This was a cute picture book explaining why the chicken is related to the dinosaur. It was a cute concept and the pictures were great. I think even though there aren't a ton of facts, kids will enjoy it.
Dinosaur books are pretty much a guaranteed win with the picture book set. THis one has a dose of humor, helping it along, and introduces a handful of facts.
A cute scrapbook design about the different types of dinosaurs. This was a well thought out book with lots of creative tidbits of information that will entertain the children and the reader too! I love that this is the type of book my teenager would read to her younger siblings because of the way the information is presented!
'The Truth About Dinosaurs' by Guido Van Genechten is a picture book for kids about dinosaurs presented as a family album.
On the first page, we meet a chicken. The chicken is accosted by a worm and accused of being in the wrong story. The chicken then shows its family album showing how dinosaurs were like chicken. From feet to feathers to eggs, the similarities. The book ends with the chicken sitting on a very large egg. I wonder what is inside?
I liked this cute kids book. The chicken font was a bit small, but the illustrations are fun. It's a fun book for kids who like dinosaurs, or to introduce young ones to the big creatures.

I received an Advanced Reader Copy from Clavis Publishing for my unbiased opinion of the book. What a cute story! I loved the chicken and how it went through the dinosaur’s history. I will be purchasing this for my great nephew in October. The writing and graphics are great!

Terrific artwork in a collage, scrapbook style! The story is of a chicken - its the chicken's scrapbook - showing how it evolved from dinosaurs. I think the book will be picked up by a lot of kids due to the dinosaur name, but may be a disappointment due there being little actual content. A quick read with great graphics. 3 stars.
This book was alright for me. Neat idea but it didn't draw the kiddos in. Maybe I will try again when they get older.
I swear the 'I'm-totally-obsessed-with-dinosaurs' phase biologically just kicks in at around 5-6 years old. So I've been on the look out for dinosaur books, but preferably funny, dinosaur, picture books to contrast the academic type sources. This one from Netgalley looked adorable and funny and anything that starts with "THE TRUTH..." makes me wonder.
This chicken is in the wrong story! Oh wait, maybe it's not. Follow along with this (maybe) chicken as she shows us her family photo album of her long past relatives, the dinosaurs.
This book is super cute and touches on a couple of popular dinosaurs that kids know and love in the form of an illustrated scrapbook. Marriage licenses, ultrasounds, family photos, it's not your average academic style dino book, which was exactly what I was looking for.
It's an easy to read book that isn't too long. It's well composed and balanced between the amount of words to a page and the number of pages and the illustrations follow the story perfectly.
This book is a good one for story-times or to pair with an art project for sure, since it mixes dinosaurs with an art form (scrapbooking) and I can't wait to do a day plan with it!
A chicken walks readers through its family history to prove that they are descended from dinosaurs. Family resemblances include has similar feet and feathers, in addition to that whole egg-hatching business. Presented as a family album, The Truth About Dinosaurs is a fun introduction to dino science for readers, with an accessible illustration of evolution from dinosaur to modern-day birds, and ends with the chicken hatching a rather large dino egg. Guido van Genecthen uses earth tones and his cartoony look to make non-threatening dinosaurs, and the green chicken is an amusing host to the book. The scrapbook features BC dates when showing off the "family photos" throughout history, and each dinosaur's weight appears on tags that look like amusement part tickets. It's a cute, additional add for your dino collections.

This book is adorable. A chicken is showing how they are related to dinosaurs. The art is beautiful and I think any child will love this book. Well written, cute, and definitely full of fun.

What Momma thinks:
This is a really cute book about learning about dinosaurs. It teaches kids about how the chickens are descended from dinosaurs.
It has some really great facts about dinosaurs, and how much they weigh and what they eat. It doesn't have a whole lot of information but it does have some really great stuff.
It did have cute illustrations and the writing is well done. Either way it's a cute book about dinosaurs.
I didn't look to find the age range that this book is intended for, but it feels like maybe 5 or 6. My 3 year old grandson loves dinosaurs so he enjoyed the pictures but the educational aspects were over his head. He knew the names of most of the dinosaurs so he really liked that part. It is a fun book with colorful illustrations.
A truly funny tour through the world of dinosaurs as led by a little chicken. The plucky guy explains how they’re related by sharing the ancient family photo album to point out similarities. Kids will love the winsome illustrations and quirky method of learning about extinct beasts ... and adults will get a kick out of it too. Why, it says it’s for anyone 4 to 250 million years old — and that would be me! 5/5

The chicken in this story is so proud of her dinosaur ancestors. This is a fun book for dinosaur lovers. I like that the book makes the connection between dinosaurs and birds. The end is fun!
The chicken included on the cover of the book is convinced that she is a descendant of dinosaurs and she has the proof right in her scrapbook.
The narrator refers to Ms. Chicken as ... well as a...chicken and she gets terribly offended. She declares she is a dinosaur and proudly declares that she is not a mere chicken but a GALLUS GALLUS DOMESTICUS! The narrator is not one bit convinced of that declaration so the indignant hen rushes off to get solid evidence and vindicate herself.
She thumbs through her family heirloom photo album and points out to the reader the similarities found between the two. She and the Velociraptors have the same feet, feathers and both cannot fly. The Iguanodons lays eggs.... see?... just like she does.
" The Stegosauruses are my favorite relatives. Aren't they great?
We look a lot alike, don't you think?
My grandpa told me that Stegosaurus loved to eat plants.
I wonder if they liked corn as much as I do!'
After the book tour she struts off and climbs aboard a humongous egg.
"I have an egg to hatch.
Maybe it will be a cute little Triceratops chicken.
Or a sweet Dipolodocus...
Wait a second...
Could it be...?"
Four weeks later she gets her answer... and it's not quite what she was expecting! Oh my!!! SHE HAD BETTER RUN...............!
The illustrations are amazing and full of detail, emotion and activity. Factual information is embedded into the story and "tickets" are attached to weigh in the poundage of each dinosaur featured.
If your child is a dinosaur lover this book will be a winner. A fun and informative book to add to your collection.
Chickens are dinosaurs.
Having grown up around the cheeky omnivores I couldn't agree more.
The illustrations are adorable as our chicken narrator guides us thru the family scrapbook in a quick trip down memory lane. A trip to a time when dinosaurs roamed the earth.
A fun read the the early grades and something that might be a gateway book to learning more about prehistoric life or even chickens.
What's a chicken doing on the cover of a book about dinosaurs? Using her family photo album with pictures of her ancestors, the chicken (or Gallus gallus domesticus) explains to the reader that she descends from dinosaurs.
The Truth About Dinosaurs is the creation of Flemish children's book illustrator Guido van Genechten, author and illustrator of The Cuddle Book. The art is made up of a collage of different textures and colours, reminiscent of the work of Eric Carle (author and illustrator of the children's classic, The Very Hungry Caterpillar). It's a fun way to start to get across the idea of evolution to young children and would be suitable for kids aged 4 and up.

A modern-day chicken tries to prove it’s actually a dinosaur, and in the process gives a lesson on actual dinos. It’s all done through the similarity of feet and a photo album, but don’t worry about there not being cameras to shoot the dinosaurs back then; after all, this story’s told by a talking chicken.
Dinosaur eggs look like gemstones.
This one got me with a line in the blurb: “For curious people from 4 up to 250 million years old.”
Silly, but educational.
3.5 pushed up to 4/5
This is a story that takes it back. Waaaay back, to when dinosaurs roamed the Earth. With a little help from the dinosaurs closest living cousin, the chicken. Told in a photo album format, this story will have your kids (or students) cracking up (and I'm not just talking about the eggs). This is great gift for your favorite dinosaur lovers.
Why would a chicken think it’s a dinosaur?? While the storyline is cute, I thinks it’s a little advanced for the younger end of the age bracket suggested. Tho the illustrations are right on point, adorable and age appropriate.
