This was one of those novels that shot out of the gate and sprinted all the way to the finish line. There was pretty much no lead-up to the main plot getting started and characters were introduced left and right and sometimes it got a bit confusing. Some of the plot seemed a bit far-fetched a times, then seemed a bit too easy for the protagonists to solve, and then other parts seemed very believable. Certainly not a bad spy-thriller, but one that could have used a bit of work here and there. It did succeed in keeping me entertained and wanting to read the remaining books in the series to find out how things end.

I couldn't put this book down. It is about an assassin-trained operator trained by the U.S. who learns her brother was murdered but it is being said it was suicide. She plans on finding out who and why.

She teams up with a member from her brother's squad, a white hat and two English super soldiers to get to the bottom of this mystery. She uses all her contacts from her training and gets close to an answer until she discovers someone who trained with her is on the other side is protecting the head of the powerful bad guys.
Using all her training and the training of the others, they make several runs on those down the chain. They want the top guy.

The twists and turns and the descriptions on the various attempts keep the story on high alert. Who done it and why? You think you know and then a twist happens and takes you on another path. I did foresee one character's real identity but not until a couple of chapters before the end.

Highly suspenseful and held my attention all the way to the end. This is the first in a series of six books. I can't wait to start the next.

Run and Hide, Alan McDermott's most recent thriller gives us plenty to think about! Is something like what Eva Driscoll and her associates experience in this truly exciting novel possible? Seriously, she's just an ex-CIA wet-worker who comes to the rescue of her recently murdered brother's ex-Army compatriot. She explains to him while saving his life, that she wants to know who killed her brother and why? Mr. McDermott knows how to tell his tale! What a page-turner! I had to force myself three nights in a row, stop reading, it was getting late (well, later), 3 a.m. is not really late, is it? Besides the escalating excitement, hold on for twists and turns as the culmination comes near! Oh, My!!!
I highly recommend this outstanding book! Right now, I'm looking for Alan McDermott's mystery series!

This is book 1 of the Eva Driscoll Series. Eva is trying to find the people who killed her brother and save the lives of the other Special Forces squad he was a part of. Can she and Rees save the men and themselves?

While this is definitely a thriller and a fast paced story, it didn’t appeal to me on several levels. I’m not a conspiracy theorist so that part left me bored and uninterested.

The story is fairly well written and the author does an excellent job tying all the characters together.

Though the story is first in a series, it can be easily be read as a stand alone. For me personally, I will not be moving on to book 2.

Fast paced political thriller that will keep you gripped. Eva Driscoll is out for revenge - her brother has been murdered and it's been made to look like suicide. She starts on a journey to reveal his killers and comes across the most powerful network in the world. A fantastic read - highly recommended.

This book is fast action, and slow slow slow. It's like the flow is off. The characters go from in-depth to shallow.
Eva is a superhero and she's up against evil. Big evil, powerful as you'd expect. I'd really like the multiple POV's but they were wrapped up oddly. It was like watching the exact same events in another voice, and that didn't work quite as I'd hoped.

Thanks to Net Galley for my copy of this book.

I loved that the kick ass main character was a women who used her mind to get herself out of tough situations. In books where there are guns and spies it is normally a male lead and if there is a women the only way she gets ahead is by using her body. I loved that she was able to work with her connections on a even standing to get things done.

Overall great story. Characters were developed well. Nice plot, with most questions answered. Left me interested in other stories with the characters.

I've read several books by Alan McDermott and have enjoyed them all. His books are easy to follow and very fast paced. Many times I had to stop reading and didn't want to. I highly recommend this book and anything else that he's written.

Run and Hide by Alan McDermott was given to me thru Netgalley for an honest review. Alan McDermott weaves an action packed, quick passed, thrilling tale in Run and Hide. I love books that open up with a suspenseful action, and great characters. Knowing in advance that this is the first first book of a series, I know that not all questions will be answered, nor should they be. Another thing that I keep in mind characters in a series grow at a slower pace, than a stand alone novel. As Eve Driscoll saves the life of Rees Colback, for he may be the only link to how her brother truly died. The question why do they want Rees Colback dead, and why her?
Unfortunate for the people behind the kills, and the few failed attempts on Eva and Rees's life, they forget who they are up against.
I truly loved, loved Run and Hide.So ready for the next adventure with Eva Driscoll. Thank you Alan McDermott for crafting such a thrilling, action, suck you in book.

This book was not for me but I am sure some people may enjoy. It was a did not finish for me. I would consider trying another of this authors books.

I am always encouraged whenever I see a non-traditional hero(ine) in the thriller genre. We are all so used to the ex-SEAL, ex-CIA, ex-Secret Service, ex-whatever that we crave something new. These books are all about something new and riveting after all. Eva Driscoll does not deliver. Perhaps if this book had been written by Gayle Lynds it might have turned out better. It read as though Mr McDermott thought that the job spec "assassin" was gender-neutral. Don't get me wrong. This is enjoyable entertainment and well-written, but not the best he is capable of writing.

Run and Hide An Eva Driscoll Thriller by Alan McDermott
Book Review by Dawn Thomas

304 Pages
Publisher: Amazon Publishing UK / Thomas & Mercer
Release Date: August 22, 2018

General Fiction (Adult), Mystery & Thriller, Spies

Rees Colback was minding his own business when guys jump out of a vehicle and try to take him. He is rescued by Eva Driscoll, a CIA operative. After her brother was killed, she is trying to find out who was behind the hit.

Len Smart and Sonny Blaines work for Tom Gray in the U.K. as security specialists. They are losing contracts to another security firm that continues to undercut their prices. When Andrew Harvey, an agent for MI5 asks them to take a job, they accept. When Eva sees them for the first time, she is disappointed until she sees them in action.

The ESO is an organization of the richest men in the world. They control corporations and countries. The leader, Henry Langston, is not happy and has his sights on Eva Driscoll. She and her team must find ways to stop the ESO before they find her.

The book is written in the third person. The story is fast paced, and the characters are developed. Eva is a strong woman trained in espionage. It is great to see such a woman in charge. I loved this book and quickly purchased the other two in the series! There is another series with Tom Gray, that has tie-ins to this series. It made me really think about political situations and who benefits from world events.

This is the first book in a new trilogy, and I can't wait to get my hands on the following books. This was a good and solid introduction into a new character, and I can see the story going places! Recommended.

"Run and Hide" is a mostly okay story. It can be slightly enjoyable in some parts but it was rather lacking in others.

Really kept me glued to it. Very fast moving suspense novel. Cold hearted killers on both sides. Politically motivated killing on both sides. The super rich secretly rule the world and direct the wars to benefit themselves and crush anyone who opposes them. The main female character was a little over the top, slicing up people and not even wiping the blood off before going on to the next one. Overall good read.

CIA assassin fears her brother was murdered so she and her band of misfits she collects along the way go rouge to take down those responsible. That’s the premise. But this book is so much more, Eva, the main character, learns of a plot to kill former soldiers, her brother included, and sets out to find out why and to stop any more murders. What they find is corruption of the highest order, reaching all the way to the top levels of government and the secret cabal behind it all. The book bogs down a little in the middle, but really picks up in the end. A lot of excitement and conspiracy theories abound, but in the end Eva finds her answers. While this is a stand-alone book, the last few pages set up for a sequel which I cannot wait for. Just read I!
