Every time I start another Louise Jensen novel I’m immediately thrown into the storyline and can’t put it down until I’ve finished! The Date was exactly the same! With another unique storyline, it was intriguing to learn about face blindness. Written and executed superbly!
With a plot full of twists, a storyline that intensified as it continued and an ending with such a twist I gasped out loud! This will surely become your favourite Jensen novel as it did mine!
Fabulous novel as always!
The Date is a tense psychological thriller full of suspense, twists and turns. An entertaining read. My thanks to Netgalley for my copy.
I really loved this book. It was gripping although some of the 'twists' were sadly predictable but this didn't deter me from wanting to race to the next chapter and the next...
Thanks to Bookouture for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
I read this last year and did not write a review, at the time of reading i rated it 3/5 and i enjoyed this, it was something slightly different on the usual thriller and that i did enjoy.
Highly suspenseful mystery novel that will keep you guessing until the very end! After separating from her husband, Ali arranges to meet a date with a new man, at the persuasion of her friends. Though when she wakes in the morning she immediately knows that something is not right, though she has no memory of the night before.
With her friends help she will try to piece together what happened to her and if it was an accident or something more.
A highly suspenseful novel with twists you don't see coming. After going on a date on Saturday night, Allison wakes up Sunday not remember the night before and, when looking in the mirror, not recognizing herself. Thus begins a thriller that will have you turning the pages. It is best to go into this novel knowing as little as possible as to not spoil any of the suspense.
This book seemed just like every other psychological thriller out there today. Average at best. I didn’t enjoy the plot or the story telling.
A great book with a brilliant storyline that keeps you hooked. The characters were good and the author added plenty of twists and intrigue so you couldn't put it down. A great book to read.
A solid fast-paced thriller that definitely had me guessing (fyi I was wrong till the very end).
Our lead, Ali, has a mysterious date with some confusing and jaw dropping consequences. You think you know who and why, but as the chapters go on you change your mind and finally you realize you had it all wrong and how did the author even come up with this idea?
Ali's condition is not one I've heard of, but it definitely opened the door to a number of possible conclusions and plot twists.
At the persistence of her friends, Ali signs up for an online dating site, and immediately hits it off with Ewan. Yet the next morning she wakes up with injuries and no memory of what happened the night before but the most frightening thing is she doesn’t recognize her own face in the mirror, and when her brother comes by, she doesn’t know him either.
After several tests in the hospital, doctors diagnose her with Prosopagnosia, or face blindness. She can’t recognize her own face, her family, and definitely not the faces of strangers. She’s convinced her date, Ewan, hurt her, and sets out to find him once she receives threatening messages and ominous gifts on her doorstep. But how will she ever find him if she can’t remember what he looked like, nor discern who anyone is now that she’s suffered this injury?
While reading I felt this nagging in my brain that the villain was this particular person, and I definitely had them pegged, but had no idea why they were doing what they were doing until the end-and it was a crazy reveal!
Louise Jensen’s books always keep me glued to the page and on the edge of my seat! It’s almost like I can’t read them fast enough; I’ve just GOT to know what happens next! Pick this one up if you’re in the mood for a fast paced thriller!
Having previously read The Surrogate I couldn’t wait to read The Date! Alison Taylor has separated from her husband recently and at the coaxing of her friends she agrees to meet a man she met on a dating app in a local pub. She then wakes up the following morning feeling sore and has a bump on her head and her world turns upside down when she looks in the mirror and doesn’t recognise her own face and has no memory of the night before!!! Her brother turns up and bring her to the hospital where she is diagnosed with face blindness. Then she starts receiving nasty texts and packages and notes etc.... Who is terrorizing her? I was left guessing the whole way through this amazing book and what an ending where did that come from? Louise Jensen you did it again !!!!
Thank you to Bookouture, Louise Jensen and NetGalley my review is honest and unbiased.
The Date is the first novel I've read by Louise Jensen and I thought it was a great psychological thriller.
Alison wakes up after a first date with someone feeling sore with a huge bump on her head. She knows instantly that something is wrong, but cannot remember much about the night before. Trying to discover what has happened to her Alison uncovers some huge secrets and some unbelievable truths - not just about her but about her family too. The only infuriating thing for me was that I couldn't understand why people weren't helping this poor woman!
About half way through I thought I'd cracked it. I was convinced that I knew what had happened and who was involved, but I was wrong. The Date was a fantastic page turner - whilst there were parts of it that seemed to be fleshed out to prolong the book - it didn't change the pace for me. I needed to know what had happened! The ending (whilst maybe a little unrealistic) was not something that I was expecting. It took me by surprise.
Overall, I thought The Date was a strong, compelling psychological thriller with pace, plot twists and perfectly flawed characters. I'm glad I've discovered Louise Jensen, I will be looking to read more of her work.
Oh boy, talk about a tense read! From the very first chapter, I was perched precariously on the edge of my seat, waiting for that absolutely tense climax that would see me slip off the chair and onto the floor! This is a great psychological thriller based on a medical condition that I had never heard about before - prosopagnosia, also known as face blindness. This is a neurological disorder in which the suffer is suddenly unable to recognize faces, thus making all family and friends basically strangers. The main character in this story, Ali, goes out one night on a blind date. The next thing she knows, she wakes up in her bed, with blood all over her, a massive bump on her head, and the inability to recognize anyone, not even her own face in the mirror. She has no memory of what happened the night before, why she's in such a state and why she's covered in blood. To make matters worse, she is diagnosed with sudden onset prosopagnosia, meaning that she can't even recognize her date from the night before, even when she's convinced he's the cause of her anguish. This is a great read with curve-ball upon curve-ball. I loved it!
and intense twisty and twisted thriller that will keep you up past your bedtime!
Full disclosure I read this book quite a while ago, I am currently trying to get caught up on reviews.... but when I took a look at this title it brought back all the frantic feelings that this book evoked.... I really think it says something that this book has really stayed with me for too many months and many many books! A unique thriller with staying power, that is for sure!
Imagine looking in the mirror and not recognizing the face looking back at you... this is what Allison is going through, turns out she has a condition causing her to have face blindness.... One minute she is getting ready for a hot date, and the next minute she cannot even recognize her own face.... The tension is ramped up even more when she begins to receive messages referring to that dreaded date... what happened that night? Who is sending her these messages? What has she done to deserve this?
The pace of this story was frenzied, I was on heightened alert throughout... I really felt Allison’s fear, confusion, and helplessness throughout this entire book.... i’d imagine not being able to recognize people or read social cues would be highly stressful, especially before you learned to use your other senses.... and then to have somebody pretty much stalking you on top of that, must be terribly unsettling.... this is a book that will keep you off balance throughout the Book ,second-guessing everything and everyone, never knowing what is coming next... twists and turns everywhere with an innocent unreliable narrator.... and that ending! What? Well played Louise Jensen!
This is a must read thriller! A unique premise, crazy twists and turns, and a pace like no other! Absolutely recommend!
*** Big thanks to Bookouture for my copy of this book ***
A good thriller will keep ypu on your toes all the time, but it also need a careful build up and good characters so you can actually be inside the book. I have to say, this book managed to do all of this very expertly. It was action-filled, fast-paced and built up the tension just perfectly. An absolutely must-read.
I do like a Louise Jensen book, they are easy to read and they always make me think. The Date is no different.
Ali is a normal person, struggling through the ups and downs of life, healing from a relationship and moving forward. But things take a terrible turn for the worst and Ali finds herself incredibly vulnerable and dependent on others, friends gather around and try to help but Ali finds herself more and more isolated. But is her life at risk?
There are twists and turns as Ali struggles to adjust to her new life, but who can she trust and will she work that out before it is too late?
Thank you to Bookouture for a copy of The Date by Louise Jensen. I was under no obligation to review the book and all thoughts are my own.
We all know Louise Jensen can write thrillers and write them seriously well but with this one she hit on one doozy of an idea. The lost memory/about last night psychological thriller has been done to death but the author has added one vital ingredient. When Allison wakes up not only can she not remember how she ended up with a bang on her head and blood on her hands but also she has lost the ability to recognise faces. Face blindness or Prosopagnosia if you want to sound clever is something I first learned about last year and I honestly thought it could be used in a thriller or mystery. It's a terrifying prospect, almost Hitchcockian in the paranoia it must cause in some. Well Louise Jenson has taken the notion and used it to great effect. My only bug bear is that I sort of guessed how it was going to end quite early on, for me it was a bit obvious who was behind it. But then I read a LOT of psychological thrillers so it's difficult to pull the wool over my eyes. But the journey to the reveal, with many twists that I didn't guess made this a fantastic read that actually in the end has an ending that although you might guess the culprit you may not guess the motive or conclusion.
I can honestly say I was gripped from the first page...I could not put this down.
The Date was absolutely brilliant I was on tenterhooks the whole way through thinking I knew who the assailants were and evrytime I was wrong ..you will not expect the last few chapters I was gobsmacked and that it how the genre should be.
I hate spoilers in my reviews because every reader should have to find out for themselves so I’m not giving any away
Expect the unexpected
I was given an ecopy of this book in exchange for an honest review by Bookouture, Louise Jenson publishers. This is something I am more than happy to do.
Where do I start with The Date, it was a tense, gripping read right from the very first page. I read this whilst sitting by the pool in Sicily and what a good job, the sweat was literally pouring off my forehead with fear as opposed to sweat from the heat - nobody could tell I was a gibbering wreck reading this.
I loved every single word of The Date it was incredible. Louise Jenson has stepped up to the plate and knocked the ball right out of the park with this one. It was like reading a living nightmare - I had heart palpitations and read quicker and quicker to get to the bottom of the story, wanting to save Ali from the living torture she was enduring.
Imagine waking up with the worst hangover imaginable, not knowing where you are, how you got there or physically able to drag yourself out of bed. When you do you don't recognise the face looking back at you or have any recollection of how you have got to that situation - a totally incredible, unimaginable, gut wrenching situation.
Ali is separated from her husband Matt and is persuaded by her flatmate and friends Chrissy, Jules and James to go on a blind date. She is reluctant - she still wants to be married and is in denial about how she has arrived in this situation - she had a loving, close relationship with husband Matt until his character changed almost overnight - within months he had distanced himself from her and she leaves the marital home to give them both some breathing space.
With each and every book I've read of Louise Jenson the intensity has ramped up another notch, she is one of my firm go to authors that I would read without even reading the blurb - she never fails to disappoint, that is until the last page is turned and I know I have a long wait until I can get my next fix. I can't recommend this book highly enough, huge thanks to both Bookouture for the opportunity to get an early read and to Louise for her writing.
Alison is a recently-separated young woman who goes out on a date one Saturday evening with a blind date. The next morning Ali wakes to no recollection of the previous nights date, a huge head bump and when she looks in the mirror she doesn't recognise the face staring back at her! Following a trip to hospital with her brother, who she also doesn't recognise, Ali is diagnosed with Prosopagnosia or 'Face Blindness' meaning she cannot recognise her own face or the face of anyone else in her life. Things get steadily worse when Ali starts to receive sinister messages and it appears that someone means her harm - but who? And why?
I really enjoyed the fast pace and twists in this story if a little far-fetched at times. Nonetheless it is a good thriller with plenty to hold the attention and in my case an extremely quick read.
Thanks to Netgalley and publishers for the advance review copy.
