I received an ARC of this book free from NetGAlley and the publisher for an honest review.
I loved the overall plot of the book and the thorough research into the history of the times depicted. The only problem was there was too much detail and it slowed the forward pace of the story and at times was just boring, there was also some repetitive parts that slowed it even more. Interesting concept thought and the last 30 percent of the book was really great.
I found myself very intrigued by this story. Filled with historical references to actual WWII events and characters with a very unique, to me, twist. Our main character and his supporting cast are all original creations, however, as we move along and get into the significant dates of the time period. Most of the names should be familiar to readers. With no intention to give away details of what follows we delve into an alternate history version of the times that involve archeological finds, time travel and aliens. It all adds up to a rousing version of mid 20th century events with some daring twists and an ending you will not see coming. Well done most of the time, I did find myself once or twice wishing the plot along. Here and there our author ventures off just a tad with technical filler that for me bogs the story down, but, fairly quickly gets back to moving along. All in all a novel I enjoyed and was intrigued enough by to look forward to future volumes as the author indicates there will be more to come.
