This is the fourth book in the DI Lambert series, and they just keep on getting better. I love the way the story unfolded, and how everything was tied up towards the end. Recommended.

A solid police procedural thriller which draws the reader in from the beginning and is an easy read throughout.
The characters are strong and (some) are likable.
Good plot line and unpredictable in places.

It's been a while since I read the last book but I immediately felt 'at home' when starting this. An easy to read, quick paced book.

Matt Brolly's DCI Lambert book series has so far been a treat to read and Dead Time only enhances that experience.

The books are well written, have a solid plot and deliver excitement and enjoyment.

If you've not read Brolly, pick up a book and start reading, it will be one of your better decisions!

People are being murdered and there is a link to DCI Lambert who in turn is sure when a prisoner is helped to escape when being transferred that there is a link to one of his major past cases. He is being warned to back off, MI5 are involved as is a past colleague with whom he had a relationship that nearly destroyed his marriage. Events begin to spiral, DCI Lambert is under investigation and suspended and his wife and daughter disappear. His boss believes in him, together they try to stop events escalating.
The story moved along at a fast pace and for the most part I enjoyed it, I did think that the original crime was a little unbelievable but still worth the read.

What do you do when you're innocent, but murders keep happening, and your name is left on the scene? And when those murders are EXACTLY as ones you've worked all through your career, so you get sidelined, or do you solve the case before you get arrested? DCI Lambert does just that- he tackles the dilemma by working in the shadows and with his former colleague, to see if the breakout and the cases are related. This 4th book in the series is a roller coaster, you'll find yourself staying up quite late to see who actually is the murder, so be warned!

DCI Lambert is back in book 4 of the series. He is sent to investigate the possible suicide of a man electrocuted in his bath, but Lambert realises that it may be murder as on the man’s body is a card with DCI Lambert’s name printed on it. More bodies turn up with DCI Lambert’s card on them, is he being set up? Lambert is back with his ex wife and adopted daughter but is reunited with his ex girlfriend, DCI Sarah May, as she is involved in the escape from custody of a member of a paedophile ring whom Lambert imprisoned. Is there a connection between the two cases? This is a fast paced book that will keep you gripped. A highly recommended series of books.
Thanks to NetGalley and Canelo for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

Late to the party on this one. Number 4 in the series and I kept thinking I’d missed out as both the main and subplots do refer back a lot. That said it’s a great read with great characters. A real warts and all story with a great ending

Personal and professional conflicts figure large in “Dead Time,” Matt Brolly’s latest in his DCI Lambert series. There is a parallel story running through these pages that feature DCI Sarah May, an old flame of Lambert’s (maybe not so old, however). Her case involves an escaped prisoner that Lambert knows well, and readers are taken through the steps of tying her case and his involvement together. How is DCI Lambert involved in his current investigation and the one that concerns DCI May? Why is they both being blocked at every turn, in more ways than one? Everything eventually has a connection to Lambert -- it’s the mark of a good writer that this tried and true cliché stays fresh within the pages of “Dead Time.”

Regrets and recriminations form much of the backdrop of the book. Lambert spends a goodly amount of time questioning pretty much everything he’s done. A little of that goes a long way, however. Luckily readers are able to get through these passages fairly quickly.

The horrific background to the entire investigation -- the pedophile ring we’ve learned about from earlier books -- is presented in truncated fashion; while it is possible to read this as a standalone, it would be more illuminating if the reader has followed the fortunes of DCI Lambert and his colleagues through the three other, earlier books in the series. If you’re a fan of Lambert, you’ve done so already.

The middle sags a bit, as Lambert combats the threats to his involvement in the case -- we knew this was coming, didn’t we, faithful reader. And on the personal side, he wants to have his cake and eat it too, when it comes to Sophie and Sarah. Sophie comes across as a cypher in this book. We don’t know much about her, and things don’t change by the end.

Eventually, something very personal happens. Nothing good can come of this -- and nothing does. There’s a bit of daylight in the epilogue, and we’ll see in a later book where life will take DCI Lambert.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the copy of this book, in exchange for this review.

An enthralling investigation for DCI Lambert. Cases from his past being dragged into modern day, for him to solve. With consequences he could not have expected. Case solved but further investigation necessary to bring this to a conclusion. However a seemingly an old romance rekindled to give DCI Lambert something to look forward to in his life.

Dead Time is the 4th book in the DCI Lambert series by Matt Brolly but the first one that I have read.

The lack of having read the other books was not a hindrance as there was enough backstory to fill in the gaps and to make me want to read the other books in the series.

Dead Time itself is a fast moving, page turning (or clicking) story where the action never stops and us thoroughly entertaining.

Yes you can probably drive a cart & horses through the police procedures described but this I found that this did not detract from the type of story.

So yes another series to add to the TBR pile

DCI Lambert is one of the good guys. Good at his job but not as a husband. He never seems able to keep his family happy. The local news person isn't very fond of him either and is busy blacksmith his name, with help from some very nasty people. No matter how many times he is told to back off, even to the point of being suspended, he's like a dog with a bone and won't let go.

Enjoypread

DCI Lambert is back in action. Fans will not be disappointed with this book in the series. A thoroughly enjoyable read by Matt Brolly. A fast paced police procedural with an insight into Lambert's personal life. A 4 star read from me. Thank you for my copy, I reviewed on Amazon, Goodreads and Facebook.

I would absolutely recommend this book. It's fast paced, with a well developed plot that brings you into the life of Lambert, his fellow police officers and family. A definite must read! This storyline and plot is full of blind alleys, twists and turns and shocks, you just do not see coming.

Another well written, complex and twisted novel from Brolly. However this is a direct continuation of the first book, not an instalment as such and therefore I highly recommend reading the first book prior to this.
