Overall, this is a satisfactory and enjoyable mystery. It feels like a bit of a stretch in some places, especially in the dynamics of the marriage and "the reveal." But I had fun reading it...so not a loss at all! Thank you NetGalley and publishers for providing a digital ARC for review.
"The Space Between" is a gripping and deceptive thriller that took me by surprise. The cover and title may seem misleading, but the story delves into edgy territory, exploring the hidden layers within our relationships. The twists and turns kept me engaged, questioning how well we truly know those closest to us. This thought-provoking and slightly creepy book delves into the mysteries of deceit, leaving readers both intrigued and unnerved.
It's been quite a while since I read a book in a day, but I started reading this one and couldn't stop. The mystery and suspense sucked me in, and though I figured out the ending pretty quickly, I was still interested to see it unfold. Also, I thought Sarah's job at CIT was fascinating.
Attention-grabbing (and holding) mystery and suspense (and a little love story too). Twisty and turny and intriguing.
I know we aren’t supposed to judge a book by it’s cover, but I honestly did not expect such an edgy deceit filled book from this cover (or YA sounding title). Sometimes that works in the authors favor and sometimes not. I can’t quite decide which way it worked this time. I was just completely surprised but the twisty mystery that these pages laid out. How can we really ever know the people in our lives? They can be so much more underneath than what we ever see. This book explores that deceit. What can be hidden even from our most intimate relationships. And that made this book both thought provoking and actually a little creepy.
Excellent story of high school sweethearts, filled with drama, thrills and heartfelt moments, would highly recommend.
While I think the plot was okay, it definitely could be better fleshed out. It's an overall interesting story with some interesting mystery aspects. It's a bit of a predictable story but it's mostly enjoyable.
I really enjoyed this book. There is a lot of mystery and intrigue that keeps you guessing what is going to happen next. The references to space and planets was very interesting and educational without being nerdy. There were lots of great expressions comparing space and the relationship between Sarah and Ben.
The story weaves the past and present and there are times when you have to stop and think about what time period you are dealing with. But it really isn't too distracting.
As is true for most people, there are relationship issues with either family, friends, or colleagues. So the characters are true to life and is seems realistic. The author does a great job of developing the characters and keeping you interested in the story. In fact, this is one of those books where I didn't want to put it down...I kept flipping through the pages and had trouble making myself stop at the end of a chapter.
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I really liked the idea behind this book--wife goes on a business trip, husband is missing when wife gets home, and nothing is as it seems. I also really liked the geeky love story and that the wife is a genius astronomer for NASA. I think the plot could have been fleshed out a little more to make the story less predictable but it was still entertaining.
This book had me at the edge of my seat because Sarah couldn't quite catch a break and everything kept unraveling before her at every turn. It's a compelling read, thrilling a bit and more suspenseful than I had expected.
Thanks Netgalley for the eARC.
Fabulous and captivating from beginning to end! Once you start reading you will not want to put this down!
This one is a page turner! I stayed up until 1am to see what happened. The author brilliantly wove in starry facts with compelling fiction.
After announcing the biggest discovery of her career, Sarah Mayfield, astronomer, comes home and finds that her life has been totally tuned upside down. Her husband of fifteen years, Ben, is missing and as time goes on is presumed to be dead. Sarah and her son Kyle are trying to get by the day to day trying to understand what’s happening to their lives. Sarah is thrust into a world she never imagined and begins to question everything she knows about her marriage, her husband, her life. Sarah also comes to find out that maybe she doesn’t know certain people in her life as well as she thinks she does. As the mystery unfolds will Sarah be able to put her life back together?
This book has you hooked from the very beginning. One of my favorite things Sarah says several times in the book is “Like so many things in the universe, the answers might be hiding in plain sight or obscured by what we see in front of us”. Sarah’s willingness to try and see things from all angles and make new discoveries whether it be in her work or in life is infectious. Dete Meserve has written an incredible story of faith, love, family and hope, with a fantastic mystery to make it all come together!
I absolutely loved this book. If you haven’t read Dete Meserve before, I suggest you pick up one of her books. She’s an amazing author that tells you a story that keeps you riveted until the end.
The Space Between is the first book I have read by Dete Meserve. I will now be looking for her other books! This is the spellbinding story of Sara Mayfield and her family - - her missing husband and her son. As you read the plot twists and turns and the story really pulls you in. I couldn't put this book down. I highly recommend it!
Missing husband and secrets left behind....Intriguing love story and mystery with a touch of NASA. A hard book to put down.
here are many thrillers, with missing people that I have read recently and heard about even more. I begin with this because though there is a missing person in this story, and there are hidden facts that come into the light and suspiciously behaving people this does not fall into the same categories as those thrillers. SO much so that I refrain from labelling it as such.
Sarah Mayfield just reaches home after a triumphant time about her team's latest discovery to find only her son at home. There is something off at home, she finds out how off a few hours later. Strange things start to pile up. Her husband is missing, there is a gun at home and their surveillance system seems to have crashed. The police and some high power people are all involved in something shady. The highlight of the tale are the people themselves. No one is as they seem. Each person is not defined by individual actions but all of them as a collective group. It was refreshing to read about people who we can read about and imagine without cringing. They aren't perfect but they are believable.
I read very few books in the suspense or mystery genre, but this one sounded interesting with the inclusion of astronomy in the story.
I must say I was quite glued to the story, always wondering what would happen next and how the whole story would turn out.
It is about a couple, Sarah Mayfield and her husband Ben, who had been going through a rough patch in their marriage. Sarah is an astronomer and her husband Ben a restaurateur, They also have a teenage son Zack .
Sarah returns from a business trip with NASA, where she talked about a big discovery she had made and finds her husband missing, leaving a million dollars in an old bank account , a gun in her bedside drawer, and a security system that has been wiped dry.
Ben was about to testify in a court trial to do with his restaurant, partners , and missing money.
I don't really want to say too much, but this book was well written with a lot of interesting plots and information. It was a hard book for me to put down. I will definitely check out her other books.
I would like to thank NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for the ARC of this book.
This author can write a book that grabs and won't let go. She's known for adding heart to her novels. This one is about a woman who returns home from a business trip only to discover her husband is missing. Suspense builds from there.
How often do we overlook what's right in front of our eyes?
Dete brings astronomy into this one so for those who love a little science in their mysteries, here you go!
Overall, it's another homerun for Dete Meserve and just a darn good book.
I received an Advance Review Copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
The Space Between is an incredibly beautiful written, fast paced story that will literally pull you in and keep your attention from page 1. "Most things are not as they appear". There is mystery, suspense and some shocking twists in this nail biter.
Sarah returns home from an important business trip to find her husband missing. Few knew the trouble that plagued their marriage. What is revealed is a very twisty story of relations, marriage, and murder.
Dete Meserve is excellent and writing thoughtful, well developed characters. The amount of research that was put into this book is incredible and it shows in Meserve's writing.
I highly reccomend this book to anyone looking for a great book that is so hard to put down!
This is the first one I have read by this author. It is a nice mix of love story, mystery and thriller. It follows the story of a slightly grown apart couple when the husband disappears and then is accused of murder. There are some interesting twists and turns, especially in the last third of the book. I had to push myself through the middle part, but it got better.
