I enjoyed Wagering for Miss Blake. It was good to read a story about a woman who wants to be able to make her own decisions in life and a man who believes in marriage and fidelity. I found some of the historical details nicely accurate too. I would recommend this book.
“Wagering for Miss Blake” is the fourth book in the series, but I must admit that I found the story a bit slow. The characters of Giles Templeton, the third son of the Earl of Wexford and Suzanna, meet with Giles falling immediately in love with her, and she attracted to him. However, Suzanna’s mother wants her to marry a man with a title, hence she cuts off any attachment to him after their first meeting. Giles tries his best to woo Suzanna with her rejecting him before any more transpires. The problem is that this scene continues to replay throughout the story. This was a sweet story with nice characters. What was entertaining was the dialogue between Giles and his male friends, and I look forward to reading about Hawk and Cam in the future.

This is the first book I have read by this author and I think it will be my last. I have to be honest and say I found it difficult to finish the book as each chapter seemed to be a repeat of the last with Giles determined to win over Suzanna. It became redundant to me and not enough to hold my interest. I am not bashing the author I am just saying I did not find this story engaging enough to keep my interest.

What a great book , not read very much of Callies work , and thoroughly enjoyed this .
Giles having no title would not be a problem for me he sounded perfect, a real gent and good looking / rich too .
I’m so glad we don’t have the same system of title hunting now , marrying for love seems so much more rewarding.
I was dying for Suzanna to tell her mum to take a running jump , imagine the old trouts face, although her dad seems lovely and I adored his character .
This book had everything I was looking for including fun and frolics, can’t wait to read Hawk and Cams stories .

Callie Hutton is a reliable go-to for a fun and romantic read. The characters are interesting, well drawn and passionate. Our H spies our h across a room and is smitten, deciding to pursue her. He soon decides she is the woman he wants to wed, despite her protests that she wants to marry a man with a title, and he is just a Mister.. In truth, it’s her mother who insists she marry a title. Fortunately, mother is recuperating from the Ague, so is unable to prevent his wooing. Attending a house party they become closer. Upon returning to town, her parents arrive and put a wrench in his plans of winning her hand. A worthy read, with a nice couple and a HEA. I received a free arc in exchange for an honest review.
such a fun series. i love the man being the one to pursue instead of the other way around. its refreshing. So many great one lines and attempting to convince Miss Blake to marry him. great likable characters.
I have read many books out of the author Callie's kitty & liked her stories but this was a surprising disappointment... i didnt like it much . the story was okay. This script doesn't contain the fire, excellence that Callie's penmanship has !!!
This book was so predictable & Giles comes out as a pathetic lover boy ...he is smart, wealthy, handsome, has a midas touch but he loses his senses when it comes to Suzanna, also him falling so deeply in love is unbelievable ..
Suzanna character in fact portrays sensibility, she knows her mind, limits ...also the wager didn't make sense ...i just couldnt relate to it... so it was an ok read. hope to read other work from Callie ...
This was a honest review not with an intent to hurt as i know the hard work, dedication a author puts in her creativity ...
This is both the third book in the series that I have read (I missed book #2), as well as the third book I have ever read from this author. And in keeping with the theme of three, I'm starting to think that when it comes to this author three is the highest I will be able to rate her work.
And its actually very disappointing as I believe this author has more potential that I have seen thus far. She has a solid writing style, and often intriguing story-lines. The problem is it because repetitive to the point of tediousness. Giles takes one look at Suzanna and decides she is the woman he is going to marry. Despite her telling him she will only marry a gentleman with a title, despite her best efforts to actively AVOID him, he continues to pursue her. Now Suzanna really isn't as shallow as all that, in fact it is her mother that wants her to marry into a title, but for all she supposedly loves Giles, she is unwilling and unable to stand up to her mother and argue for her love.
This is another one of those unfortunate cases where our Hero and heroine seem stuck in a perpetual loop. They keep repeating the same thing over and over and .. well you get the idea. Just once I would like to see this author break away from this (as it is something I have noticed in all the books I have read), and take more time to explore these characters. Who they are is important, but so is who they will become. And while watching these two "court" each other (although that's not really the word I would use), was fun, I would have like to have seen more of Giles and his family winning over Suzanna's family (her mother especially). I would have like to have seen her aunt stand up for her, and heaven help me, I would have loved to have seen more of their married life than just the honeymoon.
But that is just me, and I'm sure that on the whole this story will appeal to a lot of those who enjoy historical romance novels.

I did enjoy Giles and Suzanna's story, but I didn't think the writing was as strong as was normally get from Hutton. I enjoyed the story line, a couple is attracted to each other, but because Suzanna's mother wants her to marry someone with a title, she has told Giles that there is not future for them. Of course, he isn't about to let her go, so he does everything in his power to win over Suzanna and eventually her mother.
For me, this was just an ok read and I hope that the next one that Hutton puts out is up to the normal standard that I have come to expect from her.
A wonderful love story filled with wit and laughter. The daughter trying to please the grasping mother and then falling in love with the man she considers unworthy. The battle of wills ensues and love wins. Regency romance at its best.
Miss Blake is a beautiful debutante who wants to marry for love, but her mother insists on a title. Enter Mr. Giles Templeton, a very handsome, wealthy business man from a titled family. Unfortunately he has no title and as the third son, his brother will inherit . He falls in love with Miss Blake and makes a wager that he will make her fall in love with him before the season is over. Despite trying to stay away from him, she is often in his company where he tries to court her. Deep feelings grow between them but her mother will not hear of her seeing him. He has to have a title or no marriage. Can he get a title or convince Mrs Blake to change her mind? I loved this book and all the shenanigans that the pair get up to.. I received this book from Net Galley for an honest review.
I loved this book start to finish. I enjoyed Giles determination and pursuit of Miss Blake. Suzanna and Giles fit perfectly together.

This seem to be written by someone who has read a lot of historical romance books. Collected all the clichés out there (and let’s be honest, there are a LOT..), and put it in this one.
It won’t be the first author who does it, and it won’t be the last.
**********
Scenario (no spoilers):
Suzanna Blake has been trained since birth that she needs to marry a man with a title. Giles Templeton is the third son of an earl, and while he has a lot of money, he has no title. They meet. There is insta attraction/love. She turns him down. He won’t have it. He makes a wager she will fall in love with him.
The clichés and writing in this book got exhausting and really soured my reading experience.
- As he drew near, drawn like a bee to a flower, he noted her eyes were as blue as a crystal-clear lake in summer, her lips red and plump and her skin as fresh as new-fallen snow.
- He enjoyed the typical well-placed bachelor’s life, and one day he would settle down, take a wife, and fill his nursery. He’s always assumed he could have any woman he wanted.
- “Do you deny the attraction between us?”
Heat rose to her face, and the now familiar flutters in her middle when she was near him returned with a vengeance. “As a sheltered young lady, I have no idea of what you speak.”
- The light scent of brandy and mint from his warm mouth eased her, while his wicked tongue touched all the sensitive parts of her mouth, creating havoc with her body. Her clothing felt restrictive, the tips of her breasts tingled, and the place between her legs grew moist and heavy.
I gave up.
I received this book from net galley and the publisher for an honest review. Thank you!!
This novel was an enjoyable read. I enjoyed the pursuit and the banter between the two main characters. Miss Suzanna Blake wants to marry for love but her mother has other ideas. Her mother desires a title and has been pushing Suzanna in that directions for years. Suzanna wants to go against her mother, but her father gives into her mother demands and anytime she has rebelled, it has ended in disappointment. Suzanna begins to question what she truly desires when she meets Mr. Giles Templeton, third son of the Earl of Wexford. Giles is handsome, wealthy, but has no title. This has not stopped the marriage minded mamas and ladies from pursuing him. However, the moment he sees Suzanna, he knows she is the woman meant for him. Suzanna likes Giles, even though she tries to push him away. She can have conversations with him and he appreciates her mind. The more Suzanna pushes, the harder Giles tries to pull her in. Suzanna cannot deny what she feels for Giles. However, her mother continuously interferes and Suzanna feels torn. However, when a misunderstanding has Giles leaving town, Suzanna is deeply hurt. When Giles realizes his mistake, will Suzanna be willing to forgive him? Will he be able to sway her parents into accepting him as a husband for Suzanna?
