I really liked Hallie and Susies characters. However the story was out there maybe a little but to much for me. Meeting God and that entire scene for me was too much.

Body Swap intrigued me when I first came across it. However, I could t make it to the end. I did skim the majority of the book hoping it would grip me and get me interested again. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen.

I unfortunately was not able to read and review this book before the digital ecopy expired. The synopsis sounds great though, so I will be buying a copy of my own to read soon!

An interesting plot that was fun to read and follow along as the two main characters "swap" bodies. The characters were entertaining to read about, especially once they found themselves in the other persons body and had to live a life that was foreign to their own in their new body. Such a strange thing to happen, s what exactly caused it to happen?

An interesting novel that was a fun read overall.

I did not finish this book simply because it was not a kindle book and I found it difficult to sit and read from my computer. That being said, I read the first few chapters and from what I read this book is an amazing read. I intend to buy it so that I can finish reading it. I love the plot twists! I highly recommend this book based on what I have read.

Couldn’t read as copy timed out. Sorry, I wasn’t aware that Akido has a time limit or I would have ensured I prioritised this more.

This book felt forced all the way through, like the author is trying too hard to make this book awesome.
That being said, the pace was perfect, the characters were great, but the plot didn't flow with the characters actions, I felt they were battling a little.

Fun with a twist!
Thanks to NetGalley and Dundurn Press for the opportunity to read and review Body Swap by Sylvia McNicoll!
Hallie, a teenager, focuses on her cell phone so much that she walks in front of a car and gets hit. An elderly woman, Susan, was driving the car and she blames the car’s mechanical problems for the accident. Both of them are badly injured and unconscious and while they’re in that state, they involuntarily switch places. This story reminds me of Freaky Friday except the switchers aren’t family members and ageism is prevalent. Hallie is a spunky, self-absorbed teenage girl that’s slightly boy crazy and Susan is an octogenarian that’s feeling smothered by her son and daughter-in-law. They want to take away her independence, her car and her condo and make her move into a retirement home. When Hallie and Susan trade places, they gradually grow to truly care for each other and gain a great deal of compassion. I like how the author brought ageism to light and built empathy towards both young and old. Endearing realistic fiction with a twist, 4 stars!

Body Swap had a unique concept, well unique in the way that I was reading something like this for the first time, though I have seen some movies based on body swap concept. As the title suggests, the concept is that of a body switch, which initially intrigued me. But I was glad that the story had to offer so much more than just a humour pun story.

The story starts when an accident is caused by a faulty Hurricane vehicle being driven by an 82-years old woman, Susan. She bumps into a teenager Hallie who was too busy on her phone while crossing the road. Soon after the accident, they both pass out and find themselves with God. Both of them want to go back to their lives. God agrees to give them another chance. When they wake up, they find that their bodies have been switched and now they have to work together to go back into their respective bodies. From there, the things start to get tricky for them.

This story tries to including so many themes and the most important one in my view is that how no one appreciates the life they have. By using the body switch concept, the author has tried to show the life of an old person and a teen person from the reverse perspectives. We ignore old people simply because they are old. Also, we ignore teens because they are, well, teens and make no sense most of the time. But each life matters and have different life experiences. Sometimes people take their own life for granted and they don’t love and care for their bodies as they should. Some worry about the silliest of the things. The outcome here is to live life to the fullest by valuing yourself and also by taking others into account.

When Susan and Hallie are into each other’s bodies, they get to learn so many things about each other. Susan learns how much difficult it is for a black teenager (Hallie) to live in this world and it is even worse if she is a girl. Susan also learns to tackle the people who are always babying her and instructing her and she learns to live life on her own terms. Hallie, on the other hand, learns to enjoy the smallest joys of life and how not to worry over silliest things like boyfriends. Also, she should not take her body granted as she is going to miss it in her old age.

The narrative was switched between both the persons and sometimes it was difficult for me to focus on who was who in each chapter. Also, I wasn’t able to connect to both the characters as well as I hoped. They were good characters and definitely their growth was quite good, but I wasn’t invested in them.

The switch of both the persons was really interesting to read and more interesting was to see changes that both of them accommodate while being in different bodies. This was a fun and light read which some good moral things to discuss. It shows how important it is to have empathy and how we need to help each other.

This book is an update on a familiar story. Hallie, a young woman and Susan, an elderly lady meet at the gates of Heaven and are given a chance to to go back but they switch bodies. Hallie learns how to handle an elderly body and Susan is learning how to cope with boys and technology. They are also on a mission to solve the mystery of their car accident. I enjoyed reading this book. I liked the characters and the humor. It was a quick read and the ending made sense. Enjoy this quick light read

To date I have read six books by Canadian author Sylvia McNicoll. The theme of this book has been done before, in numerous variations in movies. But this book is one of the best variations on that theme.

In this story fifteen-year-old Hallie is hit by eighty-two-year-old Susan's SUV. They both go to the gates of heaven. But heaven looks and smells like a carnival. And they wake up in line for the ride. The god like figure, the coaster operator gives them the option of a second chance, but to do so they must go back in swapped bodies. Picture Morgan Freeman in Evan Almighty, at least the personality and interaction, his name is Eli. And this begins our adventure.

Hallie is not handling her wrinkled skin and achy joints. And Susan needs to deal with a forehead zit and a crush on a guy who's a player. Hallie faces a life in a long-term care residence and giving up the vehicle. Susan is accused of shoplifting. Susan and Hallie need to find a way to work together. They need to live each others lives, and they need to prove Susan innocent of the crash. Oh, and by the way they are on the clock, they only have a set number of days is all they have. Susan needs to let go of some of her anger and frustration. Hallie needs to learn to appreciate and respect the wealth of knowledge the elderly.

The story is written in alternating chapters. And both our main characters are learning to find their voice. They are learning to find a way to be heard. And they are learning a lot about each other. There are times where this book will really pull at your heart strings.

This is another wonderfully written book by Sylvia McNicoll. I think it will challenge the thinking of tweens, teen, and even retirees. It is very well written and a great new spin on an old type of story. McNicoll executes masterfully in telling this story.

Body Swap is a "Freaky Friday" style story where a young teen and an older woman switch bodies. Fifteen year old Hallie is texting as she walks across a parking lot when an SUV driven by Susan, a woman in her eighties, backs into her, killing them both. A person at a carnival in a place beyond the world gives them the chance to go back to clear Susan's name--the fault of the accident rests with the company who made the SUV and the faulty brakes.

Unfortunately, though a newer twist on a familiar trope, the novel falls flat in the characterization. Hallie is an unflattering caricature of the worst a teenager has to offer, and it's difficult to image many teens sticking this one out unless they view themselves as loftily superior to the "average" teen. The message to teens about the lessons they should learn felt hamfisted and set off an indignantly defiant response even to an adult reader who agrees with many of the points.

The idea was there, but the execution made me quit reading long before the end.

For some reason, this pdf refuses to open on my device so I am unable to read it and provide a review for it. I am experiencing no trouble at all with the other books/ARCs downloaded from NetGalley, so I don't think it's because they are "expired" on the Adobe software. I am very dismayed by this as the synopsis sounded really interesting. If anybody is reading this and can help me, please let me know. I would really like to read this book.

I received a free ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book was an interesting concept. A fun, non-typical body swap story. I really enjoyed reading it. The characters were fun and easy to like. What a cute story!

I was expecting an exact copy of Freaky Friday - but this was way better! Fun, witty, and thought provoking! Highly recommend it! I was in from the first chapter. I will have the wonderful opportunity of interviewing the author on my blog later this fall and will have my review posted public then.
