A fast and furious thriller with an engaging female protagonist in the person of Eva Driscoll. It is really refreshing to have such a strong female character in a genre which is so often male dominated. Excellent work Mr McDermott!

This is a roller-coaster of a read in which Eva and her companions are hunted by the American security forces. Eva is trying to find out why her brother has been murdered and joins forces with his old soldier colleague Colback who it appears is also on the spooks’ hit list.

There are dark forces at work in the form of the shadowy organisation ESO who seem to control everything. Can Eva and Colback survive the hunt and find answers to their questions?

I raced through the novel and I suspect there is going to be a sequel. Can’t wait!

I received a complimentary copy of the book from NetGalley and publisher in exchange for an honest review. Thank you.

Intriguing story. Well developed characters. Lots od twists that will keep you reading until the end. Makes you wonder about all the corruption in the government.

Run and Hide was an ok book. I was pretty confused with all the characters and the chaos and the action was non-stop. It jumped from one character to another and one POV to another. I had to re-read several parts to understand what all was going on.

I did like the way the author had a female badass as a main character. Her character was strong and smart.

I would probably give this author another chance, this was the first book of Alan McDermott's that I have read.

I thought there was good character development and I particularly liked Eva Driscoll and Henry Langton. The plot focuses on a group called the Executive Security Office (ESO) who is the power behind the White House, controls the media (both liberal and conservative media), decides when and where wars occur, controls the global money supply, chooses the American president (usually), causes financial crises, etc. The ESO has arranged the death of Jeff Driscoll (Eva's brother) and is seeking to eliminate Rees Colback, former Green Beret and friend of Jeff Driscoll. The book starts off with an attempted kidnapping of Colback foiled by Driscoll and the chase continues from there, with the motive for the death of Jeff Driscoll and the attempted kidnapping of Colback slowly being revealed.. The "small group of rich white men essentially ruling the world" plot line is somewhat tired, but the author manages to make it work through the characters he created and the specific details of the ESO plot and how it has to be altered by the unexpected interference of Eva Driscoll, a rogue CIA agent. There are some unexpected plot twists that liven things up. If you like thrillers, conspiracies, and a protagonist with a dark side, this book is for you.

First book I've read by this author and I will be reading the rest of his books now. Fast paced, action filled, on the edge of your seat ride. Well written, characters developed beautifully. Imagery written to encapsulate you within the world of this book.

I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised at how well written this female MC was. Usually, when reading a spy book with a femal MC, she starts off strong and independent but ends up needing a "knight in shining Kevlar" to save her in the end or fulfill her emotionally. Eva didn't need anyone. She's a consistent character throughout the book, never wavering in her strength or ferocity. She's the backbone of a team that consists of four other incredibly talented men all looking towards her for leadership. It was a refreshing take on a spy novel and I loved the inclusion of the complicity of heads of state, finance and government with a scandal spanning all depths across the nation. It geniously intertwined classic political scandal with modern social media influence. I hope there is more Eva in the future.

Generally I avoid giving feedback unless I can say something positive, but I'm going to make an exception for this book. It is simply so awful that every reader who appreciates a good thriller needs to be warned off. I've given it two stars rather than one in recognition of the near miracle that somebody actually got this piece of crap published.

CIA wet work specialist Eva Driscoll and her long-time geek buddy Farooq Naser combine forces in an effort to find the killers of her brother, joined by a couple of Brit spook friends from the past and an endangered newcomer, Rees Colback. And Eva is going to need all the help she can get. The reach of her adversaries is world wide, and she is fast running out of places to hide.

This series is exciting. The pace is double time but that's ok, as it's a book you will find it hard to put aside. I can't wait for number two. Alan McDermott writes a fast paced tale with lots of attention to detail and his characters are well defined. I was pleased to see he has several novels out there I can catch up on.

I received a free electronic copy of this novel from Netgalley, Alan McDermott, and Thomas & Mercer in exchange for an honest review. Thank you all for sharing your hard work with me.

If you want a badass female on the level of James Bond (minus the sex), Eva Driscoll is your girl. Trained in the CIA, she is an assassin that wants to avenge her brother's death.

I found her to be an amazing character. She's extremely analytical, but also still makes mistakes. The other characters were great, other than Rees. He's supposed to be the one she teams up with, but after the first couple chapters he seems to be a mostly back seat character. And for an ex-soldier, he seemed reasonably stupid at moments.

Definitely be prepared for this to read like an action/spy movie. Some may not enjoy that, but for me it was thrilling. I kinda saw part of the ending coming though.... So here's hoping some characters are skeptical in the next book!

Non stop action. Thriller, suspense, mystery, government spies, CIA, black ops, off the books. Heroes! Black and white, good and evil? No , tarnished human beings, striving to do good, yes. This book has it all. This is not a easy run on through read. This is intense, adult book with NON STOP ACTION. I needed down time when I finished. It made me think, it made me feel. Some of it is plausible, therefore scary! Thank you for the arc and the opportunity to find a new author! All thoughts an opinions are my own.

When I started reading this, I didn’t realise this was the author of the Tom Gray series, which I read ages ago and thoroughly enjoyed, and this is no exception. I was pleased that Tom Gray played an active part in the story as I love a good conspiracy theory. It’s faced paced with plenty to keep the reader entertained. I, for one, am sure there’s more to Government departments than we will ever know. Why do we trust them, I’m think they are capable of horrendous doings!

This book moves along at a cracking pace, the main characters are very likeable and it really does keep the pages turning. There are quite a few characters in this book, but they all come together very quickly, and it’s easy to follow what’s going on. There is never a dull moment and it’s certainly not boring. It was a very different type of crime novel, in that the ESO were the criminals and it was like a James Bond movie, with Driscoll as the heroine.

Some readers appear not to have liked the ending, but really, as this was book 1 which other way could it have ended. I’m not saying any more otherwise it will spoil it.

Crazy good! Lots of action and drama. Clearly this author has either done his homework and/or has his own personal experiences that lend a credibility to this story and his passion for the topic shows in his work. This was a great read that left me wanting to hear more (and the end of the story makes it clear that more is to come!).

This felt more like reading a action movie script than a novel. Which some might enjoy, for me I was frustrated that I didn’t learn more about the MC’s. I felt like their personal stories were pushed aside to tell the story about an all-powerful group of people who believe they control the world. But the “heroes” we don’t learn much about them.
There are a lot of characters and at times it could be too much. That said, as you read you discover their role in the story. The problem with that many characters is as reader I never had a chance to connect with any of them. They all felt very flat and stereotypical.
The pace was quick and for the most part kept me engaged but I never really got into it. Personally, I would have loved to learn more about Eva. She’s an interesting character but we’re left with more questions about her than answers. I love a strong female character but I really wanted more of her. Her team. I guess I’m just stuck on the fact that there was not character growth. This is Mission Impossible with a female MC – if you like action and violence and don’t need the character details then I would highly recommend it.
Thank you Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley for sending me a pre-publication copy in exchange for my honest review.

Funny thing, usually the first book in a series is character development driven with the rest of the story as a background. For that reason, I usually give them a little leeway. Well, in Run and Hide exactly the opposite happened. From the very first page, the action started with a bang, well almost a bang, but you get my point, and ran almost non-stop until the very end. We learned very little about the characters in the book. Supposedly Eva Driscoll is our main character but we learned as much about her as we did the other characters. That would be fine if this were a 3rd or 4th book in a series, but as a first book it left the reader a bit on the outside. I did enjoy the story and it was well thought out and written. I just miss knowing the characters. Other than thinking Eva could give Jason Bourne or Ethan Hunt a run for their money, I don't really know her. I hope we get to learn more about her in subsequent books. I'll take the chance.

A high pace thrillers. Eva Driscoll, a CIA operative is out for revenge when her brother who was in the special forces was killed. Her suspicions over his death intensifies when other members of his platoon are killed too. Leaving one member left, Rees Colbert. Together they join up, using their skills to get to the truth. Good story, plenty of action. Fasten your seatbelt now!!

This is a bit over the top where the nonstop action is concerned but not as bad as some movies and books of this type.
If you like conspiracies you going to love the story. The conspiracies are well defined and not so far fetched that they could not be a reality. Just have a closer look at some of the world leaders and corrupt governments. Face it greed for more wealth plays a big role in some of the actions been taken all over the world. This book is fast paced so you will not get bored. I read this in two days because it was hard to put it down. The book itself comes to a conclusion but leave it so that there can be a following up to what comes next. I'll be looking for the next book and hope care will be taken to develop the five main characters more as individual personalities. Lots of possibilities.

I was ready to read a CIA-type thriller and looked forward to reading Run and Hide. The first chapters had a nice pace that kept me wanting to turn the page. There was just the right mix of excitement and character introduction that I like. Eva Driscoll is a strong character, which I appreciated, What started out "tight" started to loosen and unravel as more and more characters were introduced further into the story. It became too implausible about two-thirds into the book. At that point, my mind designed its own outcome, which was not too far from the truth. For what it is, it was a good, quick summer/beach read.

This is touted as book #1. Would I read #2? Possibly.

A very exciting read! Conspiracy, espionage, suspense and plot twists create a thriller you hate to put down.

Rees Colback has come to New York to take a job at a security firm run by his friend. After years of Special Forces and being in war zones he is ready for a quieter life. Yet, someone has different plans for him.

Rees self-preservation and training kick in when he is attacked on the street by armed men in a Black SUV. He is aided in his getaway by Eva Driscoll who picked him up as she sped by on a motorcycle.

This begins their alliance as they search to find out who wants them dead and why. As they uncover murder, lies, and government scandals they are led to the one man who is responsible for it all. But can they get to him? And at what cost?

Thank you Netgalley and Alan McDermott for a chance to preview this book.
