This was my first book by Emma Scott. I really enjoyed it! Willow and Isaac were a wonderful couple and I loved their relationship. I will definitely be picking up more of Emma Scott in the future!
As always, Emma Scott delivered. Isaac is the bad boy underdog you can't help but root for. Angsty and emotional, this book tugged at my heartstrings.
I love Emma Scott! She can do no wrong in writing swoon worthy romance books. Emotional, tragic, and flaming romance - In harmony is about a girl name Willow who is moved to a small town after her father uproots them from NYC. Gone is the glamour, in with the country. Willow has a had time adjusting but when she auditions on a whim for Ophelia she gets it. This changes her life. Now she’s in the sphere of bad boy Issac and their romance really goes thru a rollercoaster. Great novel.
MY HEART!
My heart is absolutely exploding with love for In Harmony. Emma Scott, you tear my heart out every time and then thankfully put it back together again. I could not rave enough about this beautiful story, these incredible words but ya know what? I’m going to try!
From the prologue I knew instantly that I was in for an emotional rollercoaster. Willow’s story had me hooked from the start. Beautiful, tortured, trying so hard to be a normal teenage girl. Moving to Harmony Indiana from New York City was her chance to start over and I was rooting for her every step of the way. I loved the friendships she made, the courage she found.
I especially loved the heart throb bad boy that flew into her life. Isaac Pearce. I know, I know, I talk about way too many book boyfriends but I am telling you, Isaac Pearce…the ULTIMATE book boyfriend. I fell hard for this man and I am going to keep everything about him a little secret because he is a gem you want to find for yourself!
I just finished this and I already want to re-read it. If that doesn’t tell you how much I truly loved In Harmony then I don’t know what else will. You have to experience this small town, these amazing characters (main & side). I promise you won’t be disappointed and you will be demanding more just because you loved all of it!
This will defiantly go down in my top romances and if you haven’t read In Harmony or if you haven’t read anything by Emma Scott, I am here to tell you that you need to! I think you will fall in love just like I did :)
Wow, what a remarkable story.
Even though Willow changes school in the middle of the senior year, she thinks of it as something good. She comes to Harmony to heal after a traumatic event. Full of secrets, without friends and with a family that doesn’t understand her she auditions for Hamlet to lose herself in the hundred-year-old words.
In school, she finds drawn to a town bad boy, Isaac. He’s the quiet boy that doesn’t talk much but is well known for his role in theater’s plays.
Isaac is broken too, in his own way. He sees something in Willow, something they have in common.
When they both get parts in Hamlet, they started to get to know each other and with that comes the secrets, the past and a wonderful story about two lost souls.
I truly recommend this well-written story because you will get lost in this story too. I read Hamlet in high school and I got to know more about the meaning of the words in this book. I was so pulled to the story, I cried at the end of it. It’s a story full of emotions, heartache but also love.
4,5 ”The love was there first” stars.
(I wanted to know more about Isaac’s story, why he didn’t talk for less than a year that’s why half star less…)
Emma Scott has a way with words. She always manages to draw the reader in from the get go. This is short and sweet because I don't want to give spoilers, but trust me, this one is a must read.
This was a heart warming, but at the same time a tear jerker of a story. I loved every second of it!! Emma Scott never disappoints
Emma Scott has not disappointed with any of her books that I have read and this certainly is no different. Heart wrenching, angst, and emotional are adjectives I would use to describe this book. Basically any book she writes as well.
You have two main characters who are battling two different things in their lives but somehow find each other through the darkness. I don’t want to give too much away concerning their battles but they are certainly major topics in today’s society. So, if you have any triggers, I’d suggest reading cautiously. With that said, this book is still absolutely amazing.
The writing just flies off the pages like you are right there. I’ve never really been in a play but I could picture myself up on that stage just like they were. Emma Scott has such a talent of really making you feel the emotions along with the setting.
The only “negative” thing I can say about this book is the endearment of “baby” is used and I am just one of those people who can’t stand that. For some reason, I don’t mind “babe” but “baby” is just weird to me and I don’t care for it. Like I said previously, that is just my preference.
Another great one by Emma Scott 🙂
Poor Willow is holding a painful secret from her uptight and slightly neglectful parents. Her family's move to Harmony, Indiana is a chance to try to start her life over and forget her past. Seeing the bad boy in school, Isaac, in the town play gave her new perspective on not just him but on herself.
My heart broke for Isaac and Willow and their sweet but also tragically sad love story. I spent moments hating Willow's snooty parents with their judgemental thoughts and unwarranted hate for Isaac just because he was poor and his father was known as the town drunk. Thankfully, Willow and Isaac have supportive people in their lives or this story would be just as tragic as a Shakespeare play. This story's HEA is so sweetly written that I can't wait to read another book from this author.
At sixteen, Willow is the victim of a traumatic encounter. She can't get past it and lives in a self imposed bubble. A year later, her parents uproot her senior year of high school in Manhattan and moves to Harmony, Indiana. It is culture shock for sure. All nineteen year old Issac wants to do is leave his home town of Harmony and the poverty and sorrow that has been his life since the death of his mother eleven years prior. Her death leaves him closed off with no real friends and a sad, tragic life. Willow and Issac meet when she transfers to George Mason High School, but they do not get along. Chosen to act together in a local play, their lives soon imitate the characters they portray, Hamlet and Ophelia. The parallels of their stories can only be a tragedy, right?
I was enthralled with this book and devoured it in one day. An absolute Must Read.
It is full of all the feels that will leave you with a book hangover.
I really enjoyed this story of star crossed love - it certainly created more interest in theatre. I did not like her parents at all but I suppose that was meant to be! I would highly recommend this book to teens/new adults.
Always love a book by Emma and she never ever disappoints. Case in point, this book was a superb read. Any true fan of a good romance should pick this up.
Once again, Emma Scott has made me cry.
I knew this would be an emotional story. Both the hero and the heroine of this story were broken and suffering due to their circumstances. Willow was weighted down by the secret of her sexual assault, and Isaac was fighting to survive his father's physical abuse. This stuff was heavy and my heart broke and ached for both of them. Yet, Scott managed to infused this story with light and hope. It may have come in waves, but it was there.
One of the beautiful things Scott did was give both Willow and Isaac wonderful support systems. Isaac was lucky to find Martin and Brenda, who became his surrogate parents. They were there for him whenever he needed them, and gave him love unconditionally. It's hard to imagine what sort of man he would have become with them in his life.
Willow was lucky enough, that Angie took her under her wing when she first moved to Harmony. Angie became her best friend, biggest cheerleader, and her confidant. She gave without asking for anything, and supported Willow without expecting explanations. Angie's mother, Bonnie, was also a godsend. She was a therapist, who played a large role in Willow's recovery.
I also liked Willow's path to recovery. She was not saved by the boy. He supported her, along with a few others, but she saved herself. She found her inner strength, her voice, and her fire. It was a tough journey, and it was never depicted as easy or quick, and I appreciated how realistic it came across.
There were quite a few surprises in this story as well. I was not expecting some of the events, which went down regarding the assault to transpire that way, but I was happy about it. I didn't think Scott would take Willow's parents in the direction she did either, but again, I was happy with the way she handled that situation.
This book was a love story, but it was also about the healing power of connection and finding your inner strength. It was about believing it was never too late and not closing yourself off to possibilities. And it was about love, which can endure and last.
In Harmony is a complex and interesting read by Emma Scott.
Willow is stuck moving to Harmony during her senior year of high school. Her parents have been worried about her, as she has totally changed recently, withdrawing from all her friends, and they don't know why.
Ends up that Willow was raped. She hasn't told anyone and the pain and suffering are slowly killing her. As Willow would say, she's lost in the darkness.
This part is written in an exceptional manner, told spectacularly and in a completely riveting manner. The way that the darkness is used as a description for her depression is accomplished.
In Harmony, Willow meets Isaac, a boy from the wrong side of the tracks who has a bad reputation. Isaac is a wonderfully complex character who's been extremely hardened by his experiences. His backstory is well developed, and the symbolism of his silence is perfectly executed.
As for their relationship, somehow they both help each other to slowly open up again. Isaac starts talking to her, and befriends her, which is something he never does. Willow starts to heal, with the help of Isaac and her friends. They all start to slowly pull Willow out of her darkness, as they help her change her thinking and values.
The author does an outstanding job of having Willow and Isaac paralleling their characters in their Shakespeare play. It's impressive, thought-provoking and down-right wonderful.
Overall, their story is one of the power and privilege that's afforded to the wealthy versus the prejudice and lack of control of the poor.
Willow and Isaac have a strong love that manages to heal two extremely broken hearts, helping them to find strength within themselves and the meaning in their lives.
In Harmony is absolutely superb. These two characters are so well told, and their story is absolutely amazing. Emma Scott does an exquisite job with this story. It has excellent character and story development, complicated characters who are so damn lovable, and a whole lot of heart. I love this book!
Emma Scott never fails to amaze me with her writing. In a harmony was absolutely perfect and I could not put it down.
This was my first read from Emma Scott, and absolutely will not be my last. This was a truly beautiful story. The prologue was absolutely incredible and pulled you straight into the book. I did not want to put it down at all. The whole story was beautifully written, with characters that will stay with me for a very long time. My heart broke for Willow and Isaac. They had terrible things happen to them, and awful parents. This one gave me ALL the feelings, and I would highly recommend this book to everyone.

How do you even begin to rate a book that practically shook your entire life? But to be fair this book deserves ninety five thousand billion stars because ISAAC PEARCE!!
At the mere ago of seventeen, Williow's life was torn apart, her power and her being snatched by a monster. Now all she is left with night terrors and PTSD that her body remembers even if her mind doesn't. When her family is suddenly uprooted from NYC to a small town called, Harmony, Williow feels this might be the perfect new start. When she sees auditions for the community theater's production of Hamlet, she signs up for the role of Ophelia. Something inside of hers believes that this play will play a huge part in her healing process and she listens to that voice with all her heart.
Isaac Pearce is the town's bad boy. Girls flock to him like bees do to flowers but he rarely pays them any attention. His sole focus is to make it big as an actor and leave this sad town of Harmony behind. He channels all his pain into his performances which brings out his raw and phenomenal talent, leaving people enthralled. He doesn't need any distraction specially none that come in the form of the most beautiful girl he's ever seen. He sees the darkness in her eyes and his heart wants to comfort her heart.
Isaac and Willow find themselves playing Hamlet and Ophelia, the two tragic lovers and staying apart is now out of the question. Will their story end in the same kind of tragedy or is their love destined for more?
Y'all I died a little while reading this book and then was resurrected because Emma Scott is a freaking literary genius.
My heart broke for Willow is more ways than I can count. I was sad, scared and angry with her. She deserved so much more than this cruel World. I love love love the way she decided to take her power back. It was beyond admirable and GOD HELP ME I love this woman to death.
Okay now can we talk about ISAAC?!?!?!
Because I have too many feelings and I NEED TO GET THEM OUT.
SERIOUSLY!!! How freaking mind blowingly great Isaac was?
I have heart eyes and horny heart. Not even going to lie rn.
I am in stupid love with this man and his thoughts because how can someone be so pure, good, sexy, adorkable, dirty and tortured at the same time?? I had goosebumps just reading him as a Shakespearean hero so I imagine I would have had heart palpitations if I could ever see him perform.
This is the kind of book that you need to read again and again and then once more because that's how important it is. Emma Scott has a forever fan in me now and man I am stating it out that this woman can do no wrong. EVER!!!!
5* Forbidden Stars
Willow and Isaac are brought together when both of them are at their lowest in life and victims of unimaginable tragedy. Together they have to face the harsh obstacles that are presented to them. It is a very realistic and emotional book; you will feel deep sadness as well as a love that is unbreakable.
The characters in the book were well developed and very likeable, you can’t help falling in love with most of them. I loved reading the quirky sayings on Angie’s shirts throughout the book.
The story of Willow and Isaac was heartfelt and will hold you hostage until the last page is read. It was beautifully written and it is a must read for any romantic.
Many thanks to Emma Scott, the Publisher and NetGalley for making this book available for me to read and review.
I’ve been wanting to read an Emma Scott novel for quite some time now. I was happy to receive an e-arc of her novel ‘In Harmony’ since the synopsis of the book looked really impressing. So thanks to the publisher and net galley for providing me with this arc, in exchange of me leaving an honest review on the book.
What did I think? What did I feel?
I’m thinking that this was one hell of a rollercoaster read. I’m feeling overwhelmed and grateful for having had the chance of reading this book. This reading experience
I was trying to prepare myself to reading this book, since I came across other reviews saying this would become a very intense and emotional reading experience. So I kept waiting for the moment everything changes for the worse. And in the case of Willow and Isaac it gets bad, so prepare yourself hihi. But there’s definitely some good to be found as well and those moments of good are so worth the heart palpations and the tears.
felt so sorry for what happened to Willow. Not only the event itself, but especially the aftermath of it all. The fact she didn’t tell a soul made it so much worse. And Isaac had me just as emotional. He has his own ‘scars’, but that doesn’t stop him from wanting a better life for himself and I love characters like him who try to fight for a better future.
Willow and Isaac are so incredibly sweet together and my heart broke for them at times, my heart was so full of love for them at times. Such a beautiful, tragic and well developed romance.
And in the end, was it worth the heartbreak you experience while reading it all? You’ll have to find out for yourself because as of now, I’ll be only telling you that you have to pick up this book and read it! I won’t ever stop trying to recommend this book to anyone who’s into romance stories who tend to leave you a puddle of fangirl mess, sobbing on the floor because you’ve just experienced one of the most beautiful reading experiences of your life.
*Thank you NetGalley and Emma Scott for this copy in exchange for an honest review.*
“I thought I was lost, but he brought me back. He allowed me to find my way back to myself.”
I like books that make me feel something. Those are really the special ones in my opinion. The ones that will stay with you for a long time after you’ve finished it. The ones you’ll remember with a smile on your face. ‘In Harmony’ is definitely in this category.
Willow Holloway went through something so traumatic, I can’t even describe it. And she feels broken inside. Her dad is being transfered because of his job and her family moves to a city called Harmony. But the least she wants to do is start over during her senior year of high school. Then she meets Isaac Pierce. Suddenly life doesn’t feel hopeless after all.
Isaac also has a very traumatic past. He lives with his alcoholic dad on a trailer, living one day at a time, one thing on his mind, one goal set: leave Harmony and the memories behind. Until he meets Willow. They both start working together for the community theater’s production of Hamlet.
So many things happen, so many pain, agony, sadness, it’s a rollercoaster of emotions throughout the whole book, I couldn’t put it down until I was done reading.
Strong points for me: - Willow’s best friend Angie and her mother;
- Willow and Isaac were both amazing characters as well;
- The connection between the Hamlet play and real life events;
- Book playlist, especially Shawn Mendes’s song Imagination.
