I used this as a resource while teaching a class on David. And although I would not place this in the top 10 of resources on David, it was beneficial to help me think differently about the life of David. If you are just getting started in learning about David, this is solid resource to use to get moving forward. Thankful for the author's thoughts and ideas.

This books went far above and beyond my expectations. David the Great is a wonderful read spanning David's lifetime from boyhood shepherding to King of Israel and beyond. Not only does it give a timeline of events but it also gives snippets of wisdom - what we can learn from David's strengths and weakness, his rises and falls. Not only does the author tell of the world David lived in and how it pertained to his actions and responses, but he also compares it to today's world and shows that it's still worthwhile to learn about the past.
Such a meaningful and worthwhile read. I'll definitely be looking into more books by Mark Rutland!
