In All Things by Melissa Kruger is an awesome Bible study on the book of Philippians This was a great study teaching what the word says and means, giving me a better overall understanding of Gods word. This study really helped me to form deeper more meaningful relationships with others and with God. I would recommend this book to any lady wanting to better understand Gods word.
Really good study Bible. I skimmed through it quickly for review purposes, but I do highly recommend to everyone. I do plan to finish it at my own pace. The concept is easy to follow.
God’s Word is life and power and in Him, there is fullness of joy! I was super excited to get my hands on this one as I have just recently studied the book of Philippians in my Precepts Bible Study. I have the motto of: never stop learning because His Word is ALIVE. I’m a HUGE encourager of studying inductively and that’s the way that this book is set out. What a blessing to hold when I have sat in His Word and come out with JOY, HOPE, and REFRESHMENT. Inductive study is all about the observation, interpretation, and application. The importance each one plays in correctly dividing the Word of Truth is super important and not just gathering head knowledge, which is important and has its place but living it for experientially knowing Him. ENJOY this one!
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
In All Things is by far one of the best Bible studies that I’ve done, and I’m so grateful for the gift that it is! This study was so incredible well put together, and I just know that I’ll be referencing it and my own notes often. Some of it was review for me, but I was also able to learn and reflect on so many new thoughts and ideas. I walked away from this study completely enlightened and on a mission to find the joy in my everyday moments.
Rooted deeply in Scripture and focused on diving into the Word completely for yourself, this study takes you through what the true joy found only in Jesus looks like. We get to learn so much from Paul’s letter to the Philippians, and I just love how the author of the study let’s the Bible itself do all the talking. We learn 100% from the source, and are only prompted and helped along on the side with the author’s own reflections and questions to help us dive deeper. Just as it should be, in my opinion.
This study was organized in a very practical and well-thought out way, which really clicked for me personally. Each week follows the same order, starting with Day 1 being “Observation”, Day 2 and 3 “Interpretation”, Day 4 “Application”, and Day 5 a short “Devotional” to wrap everything up. I loved knowing exactly what to expect each week, and I believe it actually helped me to grasp the “content” better with that predictability. I found each day’s homework to be very do-able and was able to always complete it within about a half-hour time frame.
I love how evident you could sense the author’s heart and love for God, as well as the integrity and commitment to stick fully to the truth of His Word, all throughout the study. Her words were relatable and spoke so much joy themselves, and were a pleasure to read.
This Bible study is perfect for any lady in any season of life, as everything can be so generally applied. It was perfect for me to go through as I’m in the thick of motherhood, and it would be equally relevant for a span of age from young adult to elderly.
Thank you so much to NetGalley for kindly providing me with a free e-copy!
In this study on Philippians and associated texts, each chapter offers space for personal journaling and reflection. The topic of joy isn't skated over but examined in depth, looking at the root and maintenance of it from a biblical perspective, alongside Melissa Kruger’s personal insights that add a touch of daily reality and help bring it all to life.
I confess I did skip the questions a bit, because some of the answers were clearly obvious or I had covered the work elsewhere. And it did feel a bit hard going to wrestle with in places, as I tend to prefer shorter devotional snippets instead. Though it was good to examine this topic in greater detail, and I would encourage you to pause and peruse to get the most out of this book.
It's well worth taking your time because then you will reap the benefits of slowly savouring the nuggets it offers. Joy can surprise us in the way it sits alongside sadness and grief and develops gradually in faith filled souls who rest in God’s provision for them. Especially those who anticipate it as a spiritual gift, rather than chasing the more ephemeral and short-lived experience of happiness.
In this social media riven and driven age in which we live, where platform building and oversharing of ourselves and our lives tends to be the norm, these words provide a refreshing alternative: “Joy comes by laying down our lives, not by puffing ourselves up.” Humility is a recurring theme in this book and a needful topic to explore in seeking joy.
However, it does take focus and concentration to get the most out of this study, and I attempted to read it during a season when I was particularly hard pressed and depleted and had limited ability to achieve those things. Consequently, I didn't manage to reach the end, so this review is based on three quarters of the text. I hope to revisit it again at a later date.
I couldn't finish this book. The writing style was not very good in my opinion. Couldn't do it. I wish I could have but I couldn't. Not for me.
In All Things Is an inspirational Bible study - it says it is a Bible study on Philippians but it also spent a good amount of time on Acts as well. What I love is that it gives you Scripture to read and it writes it for you. Then they ask you questions about what you just read - they do that so you learn/ retain what you just learned or are learning. It goes a step further - if you use a computer/ tablet/phone - copy of the study - you have the ability to write or type the answers to the questions as you go along - it's awesome. I received a copy of this book from the Publisher and Netgalley; all the opinions expressed in this review are my own..
"In All Things" is a 9 week Bible study on Philippians designed for personal or group study. Each week has 5 days of personal study. The first day involved reading a section of Philippians and answering questions about what the text says. The second day focused on what the text means. The third day brought in related verses for better understanding of the text and focused on how the verses transform you. The fourth day was application involving a point or two from the verses. The fifth day was a devotional. The Scripture verses were printed in the book so everyone's reading the same version. At the end of the book, there were suggested questions for each week that can be used for group discussion. Overall, I'd recommend this Bible study.
I really liked the format of this book. I loved that the author was intentional about putting a spot for questions to be answered and I also liked that she knew her audience might be on ereaders and took the time to explain how to take notes on an ereader if they didn't want to use separate paper.
Part of me loves that she included the scriptures in the book and part of me wishes it had just been the references. Personally, I get lazy when the scripture is included and I don't take the time to actually look up the verses and explore what another version says or even just what God wants me to hear. So this aspect of this study is neither good nor bad, just an observation.
I liked how she started out this book with basically an intro to Paul instead of just diving right into Philipeans. She is a very wise woman and knows that not every single person will be interested but she makes it a very smooth process for people to try.
I received an advanced copy of this devotional. This is my honest review.
This Bible Study takes you through the book of Philippians and the joy that is found in Christ alone. I loved the format of this study. She includes the text in the book and has space to answer the questions. She takes you through the passages by asking questions. This helps you to meditate and learn the text. By doing it this way, she trains you to read scripture on your own by asking these questions.
She also provides small group questions at the back so this would be a great study to do with others. I recommend this study if you are looking for one to do yourself or with a small group.
