It's a little insane, but a bit brilliant in it's insanity. Toss your disbelief out the window and enjoy this crazy, unpredictable ride. More than one time I was thinking something like "no... no, that can't..... well, okay, that actually works" when it came to the twists. The main character is incredibly selfish and makes absolutely terrible decisions, but that's what makes her fun to read. She's a hot mess and a half.
Lorna just wants to keep her life together. She counsels her clients, tries to be there for her children and husband. Tries to keep all the balls in the air. They all drop when Andrew walks into her office. She thought she'd be meeting a new client, not the man she's been desperately trying to get out of her head for the past year. He was committed to finding her, and he doesn't want to let go again.
She still has feelings for him that she's unable to deny, and she contacts him on a dating website using a different name and photo. She just wants to see what he'll be like to another woman... is he really still hung up on Lorna, or is he interested in any attractive woman giving him the time of day?
Everything explodes in her face when Andrew is found dead, and she continues to get messages. Who is she talking to her, who knows her secrets? And what will they do with them?
I received a copy of this book from Net Galley and Bookouture, thank you! My review is honest and unbiased.
I didn’t enjoy this as much as her previous books (think I am in the minority), but still a good read.
Holy Cannoli! THAT was a SHOCKER!
Talk about having your life unravel before your eyes! Lorna appeared to have it all- a career, a family, close friends and a secret! Things are going great in her life until Andrew walks into her office and her world gets turned upside down. She has fought hard to forget him and but having him there in front of her is a jolt and her seemingly perfect life begins to look not so perfect.
I love when I think I have a book figured out and then out of nowhere the Author pulls the rug out from under me. I am not going to discuss the other plot that is occurring in this book except to say - well done!!! Again, I thought I had it all figured out! WRONG! There are a lot of twists, turns, surprises, revelations, secrets and lies. From the shocking opening page until the very last page, this book had me captivated and glued to my seat!
Many reviewers are advising fellow readers to go in blind and I completely agree with them. The less you know the better (and the more fun it will be when the revelations come out!). I thought this book had a carefully executed and well thought out plot! This psychological thriller was a real page turner that had me on the edge of my seat! I can't really say more as I want to avoid spoilers, but I will say if you are a fan of psychological thrillers, this one does not disappoint!
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. The thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own,
For the first 50% of the book I wasn’t convinced, then suddenly it veered and slotted into place.
This author never lets you down. So I had complete faith in her.
I found myself completely invested in each character. As always they were well developed and rounded out where they became 3D in my mind.
I made it my aim this year not to give out too much about a book.
Not to write long rambling reviews.
I think it’s much better that the blurb says it all to tempt a reader and a review expresses how it made the reader feel.
I loved the notations at the end of the book where the author says her brother has the same job/career as the main character in this book. And I can see the research that has gone on.
But what if that person in that field of work had complexes of her own?
Lorna did.
Her husband Mark did.
Lorna also trying to be a good Mom to Freya their daughter and to her step son Jack.
There are many mixed up complex people in this read.
Lorna crosses a line.
Getting mixed up with a client. Lovers.
The entire book had me in a spin. I kid you not. The first half I was getting so annoyed at Lorna.
I wanted to shake some sense in her.
The second half I swear I read with my mouth hanging open gasping.
This is definitely a thriller I would be recommending and I thank Bookoutour plus the author (whose paperbacks are on my shell well read by my family) and to Net galley
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy of this book in reply for an honest review.
This book was not my cup of tea. The storyline bored me, the ending was overly dramatic and just didn’t blend in with the story. I found the characters unlikeable, all of them, and thought this book lacked any intensity at all.
This is a very fast paced, on the edge of your seat read. You think you know what the truth is, and then you don’t. The ending really surprised me. Thank you NetGalley for the advanced copy.
Another cracking read from Samantha Hayes and one that kept me guessing throughout. This book just builds and builds. Already recommending to friends any family
Really enjoyable book with some good twists and turns along the way. I genuinely didn’t know how it was going to end. Would absolutely recommend this book.
Tell Me a Secret, omg what can I say other than what an amazing story, it was full of troubled characters and secrets, secrets that you had to know which resulted in me not being able to put my kindle down, another fabulous book by Santha Hayes which is a definitely must read.
Excellent story line which was gripping from start to finish. Great characters. I would highly recommend this book.
Lorna is a therapist, who through her job meets someone and forges a relationship which goes against her professional boundaries, risking her career. She makes the decision to move away and start work somewhere new due to her indiscretion. However, Lorna soon has a new client at her new practice, who we learn is the man she has desperately been trying to forget. What follows is a story of lies and deceit, following the lives of both Lorna and her husband, and Lorna’s client Andrew and his own relationships.
Unfortunately, due to Lorna’s distinct lack of professionalism and her insistence on continuing to do things that put her career in jeopardy, I found her very difficult to relate to. The story itself was very slow to develop, meaning I didn’t particularly enjoy it as the major plot points developed. There were a fair few twists, but all twists which seemed fairly unbelievable. On the whole I found this a pretty boring read, which I’m disappointed to say as I’ve previously enjoyed Samantha Hayes’ books.
This book is a complex twist of tales, crafted well to intrigue and hold the reader. There are hints throughout but the story keeps your mind whirring trying to follow the paths to a conclusion. Lorna and Nikki alternate as narrators which gives real insight into their characters. I wanted to shout at Lorna at one point - a great hint that I was involved. My brain will be reflecting on the various twists at the end for a few days yet! Great read.
What an unexpected little gem of a psychological thriller.I am actually blown away by this one - such a fun, twisty read and I have whiplash from all the twists and turns, all of which I did not see coming from a mile away. Will be looking out for this author in the future
Ohnidays! OHMIDAYS! What a belter of a book. A very disturbing story, which is driven by Ms Hayes exquisite characterisation. Every single player is a well thought out person and their interactions are strikingly believable. The story is what I think is called a 'slow burner', the tale begins slowly, and page by page builds up until you reach the crescendo and then...whoosh! I couldn't read it fast enough! My heart was thumping, I was holding my breath and had sat up straight and on the edge of my seat. If you want a book that gives you instant gore gratification, this isn't for you. But if you're looking for a tale with brilliant writing, that creeps up on you, slowly and silently and just as you're relaxed jumps out and shouts "BOO" in your face, then buy this book today. You can thank me later!
Tell Me A Secret appealed to me when I read the blurb. It sounded like a twisty read and as an ex-therapist I was intrigued by the therapist who breaks the rules.
And Lorna certainly is a therapist that breaks the rules. Repeatedly.
Lorna is a character that I never warmed to. There was something really quite unlike able about her. Not least because of her behaviour that you don’t have to be a therapist to know is totally unacceptable and wrong in many ways. In case you don’t quite get it the book will repeatedly remind you that she is breaking almost every ethical code that there is.
I really liked Lorna’s relationship with her supervisor, the two characters worked well together and he felt believable in his role. I was surprised that Lorna had only worked with him for ten months as their working relationship felt like it was based on many years of respect and experience.
Lorna’s group of friends was some light relief and often made me chuckle, their weekly book group sounded great fun although very little was actually said about the book but I’m sure that’s the case in many book groups!
The book alluded to a lot and as the reader I was often unsure what to believe and although I pretty much worked it out the end still had some surprises that I liked.
Overall this is a twisty read that will keep the reader guessing. And perhaps give them something to think about the relationships that they have.
Thank you to Bookouture for a copy of Tell Me A Secret by Samantha Hayes. I was under no obligation to review the book and all thoughts are my own.
This is the first book I have read by Samantha Hayes. I really enjoyed it. It had everything I expected in a thriller. It had me wanting to read more and was very addictive. I took it everywhere I went just in case I had time to read it. I look forward to reading more of Samantha books.
This was another smash hit from the author. The book was filled with a lot of fun mystery and suspense, keeping the reader page turning to see what happens next. Plus a number of surprises along the way to the end. This is a book that I would recommend to all who enjoy surprises.
I do not feel I can really review this book, as I had a hard time getting into it. Because of that, I will not review this book anywhere other than here, and will not be saying anything negative about it.
I've read all Samantha Hayes books and feel privileged that I could read this through net gallery her books never fail to stop me sleeping I need to know what's going on can't wait for the next one!! x
*Thanks to NetGalley and bookouture for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.* I really thought I would love this book. Domestic thrillers are one of my favourite types of books; I love the twists and turns and relatable characters. I loved Hayes' previous book, 'Until You're Mine.' I did not love this book. I struggled to relate to the protagonist, Lorna, as she made one stupid decision after another. It is hard to relate to a main character who seems so hell-bent on destroying her own life. I did enjoy some of the twists later in the book, but not enough to bump my rating up to 4 stars. I found the book's habit of jumping around in time and perspective a little confusing. Not a terrible book, by any stretch, but I had high hope that were not met.
