I haven’t read the first 5 books in this series, but I will definitely be doing that, and soon! LOVED this book, and everything about it. First, you have Ella Boudreaux, who is just out of a disastrous marriage and has invested in the Abbott brother’s garage. She has fond memories of the garage, and Ford Abbott sold his share of the garage to her. His brother, Mack, was very unhappy about the deal. What happens when Ella and Mack cross paths? Will they be able to work together? And what happens when sparks start to fly?
Very enjoyable book, the first I’ve read from this author. It won’t be the last!
Ford Abbott, the oldest of the four brothers left Cottonbloom and his brothers as he didn’t want anything to do with the garage they all owned and run. He had gambling debts and sold Ella Boudreaux his 25 per cent share in the garage. Mack Abbott was extremely upset as he wanted the garage to stay in the family. He gave Ella a hard time when she came to the garage to find out about the business. Ella was divorced and everyone thought the money she had was from her ex husband, which was not the case. Her ex husband was much older and had not been good to her. There is something ironical that happens with his current wife who was the one he was cheating with when Ella left him. Ella is not always as composed and self assured as she portrays.
I enjoyed Mack and Ella’s vernal jabs with each other. You can see the sparks coming off the two with the sexual attraction. Ella had a good business head and good personal advice. She was such a rock helping Mack with his estranged mother and older brother. The two aunts kept everyone on their toes! This is a very good book, and I strongly encourage you to read the book. I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader’s Copy of this book.
Set the Night on Fire was my first time reading a book by Laura Trentham, and honestly, I was NOT disappointed! Although it was book 6, it can still easily be read as a standalone, which made it easy for me to slide right into the story and not feel totally lost. And you know I will be going back and reading the 5 other books ASAP!
Mack and Ella have each had their fair share of struggles in life. But that doesn't mean that they hit it off right away and got along right off the bat. Just the opposite really. And man was that fun to read!
The book was truly well written, the story was so easy to get sucked into, and I adored watching these two characters learn more about one another and find their way to a happily ever after.
Definitely recommend this book and am now a true fan of Laura Trentham!
I am loving the Abbot’s! The relationship between brothers can be very interesting to say the least. I love small town living like goes on in Cottonbloom. Friends helping friends is something I love. I love the interactions between these characters. Join the Abbots in their handling the ups and downs that come their way. You may just be hooked on them too.
I received this book from NetGalley. My opinion is my own.
Such a great book . I love the story and the characters. This was a quick read that I just could not put down.
This was a wonderful story, the third in this series about 3 Brothers and is a standalone, but there are references to previous books and I thought they were wonderful too.. Cottonbloom is a small town that straddles the state lines between Mississippi and Louisiana. The Abbott Brothers have taken over the town garage, and car restoration shop after their fathers passes away. This delightful small town book focuses on Mack and Ella, who has bought a stake in the business much to the brothers’ dismay, especially Mack’s. She is divorced but has invested her money wisely, is a force to be reckoned with, and when the opportunity arises to buy in, she does. Lots of good conflict ensues. And lots of secondary characters are involved. All in all, it makes for a great read.

SET THE NIGHT ON FIRE is the sixth novel in Laura Trentham’s successful series set in Cottonbloom, the quirky little town that is divided by a river and a state line. This installment continues with the story of the Abbott brothers who own a car repair and restoration business in blue-collar Cottonbloom, Louisiana.
Oldest Abbott brother Ford, who never really wanted to be a part of the family business, has sold his share to a socialite from ritzy Cottonbloom, Mississippi. This is not setting well with his brother Mack and twins Wyatt and Jackson. Grouchy Mack, especially, is unnerved when it appears that wealthy divorcee Ella Bondreaux plans to get involved in the everyday operation of the business instead of just being a silent partner. Ella, who has been very successful in her previous business dealings, feels she can help the brothers expand their business. She also grew up watching her late brother restore cars and she enjoys the atmosphere of the garage. In spite of their mutual love of cars and similar dysfunctional family baggage, Mack plans to have her around only until he can buy her out. That is until he finds himself incredibly attracted to her.
Both Mack and Ella are well-written and easy to like characters. In spite of Mack’s gruff exterior, he cares deeply about people. He is adamant about preserving what is left of his family and the family business. Ella is a very strong woman and she, too, cares about other people, including people that she, perhaps, shouldn’t care about at all. She and Mack actually have a lot of things in common and their mutual attraction should be no surprise.
The strong secondary characters, most notably the Abbott twins and their significant others, add depth to the story. It helps to have read the previous books in the series in order to have the background of all of the characters, but it certainly is not necessary. The book is well written as a standalone, also.
In my opinion, the story seemed a little slow at the beginning but it didn’t take long to find a better pace. It then remained steady to the end. I was, however, a bit mystified by the “bonus” epilogue that followed the regular epilogue. The regular epilogue did what it was intended to do: tie up loose ends to the current story. The “bonus” epilogue seemed to tie up loose ends from a previous story, or perhaps to the series? I’m not sure, but I’m hoping that our visits to dear little Cottonbloom have not come to an end!
I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
In Mack Abbott's view, his brother, Ford, committed a cardinal sin. He sold his share in the family's Abbott Brother's Garage and Restoration, without telling his family, and to none other than Ella Boudreaux. When Ella arrives to claim her stake in the business, the fireworks begin.
Mack knows Ella is an attractive, wealthy divorcee who has no place in his garage. Ella's is prepared to let him underestimate her, just as her ex-husband did. Beneath all this bravado is a simmering attraction that blooms into a passionate relationship.
Ella shows you can't judge someone only by appearance. She stands up for herself, not only with Mack but also with her ex-husband. Mack's resentment turns to admiration and love as she proves an asset in his life as well as in business . Opening up to Ella helps Mack repair his relationship with Ford and also his estranged Mother.
Laura Trentham's prose paints a vivid picture of small town life, the garage, and the developing relationship between Mack and Ella. You will love the description of Ella's first day at the garage and how she does an oil change!
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
Sweet, sexy and entertaining with these likable characters. I had a hard time putting this down. Set the Night on Fire is a slow burn Romance, it is not rushed and the angst level is just how I like it, not too crazy high but just enough to leave the reader wanting more, waiting in anticipation for something, just anything to happen.
Loved Ella and Mack, they were dramatic, stubborn, romantic and utterly lovely. Their sizzling attraction, as well as the animosity between them is enough to set the night on fire. Loved Mack’s deep love for his family and his passion for the family business.
Well of course I’m not going to tell you the outcome, because you will have to read this book to find out what all happens. But I will say “Set The Night On Fire” is To Die For!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I truly enjoyed this read. It was intense, humorous and a bit of a life lesson twisted with in it. I simply love enemies to lovers stories and I just love it when a hero falls head over heels. Mack did not disappoint when it came to ruggedness, stubbornness, and hotness. Ella reeled this stallion in with her feistiness and determination. Ella's journey was so empowering and her heart was as big as the state of Texas. I really appreciate a strong female lead and Ella was most definitely a strong willed and successful woman.
This book is part of a series that I have not read before, but the author has a way of keeping me caught up with the other characters. I did wonder what happened at the New Year's Eve party between Ella and Mac, but if their current chemistry is an indicator, then I'm guessing that it was intense and hot.
Mack, along with his 3 brothers, owns a car garage that was passed down from their father. One of the brothers, Ford, decides that he doesn't want to be a part of the business and decides to sell his share. In comes stiletto wearing Ella with fresh ideas and a habit of challenging the big and broody Mack.. You see, Ella is a newly divorcee who walked away with a lump sum of money and she wants to prove that she can get elbow deep in her new business venture. The tension between Mack and Ella is so thick that you can cut it with a knife. Mack wants to buy Ella out and Ella just wants that close connection with cars because of her late brother's passion for it.
This book took me for a ride and I loved every flip of the page of this story. A truly touching story about forgiveness, courage, and following your chosen path. One of the many things that I adored about this story was the depth of the characters. This author really digs deep and makes these characters so realistic and relatable. Pick this up now because it is "under the blanket" approved.
I received an Advanced Reader Copy from St. Martin's Press for my unbiased opinion of the book. This is the next instalment in the Cottonbloom series and it does not disappoint!!! I read 4,5, and 6 in a day. It took me five days to read 1-3.75. I highly recommend this series. If you love stories set in the small-town southern stories this is your book and series. All the books in the series are stand alone. This story of Mack Abbott and his new third partner in Abbott's Garage. When his oldest brother Ford sold his share to Ella Boudreaux. Mack was never able to negotiate anything with his older brother who had no interest in the business after his father died and did it just to get away from Cottonbloom, his brothers and his money troubles. When Ella walks into his family business ready to work and all over his ego sparks fly! Will Mack raise the funds to buy Ella out? Will Ella be able to love again and smooth some of Mack rough edges? You need to read it to find out!!! Laura Trentham is my new favorite author!
Another Cottonbloom book with a couple who, at first glance, seems to have nothing in common... and maybe they reaaaaaally don't have.
Ella has just left a failed marriage. But as a woman who does not let herself down, she decides to roll up her sleeves and do something different, such as making the Abbott brothers' garage a successful venture.
But can you imagine a scene where a woman full of opinion, with stilettos, enters a garage? It can not even work...
Mack, Ella's new partner, is furious with his brother for selling his share of society to a woman. A woman full of ideas that he does not want to hear. A woman with the most beautiful legs he's ever seen.
Third World War.
But what's the cool of the plot is when the couple finally decide to listen to their attraction to each other, and Mack learns about Ella's marriage to an abusive ex-husband.
Ella takes possession of the reins of the situation and as a resilient woman, she does not faint.
A beautiful romantic story.
4 stars
SET THE NIGHT ON FIRE by Laura Trentham is book #6 in The Cottonbloom series and can be read as a standalone. I enjoyed revisiting small town Cottonbloom, and reconnecting with the Abbot Brothers, their Aunt Hazel and her twin sister Aunt Hyacinth, Willa, Sutton and Ella Boudreaux.
A river divides Cottonbloom in two: the upscale enclave on the Mississippi side and the rundown, rough and tumble side in Louisiana. They are two worlds apart.
The cover is gorgeous and the story is about an ambitious wealthy beautiful divorcee intent on making a new start in Cottonbloom. By buying a quarter share of Abbot Brothers Garage and Restoration from disgruntled Ford, Ella has upset and antagonized the other owners, Mack and his twin brothers, Wyatt and Jackson Abbot.
I enjoyed reading this romantic story with a twist or two, conflicts and problem solving, compromises and humour and recommend SET THE NIGHT ON FIRE by Laura Trentham.
A digital galley of this book was provided to me by NetGalley and St. Martin's Press. The thoughts expressed here are my own.
Publisher's Description:
From award winning author Laura Trentham comes Set the Night on Fire, a novel about starting over, finding your way back home—and falling head over heels. . .
Ella Boudreaux has a lot to prove to her family, friends, and foes—and to herself. So when her marriage ends she decides to invest her energy and money into a place that brings back some of Ella’s happiest memories: the Abbott brothers’ garage. Maybe, if she puts her mind to it, she can teach skeptical, stubborn Mack Abbott how to make the business a true success. Which would be a lot easier if the hunky mechanic didn’t make her motor run quite so fast…and hot.
Mack was furious when his brother, Ford, sold his share of the business. He’s in no rush to team up with a wealthy divorcée who shows up to the garage in stilettos—and the longest, sexiest legs he’s seen in forever. But Ella’s grit and determination won’t quit…and soon Mack can see that she’s been down a few rough roads herself. Neither Mack nor Ella can deny the fierce attraction that’s revving up between them. Could it be that true love has been in the backseat all along…and they’ve finally found the key?
My Thoughts:
This is only the second book I have read in this series. I read mostly historical and time travel romance but this book and the previous one in the series drew me right in.
I don't feel you need to read the entire series to enjoy this or the previous one but there may be a bit of back story that would help you understand what has occurred.
Our hero thinks his brother has betrayed him by selling a part interest in their family garage to Ella.
Upon meeting her though there is an undeniable attraction that pulls at him.
How will this story of wills end? Will this pair find love in spite of their differences?
I gave this book 4.25 of 5.0 stars for storyline and characterization and a sensual rating of 3 of 5 flames. This small town romance does have it's intimate moments.
I received a complimentary digital ARC of this book to read and review. This in no way affected my opinion of this book which was freely given.
Absolutely loved this book!!
When Ellie Boudreaux bought out Ford’s share of the Abbott’s garage, she did it for the memories of her brother.
Mack Abbott isn’t happy to say the least and isn’t shy to show his displeasure at an outsider owning part of his family business.
When the sparks fly it isn’t all business but quite a bit of the heat is coming off Ellie and Mack. Can they overcome their differences to run the garage together or will one of them lose out?
An unexpected love and kindred spirit, that is what “Set the Night on Fire” is all about, book 6 of the Cottonbloom series. Ella Boudreaux and Mack Abbott might be from the opposite sides of the river, but they have more things in common than meet the eye.
Unfortunately, their relationship started in the negative. Ella bought into the Abbot’s family business and Mack totally disapproved that move, making Ella his least favorite person at the moment. Still, neither can deny the sparks between them.
So, in between teasing from Mack’s family members and shenanigans of Ella’s ex-husband and new wife from the other side of the river, Ella and Mack found themselves in a united front.
Borrowing from the book cover, Ella and Mack are now “starting over, finding their way back home together and falling head over heels. . .”
“Set the Night on Fire” is Rated T for Teens due to some sexual content and discussion of abuse. Parental guidance strongly advised.
I loved reading Set the Night on Fire by Laura Trentham, book six in her Cottonbloom series. In this story we finally get to know and understand Mack Abbott, the second eldest of the Abbott brothers, as he meets his match in Ella Boudreaux. Oldest Abbott brother Ford sold his share of the business to Ella and Mack is furious. Ella has a lot to prove to her family, friends, and foes and even to herself. So when her marriage ends she decides to invest her energy and money into a place that brings back some of Ella’s happiest memories: the Abbott brothers’ garage. Mack believes that only Abbotts should have a share of Abbott’s Garage so he is in no hurry to work with Ella, especially when she shows up to the garage in stilettos. But Ella’s grit and determination won’t quit and Mack can see that she’s been down a few rough roads herself. Ella hopes that she can teach the skeptical, stubborn Mack Abbott how to make the business a true success. Neither Mack nor Ella can deny the fierce attraction that was blooming between them.
I enjoyed the cat and mouse games that Mack and Ella played between improving the garage and their attraction to each other. Ella became more and more self-assured as the story progressed and as she met the people of Cottonbloom and started making friends. Her strength was on display as she helped her ex-husband’s new wife make a new life for herself. Ella was perfect for Mack. Mack learned a lot from Ella in addition to finding ways to make amends with his estranged mother and his brother Ford, opening the door for them to return to Cottonbloom.
Ms. Trentham wrote a wonderful and emotional story that drew me into her book and the lives of her characters, making me forget the world around me. I had trouble putting this book down, turning page after page, not letting go until I turned the last page, still wanting more and really looking forward to the next book in this series. I highly recommend this book to other readers.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Being a new author to me, I hadn’t read the previous books in this series but this can be read without knowing all the back stories. I will find them and read them because this author knows how to write a very compelling story!
The characters are complicated and that makes it all the more interesting. Each one has some past history that interferes with their life on a daily basis. Ella Boudreaux just left one bad relationship and isn’t looking for another. She just wants to prove to herself and to everyone else that she does have a brain and can live without a man if she wants to! Mack Abbott wants nothing to do with her owning a portion of his family’s business and is determined to find a way to buy it back from her.
But neither one can say that they aren’t attracted to the other, just the opposite! So sparks fly, words are spoken, and passion flares out of control! I found this book to be extremely addictive and had only a couple of late nights reading. I finished it before the third night! Enjoy!
I received an ARC from the Publisher for an honest and unbiased review. No compensation was promised or received for this review.
I received an ARC of this book to read from NetGalley in exchange for a fair review. Set The Night On Fire is book 6 in Laura Trentham’s Cottonbloom series. While it can be read as a stand-alone I would suggest at a minimum reading books 4 and 5 first because they are about the twin brothers of the hero in this book and events that happened in them have repercussions that continue in this book. Mack Abbott has a lot to figure out things are changing and he doesn’t like change so he’s not quite sure how to roll with the punches that have come his way since his father died leaving the family garage and car restoration business to him and his brothers. His estranged brother Ford sold his share of the business to Ella Boudreaux who moved to Cottonbloom after her marriage ended and Mack despite feeling an electric attraction to her is damn sure he does not want her as a partner in his business. Ella Boudreaux bought Ford’s share of the business as a way of capturing something she lost when her brother died and she’s tired of being underestimated and painted as a gold digger by people who don’t realize that her ex-husbands financial success was due to her business acumen not his. The very inconvenient desire she feels when ever she is around Mack is sure not helping her equilibrium. This is a feel good romance about love and forgiveness and family, the ones by blood and the ones you make. Fairly steamy. Publishing Date July 31, 2018
#NetGalley. #SetTheNightOnFire
Cottonbloom is a town split between the Louisiana and Mississippi state line. I am always attracted to books set in the south. I jumped on this one when I ran across it.
Ella has moved to Cottonbloom to start over from a terrible divorce. She has purchased part ownership in a garage…yes you heard me right, a garage. Mack and his brothers are the other owners of this garage and Mack is NOT HAPPY with this situation.
I LOVED MACK! He is my favorite type of romance stud. He is the strong, silent type. After a rocky start with Ella, he becomes her knight is shining armor and she helps save him right back. Mack find his estranged mother and his older brother to help heal old wounds. Ella learns to stand up to her horrible ex-husband. With Mack and Ella as a team….they definitely heat up the pages quite nicely.
There is nothing new in this romance. It is the same as most romances. But, sometimes you just need a good one as a palate cleanser. I was in a rut and this book helped pull me out. The fantastic characters are what makes this story wonderful.
This is the sixth book in a series. I have not read any of this series and it did not affect the story at all. As a matter of fact, I have not read any books by this author. I will be adding her to my list! No Doubt!
I received this novel from the publisher via Netgalley for a honest review.
