SWAT Officer Jayden Brooks has his hands full. First, he has to keep his recently injured pack member, Zane, from possibly quitting and leaving the pack. Second, he has to deal with a locked-up werewolf hunter wanting to share information. Then there's the new drug lord in town cleaning up the gangs and selling his drugs in the form of energy drinks...Brooks certainly doesn't have time for a woman, even though she might prove to be the elusive The One.
Unfortunately, he hasn't much say in the matter, since first he has to save her from getting shot by a gangbanger...And then they both have to deal with the pesky little detail that she's obviously turning into a werewolf.
Having read the blurb, I was really looking forward to this story, especially once it was known Brooks's mate is an Omega. Unfortunately, the book ended up being quite a disappointment.
I still liked the action sequences; the drug busts, the saving of hostages and even the full-on assault on the SWAT compound (though those hunters are becoming rather boring). It was the romance that left me cold and severely slowed the pacing of the book.
Is it just me, or are the situations between SWAT members and their Ones starting to be repetitive? They meet under stressful situations, she either turns into a werewolf because of it or remains human, they have sex, he tells her the truth about him (and possibly her), she bolts, talks to whomever happens to pass by at the moment and blurts everything, then she's in danger and calls the werewolf, they make up, have some more sex, someone attacks them, and they all have the BBQ at the end.
It's always a variation on the same theme, and though sometimes the variation is rather nicely developed, this one came across as generic template.
I didn't particularly like the heroine. I didn't dislike her, but I didn't like her either. I felt as if Brooks was relegated to the role of window dressing on this one, since everything turned out to be about Selena (ending up in a slight retcon as to just what sort of werewolf one of the SWAT is—rather convenient, if you ask me)...Their romance was simply meh, but it did slow the pacing down.
I ended up skimming their scenes together and concentrated more on the action sequences. Which were also rather repetitive, but at least something happened. And the mole inside the DPD was so obvious, it was painful.
The slight foreshadowing at the end sent my teeth on edge as well with the newest member of the SWAT team, Rachel, letting one of the hunters go after both of them staring at each other strangely (although the fact she might mate with one of the hunters does offer quite a few nice plot possibilities and bucket-full of angst).
I do hope, Zane's story is next, though. Maybe he'll meet a nice California girl/werewolf while on assignment. He sure deserved a happy end.

I received a free copy of WOLF RISING (SWAT: Special Wolf Alpha Team) by Paige Tyler in exchange for an honest review. In this book, Jayden Brooks meets his match in Teacher Selena Rosa. Both are involved in thwarting the local gangs, which puts them in danger. Moreover, Selena finds herself having more trouble than usual with her temper, but that’s just the PTSD from almost being killed, right? Right?? Meanwhile, the hunter threat is escalating.
I have read the other books in this series, and I actually enjoyed this novel more than some of the recent books. There was more story than sex, which I appreciate greatly. For those of you who enjoy steamy sex scenes, they were there, but I, myself, prefer to skip them to get back to the tale (as I am not at all interested in the “tail” aspects). Enjoy!

I loved all the books in the Swat series. I love this one in particular. Non stop action.
Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

I enjoy all of Paige Tyler's wolf series. This book was a good addition to the SWAT series and I can't wait for more!

Wolf Rising is the eighth book in the SWAT series by Paige Tyler. It delves deeper into new faces in the SWAT team and fleshes out the intra group dynamics. While some of the favorite characters from the SWAT team do make cameos in this book, the focus is on illuminating the back stories and focusing on the character development of the lead characters, Wolf shifter and SWAT Officer Jayden Brooks and the she-wolf high school teacher Selena Rosa.
This book introduces the she-wolf Selena Rosa, a high school teacher whose dedication to her students is unparalleled. She works in a school in a tough neighborhood and fights to give her students a different way of life away from violence. She doesn't know about her latent abilities and is shocked when the werewolf gene finally triggers after the traumatic attack in her classroom.
Wolf shifter and SWAT Officer Jayden Brooks is a highly powerful lycanthrope who is an integral part of Gage Dixon's Dallas SWAT unit. After seeing the others of his pack find their soul mates and fall in love he too wants to find his one while protecting the city from threats old and new.
Together, Jayden and Selena work together to save themselves from the wolf hunters and the mob who is distributing a deadly drug killing people across the city and their relationship becomes stronger forged in fire. This book does justice to its name and is truly spellbinding. Paige Tyler’s expansion of her werewolf mythos has given ‘Wolf Rising' more nuance and depth while melding humor with paranormal suspense. Her characters have such depth that you just can't help rooting for them.

I loved Brooks and Selena's story. Paige Tyler always delivers on the action packed thriller of her books. I can not wait to read what is in store for the rest of SWAT and learning who comes next for their The One.

This book was a great addition to the series. This is a standalone, but I would highly recommend reading the other books in the series. This book had non-stop action and a great romance.

Eight books on into Paige Tyler’s shapeshifter SWAT series, ‘Wolf Rising’ finally goes deeper to explore the idea of the omega wolf: the long, violent ranger as opposed to the Alpha wolf pack like the SWAT team this series revolves around.
In the same pattern that Tyler takes with all the SWAT books, there’s the prologue that begins with a violent incident that marks the start of a man-turned-werewolf, then a period of time later as we find them settled as a motley crew of growling, all-too-alpha pack within a SWAT compound in Dallas and searching for their one true mate. The journey to each HEA is as always, fraught with some kind of danger, and it’s no different for Jayden Brooks who finds his one and only here after a traumatic event that starts her shifting process into an omega werewolf.
Tyler juggles several points of conflicts along with the romance: the war on drugs and gangbangers, the looming hunters, the unpredictable and uncontrollable omega wolf. But clearly all isn’t quite resolved yet as issues with the wolf hunters look to stretch further on into the future with barely any progress made on that front seeing as the romance and the omega wolf are what take priority in the plot.
With Tyler going with the myth of each shapeshifter finding the one and only mate for himself is one that I always find rather hard to swallow hook, line and sinker nonetheless—there are several gaps in logic and unanswerable questions that keep coming up—but it’s a trope of shapeshifting fantasy that certainly and conveniently helps cement a pairing together the moment they find each other. It seems that having part-wolf genes provides enough grounding rationale for instant love (or rather, lust), and the quick way in which Selena/Brooks fall for each other—attributed mostly to a scent both can’t shake off that’s probably akin to the first flush of love—left me sceptical.
Still, the mythology of werewolves at least, tailored-to fit in Tyler’s SWAT series, is what kept the pages turning for me as each book reveals a little more about them, despite several predictable plot points. Apart from Selena’s somewhat uncharacteristic TSTL behaviour after finding out what she’d become (this gets back on track rather quickly), ‘Wolf Rising’ is quite a straightforward and decent read that isn’t weighed down too much with convoluted past history despite being the eighth book in the series.

Having read all the other books in the series I was really looking forward to this one but I was a little disappointed. I thought the characters needed a little more depth and I just couldn't connect with them. That said, it is definitely worth a read.
I received this ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.

The biggest alpha wolf on the team falls for a little spitfire school teacher who turns out to be an newly turned omega wolf.. Lots of suspense in this one from all different angles. We learn more about what the hunters know and don't know about the werewolves. Overall a page turner..

Selena is a school teacher and while in class a former student, who’s also a member of a gang, comes and tries to take one of her students. He holds a gun on them and threatens them. Brooks is a werewolf and a member of the SWAT team. He thinks he’ll never find his mate until he gets a whiff of Selena. He thinks she’s the one but then realizes she s turning into a werewolf. The traumatic event set off the werewolf gene and she starts to turn and fast. When a make out session has her biting him, she freaks out. Brooks knows he has to explain to her what is happening but doesn’t know how she’ll take it. When they have sex and Selena leaves bite marks and scratch marks all over Brooks, he has to tell her. They find out she’s an omega wolf, they have a harder time controlling their wolf.
The wolves have hunters after them and someone inside the police department is helping them. There is also a new gang leader out there putting drugs in energy drinks and people are od’ing or dying. It’s up to the team to find out who is head of the hunters and the new gang leader is.
Excellent story with some old and new friends. A tough teacher and a smoking hot SWAT/ werewolf. Suspense, action, sexy, and an ending that’ll surprise you. ( Even though I figured out who the gang leader was early on ). I can’t wait to see what happens with this team next.

Well, this book had such potential and I was so excited to read it.
Honestly, I could be since I haven't read any prior books in this series, maybe I will missing something.
I really could not get into this story.
I AM going to try reading book 1 and see if I like that one any better. If so, I will further update this review if I read this book again.

I just love the SWAT books! An all werewolf SWAT team, with hunky guys is drool worthy! Selena has fought gangs her entire life. Gangs took everything from her and she decided to fight back by becoming a teacher and standing up to them. I loved her spirit. She wanted to help kids and give them love so they wouldn't turn to the gang life.
Jayden is brought in to rescue Selena when one of her students brings a gun into class and is going to kill her. It was a good story. Their chemistry together is absolutely hot. Selena has a great friend and her back story is heartbreaking. I enjoyed learning more about werewolves and each difference. Seeing that they can change from beta to alpha or from omega. The hunters are horrible and need to all be exterminated! I cannot wait to see what happens next with this team, I'm hoping there is some revenge in the mix.
4/5 and I cannot wait to pick up the next one.
Thank you to the publisher for the review copy of this book. I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.
