This was a fantastic book! I couldn’t put it down. So many twists....I loved how the author alternated between past time and present to tell the story.

The Ex-Wife by Jess Ryder
Publisher: Bookouture

Thanks to NetGalley and publisher Bookouture for the ebook ARC of The Ex-Wife by Jess Ryder in exchange for an honest review.

You’ve got everything she wants…

Newly married Natsha has the perfect house, loving husband, Nick and a beautiful little girl together, Emily. She would have it all if it wasn’t for Jen, her husband’s ex-wife who just won’t leave them alone…

Then Natasha returns home one day to find her husband and Emily gone without a trace. Desperate to get Emily back, Natasha will do anything even if it means accepting an offer of help from Jen. But can she trust her? And do either of them really know the man they married?

I give this book a rating of 5 stars and highly recommend reading it. I found the story very intriguing and it kept me wanting to read. It was hard to put the book down. Very chilling and an unexpended ending that you won’t want to miss. Jess Ryder has become one of my favourite authors and I am looking forward to reading her next book!

Natasha has a seemingly perfect life, a handsome husband, a beautiful little girl and a luxurious lifestyle. Unfortunately, the other thing they have is the constant presence of Jen, her husband Nicks ex-wife. Soon she realises Jen isn't her only problem. Nick is and she wants to get away but he beats her to the punch and leaves. But he takes their daughter with him. Frantic to find them Natasha finds the only one that can help her is Jen, but can she be trusted?

Jess Ryder is definitely a name to watch. This is her third psychological thriller and the third I've read, and all I can say is bring on number four! Her novels are tense, twisty and tantalisingly addictive reads. I defy you not to devour her books in one read.

More and more recently i have been going into books blind with no real clue what they are about, what the synopsis says or why i even picked them in the first place and this was one of those. I couldnt really remember i just picked a book about 4 pages back on my kindle.

Natasha has what seems like the perfect life, a big perfect house, a loving husband, a beautiful litle girl and no real need to work. She is a real lady of lesuire. Theres only one small niggle in the whole scenerio and thats Jen. The Ex-Wife who is always there, shes at every family occasion, and very much acting the role of wife not ex. Natasha has really had enough, but is trying to be the better person, however hard it seems.

However, not all is as seems and when one day Natasha goes to get Emily from nursery to find she never actually arrived and her husband and Emily have vanished. What on earth can she actually do?! So when Jen actually offers to help, can she be trusted?!

The Ex-Wife is a gripping tale of revange at its finest. Told through various characters and different time frames (then/now ect ect) to flesh out the story and let us know what happened, what led to the situations we are greeted with.

Natasha is a fierce and strong woman who is with the love her life, her little girl and living a life she never planned for, but she can adapt to it. She never dreamt of all the money, desginer things - she came from a simple life, and thats all she wants. When hers is falling apart she will do anything to fix it and get what she wants.

Jen has always been part of the Warrington family, for most of her life, it was always a given she would marry into the family so when after years together Nick gets a young girl pregnant and Jen just leves quietly its all very odd. Especially as Jen is still always around. Does she still want Nick? Why didnt she fight? Why does she now want to help Natasha?

The Ex-Wife kept me up all hours trying to establish what happened, what had gone on and who on earth where all these characters? this was a great read with unexpected turns and twists to keep the reader on their toes until the very end. I loved the way the story was pieced together

This book had been on to-read list for a long time and I can only kick myself now for not getting to it sooner. What a rollercoaster of a read! Two very strong women who find themselves on opposing sides only because of one man’s egotism - If Jen and Natasha had met earlier, they may have been very good friends. Natasha is the naïve twenty-something who broke up a twenty-year-old marriage when she fell in love with Nick Warrington, who was almost old enough to be her father. Jen is Nick’s ex-wife, the high-school sweetheart who is best friends with Nick’s sister and is still invited to every family event at the Warringtons. Natasha hates Jen’s guts, but when her daughter and Nick go missing, it is Jen she turns to for help.
Loved the book from start to finish! A big thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.

If you loved The Girl on the Train, Gone Girl or The Couple Next Door then this dark, twisting psychological thriller from Amazon chart bestseller Jess Ryder is guaranteed to have you gripped

My thoughts

5 stars

Natasha : she'll do any thing to protect her little girl

Nick: the husband - a douchebag - he loves to play Natasha and Jen against each other

Jen: the ex wife

it really is a dark, twisting psychological thriller, because when the story starts you have no idea who is telling the story, you find out that its told in different perspectives and caught in this drama is sweet little Emily. You see how the 2 wives the new one and the ex one is played against one other , how Nick is not a person you want to know , and how Natasha will do anything for her little girl, it does remind me a little of The Wife Between Us but I still loved it , if you liked that one you might want to check this one out, its a thriller you can not miss out on, because you have to read it it find out the what happenings to all the characters , who will win little Emily. With that said I want to say thanks to Netgalley for letting me read it and review it in change for my honest opinion.

I am giving this book four stars instead of five as I think it could have been so much better. The first half of the book is really good and then the story fizzles out once we learn the identity of Anna and what she did that was so dreadful in her past life. I do think it's worthwhile reading though.

I wanted to love this novel, after reading the description and reviews I couldn’t wait to start reading.

Sadly for me it was a slow burner that couldn’t hold my attention for long enough. However I am sure others will love it.

Natasha is second wife to Nick and mother to toddler Emily, living the high life, lacking for nothing. Unfortunately first wife Jen won’t back off but you can’t expect everything to be perfect! So far so good but then the plot unravels a bit. Who can be trusted and be relied on is what Natasha has to find out. A slow burner, told from several points of view, it was engaging and entertaining and definitely had its moments of suspense. I liked it and it was a great idea - would definitely read other books by this author.

This was a thriller with lots of twists and turns and I enjoyed reading it although it was hard to suspend disbelief at times. Perhaps there were too many twists to create more outer conflict and this distracted from the inner conflict of the characters and the credibility of the story.

This book is told from several points of views, but it was fairly easy to track the plot and all of the twists and turns throughout the book. Natasha is a mistress who ends breaking up a long standing childless marriage between Nick and Jen when Natasha becomes pregnant. Although, Nick marries Natasha, Jen does not fade into the background (think Prince Charles, Princess Dianna & Camilla). This is the part that enraged me, because Natasha is such a doormat for Nick and his family. To make matters worse, Nick is a controlling jerk who controls both his wife and ex-wife like puppets and trust me when I say you will loathe him! Once Nick tires of Jen, hold on for a crazy ride.

Thank you to NetGalley for the chance to read this advance copy.

3 POV, 2 timeliness, and a merging of the two at the right time makes this fast paced book a thrilling read.

The story would seem convoluted a seemingly happy couple, an extramarital affair, unexpected pregnancy, divorce, remarriage, going back to ex, kidnapping the child, planning a new family, the ex wife and the current then making a plan, betrayal, near murder, then a new plan, an accident, coma, and a new life with child.

Wow, doesn't this make you want to read this book. Writing this review made me realize the various plots and subplots being played all at the same time making this one twisty read.

My first book by author Jess Ryder, I finished it in 2 sittings (I had to sleep at night). The book had everything going for it, written from the women's point of view. It was nice to get an insight of how each thought.

I would say I hated the husband (obviously he was a cheater and a major plotter), disliked the present wife (she came across as a dumb bimbo), and liked the ex-wife (she was pleasantly gray).

The variation of colors on the character, the fast pace, and the burning curiosity to get to the truth made this one heck of a story. Enjoyed it thoroughly.

Natasha is newly married. She seems to have everything she could want; the perfect house, a loving husband and a beautiful daughter. Unfortunately, Nick's ex-wife just won't leave them alone. One day, Natasha comes home and realizes that her husband and daughter are gone, which begins the ride of this book.

The book is written from three points of view, Jen, Natasha, and Anna, as well as different timelines. Who the hell is Anna and what does she have to do with the mess Natasha is in? This book was slow going at first, but then the twists begin and I really started to get into it. Bits are slowly revealed until the entire picture is revealed, which is how I like my mystery/thrillers.

Overall I enjoyed it and it kept me reading, which is always a positive.

At first I was confused with the then and now aspects of the story but once I figured this out, it turned out to be an excellent book with lots of twists.

Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to preview the Ex-Wife by Jess Ryder.
A married woman whose husband still hangs around with his ex-wife, who doesn't seem to be too smart, can't drive a car and have a bank account of her own, finds out that her husband and child are missing. So she goes to the ex-wife to try to find her family.
Unfortuntaley this is too far fetched for me and it was difficult to believe that a woman likes this exists in today's world.
Not for me.

True to its genre, The Ex-Wife is full of lies and deceit, as well as confusion. Starting with a flash-forward style prologue, we see the first-person narrator intubated in hospital. By her bedside is an ‘angel’ who the narrator believes to be Emily (Natasha’s daughter) as an adult. I love prologues that give snapshots of what’s to come and this one is exceptionally clever. With no indication as to who the narrator is for this section of the book, this is something that will really make the reader think about who the protagonist actually is.

When Natasha’s husband (Nick) and Emily, go missing she has nobody to turn to. Her in-laws looked on his first wife (Jen) as their own daughter and Natasha as the evil witch who stole Nick away from her. They say they don’t know where he is but are they telling the truth? With Natasha and Nick still being married and Nick having joint parental responsibility, the police won’t help either. The only other person Natasha has is her own mother, who she has a strained relationship with. Until unexpected help comes in the form of Jen. Natasha isn’t sure she can trust her but is left with little choice. Jen is her only chance of getting Emily back.

With a dual first-person narrative we gradually see past and present time-lines converge to reveal what happened in this love triangle. The past timeline is narrated from Natasha’s perspective, and the present is narrated from Anna’s perspective. Anna is hiding something from her past and is in grave danger; but just who is Anna? When I discovered who this was I was left gasping. I didn’t see that clever twist coming.

This domestic noir type psychological thriller is just my cup of tea and I whizzed through it in just a few sittings. Under Literature Love’s rating scheme, this book has been awarded 5 out of 5 stars.

Holy cow! This book is one of the best books I’ve read in a long time. Packed with suspense, heart pounding fear, hatred for the bad guy, and emotions ready to tear you to shreds. I can’t say enough good things about this one. I finished it in just a few hours and couldn’t put it down. A must read!
