I'm not entirely sure how to describe this book! It's mildly funny, the storyline is reasonably unusual and certainly unusual and the characters are...well, they're not really anything to be honest. Even our heroine is a dropout waster with few redeeming features. Yes, i get that she's only 23, but how on the one hand is she so utterly lazy and careless and yet on the other capable of rowing herself 70 miles across open water in pursuit of her dream, which is just plain daft.

The premise is ridiculous, but when did that ever stop a book being readable or successful. I enuinely don't care if things simply couldn't happen, that's how fiction works, on the whole, but I do want to actually like the characters and be invested in what they're doing. I think the problem lies in the utter shallowness of the whole thing. There's nothing to take from it, nothing to gain from it and it's only a mildly entertaining read. Okay for the beach I suppose, if you're constantly bothered by kids and need something where losing your place doesn't really matter.

This book was really funny and made laugh out loud.
The plot is quite weird and hilarious at the same time, the cast of characters is interesting and the style of writing is unsual and creative.

Ingrid ditches her freezing hometown in Minnesota for the paradise of Kauai after she comes into a sizable inheritance. She knows her money won't last forever so she has two part time jobs: working as a tour guide and drinking with her independently wealthy (read: jobless) boyfriend Ethan and his buddy Charlie. When she isn't working or drinking, she spends a lot of time plotting how to get rid of the chicken population taking over paradise with their loud crowing and general stupidity.
In her quest to rid the island of feral chickens we meet a cast of interesting characters including: Koa, the wise Hawaiian with a permanent seat at the bar; Biggie Smalls, the obese Yorkie; and an "assassination of mongooses" (yeah, that is the plural) under anesthesia.
Shark attacks, shady investment deals, and illegal animal smuggling are what you're in for when you pick up this Hawaiian comedy. Dramatically over the top and absolutely hilarious, the crude humor and ridiculous situations Ingrid puts herself in are laugh out loud entertaining even when I found myself rolling my eyes a couple times.

Fabulous, fun read. A balance of light humor and real cultural difference. Would highly recommend as a read for most.

DNF at 50%. I just can't go on. The main character is such a boring, "I'm not like other girls" stereotype. I also can't believe that a 23-year-old would think that a video with a thousand views is "viral". That might be a petty complaint, but it really broke my suspension of disbelief.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story, although when I began reading I could not imagine how a story about feral chickens could entertain me!. Told by a young woman, Ingrid, who inherited a piece of land worth that an oil company,offered her $2,000,000 for. She sold it to them right away. With the resources to move from a boring job in North Dakota, she decided on Kauai. Once there the adventures begin. She started counting the feral chicken that over ran the Island. (A true fact by the way.). A very heavy drinker, she often went to the bar where she met Ethan and Charlie, like wise boozers! They become inseparable and partied wherever and whenever they could. She worked for a while, but quit as she hated the boss........becoming obsessed with the chickens she started to plan a way to get rid of them. She didn't tell Ethan, who by this time was her lover, or Charlie of her plans. The schemes she concocted give the story its essence.. A well written, original idea for a story.

What a cool book. I realised halfway through that I was actually reading a story about a slightly eccentric character and her mission to kill chickens. I've never had that before.
I loved it, the writing, the language, the characters, the story. It is one of those books that is totally unique and purely entertaining and pleasurable. It reminded me of the Scandinavian stories that aren't in a hurry but take you on a glorious journey, you just have to sit back and enjoy it.
I can't not comment the insults, hilarious, I now have a great range of names to hurl that will bring great a smile and diffuse my anger
