Mission Impossible meets Fast and Furious - this book had me gripped from the start! Ex CIA agent Eva is such a strong woman and the heroine of the story as she tried to uncover the background to her brothers suicide and enlists the help of Rees, who was in his Special Forces unit. This is the first book in the Eva Driscoll series and I'm intrigued to see what her next adventure will be. A winner again for Alan McDermott.
I either love or dislike this author's Tom Gray books but I like the world that they are set in. This book is set in Tom's world, but Tom doesn't have much to do. Andrew Harvey does, and I really like this character.
The story is mainly a chase story and is fast and exciting.
Really enjoyed this book. Fans of Lee Childs will love this fast paced, high energy thriller. Couldn’t put it down and look forward to more in the future by this author.
This book was filled with so much information, at times it was difficult to sort through. Eventually, the story line becomes more clear and the book is a heart-racing journey of figuring out who can be trusted and how it will all turn out... I liked the ending and how it was not so neatly tied together....as life often is not.
Thankyou to NetGalley, Amazon Publishing UK and the author, Alan McDermott, for the opportunity to read a digital copy of Run And Hide in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
This book was an enjoyable thriller. It was an easy read with characters that are engaging.
Worth a read for fans of the genre.
I really liked this book. The action was great and kept the plot moving forward, which held my interest in the book. I can easily see more books involving the main characters. Well-written & action-packed.
Book Reviews - "Run and Hide" eBook was published in 2018 and was written by Alan McDermott (http://www.alanmcdermottbooks.co.uk). Mr. McDermott has published nine novels. This is the first in his "Eva Driscoll" series.
I categorize this novel as ‘R’ because it contains scenes of Violence and Mature Language. The story is set in the contemporary US. The primary characters are CIA agent Eva Driscoll and former Spec Ops operative Rees Colback.
Driscoll's brother had been part of the same team Colback had served with. Now only Colback is still alive and someone wants him dead. Only through Driscoll's assistance has he avoided those that are pursuing him. Now they are both on the run. But who is it behind the orders to kill them? Slowly they discover that a powerful, wealthy cadre is after them. They can either run for the rest of their lives, or they can fight back.
I thoroughly enjoyed the 6.5 hours I spent reading this 300-page thriller. I liked the characters created for the novel as well as the plot. There is quite a bit of action in the story and it is left with a cliff-hanger ending that guarantees a sequel. I certainly will be looking for one. I have read a couple of other novels by McDermott and I have found all of them consistently good. I am not a fan of the cover art. I give this novel a 4 out of 5.

“Run and Hide” by Alan McDermott is not a bad book, but it wasn’t a book for me. It will appeal to fans of action movies where the main protagonist has nearly inhuman skills and superpowers. If you enjoyed watching adventures of Jack Reacher or James Bond and similar movies, you will probably enjoy reading this book as well. It offers nonstop action, fights and pursuits. This book may also appeal to fans of conspiracy theories and to people, who like to imagine that there are secret societies of chosen few who want to rule the world. For me this book wasn’t interesting. I like more substance and real emotions in the books I read. Still, this novel may appeal to many readers.
I received "Run and Hide" from the publisher via NetGalley. I would like to thank the author and the publisher for providing me with the advance reader copy of the book.
his thriller about a sister finding her brother's killer seemed a little too "out there." I felt that the author's imagination was working a little too hard for the storyline.
Eva Driscoll is used to chasing down bad guys, but now the bad guys are chasing her. She knows they won’t stop until she’s dead.
After her brother is killed in a faked suicide, Driscoll teams up with ex-soldier Rees Colback, the one person who can help her find answers. Together they’re determined to uncover why members of his Special Forces squad are dying in mysterious circumstances.
But with every agency in the country in hot pursuit, their only choice is to flee.
The clock is ticking. They can’t run forever. It’s time to make a choice: kill or be killed…
This is a fast paced political thriller. Eva is a badass who is going to take down the one club in the US who has all the power and money. In fact they are in charge of White House, judges, police, media, etc. As she makes a team of her own then the Club is also ready to tke her down and willing to kill innocent bystanders to get her.
I received this from NetGalley for an honest review.
A fast paced thriller which keeps you enthralled every step of the way. Personally, I loved the pace and the subject matter. The ESO group with the whole of the world in its vulture-like talons holds the very governments and security forces in its grasp. How long can anyone go against them when the odds are so badly stacked? Well, quite a time if you've Eva Driscoll on your side! She's quite a woman and always thinks one step ahead of the bad guys except for when she did the bidding of the ESO group, albeit unwittingly. However, when her brother is killed and his former forces buddy Rees Colback is almost taken down in New York, she starts to put the pieces together aided by her far sighted friend Farooq who postulates that the ESO is at the heart of the conspiracy theory he once told her about. The ESO group doesn't like its long term plans thwarted, so engineer a way to tidy up loose ends using the fire power of the CIA. A game of cat and mouse begins.
Given the ending of the novel, I'm sure we haven't heard the last of Driscoll or the ESO group.
Sonny and Len were my favorite part of the book. This was an interesting start to a new series, and while I did not find it as gripping as some other reviewers did, I enjoyed it and would like to read more from Mr. McDermott.
This story had me gripped from the beginning. It was very well written, and the central characters were somewhat larger than life, but this added to the telling of the story. The characterisation was very good, and the story of the main character Eva Driscoll, who unexpectedly finds herself on the wrong side of U S security agencies, was thought provoking. Conspiracy theorists would probably find this tale all too plausible. A real page turner, difficult to put down, and very enjoyable. Recommended without hesitation. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book.
Can't wait for the next one. Always like a strong, kickass woman. She is working on uncovering a corrupt banking system. Although she is a target of the system, she manages to recruit assistance and bring the corruption out of the shadows.
This reminds me of the Dean Knootz, Jane Hawk series.
Exciting political thriller that makes you wonder if maybe it could be true. A secret, behind the scenes bureaucracy, scary. An excellent read written by an exceptional author. Alan McDermott writes with authority!
A great thriller as this book keeps going from strength to strength. There is never a dull moment when reading this
This was a fast-paced thriller with lots of action on every page. It would make a good action movie!
This is a exciting thriller you will not want to put down.
Its the first book by Alan McDermott that i have read. I liked his writing very much. The plot was thrilling action that kept me reading until the last page was done.
The plot is about a mysterious underground organisation that runs America . In today's world it almost seems possible the way it is written and seems true to life. Members of an Army unit are being killed and the book follows the story of one of unit members and the sister of another after her Brother is murdered. This is a exciting read that I highly recommend. Thank you for the ARC which does not influence my review. Very well done to the author.
This was a fun ride and a good beginning for a series. I’d not read Alan McDermott before, so didn’t know what to expect, but I found the premise interesting. And wow, there's a lot going on here! Conspiracies, globe-trotting, suspense, nasty villains - all centered around a Sydney Bristow-style super-agent. She extricates herself and her motley crew through some pretty gnarly situations in some over-the-top ways, but that’s half the fun of this type of book. I may not have known about McDermott before, but he’s definitely on my radar now, and I look forward to reading more from him, both Eva’s further adventures and his other books.
Thanks to Netgalley and Thomas & Mercer who provided a copy for an unbiased review.
I received a free copy from NetGalley. Action packed, non stop intensity, with enough character build up to get you drawn in, and plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing. First in a series that I think you will need to read in order. I'll try and remember to read the next one when it comes out too.
