Two people end up renting the same house and, though they can’t stand each other, can’t fight the attraction either. He’s got a doctorate in sociology, which he gave up when his little boy was killed. She’s an accountant building up money to get an advanced degree, and nothing will deviate her from that plan. . . so she thinks.
I wanted to like her, but except for sex and the kite lessons, she’s got a bug so far up her ass she’s just no fun. This is not someone I would want to know in real life, especially when she lets her cat do all the emotionally dirty work for her. Speaking of, this may be the first feline in history I’ve ever liked. (Gimme a break, I’m allergic.) But the cat giveth, and the cat taketh away; it was a silly way to cause the inevitable trouble in the relationship, but plausible, I suppose.
Points off for “orgasmic climax.”
Doesn’t matter how great they may be, because when it comes down to it, they’re both dumb as rocks, lacking in emotional intelligence. His PhD in sociology taught him nothing. Both invented stupid reasons for artificial roadblocks. Up to that point I’d liked this, but the last quarter was a mess.
Even worse, there’s a lot of loose ends. Her lost/stolen money issue is never resolved; she doesn’t even go to the police. With his reluctance to do just that, I thought the slimy lawyer was in on it.
And speaking of that character: what good was he? To make the main guy jealous? To make him look good in her eyes? Or did the author have someone in real life they couldn’t resist throwing in as vicarious revenge?
The ending, or next to ending, I hated. Brought down the score.
This book has a lot of heat but needs more character content. There is so much talk or inter monologue about sex with these characters it is hard to get into this book. Vickie is so uptight and wound up that she doesn't even know how to relax if she tried. Blake is very calm and lives in the moment despite everything that happenin his past he still is trying to love out each day to it's fullest. It's hard to really get anything more from this story but there is plenty of sizzle!
This is really one of those sweat fun loving books where the female character Victoria Templeton, has paid in advance for a summer rental only to find out that it is already occupied by a man named Blake Callahan. He has paid for an entire year and actually knows the owner of the house. After deciding to both stay she believes that he is nothing but a beach bum who enjoys flying kites and surfing. What she does not know until much later is that he has taken a year off from his job because his son was killed and he is having problems moving forward. She is only thinking about work because of her childhood and has never really taken any time to relax, never has even flown a kite. His first goal besides wanting to kiss her is to get her to fly a kite and take time away from her job. She even wants to work on Saturday. Together these two different personalities will try to exist in this home for the summer, but could there be any type of a future for these two? Read this fun story and see if he can get her to fly a kite and anything else.
Summer Sizzle by Samantha Genry. A enjoyable sweet book beach read. Spicy at times, great characters. I look forward to reading more books by this author.
Sorry to say, this book was more like Summer Fizzle. I struggled through this supposedly breezy read. On the surface, it seems like the odd couple romance should have worked. Vicki is uptight and has to have everything planned, Blake is a live-in-the-moment type of guy. Sparks should have flown. But she was rude and obnoxious, and didn’t deserve him. I so wanted to root for him to have happiness, but Vicki was just not likeable enough.
I also had an issue with this being labeled erotica. I like a good erotica novel as much as the next gal. But good erotica should take awhile to build. There’s an attraction, some friction, they fight the attraction, and eventually it all combusts. To be blunt, there were hard and/or gushing parts not even 2 pages in, and that just wasn’t exciting. It wasn’t erotic, it seemed to actually be gratuitous. Add that to the actual lack of chemistry, and it just wasn’t good. I’m giving this two stars instead of only one because the premise had promise and Blake was a decent character.
Summer Sizzle had potential, it just didn't live up to it.
Victoria finds out she's been suckered into paying advance rent on a house the agency had no rights to rent out. So when she shows up at the rental and a man is already inhabiting it, what is she to do? Thankfully, the rightful renter has a big heart, and allows her to stay at the house while she figures out what to do. And soon she finds she can't resist tumbling into bed with Blake, even though he's the exact opposite of the kind of man she wants to be with.
And this right here, is where the story lost me and never got me back. I found Victoria to be a heinous person. She was a snobby wench, looking down her nose on Blake without even bothering to get to know him or try to find out if he really was the bum she thought he was. Not to mention, hello, was she stupid or something because he was obviously paying rent on the same house she was suckered into paying for in advance, where did she think he got that money? From the money tree in his backyard? So she was stupid and a snobby witch, not good, not good at all. Even when she'd lecture herself on her inappropriate behavior as she called it, she'd still turn around and say something rude AGAIN to Blake, and kept doing it, throughout the story! It drove me bonkers.
About the only thing in Summer Sizzle that I could stand is Blake. Without him, I'd have 1-starred this for sure. I liked him, he was sweet and sexy, just had a broken heart from his loss. Too bad he wasn't paired with someone worthy of him.
Victoria Templeton has every detail of her life planned, she believes in hard work and goals to get where she wants to be. This is in direct opposition to Blake Callahan’s philosophy of life which is ‘live for today because who knows what tomorrow will bring?’ Unfortunately Victoria needs to share her summer house with Blake due to a mix up. Its interesting to see how they mix up and cope with their differences.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own
Victoria and Blake. Two very different points of view. and lots of chemistry. A quick hot and sexy romance between two people that have nothing in common. Overall I enjoyed the read, and it is quick if you are looking for an easy summer read. A few minor things left unknown, and obviously quick read means quick everything. Other than that though, still enjoyable and would recommend.
