really liked it

bookshelves: netgalley, mystery, 2019

There’s only so long you can run for your life.

Eva Driscoll is used to chasing down bad guys, but now the bad guys are chasing her. She knows they won’t stop until she’s dead.

The clock is ticking. They can’t run forever. It’s time to make a choice: kill or be killed…

And so begins a fast paced thriller that kept me enthralled to the end. I really enjoyed Eva and the cast of characters that help her along the way. She was a very strong, smart character who was able to save herself and others. Colback, Smart, Sonny and Farooq made a fabulous team with Huff added in as a wildcard. The story line was very well written and feasible to make it seemed ripped from the headlines.

I want to thank NetGalley for the chance to read this free copy and to share my opinions.

Eva Driscoll is used to hunting down bad guys but it got personal when her brother is killed and it is made to look like a suicide. Fast paced, great writing; the beginning of a great series.

Thanks to NetGalley and to Thomas & Mercer for an advance copy of Run and Hide.

I loved this story from the outset. By the end of chapter two, we'd had a fist fight and a car chase, and the action just got quicker from there on in.

The book was like reading a film, John Wick, for example. You can practically see the story unfolding, you can see the baddies, and you're rooting for the protagonist and her team from the off.

Even when you know what's likely to happen, the author still builds suspense. From the moment the little old lady walked in front of a car and fell over, I second-guessed the rest of the story, right up to the very last scene outside the prison. That one caught me on the hop. But guessing what might happen didn't detract from the excellent storytelling.

This book has page-turning readability. You just want to read the next chapter before bed ... and before you know it you're a third further into the story.

I enjoyed this advance reader copy so much, I bought a copy so that my husband  could read it on his Kindle. And when I finished it, I bought the author's first novel too.

Highly recommended for thriller lovers.

Eva is on a hunt to bring down an organization that killed her brother. This was the first book I’ve read by Alan McDermott and I was absolutely glued to my seat desperate to learned what happened next. The details in the book were amazing and since I live in one of the locations the book was centered around I felt I was actually witnessing the story unfold. Absolutely loved it!

I do love it when fictional characters from different books meet up! So Eva Driscoll meeting up with Tom Gray's men was very exciting for me. How can I fail to love a book with a tough, smart, sexy, hard as nails, butt kicking female - so very like myself. The story was so incredible that it passed through completely unbelievable and came out the other side into, "Ohmidays, this could actually be true" territory. Loved it and will definitely be following the Eva Driscoll story.

Oh I absolutely loved this thriller by Alan McDermott and it won’t be the last. This page turning thriller is a definitely must read, 8f you love Robert Bryandza, Harlan Coben and Mary Higgins Clarke, etc, you will devour Run and Hide. I don’t want to give the plot away, suffice to say you won’t be disappointed. Thanks to the publisher and as ever to Netgalley for the arc. Hisgly recommend.

A mystery/thriller, Run and Hide follows Eva Driscoll, a CIA-trained woman used to chase down bad guys and not the other way around. But when her brother was killed in a faked suicide, Driscoll teams up with ex-soldier Rees Colback. Together they’re determined to uncover why members of his Special Forces squad are dying in mysterious circumstances but found themselves at the crosshairs of every agency in the country.

Fast-paced and easy to read, “Run and Hide” feeds your need for adrenaline. It is hard to put down once you started. Lots of plot twists and unexpected turns. Eva Driscoll can give Jack Reacher a run for his money.

I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley.

The beginning of the book was very exciting...car and motorcycle chases, people escaping, etc.

Unfortunately, the story evolved into a conspiracy book about the group that is really running the US Government. At that point, I gave up and did not finish reading the book. Very disappointing.

I was unsure if this book would suit my reading likes as I am not that much into action thrillers and conspiracies. Anyway, I liked reading this book from Alan McDermott and I think itwould be even more interesting to readers really fans of this type of thrillers.

Thank you to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my candid review.

I thought that this was a great book! It is the first in what I expect will be a longer series of books. It is in the CIA/FBI/Military genre with the unlikely protaganists are fighting to save the world, US, country from the evil behind the scenes puppetmasters that control all governments, banks, and multibillion dollar multinational companies.

It is an unlikely group----a badass black ex-special forces guy, an even more badass CIA clandestine (read: assassin); and two British special forces dudes. The story is mostly action---not much background and/or character development, but the storyline was sound. And it obviously leaves the door open for a sequel.

I will give this book a four due to the lack of personal development, but my guess is that that will come with follow up books.

Give it a try---you will like it.

This is a fast-paced thriller that reads like a popcorn blockbuster movie! Loads of action and great characters made it a really enjoyable read.

I sincerely apologize for this inconvenience.

This was an action packed thriller from beginning to end and it isn't finished yet. Great story which could well be true. Well described characters with good interactions. Once I started I couldn't put it down.

The book was ok. It is a government conspiracy book with a female assassin lead in the book. I couldn't really care about any of the characters and it sucks because there is no ending and it is a cliffhanger at the end.

Primarily I was an avid reader of fantasy books. Of late I have got into thrillers and mystery books especially where they align with FBI, CIA, or other such organisations.

This book was one I loved delving into, as it was fast paced and showed how the hunters can become the hunted and also switch this around to become hunters themselves.

The book is very fast paced and you get to side with the main character very easily as its so well written to draw you in. What is great is that it brings in characters from other series by the author thus interlinking worlds, perhaps an option for of this down the line.

Hooked on the book, so much looking for the follow up to the series which I will surely buy!

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I am extremely surprised that I enjoyed this as much as I did. Can't say that espionage thrillers written by men are something I would put in my literary wheelhouse, but dang Alan McDermott, I'm impressed. Our protagonist, Eva Driscoll, is described in an obliviously sexist way maybe just twice (and in the beginning) (more so in intentionally gross ways to make you dislike characters) and I appreciated how she was just a bad ass lady with mad (view spoiler) skills trying to take down a secret organization and seek revenge for her brother's death. With a ragtag group of guys that are minimally focused on and it's cool because they honestly add very little to the story. I'll take it!

This is a good read for action packed conspiracy thrillers. My issue with this read was the lack for full character development, especially for the main protagonist, Eva Driscoll. While a good conspiracy thriller has an 'oh, that can't happen'scene or two, this story had one too many of those moments. With all this said, this story would make a better action movie than book. Thank you to Netgalley for this arc.
