"An unputdownable psychological thriller with a breathtaking twist" is how this book is described. And it certainly lived up to that description! I was hooked from page one right until the last sentence. I just had to keep reading. This is the first Louise Jensen book I have read but she is now added to my must read list of authors. Highly recommended.

I’m a massive fan of Louise Jensen’s writing and always eagerly anticipate a new novel from her. I have to say that The Date is her best yet, I literally didn’t put it down once from start to finish!

The premise for The Date is utterly terrifying! Ali has been out on a date with a man she met on a dating site and the next morning she wakes up with her head bleeding, very little memory of what happened the previous night and when she looks in the mirror she no longer recognises her own face!

I had heard of face blindness before but rather ignorantly thought it was a condition where people found it difficult to remember faces of people they knew. I had no idea that it could be as serious as in Ali’s situation where she literally doesn’t recognise anyone – not herself, not her loved ones and not even actors in her favourite TV show. It sent chills down my spine to think of it and from this point on I couldn’t help but imagine how Ali must feel, and her fear got under my skin. I can’t remember the last time a novel made me as on edge as this one did!

Ali carries guilt from things that have happened in the past and this impedes her in making good decisions at times. I felt a real connection to her as the past was revealed – there is one part that actually made me cry. I had such empathy for her in that moment and it meant that I was rooting for her all the more as the novel went on.

As the book progresses we get the sense that something really terrible has happened and that Ali could be in danger but, like Ali, I found it difficult to piece it all together. I got swept along in her reasoning and felt like she was probably on the right track at times but then something else would happen and I would doubt myself again. I only partly worked out how it would end but mostly it shocked me, I wasn’t expecting it. The last page of this book gave me goosebumps and I felt glad I wasn’t home alone!

The Date is gripping, unnerving and an unputdownable read! I literally read it in one sitting as I just couldn’t put the book down until I knew how it was going to end!

I could not put this book down and devoured it in a day. The twists and turns have you on the edge of your seat throughout the book, with the main character's medical condition just increasing the tension. There is no way of telling who can or can't be trusted. The medical condition was not one that I had come across before, but reading this book has made me want to find out more about it. This book keeps you guessing right to the end, and just when you think you have it all figured it, the world turns again and you realise that you haven't at all.

I needed a quick break from romance and this was the perfect book. I could not put this thriller down because I was so enthralled with finding out was happened to Ali. I don't actively try to figure out what is going on with books like these, but I'm definitely thinking about it in the back of my head. I NEVER saw the ending coming. This book also shed some light on a very real and frightening condition. All I know is I couldn't get enough of this book and nothing is truly as it seems. Also, the ending? Will there be more??

The Date by Louise Jensen is a psychological thriller. This novel follows Ali, who wakes up battered and bruised after a blind date she doesn’t remember from the prior night. She’s been recently separated from her husband, Matt, and was reluctant to go on the blind date with the man she’s been talking to online, but her friends convinced her to go. But now that she has a head injury and is covered in blood, she must figured out the night before. I have mixed feelings about this book. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either. It took me a while to get into reading this one and only the last quarter of the book was actually interesting to read. The main character, Ali, annoyed me a bit with her decisions, but her condition of having facial blindness did make the story unique and more intriguing to read. I would recommend checking this out if you like reading psychological thrillers. The book releases on Thursday 6/21.

This is the first book that I have read by Louise Jensen and wow did it keep me on the edge of my seat!

Ali, recently separated from her husband, goes on a blind date. She wakes up in a terrible state the following morning, with no memory of the night before and knowing something is drastically wrong. She discovers that she has no recognition of faces - she does not even recognise the faces of close family & friends. The condition is called prosopagnosia. Ali is desperate to know what happened on the night of the date - her best friend is missing and she is receiving threatening messages. As events unfold Ali becomes more and more afraid.

This book is very cleverly written. I was halfway through when I thought that I had it all figured out, only to change my mind and in the end found myself questioning everything that I read. The suspense builds making this a real page turner. Ali's fear is tangible and thanks to all the red herrings it will keep you guessing right up until the last few pages. I read this book over two days - I just couldn't put it down. Superb read - highly recommended.

This is a brilliant book and I had to finish it tonight to find out what really happened on the ‘The Date.’
This book is full of twists and turns and when I thought I’d worked it out, it was turned completely on its head and basically I was wrong!
Ali wakes up feeling bruised and dizzy after a night out and thinks she’s been drugged. She then sees blood on her hands and wonders what on earth happened.
The biggest shock is when she looks in the mirror and doesn’t recognise herself or others....
After her brother takes her to the hospital they find that she’s knocked her head quite severely and it’s damaged part of her brain, and has caused face blindness.
I’ll be honest and say I knew nothing about this until I read this book and find the whole concept pretty scary.
Louise Jensen has brought a relatively unknown condition into a book and built a phenomenal story around it, and I loved the strength of character Ali showed despite clearly feeling like her world has just collapsed around her.
The thriller aspect of this book will take your breath away. I won’t say too much as I don’t want to spoil it, but this book has an brilliant ending.
I love a good psychological thriller and this is the best I’ve read this year.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

I was highly anticipating this novel.
For me this was not a good fit. {It’s a psychological thriller Amy! That’s your jam.} You say? I KNOW! I can’t exactly put my finger on why this was not a shout it from the rooftop...I love you so much novel. I very much enjoyed the premise. I enjoyed the twist. At the end I was left puzzled. I think this will be a great fit for a lot of readers...just not for me. At this time.

3.5
There was so much going on! Maybe a bit too much at least for me🧐

This book’s vibe was unsettling. I was tense throughout waiting for the shoe to drop. The characters all seem to be hiding something suspicious.

Things do sort themselves and some of the reveals aren’t as thrilling as I thought they would be (not a bad thing as they were more realistic). There were red herrings - some more obvious than others.

The neighbors’ (Jules and James) part in this story still has me a bit confused. It seems nefarious, like there were loose ends there...

Overall a good story and I ate it up quickly. This author puts forth consistently entertaining stories.

Thanks to NetGalley, bookouture, and the author for a free arc in exchange for a review. The opinions expressed are my own.

Ali wakes up one morning and something doesn't seem right. Last night, she remembers leaving for a blind date- her first since separating from her husband. But how did she get home? And why is there blood on her head? She knows that something out of the ordinary must have happened. This discovery already has her nerves rattled.when there's a knock on the door. The man at the door sounds familiar, but she doesnt recognize him. Or anyone for that matter. It turns out that a blow to the head resulted in Prosopagnosia- face blindness. Before long, someone begins leaving Ali strange hints and clues as to what really happened that night. Its clear that she's in danger. but with her face blindness he may never be able to find out who from.

I generally tend to lean more towards cozy's rather then thrillers. But i need to branch out more frequently. I really enjoyed this story. i found i needed to keep going to see what happened next. I kept thinking i had it figured out, but then my theories were proven wrong. I had previously heard of Prosopagnosia in another book, but it was not covered in near as much depth. I really appreciated the detail to this. i was able to see how she had to now approach things, and to empathize on her situation.

Thanks Net Galley & Bookouture for a unique read.

With thanks to Netgalley and Bookoutre for this ARC in exchange for an open and honest review.

I have been lucky enough to review all of Louise Jensen's novels and enjoyed each one. I predict The Date will be a massive success in 2018.

Ali Taylor had recently split up with her husband Matt and was now living with her BF Chrissie. Ali still hoped for a reconciliation with Matt but Chrissie urged her to join a dating website ' for a bit of fun'. Ali met Ewan online and after a couple of weeks of talking on the net Ali agreed to meet Ewan at a local nightclub. Ali was worried about meeting a stranger on line so Chrissie agreed to be in the club when she met Ewan.

The next morning Ali woke up in bed, head pounding, scratches on her wrist, and blood on her hands and fingernails. Ali looked at herself in the mirror to find she was staring at a stranger. Ali was diagnosed with prosopagnosia - face blindness which meant she could not recognise herself, brother Ben or her friends. When Ali was discharged from hospital she found a bouquet on her doorstep addressed to Ali the message read enjoy your date b###h? Scared Ali tried to find out what happened on her date, but put herself in danger because she could meet the man again without realising.

I really appreciated the research Louise did on Prosopagnoisa. I had heard of face blindness but I didn't understand the impact it would have on its victims. From not being able to identify friends and loved ones in a crowd to not recognising soap characters on television.

The writing was so tense I was drawn to The Date from the first chapter. I felt Ali's confusion and fear waking up injured with someone else's blood under her fingernails. There were so many red herrings in this book, I was sure I knew what happened, but kept changing my mind as further revelations came out about Ali and her family. This book is worth a big 5 stars from me, I recommend this to all fans of psychological thrillers.

Yes, I know that I said all my June ARCs were read, but the good reviews made me click "request." Let me tell you, I was not disappointed This was a satisfying read about a woman that wakes up to a terrifying set of circumstances. At the 48% mark, I thought I had it all figured out, but the story actually unraveled not quite how I expected.

All in all, The Date made for a very intense story that was impossible to put down.

Oh, my, goodness! This book absolutely lives up to the hype. It genuinely is a page turner that keeps you guessing. I was convinced, convinced I'd sussed it.....but....nope!

Ali is a young woman, recently separated from a husband she still loves, who goes on a blind date and wakes, covered in blood and unable to recognise herself, or, others! It's so well written that I read it in 24 hours and literally went to bed thinking about it and woke up wanting to read it again immediately.

I can highly recommend and it's a solid 5* from me.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher, Bookouture for a free, electronic ARC of this excellent novel received in exchange for this honest review.

This is a brilliantly emotionally charged thriller. Fantastic original plot with lots of red herrings throughout to keep the reader guessing.
Ali, recently separated from her husband is prusaded by her friends to get back out there. She joins a dating app and starts chatting to Ewen, seemingly lovely she agrees to go on a date with him. The next thing Ail remembers is waking up busied and battered and after hitting her head not been able to recognise herself in the mirror. Ali past and present mingle to bring a fast paced thrillers to a blinding ending.
The plot is told through Ail herself and she is a well rounded character. I found some the other characters sketchy and couldn’t get my head around the fact not one of her so called friends or family didn’t go to the police after she thought she been attacked.
Overall a good read.

5* Tick Tock Guessing Stars

The story centers around Ali who is diagnosed with Prosopagnosia, (facial blindness) after a night out with her blind date. When Ali wakes the next morning she has no recollection of what transpired the night before and the only person who was with her that evening on her date, her girlfriend and flat mate is unavailable to help her piece together the events as she is away for the week.

This was a thrilling fast paced read that I could not put down. Just when you think you have come up with the answer the story takes another direction.

There was lots suspense and doubt throughout the story. It was also filled with twists and turns I did not see coming especially at the end! The author keeps you hooked from the beginning of the book until the last page is read.

If you are looking for a great psychological thriller that will have you turning the pages as fast as you can then I highly recommend this gripping and chilling read.

A full 5* from me.

My thanks to Bookoutour via Net Galley for my copy.

This was an “on the edge of your seat bite your fingernails” read.

There is nothing like a creepy book when you visualise yourself walking along or actually being the main character who has to forever look over her shoulder. Is she being watched or is she going mad?

After a separation from her husband she was urged to go on a date. Get out there, move on.
Against her better judgement she agrees.

The book is centred around ‘that date’ the date where she sustained injuries and one that would forever stay with her. Face Blindness.

I had never heard of this before (it does have a medical name) and I couldn’t help but realise that Louise Jensen has enraptured me in awe of her ability to take something in reality and make it a novel based story that is mixed with a fact.

The only book I’ve yet to read is Sister.
The other two books I’ve read by the author just blew me away. It’s only time that has got in the way, but, I shall certainly be making room for Sister.

An author that flew on my favourite shelf overnight.

It’s creepy, it’s chilling, it makes you anxious.

You know someone is doing and has already done all of this but who? Just who?

I didn’t guess for one minute. The cast in this book is so well thought out, they are so rounded, everyone is mixed in and intertwined with each other. I couldn’t untangle them.

This has had to go into my top reads 2018.

Fab, just pure and utter wonderment at this authors talent.

MOMOBOOKDIARY highly recommends this exciting new release from the awesome Louise Jensen.

Louise Jensen always writes with such passion it is clear to see the research that has been carried out to ensure the story is told perfectly. I had not heard of the condition that this book focuses on – prosopagnosia – which is known as Face Blindness. The lead character is unable to recognise anyone after a bump on the head. I couldn't begin to imagine how frightening it would be to not recognise anyone around me – or even myself. It is certainly a very intriguing story told from the perspective of the lead character and the person wishing her harm which makes it a tense, gripping read which keeps you guessing until the last page. I read it in two sittings (and lots of tea!).

The Date is a heart pumping read! I loved it have been recommending it to all my friends!

My thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review this book prior to official release date. All opinions are my own.

However the next morning she wakes up with no memory of the date night and she is covered in blood. Worse still when she looks in the mirror she doesn't recognise her own reflection .
