Somerhow, Jill Lepore manages to fit the entire messy, complicated history of this country in one volume. Looking at the basic arguments of our founding fathers and the darker side of history, she also how our choices as a nation have created the divide we see in this country today. This should be required reading for every US History class in every high school.

“These Truths” by Jill LePore is a book that anyone interested in American History or politics will want to have in their library. It is the type of book one will want to make notes in and go back to frequently. To cover our history from discovery to Trump in one volume would be a difficult task, in itself, but to end up with a book that is as entertaining as it is informative is an amazing feat. LePore covers history we are familiar with but also adds details not usually found in our history texts and these tidbits of information provide texture and context to help us understand the past and guide us as we consider the future.
