I deeply apologize, but life is a handful lately and I'm using all my free time to read, not review. I hope everybody understands.
Run and Hide by Alan McDermott
Eva Driscoll is being chased by thugs who won’t stop until they kill her. After her brother is killed, Driscoll teams up with ex-soldier Rees Colback, who she knows is the one person who can help her find answers. Together they’re also determined to uncover why members of his Special Forces squad are dying in mysterious circumstances. But they are forced to flee before they can find answers. But they can’t run forever. With a large character list and an action-packed plot, this book will keep readers up all night following Driscoll as she flees across the US. Strong writing, tough plotting, and characters readers will find attractive are what makes this book a winner.

Deep State
I grew up in a Leave It To Beaver/Father Knows Best kind of world where Bonanza and Little House on the Prairie were as complicated as life got. Then came the '60s with Vietnam and JFK and MLK and life got "real." Now, nearly a quarter into the 21st century, nothing is as it seems and conspiracy, paranoia, and Deep State are the new realities. Big Brother knows all and sees all. And it doesn't get much deeper than this thriller as layers of government are peeled back and we learn what "they" don't want you to know. So suspend your disbelief or wallow in the nightmare of paranoia or eye-opening fact as you hang on for a bumpy and exciting ride!
Fast paced rollercoaster of a ride. Full on action thriller. Excellent plot, great central character that I’d like to see more of.
Always a pleasure to read a book by this author. I love that the main character is such a strong female character - she is very well constructed and developed. The plot is fantastic - looking forward to the sequels!
This novel starts out with fast action and it never lets up. The opening scene has a man being shot at and running into a police station. But, the guys who shot at him come in after him and claim they are homeland security. He runs out, and ends up on a motorcycle with a woman, who turns out to have known a military friend of his who was killed. She is his sister, Eva Driscoll. The man, Rees Colback, is recruited to help her figure out why the members of her brother’s unit are being killed. She also hires a couple of guys from London to help since she can’t trust anyone else not to be corrupted. There is a shadowy group responsible and they seem to control just about everything, even the president himself. Sonny Baines and Len Smart are great characters and provide a lot of comic relief. Eva is a mysterious woman who is trained by the CIA, but she’s got some secrets. Together, the team tries to figure out the mystery and who is behind the murders. Meanwhile, they are being chased all over the place and have to find safe places to hide because the shadowy organization has eyes everywhere.
This was a pretty good thriller and it looks like it is the first of a series, so there will be more to come. I enjoyed it and thought it was an excellent read. Very well done.
Awesome! Very fast paced and hard to put down. Just enough character development to anticipate each character's reactions but also enough twists and turns to keep the momentum going! Definitely didn't see the ending coming. Would love to read more of Alan McDermott's work - highly recommend this book!
I really enjoy the grey books from the author and this is more of the same.
Big guns, espionage, worldwide settings. Its an easy, exciting read.
This is wonderfully over the top in the way many spy thrillers are, with plenty of cliff hangers and impossible to escape situations. If you enjoy a good Jason Bourne type thrillers but with a strong female lead, you'll love this.
Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC without obligation.
Run and Hide was a fast-paced novel that centered around a handful of main characters. Each character was uniquely written and highly skilled. The knowledge of the characters was very intriguing and McDermott did a great job complimenting the characters off of each other. However, I did find the backstory and description of the characters to be very lacking. The author focused well and truly on the action in front of him and allowed the reader to fill in their own ideas about the characters. Which, on one hand, I did enjoy getting to have a little creative thinking... but, I would have liked a little more to go off of. That is not to say that there was no backstory, just not as much as I would have preferred.
The story line was very tightly woven and given to you in multiple perspectives. Parts written in the view of the "good" guys and parts written in the view of the "bad" guys. I did enjoy being able to read both points of view, but I thought that it could have been done a little differently to mesh better.
Overall, I did really enjoy reading Run and Hide. As previously mentioned, this novel was fast-paced and did manage to keep the reader interested. In fact, I read this in just a couple of days.
This started with a bang and kept going! There were quite a few characters' viewpoints to get your head around, but it gave a well-rounded view of what was going on. It would have been nice to get to know the main characters better but that may happen in future books in the series.
Alan McDermott is an accomplished author with many exciting characters in his already hit novels. He brings his expertise and some of his characters to play in the first book of his new series. The central character is Eve Driscoll, a principled woman who finds herself working not for the CIA but a very unprincipled group of people. This group is responsible for the death of her brother. How she uses her skills with the help of her associates makes a very exciting read. This book could easily become next summer's blockbuster movie!
Loved this book! It's a very fast paced thriller and the action starts from the first few paragraphs. From there, it doesn't let up at all and gets extremely tense at times. A very good thriller that you just want to race through. This was my first introduction to Alan McDermott but I'll definitely be reading more from him in the future!
Brilliant fast paced gets you from the start and keeps you guessing until the end.would recommend this to friends and family!!!
A thriller until the end, this book left me wondering if there wasn’t a few kernels of truth to this scenario in real life....which would scare me.
This was a fun read! It reminded me of a fast action movie. Eva is easily liked. She's a tough chick, but takes care of her people. I highly recommend this book if you like a fast-paced action storyline.
Eva Driscoll, I want to be her when I grow up. Great fast paced thrilling read. I will be reading more from this author.
I absolutely loved this book! It was well written. His characters were well developed and you liked some or hated others. Eva was a great kick ass woman and the other characters worked with her. The story kept you interested in what was going to happen next. I highly recommend this book.
This was an action packed, fast paced book, which totally gripped me from start to finish.
I am hoping that there will be a follow up to the characters with how the ending was left, and I will be first in the queue to read it.
My favourite book this year.
This is a good action spy story that will keep you paying attention as you read it. It does have some sexist slant towards it, so it may not be fo everyone. I would recommend this to people who like the espionage genre of stories more than adventure or procedural.
