Ali wakes up the morning after her first date after separating from her husband, with a head injury, no memory of what happened, and a new, likely permanent, face blindness. She doesn't recognize anyone, even her own face in the mirror. She doesn't remember her date or what he may have had to do with her injuries, but she wouldn't recognize him anyway and he could be anyone. While I normally avoid any book described as "unputdownable" on principal, this one was a page-turner and I actually stayed up late to finish it. I was convinced I knew what was going to happen for most of the book but then realized I had it all wrong and I did guess the "who" in the end but not the "why." I enjoyed this and would give it 4 stars. I will definitely check out some more of this author's books.

After reading the first few pages I was a bit worried that this was going to be one of those books, were the main character magnified every little thing for drama but thankfully that wasnt the case. When things happened, the fear and paranoia felt real and justified. The reveals are well spaced and interesting. I could have done with less talks about the characters childhood and mother.Other than that, it was a well paced entangled thriller that I am delighted to say, I did not guess the ending of.

Wow! What a thrilling story with so many twists and turns! Brilliantly written and fiendishly addictive, a story I just could not put down. This author is one of my favourites and this book is my absolute favourite of hers. From the heart pounding beginning to the stunning end, this book was wonderfully unpredictable and all the more enjoyable because of it! Just when I thought I had guessed where the story was headed, another twist was delivered with perfect pitch and panache. Love, love, love this author and the incredible stories she writes that always take me on a thrilling, absolutely enjoyable journey.

The fact is that Louise Jensen is one of my favorite thriller authors and of course I had very high expectations about her newest title The Date. I had no doubt this was going to be another excellent read, but what I didn't expect was to get my socks knocked off and find a new absolute favorite. Holy cow, what a read! I literally dropped everything I was supposed to be doing after reading the first few pages and couldn't put it down until I reached the very end. Not only is the writing sublime, but the suspense is spot on and I'm always a sucker for the amnesia element. Especially in this case, where the main character is unable to recognize faces (prosopagnosia) after trauma, which is something I had never came across before and is truly fascinating. This element plays a key role in the development of the plot and plot twists and without doubt adds a lot of suspense and intrigue to the story. But The Date doesn't bet on one horse and an intricate web of twists, little hints and unlikeable discoveries is cast over the plot in a way that will have you fully absorbed. You can guess all you want about the ending and maybe even get one or two little facts right, but you will never be able to guess the full truth early on. The Date is one of the best psychological thrillers I've read this year and without doubt a new all time favorite!

Bring out the superlatives and invite them to this review party, because I'll need a lot of them to describe my feelings about The Date. I read a lot of thrillers, but this story was simply something else. The Date ticked all the right boxes for me and more, and I literally dropped everything to read this psychological thriller. Fascinating, highly addictive and utterly absorbing! If you are a fan of the genre, you simply MUST try this one. Trust me, you won't regret it.

Talk about a date from Hell!
I will certainly never view a blind date the same way again. Ever!! Not after meeting Alison Taylor, the protagonist in this most intriguing and tension filled novel. The morning after her fateful date, she is trying to figure out what happened to her, and she realizes that it is not good.

I was questioning everything, wondering who the creepy date was and totally obsessed with finding out what happened! I'd finish one chapter, and get hit with another Tick Tock ending and would be hooked into reading another chapter, and another. I was seriously looking over my shoulder at times (or in the mirror).

This book seriously deprived me of sleep! I can't even believe someone came up with this story line- Louise Jensen is Brilliant!! Tick Tock! What are you waiting for? Read it!

Thanks to Bookouture for my ARC.

This is a must read for psychological thriller fans!
Ali is recently separated from her husband. Her girlfriends have convinced her to join an online dating app. After successfully finding a match she goes on her first date. Ali wakes up after her date not remembering a thing, she is bloody bruised and unable to recognize herself in the mirror. What happened to her on that date? She is desperate to find out and trying to remember what her date looked like that night. How can she put the pieces of that night together with no memory and on top of that she can no longer recognize anyone?

The struggles and terror Ali experiences makes her character interesting and unique. Jensen writes Ali in a way that really gives you perspective into what living with facial blindness is like. Ali goes on quiet an interesting journey juggling between her past memories to her present in an attempt to put the pieces of her date night together. In the midst of all of what’s happening one of Ali’s friend goes missing. Is Ali responsible? Someone has been terrorizing her since she’s been home from the hospital. Someone who knows a secret & is out for revenge.

This book has many interesting and dynamic characters that are relatable. Jensen’s writing will keep you guessing with many brilliant twists and turns this book is impossible to put down. It starts out with a gripping opening & will hold your attention all the way to the last page

If you’re a fan of Louise Jensen you’re going to love this one in addition to her other 3 books:
1) The Sister 2) The Gift 3) The Surrogate

Another cracker from Louise Jensen! This is an excellent book. Poor Ali, she wakes up after a date bruised and bloody with no memory of what happened the night before. Terrifyingly she has developed a condition called Prosopagnosia - facial blindness. The man she met for the date has deleted his online profile and Ali has no way of contacting him. Ali soon realises she is being stalked and someone close to her is hellbent on seeking revenge.
This book gave me the fear! It is terrifying at times, Ali has no idea why she is being tormented and doesn't know who to trust. There are so many twists and misdirection it had me reeling! When Ali's tragic backstory is unravelled, it is just heartbreaking and so sad. Very cleverly written, it stirred all sorts of emotions. Louise Jensen is one of my favourite authors at the moment, all her books are just wonderful. Thank you to Bookouture and Netgalley for the chance to read this one as an arc.

The Date by Louise Jensen is one of those books that is just all kinds of weird but a good kind of weird that only a psychological thriller can give you. From the very first few pages I knew I was going to be in for one heck of a ride.

The story starts as Ali is waking up from a night that she cannot remember to save her life. Ali knows that she had been planning on going out with her friend/roommate to head to a club and meet a blind date from then out it’s a blank. No idea of what happened or how she came to be home at all.

Now waking up with no memory is enough to gain a slight interest sure but as Ali is coming to terms with no knowing she heads to a mirror and sees a face looking back that she doesn’t recognize at all….. WHAT? How can she not know her own reflection? I’ve heard of black market organ stealing but is Ali the victim of being drugged and someone performing plastic surgery? Attention skyrocketing….

But the next thing in the story is someone coming to the door and Ali afraid to answer. It’s most definitely a man but Ali realizes her purse and keys are missing so is this whoever drugged and left her here??? No, in walks Ali’s own brother who she can’t recognize at all either! Mind starts going 100 MPH.

So as you can tell this one is already falling into the WTH did I just read category on the opening pages. To explain all of this comes a really big medical term I had not ever heard of and a condition I honestly thought the author was making up….not possible, right? Calling Uncle Google I need answers now!

“Prosopagnosia is a neurological disorder characterized by the inability to recognize faces. Prosopagnosia is also known as face blindness or facial agnosia. … Prosopagnosia is not related to memory dysfunction, memory loss, impaired vision, or learning disabilities.”

Alrighty, so it is real. And Louise Jensen has taken this very interesting medical condition and written a book around it which had me turning the pages frantically to find out what the heck would happen. As the story unfolded I really could not put it down and kept rearranging my theories (when I could even think of something) all the way to the end. So yes, I enjoyed the book and I also learned something!

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

I really enjoyed this book. It is fast paced and easy to read. There were so many twists and turns it easily kept me on the edge of my seat. Despite working out who was out to get Ali early on, the other twists I didn’t see coming and one I actually gasped aloud at! Not only is this novel gripping, it also dealt with some really hard-hitting subjects and I found myself feeling all sorts of emotions.

I have looked every one of Louise’s books so far and this one is no exception. Really well written with a well crafted edge that keeps the reader hooked. Keep them coming!

This book would lend itself very nicely to a screen adaptation!
It has a lot of those ' Oh my god, what is it?' moments as well as those that invoke fear.. noises in the night, shadows, things happening without rhyme or reason and a general creepy feeling.
Alison Taylor wakes up after a date she was reluctant to go on, feeling battered, a lump on her head, blood on her hands, injuries on her wrists, and with no memory of what happened the previous night.
Looking into the mirror, she cannot recognise herself. She is devastated when she is told that her injury has rendered her with face blindness.. she cannot remember even familiar faces, so how is she to recall who the man was who she met on the date and who appears bent on destroying her?

With no one trustworthy to turn to, and someone determined to terrorise her with hints of what happened and what will happen, she has to overcome the paranoia and suspicions surrounding her and identify him.

A fast paced read, quite a thriller.

Alison Taylor had been separated from her husband Matt for only a short while, and when her friend Chrissie pressured her into a blind date, she was reluctant. She still loved Matt and couldn’t bear the thought of another man. But when Ali woke the following morning, she had a violent headache; she ached all over and was covered in blood. And she had no memory of what had happened the night before.

But worse was to come when Ali glanced in the mirror in the bathroom – she had no idea who the person was looking back at her. What was going on? Ali was terrified – and when the messages, taunts and graffiti began to appear, Ali didn’t know what to do. She couldn’t go to the police – she had no memory, so they wouldn’t believe her. And then there was the past…

The Date is my second by author Louise Jensen and she does a psychological thriller very well! Gripping, fast paced suspense, littered with fear and guilt, and all buried in a myriad of secrets – what more could you want! Highly recommended.

With thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for my digital ARC to read and review.

Ali wakes up one morning with a throbbing in her head. What happened last night? Why can't she remember anything? Groggy and confused, she goes into the bathroom and looks at herself in the mirror, only to discover she is shocked by what she sees staring back at her - a reflection of herself that she clearly knows must be herself only there is one problem... the face she is seeing in the mirror is not her own!

This book takes you on a heck of a ride as you slowly uncover the events of the night before. I found myself reading this book and not wanting to put it down. It sucks you in from the beginning and holds your attention until the very end and that's the type of book that I love.

There are several twists and turns in the book, that will keep you reading all night long. Shocking events happen throughout and revelations that will have you gasping as you read. There are even shocking twists near the end. Just when you think you have it figured out. Guess what... You just may be wrong. :)

This was my first book I have read by Louise Jensen and it definitely won't be my last. I loved her style of writing and the way you hooked in from the very beginning. Very well written I just loved this book.

What happened on the night before? Why can't Ali remember anything? And why did she wake up with blood on her hands? You'll have to read this amazing thriller of a book to find out! :)

If you are a fan of psychological thriller books then this book is a must add to your to-be-read collection.

Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher Bookouture for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Recently separated, Alison Taylor, at the insistence of her friends, reluctantly goes out on a date. Something dreadful has happened, and, at the bare minimum, she has developed a serious injury and has bleeding on the brain, in an area that controls the ability to recognize face, with the diagnosis prosopagnosia. "You actually can't recognise yourself? You honestly wouldn't know me if I came back in five minutes?" Has she fallen or has something more nefarious happened to her?

I was drawn in immediately to The Date. "I must be asleep. Can't tear my eyes away from the image in the mirror watching tears pour down cheeks that are not mine. The Ben I do not recognise speaks again...Blackness hurtles towards me and I welcome it with open arms....the man who sounded like my brother, who acted like my brother, and yet somehow, with the exception of his glasses, didn't look like him at all."

More than no longer having a memory of faces, Alison cannot remember what happened the night she went on the date. Upon her arrival home from the hospital, where she went the morning after the incident, she finds a bouquet of roses with a note attached that says, "Enjoy the date, bitch?" Her nightmare has just begun. She is being stalked in a terrifying game of cat and mouse.

I have been seeing the phrase unputdownable in book descriptions for some time now, and thought I'd never use it myself. Well, it certainly applies here. Wow! What incredible twists and turns! Then there is the shocking conclusion! I would never have guessed who it was that was stalking Alison. Yes, from an incredible beginning, with such an interesting concept, this book is indeed fabulous. Louise Jensen is now an automatic autobuy for me and I have put her backlist in my TBR pile.

Many thanks for Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC to review in exchange for my honest opinion.

If you like your books full of fear and mystery, this is the one for you.
While you read this, try to put yourself in the lead characters shoes, it brings a whole new level to life! And I think that alone is what makes this book so good.
I could not put this book down, from start to finish and I will absolutely be recommending it to everyone I know

Alison Taylor has seen the bad side of love, and is slowly finding her way back out of it, and is finally ready for a round two with it...or at least start with a date. She is nervous to embrace this new path in her life, but the only way to fully move on from her broken marriage, is to put herself out there and meet someone new. Her Saturday night starts off just as she hoped, but by the next morning everything in her new world is completely upended and she realizes something is really wrong... she's hurt, lost all memory of the night before, and things just continue to take a turn for the worse!

The Date is suspenseful page-turner that kept me burning through the pages until the wee hours of the morning, I just could not put it down!! This first time read came riddled with action, thrilling suspense, and twists and turns that I never saw coming, just when I thought I had a grip on the story line I would find myself being hit with another unexpected surprise, and left second guessing myself all over again. I have to give this one my highest praise of five AMAZING stars; it thrilled me, gave my mind a good work-out, and left me thoroughly satisfied!! Highly recommend!!!

I requested an advanced copy of this title from NetGalley, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.

The Date was a rollercoaster of a book - a whodunit with enough shady characters that kept me guessing the entire book! Just when I thought I had it figured out, Jensen twisted the plot a bit more. Look forward to reading more of Jensen's books!
