I read this last night, and decided I would have to stay up until I finished it, I wanted to find out about the conclusion. This has become a great series and gets better with each book! I have to flag up that there the story does include child abuse and paedophiles so it can be a little hard to read in parts due to this.
A really fab read which was twist filled, engaging, and very very chilling. The fast pace means you continue to turn the pages, then you hit the finale without realising you're at the end. I found it riveting, it's amazing when a book has an interesting narrative that keeps your attention right the way through like this did. I love it when the author manages to shock you with the ending and Hood definitely surprised me here.
I would like to thank DK Hood, Bookouture, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Follow You Home is book 3 in the Detective Kane and Alton series. In my opinion this series just keeps getting better, although this one is very dark and deals with a tough subject which is hard to read at times..
The pair are called to the the scene when a man is found murdered in a secluded cabin. Days a later another man is found dead and it becomes clear that the murders are linked and they have a vigilante killer on their hands. Things escalate and the detectives race to stop the killer before they strike again.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for my advanced copy of this book to read in exchange for my honest review
Sheriffs Jenna Alton and Dave Kane are at first on the case of a dead body found in a secluded house. They quickly discover that this brutal murder is the first of its kind when another body is found. It becomes apparent that a vigilante killer is on the loose. There has been a rash of missing girls over the past several years and they wonder if one of the earlier victims has turned into said vigilante.
The synopsis of Follow Me Home in no way alluded me to the fact that the subject matter would be so utterly dark and chilling. It was quite painful to read at times as I did not at all relish being in the minds, even if just for a second, of the sick, perverted pedophiles that are being picked off one by one. Nonetheless, this read is compelling as this sick group of men needs to be stopped, as does the killer. It remains truly gripping and the twists and turns were just enough to upset me more than once. This is book three in the series but read rather well as a standalone to me. I most certainly will follow future books by this author.
Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC to review.
Follow Me Home by D.K. Hood is the 3rd in the Detectives Kane and Alton series.
First, let me thank NetGalley, the publisher Bookouture, and of course the author, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Series Background:
Sheriff Jenna Alton is new to being a Sheriff. She is new to being Jenna Alton. She has a new name, and a new ID, because her past is still out there. She’s former DEA. Deputy David Kane also has a new name and new ID. Similar reasons. He’s a former Special Forces sharpshooter with exceptional profiling skills. Forensic Scientist Shane Wolf is not only a Medical Examiner with amazing computer skills, he used to be Kane’s handler. So, with a few other deputies, Jenna has a good team to handle crime in the small Black Rock Falls town, which seems to have more murders than a small town should.
My Synopsis:
When Amos Price is found dead in a house that is listed for sale, with no incriminating evidence left behind, the Sheriff and her team are perplexed. As his background comes to light, it seems he was a pedophile, and may have been part of a larger ring. When another body turns up with a similar background, they realize there is a vigilante on the loose, probably a woman. As much as her victims deserve to die, taking matters into her own hands is still against the law.
My Opinions:
Every book in the series gets better, as Hood fine-tunes both the characters and her writing style. Jenna Alton is not quite the wimp she appeared to be in the first two books, and Kane is starting to let her be the Sheriff. As always, her plot is very strong as she tackles the topic of child kidnapping and abuse.
Good, fast read !
Thank you to Netgalley, the author and the Publisher, Bookouture for this review copy given in exchange for an honest review. Also thank you to Noelle from Bookouture for organising the Blog Tour!
This is Book #3 of the Kane & Alton series. It can be read as a standalone book, but for continuity it would make sense to read them in order! For information, this book is based in the USA.
I’ve read the other 2 books in this series and loved them, so was keen to read this one. Sheriff Jenna Alton is back with her trusty sidekicks, Deputies Dave Kane and Shane Wolfe, to solve the case of the death of recluse, Amos Price, whose body was found in an empty house which was up for sale. When Jenna and her team begin to look into the victim’s history, they find a link between him and the disappearance of several young girls going back many years. When another body is found a few days later, Jenna discovers more links to a paedophile gang and the killer may have been a victim of this gang serving their own form of justice. Jenna and her team find themselves in a race against time to find the remaining members of the gang before the killer does.
Welcome back Sheriff Alton! I love the characters in these books and love the relationships between them all, particularly between Alton and Kane. As in the other books, Kane is back in his unofficial capacity of Jenna’s personal bodyguard, but there may also be a hint of a different kind of relationship between them for future books (and to be honest, who could blame her! Dave Kane sounds the perfect man!)
As in the previous books, the story jumps straight into the action right from the beginning and the suspense does stop until the very end. I have never had a ‘boring’ bit in any of these books – I read and devour every single word! I love the way the killer is kept secret until near enough the very end. I didn’t guess who it was at all, and probably accused everyone by the time of the reveal! The story is very cleverly written in that it gives you so many different possibilities and it keeps you thinking the whole way through!
A word of warning though, the story does feature child abuse and paedophiles, but there are no graphic scenes and it is very sensitively written. I personally think that this series is getting stronger with every book and would highly recommend this book and, of course, the rest of the series. A fabulous book by an author who is rapidly leapfrogging her way up my list of ‘Best Authors of the Year’!
Follow Me Home by D.K. Hood is the third book in the Detectives Kane and Alton police procedural series. The opening book of the series introduced readers to a pair of detectives that have their own pasts they were hiding from. Both are tough as nails and determined to find out who is behind the crimes in the small town while they navigate the waters of their own working relationship.
In this installment Kane and Alton have yet another dead body and a killer to find when a man is found inside of a locked home. Clues begin to lead the detectives to find that the victim may have been a criminal himself with ties to missing children. As another body turns up they find themselves not only chasing a killer but hunting down a ring of child molesters that crimes seem to go back decades.
Being the third book in the series I already knew these detectives and the small town of Black Rock Falls quite well so there didn’t seem to be reason to question liking that side of the story. Getting into this installment though this wasn’t my favorite case of the series so far though.
There’s a part of me that would just rather the vigilante hunting down the pond scum that have traumatized young children just continue on with chasing them down. Then as the story turns to that case it almost seems as if it’s to protect the ring of molesters from being murdered instead of protecting the children. While not my favorite of the series though I would still head back to Black Rock again in the future.
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
I love these books and didn’t see it coming which I also love. I’m more of a UK crime thriller but have been hooked on Kane and Alton since the start
I would like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Follow Me Home’ written by DK Hood in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
The body of Amos Price is discovered after being viciously attacked in a remote area of Black Rock Falls. The body of Ely Dorsey is then found in a motel, leading Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy David Kane to believe that the men are part of a child pornography ring who wear clown masks to snatch their victims. The killer makes contact with Jenna and David and leaves clues suggesting that the men are connected to the disappearance of several young girls in the county going back several years. Is someone on a vendetta to rid the county of paedophiles? Can they discover his or her identity before more bodies are found?
‘Follow Me Home’ is the third gripping thriller featuring the characters of Jenna Alton and David Kane and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading it. The plot is complex and is both convincing and exciting, there’s lots of action, many twists and turns, and enough suspects to keep me guessing. I thought I’d predicted the identity of the killer but once again I was totally mistaken. The novel ended with a dramatic and unexpected ending, leaving me on the edge of my seat. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
Thank you to DK Hood, NetGalley & the publisher for the opportunity to read and review "Follow Me Home", the third in the Kane and Alton series.
This one was a little difficult, as it addressed a real problem in society: child luring, chat rooms, grooming and kidnapping & rape of minors.
Someone is killing off child molesters in Black Rock Falls (and, by the way the crime rate in BRF seems to be above the National norm - I'm just saying), and Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy David Kane, with the assistance of Deputy and Forensic Investigator Wolfe plus two new Deputies and the regular cast of characters must a) find and put an end to the murders but most of all b) find and put an end to a group of child molesters who seem to be operating out of Black Rock Falls and the surrounding area.
Within the main plot line of revenge, several hostages are rescued from their captors, and Kane & Alton foil a robbery and escape in Blackwater just for a rest.
Very well written, as Ms. Hood always does, this one held me breathless to the very end.
Recommended.
You know them, those books that drag you in from the very first page. Well, this is one that can be put on that list as well. Until the last chapter the author succeeded in keeping the killer a secret and I kept racking my brain, but I would never have guessed who it was.
Although killing somebody is never to be accepted, but in this case I have to admit I felt sympathy.
I only have one remark. To me sheriff Alton was rather harsh and impolite sometimes towards her collegues. I can't compare her to how she was in the other books because I did not read them, but maybe it had something to do with the kind of crimes that were being comitted and that she was so eager to solve everything that she acted this way.
Overall a very gripping story that kept my attention for the full 100%.
Thank you D.K. Hood, Bookouture and Netgalley.
Really good read with twists and involved plot. The detectives come to conclusions logically and the end makes sense. Not a cozy
Wow this book was amazing, the series is getting better with each book. It was totally thrilling and had me hanging on to every word. I love DK's style of writing it leaves you wanting more. This is the book I didnt want to end I was enjoying it so much. Everything about this book is superb a real quality piece of writing. Well worth 5 stars, in fact I wish I could give it more.
I loved the first two books in this series featuring Jenna Alton & David Kane so was looking forward to reading the third instalment and I wasn’t disappointed! It had the usual twists and turns we have come to expect from DK Hood and I couldn’t put it down. I also didn’t guess the culprit until it was revealed at the end and I’m usually so good at guessing them!! That to me is the sign of a good book. It was nice to get to know the new additions to the team and hope we get to see more of them in future books. All in all a brilliant book and can’t wait for the next instalment.
Thanks a million Netgalley and Bookouture for allowing me to read this book. I absolutely love D.K Hood. She is an amazing author!! Follow Me Home is a book that I absolutely devoured! From cover to cover ur gripped. I can't wait for the next one!!
I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of Follow Me Home, the third novel to feature Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy David Kane of the Black Rock Falls, Montana Sherriff's Department.
When the body of Amos Price is found in an empty house Alton and Kane initially think natural causes but further investigation suggests he has some unsavoury habits and it might be murder. When Eli Dorsey's body is found a couple of days later and he has the same habits Alton and Kane suspect they may be looking for a vigilante.
I enjoyed Follow Me Home which has a dark subject matter but enough twists and turns to keep the reader engrossed. The killer is not identified by name but the motive is made abundantly clear to the reader from page one and while I guessed the identity from the start it did not spoil my enjoyment of the novel as much of that derives from watching the team trying to keep up and working out both a viable suspect and potential victims. The motive is emotive and sure to provoke discussion as does most vigilantism.
As I said there are plenty of twists and turns in the novel, most of them unpleasant and upsetting, so the reader is never sure of what will be coming next. Ms Hood has a vivid imagination and does not shy away from the darker side of human nature so this novel is not for the faint hearted. Those of a stronger constitution will find it gripping as the team battles a clever and troubled killer. There are a couple of jarring notes in the killer's thought processes about David Kane but I can't expand on that rather cryptic comment without spoilers. It's just obvious enough to comment on.
Alton and Kane grow closer as the series progresses and are now a very effective team. The hint of possible romance still hovers but no more than that, as does the mystery of why three (including new addition Deputy Woolfe) highly trained former federal law enforcement officers have been relocated and hidden away in rural Montana. Obviously it makes them effective investigators in the crime wave that arrived in town about the same time as they did but if there is more to it no hints are offered in this novel.
Follow Me Home is a good read which I have no hesitation in recommending.
Excellent 3rd book in this series, I can't get enough of Sheriff Jenna Alton and her Deputies. Duke is a great addition to the team. In this book the body of a man is found brutally murdered, then a second body is found. While searching for the killer they rescue two girls being held captive. This story (as all in this series has) kept my interest from the beginning to the end. I was not expecting the ending. Waiting for Book 4. Thank you NetGalley, Bookoutre and the Author for allowing me to read and review this book.
Great addition to a great series. I loved the first two books in this series and number three does not disappoint. Kane & Alton are back doing what they do best and as usual the bad guys take the trouble to their door!. I never guessed who the culprit was! Nice character development in the subplot and introduction of new characters too to the team. While this would work fine as a standalone having the backstory of the characters from the series so far makes it even more enjoyable . Already looking forward to #4

Detective Jenna Alton is an ex-undercover DEA Agent, living in witness protection with a new face and a new name, in the small town of Black Rock Falls.
Over several years, young girls have gone missing .. never to be seen or heard from again. When Jenna and her team are called to investigate the brutal of a man, they are surprised to find a link to those missing girls.
Days later, another man's body is found ... killed in a frenzied attack and Jenna fears not only that the murders are connected to the missing girls, but that the killer hasn’t finished yet.
As Jenna tries to work out who will be next, the killer suddenly starts sending her deputy, David Kane, messages. Is she being taunted? Or does the murderer want to be caught? And will Jenna discover who’s behind these killings before more people die?
Black Rock Falls is a bottomless pit of secrets. Smoke and shadows cloak the real story of what is happening .. and it's far more evil than anyone could understand.
Fans of crime fiction will find this one edgy and suspenseful starting with the very first page. There are intense twists and turns that keep the reader riveted to the written page.
Although this is third in the series, it is easily read as a stand alone. As usual, I recommend starting with the first book so as to not miss any of those golden nuggets that make the reader go WOW!
I can't really say that the characters are credible in comparison with real life law enforcement. Although Jenna and her deputies seem to have super skills, it is a compelling read. The only negative I can relay is that in this particular book, Jenna seems to be bossy, even rude at times, to the very people who are watching her back at every moment. She seems to be a harder character than in the first two books.
Many thanks to the author / Bookouture / Netgalley for the advanced digital copy of this crime thriller. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
The book had me gripped from the beginning. Alton and Kane have the best partnership. Though the topic is harsh reality it was done so tastefully and shows a great deal of ingenuity on the author's part.
