If the Coffin Fits is the second book in this incredible series by Lillian Bell.
It isn't often that I gush about a book, but this one is deserving.
Desiree may have lost her job as an investigative journalist, but that doesn't stop her from asking questions when something feels off.
What appears to be a tragic car accident turns sinister and Desiree refuses to stop poking into other people's lives.
This is an intense story full of secrets and lies. The author writes such a well told story that this could be read as a stand alone.
I was glued to my kindle the whole time and I truly felt that I was right there with this colorful cast of characters.
The cliff hangers the end has me creating my own scenarios in my head, I can't wait until the next book is out.
If you aren't familiar with this series, I highly recommend it to any cozy mystery fans out there.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for approving me to read and review an ARC of this book.
Desiree may have left her job as an investigative reporter behind, but she certainly didn’t lose her nose for trouble. A suspicious conversation overheard at her family’s funeral home leads Desiree to look for wrongdoing. Violet Daugherty died in a one person accident, apparently a victim of drowsy driving. But Nate, Desiree’s friend and the local medical examiner, finds a few items that don’t add up - but is it murder? As Desiree digs into Violet’s life, the suspects multiply, and someone may be willing to kill again to keep from being discovered.
If the Coffin Fits is an intriguing mystery that looks at how far people will go to belong and looks at the very real drama that arises when family connections long hidden are discovered. Desiree’s investigations have consequences, for her family’s business as well as herself but that doesn’t mean that they don’t pull together when she is in danger. If the Coffin Fits is an excellent cozy mystery that tackles one of the difficult questions today - what do you do when dna testing shows you have family you never knew existed.

Working in the family funeral parlor, Desiree Turner not only deals with the deceased, it seems she spends quite a bit of time figuring out their cause of death. Must be the journalist in her, but when she over hears two sisters conversation as she is planning their fathers funeral, she questions whether they sod up their father’s death.
As Desiree and her boyfriend Nate, the local medical examiner, discover another questionable death it seems the town begins to fear being accused of murder when they bury a loved one. As a result business drops off and Desiree is pressured into giving up her snooping. But that doesn’t last long and she’s back at it. You won’t guess who did it and why until the very end.
OK, I’ll admit it. Funeral parlors creep me out. I mean it’s the thing my nightmares are made of. Yet I thoroughly enjoyed my time spent at the Turner Family Funeral Home...and can’t wait until the next viewing, I mean book.
I really enjoyed this book! I can see so much potential in this series and it excites me! Lillian Bell writes a great mystery with delightful characters and a fantastic setting! It's unique, fun, and fresh! I very much recommend this series for seasoned cozy readers and those who are new to the genre.
Very interesting and great read. The plot was full of twists and turns. Enjoyed the book very much and enjoyed the characters.
It's a normal business day at the Turner Family Funeral Home until funeral director/reporter Desiree Turner overhears a conversation that arouses suspicions about the death of one of her clients. Did she misunderstand what she heard, or is she once again involved in murder? As the family business starts to suffer, and Desiree's life is in danger, she knows that she (and her new canine companion) have no choice but to investigate. Excellent little cozy mystery, with just the right amount of humor and romance thrown in. If the Coffin Fits by author Lillian Bell receives an A+ from this happy lover of cozy mysteries!
The second in this new series has Desiree Turner getting more familiar with her job at the family funeral home while she still keeps her hand in journalism by writing local interest stories for the Verbena paper.
Most of the funeral home's patrons die from old age, illness. However being a reporter Desiree just can't help but look for anything suspicious. And when Frank Fiore's daughters seem to be harboring some secrets, Desiree can't help but think poor Mr. Fiore may have had help on his way out.
When another suspicious death comes in, Desiree and Nate are not going to just let it go.
As she pokes her nose in where people wish she wouldn't, she risks losing it all. The business and maybe even her life.
This is a most interesting Cozy series. Set in a funeral home with an ongoing story line that has Desiree still searching for her missing and presumed dead father. And she may just find a clue or two if she can keep herself from being a guest of her own family's services!
The characters are well done, the story never lags and Desiree is now one of my favorite characters.
Well Done, Ms. Bell!

A great book! I really enjoyed this book. The writing style is easy to read and the character likable. Orion is the cutest dog. I loved the plot and the follow-thru. #IfTheCoffinFits #NetGalley
Oh how I love this series. This is the second in the Funeral Parlor Mysteries by Lillian Bell. In this book, Desiree Turner is working at her family's funeral home. Suddenly there seem to be a lot of suspicious deaths, and Desiree is starting to think what she sees and hears are all related. Of course, she also thinks her presumed-dead father is still alive, so what's a little murder mystery in the grand scheme of things? Those around her tend to think she is overreacting as usual, but a near miss starts to make them nervous. Then there is the drop off in business after Desiree starts to accuse people of murder. Oh, and she adopts a dead woman's dog. All in all, an average week for Desiree.
I didn't think this book was quite as good as the first, but it was still pretty great. I love the humor. It's realistic and not reaching. The characters are likeable and easy to identify with. The town is small enough to seem like an authentic cozy, but still large enough to have a good suspect pool. Great book
This is the second of this series and I have eagerly read them both. Humor, but not cutesy. Smart, but light. Enjoyable, not over the top characters. Good, solid cozy series and I am looking forward to the next installment.
