonely and troubled that his relationship with Ford has broken down so badly, and maybe a bit guilty as well. He takes all of his frustration and guilt out on Ella, but this sophisticated little society woman has a steel core and won't stand any of his bluster. At the same time as he is fighting her with every fibre of his being he is also very slightly turned on by her feisty attitude and refusal to back down.
I liked this, I like the small town vibe, the family business, a woman building a new life for herself without having to put others down in the process. But it wasn't without fault. I felt that Ella's constant references to her saintly brother were repetitive and became tiresome. Similarly, she jumped to ridiculous conclusions about Mack and his motivations. I thought she was being ridiculously obtuse and determined to think the worst, no matter what Mack did or said. Luckily, Mack made it all better. He was a big gruff intimidating man who finds recipes on Pinterest and makes art from metal.
If you like second chance romances with couples who have faced adversity and come through it stronger, small towns and BBQ then this is the romance for you.
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
Requested and received an ARC via Netgalley.

Considering I dropped into the series so late and I’m missing all the history and events referenced in the story....it was still entertaining. I think it would be a definite plus if you read the brothers’ books in order but you can still fully enjoy the sparks getting set off between Ella and Mack. The sexual tension is there from the start but the slow ease into intimacy was the real hook of the story for me. Ella shedding the insecurity from her disastrous marriage, while Mack learns to overcome his bitterness involving his absentee mother and his wayward brother. The only gripe I really had with this book was the sex, the build-up was great as was the foreplay but then it’s all wham bam and done, I don’t know if this is how the author usually writes her sexy times but I would recommend picking a side, either go with it or fade to black. Lame sex is worse than no sex. I also thought the ending was a little rushed considering the “big misunderstanding” had just played out. Overall though I found it really enjoyable and I definitely want to go back and check for the other brothers’ stories.
A fast sizzling, fiery romance read. A divorced entrepreneur buys a quarter share of a family owned garage for nostalgic reasons and tangled immediately with the oldest brother. Sparks fly as the hunky mechanic and the sassy investor do the dance and everyone knows where they will end up. Thrown in the mix are steamy scenes, other brothers, and the imperious officious ex, plus a couple of inquisitive aunts.
I have read all the book in this series and so far this one is my favorite. This book is about Ella and Mack. This is the 3rd book in this series and Mack has been painted as gruff, but if he loves he loves fiercely. Ella was introduced into the series at the end of the 2nd book. She wasn't really painted as bad but you definitely wanted to know more about her.
Mack and his 4 brothers were left their fathers auto shop after he passed. Mack and his twin brothers Wyatt and Jackson ran and worked in the garage while the oldest brother Ford was in marketing. However, he got into some gambling troubles and sold his 4th of the business to Ella. This didn't set well with any of the guys but especially Mack.
This book begins with Ella showing up to met the guys after the deal was closed and she was an owner. Ella knows Mack doesn't care for her and there first meeting was hilarious. I instantly liked Ella and her back bone. Mack really doesn't want to acknowledge his attraction to Ella because more than anything he wants only an Abbott to own the garage. He makes this known and him and Ella constantly go back in forth.
This is a great book with two people who are lost, find their selves. This book is dual POV with a lot of loves and laughs.
I received a copy for an honest review.
