Death and Daisies is the second book in the Magic Garden Mystery series. I did not read the first book in the series, but had no problem following the story in this book. Death and Daisies is a cute cozy mystery about Fiona Knox - she inherited her godfather's Scottish cabin and garden which carries a bit of magic. Knox is trying to find her footing in her new home when a prominent figure in her village is murdered and she is right in the middle of it. Flower kept the story moving at a good pace and I was surprised by the ending! I look forward to reading the next book in this series.

3.5 stars

This is the second installment in Flowers’ “A Magic Garden Mystery” series, but it can easily stand alone.

Fiona is planning to open her flower shop, and most of the locals are happy to have her. However, that’s not the case for the local minister, though Fiona doesn’t fully understand his disdain for her. When he turns up dead, Fiona worries that she’ll become a suspect, so she launches her own investigation. Can she find the real killer before she finds herself behind bars?

Fiona’s sister Isla shows up in this book, which is a nice addition, as it adds another layer to Fi’s story. There is just a hint of magic in this book, so don’t assume this will be a supernatural novel. The characters and setting are charming. Fans of cozy mysteries will want to add this to their TBR pile.

This is the first book I have read by Amanda Flower and it was delightful. 'Death and Daisies' was both whimsical and intense, with an expert mystery. The characters were realistically written, and the paranormal aspects didn't detract as much as I thought they might from the believability of the story. There are twist and turns and wonderful descriptions of Scotland, thrown in with romance. I'm going back to get the first in the series and look forward to many more!

I adore Amanda Flower and even though I hadn’t read the first book in the series I couldn’t pass up the chance to review a book written by Amanda Flower. I loved this book and it’s delightful characters. It was intriguing, had a great mystery, and definitely left me wanting more. Can’t wait to read more in this series and see how the characters continue to grow.

She's opening up a new flower shop and is anxiously awaiting opening day. It's awful inconvenient when the local minister is found dead on the same day...

Crooked Lane Books and Net Galley let me read this book for review (thank you). It will be published November 23rd.

He'd already threw her out of church and publicly embarrassed her. He's been in the store once causing trouble. But she didn't kill him. So who did?

As she snoops about she gets closer to the truth and she starts getting threatening notes. The killer wants her to back off. Her boyfriend wants her to back off. Does she? No.

But then she gets too close and she has bullets whizzing by her. Will she manage to stay alive? Read the book and see...

Death and Daisies is the second book in the Magic Garden Mystery series by Amanda Flower. I read and loved the first book in the series and this one was even better. So much more happens to the main character, Fiona Knox, and the supporting characters around her than just the murder mystery. Of course, the murder mystery was clever and kept me guessing almost until the very end. But I honestly just love the characters and the stories that go on around them. This is the 3rd mystery series that I'm hooked on by Amanda Flower. She has a knack for creating characters that are not just likable, but also relatable. It's easy to want to see Fiona succeed in her business and personal relationships because the author makes her feel like a real person. I truly think that this series isn't just for mystery lovers, but also for those who love to read women's fiction because it's not just about the mystery. It's also about who Fiona is as a person, her heritage, and who she wants to be in the future. And, yes, there's even romance involved for multiple characters. The ending of Death and Daisies has me so looking forward to the next book in this series. I can't wait to see what happens next.

Note: I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of this book in exchange for my fair and honest review.

The second in the series and it was just as enjoyable as the first. This series has immediately likable characters, it also has a magical garden and is set in Scotland with a delicious Scottish police detective. Hello! What's not to like? This book delved into the MC's background more and is making her even more interesting. Looking forward to the next in the series. Huge thanks go the NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

Opening day of Fiona’s Climbing Rose Florist Shop in her new Scottish hometown is disrupted when. local minister is found dead and she is a suspect. Well constructed plot with interesting supporting characters ,make this a great read. Author has included sufficient background in this 2nd book in Magic Garden Mystery series so that it is enjoyable .
My only recommendation is to integrate more of the magical elements into the storyline because that is what sets this series apart from other cozy mysteries.
Thank you NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for an advanced digital copy.

Fiona is opening a flower shop in Bellewick. Isla, Fiona’s sister has come to stay for the summer and is helping Fiona with the shop. Isla is also acting a bit secretive.
The minister stops by to give Fiona grief the day before the opening. There is a storm that night and the next afternoon the minister is found dead down at the beach.
While it is a relief to me to not have the minister around being mean to Fiona, it’s a good part of the story because Fiona feels like she is a suspect again since the minister was threatening in some of his interactions with her. The murderer wasn’t someone I suspected, but in hindsight I could see why it was this person. Other things I suspected about Fiona and her family did turn out true and I think they will be delved into further in future books.
I like the characters and the village in Scotland and the magical garden. This is a good second book for this new cozy mystery series.

I struggled a little bit with Death and Daisies. I found the beginning a little bit like watching grass grow. Fiona inherited her godfather's Scottish cabin and his magical garden. I definitely was expecting more garden and magic than what this book delivers. Fiona spends very little time in her actual flower shop. A bit of an outsider, Fiona is an American and stands out in the crowd. The local minister loathes her and her garden even going far enough to ban her from the church. So naturally when he turns up murdered, Fi begins to investigate and the church seems to be at the center of the mystery. The chief inspector show interest in Fi and add a little touch of romance to the story. This book was just okay for me and just plods along at a sedate pace. The end was somewhat better than the beginning but I doubt I will read anymore books in this series. A 2.5 star read rounded up. My voluntary, unbiased review is base upon a review copy from Netgalley.

This is the second in the Magic Garden mystery series and I will be honest I just love everything this author writes. Fiona Knox is still in Scotland after receiving an inheritance of a magical walled garden and cottage from her godfather Ian. Her sister Isla is visiting for the summer after finishing college and is helping Fiona open her own flower shop called the Climbing Rose Flower Shop in Aberdeenshire. Fiona was rejected at the front door of the local church as the minister MacCullen stops her from entering. She then has a run in with the minister again before she opens her shop. Then the day of her shop opening they learn the minister has been killed down at the shore after a terrible storm the night before. Inspector Craig is investigating and Fiona feels she needs to help as she is a suspect given the obvious dislike the minister had for her. Fiona has a good group of friends in Raj and his sister Presha and romances is blossoming with the inspector Craig and it appears her sister is sticking around since she is dating Hamish’s great nephew Seth. I am looking forward to the next in this series as something I have suspected has been hinted at the very end. Talk about a cliff hanger.

Death and Daisies, the second installation in the Magic Garden Mysteries series by Amanda Flower, was a bit of a conundrum. There was a mystery woven into the story – who killed the most disagreeable minister – but it seemed to take a second seat to the story of Fiona, the main character.

She has recently moved to Scotland from just outside Nashville, TN. Her sister, Isla, has turned up on her door with plans to stay for the summer. Fiona is in the midst of trying to launch a new flower shop while sorting out her late godfather’s things and assuming the role of “Keeper of the Garden”.

The story was meant to be “magical” and while there was some mention of it, the magic part of the story never really got off the ground. A fox who appears to be her late godfather and a menhir stone that imparts visions of the future – once – were all the nods to magic in the story although hints towards expansion of the theme in future installations of the series.

Personally, I do not like supernatural books. This one, perhaps, is the exception to the rule. I did enjoy reading it. It was an easy read. Would have been wonderful if we had a rainy day to curl up in a chair with a cup of tea and read in a sitting. It is that kind of cozy book. The characters are comfortable, although there is room for development of some off the characters who come of quite two dimensional as a result.

While supernatural is not my thing, I expect I will look forward to reading the next installation. Ms. Flower tells a good tale. Her prose is enjoyable and the characters are inviting as new friends.

A thirty something American woman moves to a small Scottish coastal town to get a fresh start in life. Fiona Knox left Nashville,Tennessee after being betrayed by her unfaithful fiance and the failure of her flower shop business there. Although she has been in the Scottish town for only a few months, she has needed to play amateur detective twice because of suspicious deaths in the community. This book is the story of the second Fiona Knox murder investigation.
The story begins with the local church minister attempting to ostracize Fiona from the church. She inherited a property with a "magical" garden and the minister seems to resent this. He bars her from the church, sends threatening letters and confronts her in her new flower shop. When he turns up dead after a savage storm, Fiona fears she will be seen as a prime suspect in his death, which is soon deemed to be a murder.
The story has the usual traits of a cozy mystery: a small town environment with several eccentric characters, for example the local policeman, the old men who hang out on the town pier and the elderly church sexton. The chief inspector in charge of the murder investigation is a romantic interest for Fiona, something she seems oblivious to. Her visiting sister, a recent college graduate, is an anchor to her past life in America. There's some red herring side stories that seem to fizzle out in the end, but make interesting reading and add depth to some of the small town characters.
The story is "easy-to-enjoy", flowing along smoothly and coming to a satisfying conclusion. There's also the set-up for a sequel to this entry in the series. This book can stand alone, although there's plenty of hints about the first story in the series and they may pique interest in reading it.
Thanks to Crooked Lane Books and Netgalley for providing an advanced reading copHy of the book. The views expressed are my own.

Death and Daisies is the second floral Magical Garden Mystery book. Fiona Knox inherits a cottage in Scotland. She moves there and is planning to open her new Climbing Rose Flower Shop when a dead body shows up. I enjoyed reading this book. You will too if you like seaside villages in Scotland and magical gardens. Charming characters and a solid plot. This book had a lot of tension as well as twists and turns. Very well done. Thank you to Net Galley for sending me an advanced reader’s copy.

Oh nice ending! I like that the ending was as soon as the guilty party was named. The Epilogue covered all the rest. Now why don't more authors do that? I really did not feel like Fiona was butting in with endless questions. It was more like a new town resident getting to know the town members. After all, she is an American that inherited property in a foreign country. I thought the book was interesting. I liked it.

Death and Daisies is the second book in this series by Amanda Flower.
I really enjoyed this book much more than the first.
Fiona is settling into her new life and is preparing for the opening of her flower shop.
Her sister Isla is visiting and she definitely adds a bit of excitement to the story.
When snubbed by the local minister, Fiona is outraged, not understanding why he is so against her.
When murder hits the small town, Fiona ad's questions, putting her in harm's way.
I enjoyed getting to know the characters in this intriguing cozy mystery. Each one brings their own unique style to the story, making it an engaging story from beginning to end.
I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
I volunteered to read and review an ARC of this book provided by the publisher and NetGalley.

Fiona Knox is now the Keeper of the magical garden in Duncreigan, Scotland which she inherited from her godfather. Her love of flowers is also expanding now to a flower shop in the village. Storms are brewing literally and figuratively so when the village minister is found murdered the morning after he and Fiona had a"disagreement" Fiona feels that she is under suspicion and decides that she needs to find out what happened.

I absolutely love the setting and characters here and the mystery was entertaining as well. Can't wait for my next visit to the MAGIC GARDEN!

After inheriting her godfather’s cottage and garden in Scotland, Fiona Knox decides to open a flower shop. Her visiting sister is helping her set up when a disgruntled minister visits. He states that he doesn’t trust Fiona and that she is unwelcomed. After a major storm hits, the minister’s body is found. Can Fiona find the truth before she’s arrested for the murder?
This was a great cozy mystery with a paranormal edge. I liked the main character and felt intrigued by the visions she had. I felt that the garden’s secrets were a little frustrating because it was never fully explained. The romance between Fiona and the Chief Inspector was a good interlude between the suspense of the mystery. The plot kept me in the dark and I was surprised by the identity of the murderer. I can’t wait to read the next Magic Garden Mystery. I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from NetGalley and am voluntarily reviewing it.

I did not read the first book in the series but was able to keep up. There were a few "mysteries" to be solved...some I did early on....but did not guess the killer! I also guessed the big reveal. I wish there had been more about the "magic garden" but hopefully that will come in the next installment.

This book took me for a ride! I thought I knew what was happening but I was definitely caught by surprise at some of the revelations. I think there’s still so much more to discover about Duncreigan and Fiona’s role as the Keeper in the books to come.
