I've enjoyed reading the Life of Moses that I requested and received from Net Galley. Read on a Kindle this book has been very informative on the life of Moses. One of the Key prophets of God in the Old testament. Leading his people out of Egypt into the desert, The Ten commandments, The plagues of Egypt, James Montgomery Boice does a magnificent job of explaining The Life of Moses in a fun easy to read yet informative book. I would highly recommend. After reading the book I've discovered that I will remember what he said for a long time. I know most of these narratives but he explains the book in a style that is fun to read. As it should be he is able to connect how Moses life is connected with our daily life and the reasons why Moses relationship to God as well as our relationship to God are important. Very well written and highly recommend if you have an interest in the Exodus story.

JMB does a great Job going through the texts that speak to the life of Moses, his challenges, his character, and God's character and influence as well. You get a well organized run through, along with a good historical background survey, topped off by application.

Well worth the read.

This book is excellent and it enabled me to delve deeper into understanding the character and ministry of Moses. I found it very easy to read and understand. The first half of the book centres on the book of Exodus and the second on the books of Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. Although this is a book about Moses it constantly leads us back to the power and trustworthy nature of God and also helps us apply The Gospel to our life today. This is the first commentary I have read by James Montgomery Boice but it won’t be the last! I received a free copy of this book from P & R Publishing in exchange for an honest review. A favourable review was not required and all opinions expressed here are my own.

"The Life of Moses" is a Bible study of Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy based on a sermon series given by the author. The first half focused on Exodus and the second half was divided between Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. While the author spent most of his time on the narrative portions of the text, he did summarize the laws, rituals, and such. He explained how the various sacrifices and feasts point to Jesus and how the New Testament refers back to specific verses.

In each chapter, the author took a section of verses and summarized them. He provided background context and pointed out insights. He drew out principles that apply to our lives, but he also focused on what we learn about God from those verses. When he talked about symbolism in an object or person, he focused on what the New Testament authors point out as divinely intended symbolism.

The text was easy to read but stayed focused on the text and didn't get sidetracked into entertaining stories. Overall, I felt that this was a solid study. I'd highly recommend it, especially to Christians who are unfamiliar with these books of the Bible.
