Loved it and more than willing to write a rave review! My favorite type of comics have action that spills out of the designated boxes, that make the whole page seem alive with color and activity. This comic and Freddy William's art has that in spades. In New York everything appears to be moving and almost visually overwhelming, giving a real sense of the city.
This book also walked a fine line between Batman's expected darkness and the turtles' whimsy. My favorite interaction by far was between Robin and the brothers, trying and often failing to get him to call them by their names instead of "Turtle." With appearances by such heavy hitters as Ra's al Ghul, Bane, and Mr. Freeze this book doesn't skimp on the action. It's both fun and fast, and I hope to see an episode of Variant Comics do a rundown of it. Though I've read the graphic novel, I'd watch the episode. It's good enough for a going over.
This was the crossover I didn't know I needed until I saw it. My favorite childhood superheroes (that would be the Turtles) meet some of my favorite superheroes as an adult! This is easy enough for a newcomer to pick up, and is a lot of fun to read. The art is exciting, and word balloons are color coded to help readers identify who is speaking (and don't worry, the effect is subtle. I didn't actually notice until several pages in).
I loved this book so freaking much. Even more than I loved the first Batman/TMNT arc, which I raved about to people who most certainly didn't care about anything I was talking about.
Crossovers like this, especially ones that feature different universes and extensive histories and diverse casts, can be tricky to say the least. They're almost always the result of some editorial mandate instead of anything organic. This crossover, even more than the first book, had none of the problems I typically fear with this kind of event and instead was just jam-packed full of fun, interesting, and genuinely excellent ideas. And the fact that a relationship between Batman and the Turtles had already been established allowed the story to get into the good stuff very quickly.
I thought that Bane in the TMNT New York was perfect. His villainy worked perfectly with their universe and his interactions with the Turtles, and Bebop and Rocksteady, and The Foot, all was genius.
I want to rave more, but I don't want to spoil anything more. Just know that if you love both Batman and TMNT, then you need to read both of the crossover books (but especially this one). You definitely won't be disappointed.
Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II seems like a strange crossover but blends perfectly the elements of Batman and the TMNJ. Donnie inadvertently trades places with Bane while trying to contact Batman and unleashes the villain on New York City. Batman and Robin travel to the Turtles world to fight Bane's new Foot soldiers. The majority of this tale occurs in the Turtle universe with team ups between the good guys and Shredder to defeat Bane. Damian Wayne and Raphael's fight scene quickly became my favorite scene in the whole book with all the snark and anger clear for all to see. The unlikely duo mesh perfectly to bring maximum enjoyment. All the laughs from the Turtles and Robin combined with the seriousness of Batman create the perfect recipe of an action packed comic that pleases and amuses. I went into the comic a little skeptical as to the working dynamic in the story line and characters but it works perfectly and easily becomes highly addictive. The art is perfectly drawn and dark to set the mood. This is a great comic crossover that leaves the reader satisfied and coming back for more. My voluntary, unbiased review is based upon a review copy from Netgalley.
Batman and Robin (Damian) and the Turtles team up to defeat Bane. I was pretty skeptical about this title, but it turns out to be a great crossover. Plus, Casey Jones. I'll be recommending this for my library!
