This story is scary because it could really happen. If you are intrigued, you can read and review it via NetGalley or wait until 22 Aug 2018 for it to go live. Be aware that there is violence as well as adult language and situations that if you are sensitive to, you might wish to stay away from this story.
Rees Colback, former Special Forces, and Eva Driscoll, Special Operator, meet in an unconventional way. That happens when someone is out to take you down. It will take their combined skills and her connections to figure out the why and who.
I really enjoyed the character development. The "good guys" weren't perfect or superheroes. The "bad guys" were not stupid but stuff happens to frustrate their efforts. Their reactions are equal to their skill level.
Eva and Rees are awesome characters. I definitely want to see more books with them. One of the best books I have read in a while
Great book, action-filled from the first page. If you love the heart pounding feeling of being chased, looking over your shoulder and seeing big brother right behind you, this book is for you. Not to give anything away, but just want to say I don't want to believe a select few people can have the power to have citizens eliminated by our government. Overall a good book, kept my attention and couldn't put it down.
An exciting story. What do you do to fight the wealthiest men in the world who seem to control the world? Just get the few best people together. A little gory toward the end, but a fast-paced book that reads quickly.
Eva, the feisty main protagonist in the story, is a former assassin for the CIA. She believes she has been killing the enemies of her country. When her brother is killed, she questions her whole basis of her previous life and finds things are not as she’d thought. This is a brilliant conspiracy theory novel. Taking a stand, she finds things get worse for her, and the ex-soldier who shares her task. She’s a resourceful woman and we go from thinking she’ll make it to fearing she’s doomed – and back. Bringing in an old lover of hers was a master stroke from author Alan McDermott. He has always written an exciting novel. Here, he’s surpassed himself. A brilliant read.
Action packed and fast paced from start to finish. Eva is a great character who dominates the book as she tries to find the truth as to why her brother was killed by helping Colback who is the next target. The book is left leaving us thinking there may be another. I hope so!
Revenge, a dish best served with lethal force. Eva Driscoll has been trained to be a lethal force to be reckoned with and when her Special Forces brother is murdered in a cover up operation, she will stop at nothing to expose the truth, but is she ready to face a foe so formidable it has the government in its pocket?
RUN AND HIDE by Alan McDermott is for those conspiracy lovers who want that over-the-top action, the dark and dirty secrets of power exposed and a heroine who will stop at nothing in a cat and mouse game of survival against the government machine.
Eva was trained to kill for her country, but has she been betrayed by the very government she swore to protect? Where does the true power come from? Could it be true that the greed of powerful businessmen pulled her strings, too? Are they behind her brother’s “suicide?” Never mess with family, never…
Dark, gritty, full-throttle action is packed in from start to finish as Eva and her collection of unlikely allies take on the monsters pulling the world’s strings, but this time those monsters just may get hung by the very strings they manipulate.
Eva is that heroine who is faster than a speeding bullet, able to out think the enemy and survive against all odds. Hey! This is fiction, and if one lets go of reality, who is to say, there aren’t people out there just like Eva? Rapid-fire pacing, hard-hitting action and the imagination of a very talented author made this one fly past at the speed of light, all while keeping us wondering what will Eva do next!?!

Although there are conspiracy elements to this book, I found it exciting and interesting. Books such as this one aren't my usual choice, but when it was offered I decided to give it a try and i'm glad that I did.
Eva Driscoll is CIA and she has served her country by taking out those who would harm the USA. She is watching Rees Colback, one of her brother’s former Special Forces squad team members, when he is nearly abducted from a New York street. He is able to get away and she follows him and rescues him. She tells him that her brother was found dead of a faked overdose suicide and he was to be next. They team up to find out who is after him and now her since she has gone rogue. Eva Driscoll is a trained badass and she will not give up until she finds out who murdered her brother. Mr. McDermott has written a faced pace action, suspense and mystery that will grab your attention from the very first page. He is also the author of the “Tom Gray” books and we will catch up with Tom and Andrew from that series. A thrill ride that you won’t want to miss! I look forward to the next book in the Eva Driscoll series. I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to give an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
Alan McDermott is the author of the Tom Gray Series and while Tom makes a brief appearance in this book, it's Sonny and Len who see the action.
Called in to assist CIA trained Eva Driscoll who regularly and ruthlessly tracks down bad guys but has now stuck her nose in someone very high up's business.
She knows her brother would never commit suicide and when other members of his unit start dying, she will stop at nothing to find out who and why this is happening and get justice for her brother.
If you like conspiracy theories, and who doesn't, this is right up your alley. I know I have had a few of these thoughts myself and this book could not be more timely.
Eva is an interesting character and I would have loved to have known more about her. Her character is the one that stuck closest to a CIA operative. A ghost. We know nothing about her.
The same events told from the perspective of the good guys and then the bad guys was a bit much. And the ending was a forgone conclusion.
I really liked the interaction with Sonny and Len. And I enjoyed the book.

This book is full of non-stop action. An army unit is being killed off in civilian life. The sister of one of the guys, Eva is after the group. She saves the life of Colback the last of the unit her brother was in.
they go after the shadowy group that is running the country and most of the world. Eva is badass and shows how smart she is as she goes up against this shadow group.
I enjoyed the writing and the people who came to help them. There was unexpected help from all sides.
lots of action and double crosses. thank you, Net Galley, for giving me a chance to find a new author.
Loved the end. hope to read more about this ragtag group.
You need to keep your wits about you when reading this super fast-paced thriller where the unbelievable happens. Eva Driscoll enlists help from two of Toms old crew when her brother is said to have committed suicide, she is convinced that he would never have taken his own life and this is confirmed when other members of his team are confirmed dead. She is determined to get answers but has no idea what she is up against.
This is a top shelf, master spy thriller by Alan McDermott.
Run and Hide takes off at warp speed and only slows down now and then for you to catch a breath before zooming off again.
I hope there is a sequel to Run and Hide!
Five solid stars.
Another great read. A political thriller filled with action and a cast of characters the reader will want to follow in the future. The villains are BIG Money and are secretly running the country. Our heroine is a former CIA agent/assassin who is looking for the people responsible for her brother’s death. She links up with a former member of Special Forces who is also on the kill list and who was her brother’s friend. The interaction between them and the few others they bring into their group is grabbing and will keep any reader up late. Thanks to Net Galley and Thomas and Mercer for an ARC for an honest review.
I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Wow, I don't usually read books like this but I'm sure glad I accepted this read from the publisher. This book is full of excitement, intrigue, and adventure. What would you do if someone from the government was trying to kill you????? Run, of course..........but where do you go? Help arrives on a motorcycle and away we go!!!!! I do not like make protagonists in the books I read but Alan McDermott has changed my mind about that. Enjoy!!
You open the book and it's GO, GO, GO! Yep, this is all caps ACTION from the start and it's fun right through to the end. This has kept me amused during the intense heatwave bathing the world, which may be why it felt like a summer blockbuster from Hollywood. One of the goods ones. You know, you go for the explosions and end up enjoying the plot before you realise it.
I guess in some respects I should be disappointed, I was sold on a mysterious thriller and his really doesn't deliver much in that regard. It's not that there aren't any questions to answer, more that you're too busy riding the adrenaline wave to notice they haven't been answered. You get the odd, brief, chapter which dials it back slightly for some exposition but basically, this story focuses on what's happening in that exact moment. But, even as a lover of really dark, brooding thrillers, I did enjoy this. Sometimes you just want to kick back and relax, which this was ideal for.
Driscoll takes clear centre stage and is a bit of an anti-hero. A classic, slightly too perfect person with a few rough edges. Through her adventure, she has some equally spot-on associates. The too smart to be appreciated computer genius, the ask no questions criminal contacts who can supply anything and everything, the old flames left in her wake... you can identify everyone. Even down to the blacked out Jeeps for the people chasing her. Despite the obvious tropes of these characters, anyone of any significance does avoid being two dimensional though. There are backstories that tie people together cleverly. Small details that humanise them and make it all fall into place. There's clever distraction too, and that does add a slight mystery flavour.
The plot is a nice balance between not being too convoluted and not being too simple, although it is nearer the simple end of the spectrum. It's perfect for a plane or train, or a lunch in the park. There are numerous good break points alongside the healthy dose of must-read page-turning scenes so you can manage the reading comfortably.
All in all, it's a fun and enjoyable action story. You won't be scratching your head or working on cracking the case yourself, but you can enjoy the adventure because it does that wonderfully and then delivers an extra dose of pleasure on top.
Eve Driscoll is out for revenge. Her brother was killed and she is determined to find out who was behind it. Eve is a top CIA agent who has been put on a shoot to kill list. A very powerful organization with world wide tentacles is out to stop her. She is left with very few friends to help her.
This book starts out with a bang and the action never stops. There was a spot in the book where the conspiracy theory lost me for a minute. It felt a little too political for me. I kept reading and was able to get past my issue. The book kept me interested enough to keep reading to see how the author was going to wrap it up. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.
I love a strong heroine who doesn't come across as hard and brittle, Eva Driscoll is just such a heroine. She's smart and crafty without losing any of her humanity.
Great suspense and good character development, I felt the tension along with the characters all the way along. They were up against impossible odds but used their wits to overcome their adversaries. This is a wonderful series and I can't wait to read the next book.
Before I start with my review, I have to be honest here and say I'm probably not the right target group for this one. While I like my thrillers fast and action-packed, it becomes pretty obvious early on that Run And Hide is basically a male-focused story and some of the comments included can come over as sexist. This probably has had a negative influence on my opinion and I do think male readers who like fast spy and action thrillers will have a lot better time than I did with this story. But let's talk a bit further about my own experience with this story. Besides the sometimes crude comments and other possibly sexist references, I had a hard time connecting to the writing style in general. This made it harder to fully focus on the story and keep myself invested in the plot. The plot itself was a little too much for me and not credible at all, but I guess it would probably make for a perfect Hollywood blockbuster action movie. Over the top, extreme, with a lot of gun action and fighting scenes... National safety at stake and a conspiracy plot and all; oh yes, Run And Hide would probably translate very well to the screen. As a book I wasn't too sure the story actually worked though. There were too many different storylines and POVs for me, making it hard tracking them all and figuring out who is who. While most of them turned out to be important to the plot, I would have preferred less POVs and a more indirect introduction instead. The main characters have potential, but I personally wasn't convinced by how Eva Driscoll was described. Again, this might have just been me not belonging to the intended target group though. Overall I was fully expecting to enjoy this story better, especially since I like a healthy dose of action scenes, but sadly Run And Hide wasn't for me.
Run And Hide is fast, ruthless and lethal. I'm positive the right target group will absolutely love this action-packed spy thriller that reads like a blockbuster action movie. I myself had problems with both the credibility, male-focused comments and writing style in general, but like I said before that might just be me not being the right target group for this one. If you are able to connect to the writing style, you won't find a boring minute in this story.
Alan McDermott’s newest novel “Run and Hide” should fulfill the dreams of every conspiracy theorist who reads it. If your beliefs lie elsewhere, you may find it difficult to suspend disbelief through this entire book.
I could appreciate the tightly woven storyline that neatly wrapped all the characters together in a natural fashion. When the author first began unloading new names every chapter, I felt a bit overwhelmed and questioned how Mr. McDermott would pull it all together and have everything make sense. By the middle of the book, however, he deftly roped in all the characters and tied them neatly together. This was the five-star element of the book.
Unfortunately, other aspects weren’t given the same top-notch treatment. Main character Eva Driscoll is skimpily drawn. We know little about her except what we see when she is in action: a smart, cold, calculating woman whose skills place her in superhero status. Eva’s prowess is matched by Henry Langton, a shadowy person who, through his masquerade as a philanthropist, actually is the most powerful person in the world. This sets up the classic match between the female superhero and a super-villain. This is great fodder for comic book fans, but not for readers looking for a serious thriller.
On numerous occasions, scenes are “rewound” so that readers first see it through the perspective of Eva and her partners and then once again through the eyes of their adversaries. While this can be a way to introduce necessary facts, these extra chapters added nothing new to the book and only achieved slowing the pacing of the story. If the author felt it was important to see both views, flipping back and forth in real time would have been more effective. Forcing the reader to relive several events twice served no purpose.
The ending was anticlimactic as I felt the author inserted his own spoiler, leaving readers nothing to do until they reach the expected finish. Although Mr. McDermott sets up for a second book, “Run and Hide” stands on its own as a complete story. While this book was okay, I found it over the top and difficult to believe as well as identify with the main characters, and probably will pass on the next offering. Three stars.
