Pastor Jack McReady has secretly carried a torch for Daisy for two long years. She’s a member of his congregation, after all, and she’ll never see him as more than a trusted counselor. Jack’s best friend Noah has taken every opportunity to encourage his lovesick friend, but when Noah catches wind that Daisy has joined an online dating site, he takes matters into his own hands and orchestrates a meet-cute of the most unconventional kind.
Owner of the local flower shop, Daisy Pendleton is content with her small-town life, but she’d sure like someone to share it with. After several disastrous first dates, she’s about to give up—and then she finds a seemingly wonderful man online. Daisy gets to know TJ through a series of messages but finds herself spending more time with Pastor Jack outside of the church at the same time. What she doesn’t know is that her online prospect and Jack are one and the same.
Just as Daisy’s love life starts to look promising, a mysterious woman appears in town. Daisy is faced with a revelation about her family that turns her world upside down, and she looks to both TJ and Jack for help.
Jack must find a way to reveal himself as her online suitor without breaking her heart and losing her trust. As Daisy faces Jack’s betrayal, she’ll have to learn to extend grace to herself, her family, and the man she’s grown to love.
Jack and Daisy are both looking for love. Jack knows who he loves Daisy. But doesn't know how to express himself. He thinks he's too old for her and besides he's her pastor. What would people think? Daisy wants to find love. But where to look? An interesting read about Jack and Daisy as they come to find love.
On a side note. I am a pastor's wife and I could relate to how Jack felt about living in a fish bowl. Pastor's are human beings and have feelings just like everyone else.
I was given this book by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated in any way.
On Magnolia Lane by Denise Hunter is yet another fabulous read in the Blue Ridge Romance Series. Readers who love this series will enjoy seeing characters from previous novels. New readers will have no problem picking up this novel and starting here. The premise of the story might seem simple or familiar. But this novel is not what you will expect. Daisy is a complicated woman with many hurts from her past. And Jack, well he’s the pastor. How does a pastor fall in love? This is the cutest, sweetest novel. Ms Hunter told this story with such eloquence and depth. I highly recommend it. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.
Oh my goodness another amazing Denise Hunter book! It’s always sad when an author wraps up a series but like I love that Denise’s series are 3-4 books. You fall in love with the characters and make them your best friends. You can always just reread the series to visit them again.
I’ve had the privilege of being on two of Denise’s launch teams for the Blue Ridge series and it’s a joy to get an early read to a series you love.
I loved Noah and Josephine (read Sweetbriar Cottage if you don’t know them)
I loved Cruz and Zoe (read Blue Ridge Sunrise if you don’t know them)
I loved Brady and Hope (read Honeysuckle Dreams if you don’t know them)
I love Jack and Daisy.
In the background there was always Daisy and Pastor Jack. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on their story and where they end up.
Pastor Jack has always had a crush on Daisy but she’s member of his congregation.
Daisy is tired of waiting for Mr. Right so she’s started an online dating profile. Through that she starts talking to “TJ”. Who may just be Pastor Jack although Jack was set up by his friends (Noah, Cruz and Brady) and they nudged Daisy for him.
A tornado sweeps through their town and harms only one home for girls who are in foster care. Through a series of events Daisy is put in charge of helping raise funds to find the house so the girls can move back in. Daisy is also dealing with some repercussions of her decreased dad’s past that she seeks Jack’s help for.
Can Jack finally tell Daisy his true feelings and not hurt her feelings by telling her that he is “TJ”? Can Daisy see past all of her busiest to see that Jack has always been there for her?
You’ll have to travel down Magnolia Lane to find out!
My rating 4 out of 5 stars.
Daisy is a big hearted florist whose greatest confidante is her pastor, Jack. He's always there to be a sounding board for her when she has a problem she can't work through. But Daisy has no clue that Pastor Jack is secretly in love with her infectious personality. When Jack turns to an unconventional way to secretly get Daisy's attention on an internet dating site, emotions change and develop on a whole new level.
This book has all the feels! The romantic feelings are strong in this one. The message to be learned is also a great one. We all make mistakes and we all deserve grace. This captivating love story is a nice, clean read and is not one to be missed! Thank you so much to netgalley and the publisher for the chance to read and review this book!
Even though this is the third book in the series, I must say as far as favorite characters go, Jack and Daisy maybe my favorite so far. Not taking away from the other books but there is something special about these two characters who are a bit of the underdog in terms of types of people but have the personal qualities that make you want to love them. I’m glad these two got paired up because they represent the everyday person and seeing them get their hea really was worth the wait.
Like I said before, this is Denise Hunter’s third book in her A Blue Ridge Romance series. If you are not familiar with her books, she is a wonderful storyteller. Especially with this one, I really love how you can not only relate to the characters but she brings them alive where you feel a connection with them. When you get to know Daisy & Jack and see where the story is heading, you beg for that hea. There’s not more sweet that two good people getting a chance for happiness.
It was great getting to know these two in this book. Daisy is really nice and works really hard in her life. Some obstacles in her past set her back but it didn’t stop her from being a successful businesswoman. She has a huge heart but gets thrown a curveball with some revelations that changes her world. Jack despite being a pastor has more to him beyond that role. He has a big heart and would give the world to anyone. The problem is that each wants genuine love but are a bit insecure to feel their worth. Sometimes Mr. or Mrs. Right can be right in front of you and you just don’t notice.
When Noah mentioned one day he gave Jack a little help in that area by setting him up on a dating app, Jack nearly fell over. Wanting to encourage Jack to get out and meet people, he almost deleted the profile until he came across someone that made his heart leap. Daisy was no stranger to this app but never had much success until she met a fabulous man named TJ who she felt a genuine connection to. One problem, TJ isn’t who she thinks he is and is someone that she knows really well. Having an chance to be someone she can fall for, Jack is able to be the person he always wanted to but couldn’t in person. Ironically, some issues that are currently happening in her life has brought her into spend more time Jack. The more she gets to talk to him, the more she sees something in him. The only problem is, the more Daisy chats with Jack she gets torn with her thoughts about TJ. So when their worlds collide, will she finds out will this lead to the true love she had hoped to find? You have to read to find out!
Overall, this was a really nice addition to the series. It was nice to see some familiar faces visit the book. If you didn’t read the other books, it isn’t a big deal if you start this one first but there are some backstory issues that might give you a question mark. Besides, this is a nice series so back read. Magnolia Lane was a sweet story line that keeps you interested. I’m really curious about where the series is going to go. I know who I would love to see next but I’ll wait to see if it happened. This gets my stamp to add it to your reading list.
Another good read from Hunter! Daisy is falling in love with two guys at the same time--what will happen when she finds out they are the same man?
I received an advanced review copy of this novel from NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
ON MAGNOLIA LANE is, I think, the best book in this series. I absolutely fell in love with Pastor Jack and Daisy though I could see the black moment coming from the beginning. I love the unexpected twists with the stranger in the florist and the spiritual theme was very powerfully done.
More conservative readers might be bothered by soft swear words and dancing to country music. There is also the mention of alcohol, but no drinking by main characters.
I greatly enjoyed this book, and love the cover. Beautiful. I read the entire book in one day. Ms. Hunter is a favorite romance writer.
I got a copy off netgalley. All opinions are my own.
I love this Blue Ridge series. The place and the people are all becoming so familiar to me and this book felt a bit like coming home.
Poor Jack. You can't help but feel for the guy who has loved Daisy from a distance for so long. Being her pastor makes that line between confidant and potential boyfriend seem bigger than it needs to be but Jack sure has a tough time crossing it. Instead he dreams of what could be while Daisy is left clueless. No wonder he can't help but become TJ when Daisy starts responding to him on the online dating app. Poor guy. He really set himself up for a fall later but I couldn't blame him. Poor, poor Jack. He just loves Daisy so much!
Meanwhile, Daisy has so much swirling around in her life! No wonder she only sees Jack as someone to listen to her and to confide in. She really needs that from him.
I loved watching the transformation as Jack gained more confidence and Daisy became more aware. It was so sweet. This book was easy to settle in with and felt good on my heart.
Content: Christian elements (talk of God, forgiveness, etc.), kissing
- I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
On Magnolia Lane is the third book in Denise Hunter’s Blue Ridge Romance series. Or maybe the fourth—Sweetbriar Cottage isn’t officially part of the series, but is set in the same small town and features several of the same characters. Yes, the novels can be read as standalone stories, but this is definitely Daisy and Jack’s story and you don’t have to read the earlier books to enjoy it. But I know readers who prefer to read a series in order will want to start with Sweetbriar Cottage (which is still my favourite).
I found the beginning of On Magnolia Lane was somewhat slow.
It took me a while to get into On Magnolia Lane. This could be because I had high expectations (thanks, Sweetbriar Cottage). But I didn’t need to worry, despite the could-be-predictable set-up. This story was as strong as any in the series even though a couple of plot points ran the risk of being cliché.
Daisy runs the family florist business and helps out at Hope House, a home for teenage girls. When Hope House loses its roof in a storm, Daisy is given the task of organising a fundraiser for the house. She can’t do it alone … but help comes from unexpected places.
Pastor Jack has been secretly in love with Daisy for two years.
He thought it was a secret, but his friends know and they sign him up for the online dating app Daisy is using. The two begin a friendship, except she doesn’t know TJ is Jack. So when will Jack tell her the truth?
There were a couple of areas I was less certain about. Jack was a pastor and Daisy a member of his congregation. She’s apparently been going to Jack for counselling for a couple of years (although I never was exactly clear what she was being counselled about, and whether it was appropriate for a single male pastor to be counselling a single female congregation member without supervision, even if the office door was always open).
But the novel wasn’t really a “Christian” novel in the way, say, Sweetbriar Cottage was. Several scenes took place in the church, but the focus seemed to be more on the outward appearance of faith than inward belief.
That contrast was actually a feature of the book, as it came through in the subplot about Daisy’s father—the town mayor who insisted his daughter always act the part. Daisy finds something that challenges her perception of her father, and has to reconcile her memories of him with the lies. Because she doesn’t like lies. Jack helps her work through her issues, which is kind of ironic … And, of course, we’re always waiting for the big reveal, where Daisy finds out what we’ve known all along. How will she react?
Overall, this was a contemporary romance with solid characters, plenty of layers, and unexpected depths. Recommended for contemporary Christian romance fans.
Thanks to Thomas Nelson and NetGalley for providing a free ebook for review.
I love a good romance novel and this was no exception. Daisy seems easy to fall in love with...just ask Jack.my favorite are the small town love stories just like this one. She seems to not find what she looking for until she finds TJ aka Jack. This is the first time I’ve read Denise Hunter and it won’t be the last. Of course there are secrets and pasts to get over but this books takes you along for the ride.
Daisy works in a family owned flower shop with her grandmother and mother. While she loves her work, she's never had true romance. She suffers from dyslexia and has many insecurities. She meets with Pastor Jack who is helping her become more confident in herself. Little does she know, that Pastor Jack has had feelings for her for two years.
Pastor Jack has his own insecurities that holds him back from expressing his true feelings for Daisy. Then, one of his friends sets him up an account on an online dating website AND then tells Jack about it. His friends encourage him to contact Daisy from the account as his online name is JT and allows him to be somewhat anonymous.
A new revelation regarding Daisy's dad, her parents marriage and her entire upbringing leaves Daisy with so many disappointments and questions. She is able to confide this and so many other things to her online friend. Jack begins to feel quilt over misleading Daisy as to his online identity. Meanwhile, he and Daisy begin to spend some time together outside his pastoral office, and he falls deeper for her.
Great story! Love Denise Hunter as she never ever disappoints!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Thomas Nelson through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
On Magnolia Lane is another fabulous book by Denise Hunter. I’ve read several of her books and she always delivers. Her stories ooze with romance, the plots are authentic, and the hometown feel makes me want to visit again.
I adore this Blue Ridge series and I’ve grown to know and love its characters. Daisy and Jack are so dear, and their story is riddled with unexpected turns. Why have I come across so few stories with a pastor as a romantic interest?
Daisy is easy to connect to, and Jack was the perfect love interest for her (in my opinion.) With both lighthearted and tender moments, and plenty that made me sigh, this story is a success.
A good, clean, touching read.
The final book in the Blue Ridge Romance series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Thomas Nelson through NetGalley and Booklook. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
4.5 stars
Lately I have had good luck with reading new to me authors so when this book came up for review, I thought, why not? Plus I really liked the cover
I briefly read the summary and felt like it would be some nice light reading going into the holidays. I had a good chunk of time to read over the Thanksgiving break so I was eager to jump in and read this contemporary romance.
After two years of counseling sessions with Daisy Pendleton, Pastor Jack McReady has earned a permanent spot in her life as a spiritual leader—and nothing more. Jack would never risk losing her trust by exposing the depths of his heart, but he’s hopelessly in love with her.
Daisy loves her southern small-town life and her job at her family-run flower shop, but she doesn’t have the thing she longs for most: someone to share it with. Her recent foray into online dating has been a disaster—until she meets TJ.
Jack could kill his friend Noah for using his initials and some indistinct photos to set up a profile on the dating app Daisy is using. But when he’s finally afforded the opportunity to show her a different side of himself, he’s sucked into the plan before he has time for second thoughts.
Online, Daisy shares some of her greatest fears with TJ, but in person, Jack and Daisy are spending more time together. When a devastating family secret surfaces, Daisy knows that only her trusted friend and counselor can bring her comfort. Jack wants nothing more than to be both men for Daisy, but revealing his secret will prove to be the ultimate test of Daisy’s grace (summary from Goodreads).
So one of the first things that I was a little worried about with this book was that Jack had been Daisy’s counselor. When I first read that in the summary, I was like oh lord how awkward! Here is this guy you have been pouring your heart out to for years and all of a sudden he is in love with you. I would be horribly embarrassed and worried about all that I had said. However, after I thought about it some more, I was intrigued by this concept and eager to see how it played out.
One (like me) could take the stance that it would be awkward and embarrassing, but on the other hand, one could take it like—here is this guy who knows every little thought that I shared with him and he still loves me and wants to be with me. So I decided to go into this one with an open mind.
I was surprised to see that this actually worked rather well in the story. I could actually see this being a romantic comedy mini series or film or something. It’s adorable, cozy, and sweet. I enjoyed watching their romance come alive on the pages and it did read very easy and didn’t have a cheesy feel. The romance and humor were balanced and I loved how they both had to tackle forgiveness in their lives. I thought that element added a lot to the narrative and overall story.
Even though I thought that I would have a hard time with a pastor as the hero/romantic interest, I didn’t have any issues at all. Hunter wrote believable characters with real flaws and real feelings so I had no trouble at all buying into the romance and the story. It sounds like Hunter has written a number of other books, and I can see her experience in how this one unfolded.
This book is the third book in the Blue Ridge series and for me, I didn’t think it was necessary to read the other books in the series before reading thing one. The characters stood well enough on their own and they had their own story separate from the larger narrative.
I throughly enjoyed reading this book and it was just what I was looking for to read over the long holiday weekend. It read quickly and it was light, and full of humor and romance. Just what I was looking for. Readers should know that this is a Christian romance but I didn’t feel like it was a preachy read at all. Even if you aren’t a fan of Christian romances, I think there is enough romance and humor in this book to appeal to a wide audience.

From there, they started a friendship when they talked freely about each other and had gotten to know each other better about their own lives. She confronted Jack about what's going on her with her mother and how she helped create a fundraiser for the Hope House's repairs. Story Notes
Denise Hunter offers up a sweet romance that is reminiscent of favorite classic movies but with a refreshing new face and a good dose of faith.
Everyone is looking for love. Whether its a child hoping to hear “I love you” from a parent, a young adult hoping their new love interest will be the one, or an older person who just wants to hear a loving word from a treasured family member. We were created to need love and often find ourselves looking in the wrong places. Even more often, we miss the love that is looking us right in the face. That is the premise for Denise Hunter’s latest story, and one that I’m always a sucker for. Daisy Pendleton is on the look out for the love of her life. With her parents’ marriage as her measuring stick, she is determined to find someone who will walk life with her and love her like they loved each other. But so far, all her online dating has brought her is a bunch of first date fails and slightly jaded view of romance. Taking the advice of her best friend, Daisy decides to spend more time talking with prospective dates before she agrees to meet anyone else. Hopefully, this will be the answer to her dating dilema. Jack McReady is the local pastor and long time counselor for Daisy. As he has gotten to know her during their sessions, he unexpectedly fell in love with her. With her kindness to everyone and her willingness to help out with any worthy cause, Daisy is the kind of girl that Jack has waited his whole life to meet. But she’s never seen him as anything other than a friend and sounding board and Jack is afraid she never will. Plus, he’s her pastor and unsure of whether a relationship between the two of them is appropriate. Enter, Jack’s best friend, Noah and his creation of an online profile for Jack on the dating site that Daisy is using. “TJ” is Jack’s handle, coming from his initials, but this is not what Jack meant by “hoping to get Daisy’s attention”. Uncertain about moving forward with this deception, Jack prepares to delete the profile, knowing deceit is totally against his faith. But an incident involving Daisy has him changing his mind. As he tries to keep balance with his online friendship and his real-life friendship with Daisy, Jack will find himself feeling more guilty about his ongoing deception. And when Daisy receives some life-altering news, Jack will be hard pressed to keep his secret and give her the support she needs. But secrets don’t stay that way for long, especially when there are other people involved. Both Jack and Daisy will find themselves searching for a way to trust and love when everything seems lost. I enjoyed this book very much. It was not too busy with dialogue or situations and that made it a wonderful read. The tension as I watched Jack skate around telling Daisy the truth could have been “cut with a knife” and although I knew the revelation had to come, I was glad to see it was later in the story. I also loved that Daisy grew so much in confidence and faith as the story went on. She was so quiet and malleable at the beginning but by the end, she was a force to be reckoned with. She had faults of course but I was pleased to see that she was kind, even when she was angry. And although she felt deep hurt in several situations, she didn’t lash out to others around her. She would be the inspiration for other characters to accept change and that made her a wonderful character to read about. Jack was the typical Christian who thinks they can do the wrong thing for the right reason and everything will be okay in the end. He would find out that God doesn’t let us get away with sin for long before it finds us out. It was interesting to read a real life type characterization of a young pastor who let love lead him to act in ways that weren’t right. We always place pastors and other religious people on a pedestal, falsely believing that because they are called by God to ministry, that they are not also human with human emotions and faults. How nice it was to see Jack’s honest response to Daisy’s anger and mistrust was truly repentant and not for show. I was so glad to see how Ms. Hunter brought them together at the end and how everything was worked out. It was a well-developed story with excellent character growth and some good humor as well. It is my understanding that this is the third in the Blue Ridge Romance series, and sadly, I have missed the release of the first two. I can hardly believe I missed one, let alone two of Denise Hunter’s books. I’ll certainly be adding them to my “to-read” list and catch up soon. I’ll also be recommending this book to others, hoping they will find as much enjoyment in it as I have.
I received this E-book free of charge from Thomas Nelson Fiction via NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review. I will receive no fiscal compensation for this review and the opinions expressed herein are entirely my own.
"On Magnolia Lane", is the 3rd book in A Blue Ridge Romance Series but can be read as a stand-alone.
Denise Hunter is wonderful story teller and I love how she shares of God's Grace and forgiveness.
Daisy Pendleton runs a family owned floral shop, along side her mother and grandmother, with great passion, and love for what she does. But, Daisy faces a lot of insecurities and trust issues (several that unfold in the book) and goes to her pastor, Jack McReady, for counseling.
After 2 years of counseling, Pastor Jack realizes that somewhere along the way, he has fallen in love with Daisy but doesn't know how to tell her without scaring her away. Jack's friends decide to set him up on an online dating site that Daisy is on and not use his name but only his initials so Daisy will not know it is him.. At first all Jack wants to do is delete the account, but when he sees that Daisy wants to know all about him and chat with him, he stays on and falls more in love with her. All is good until she wants to meet him in person!
This is a very good read that keeps you interested until the end. I thank NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for allowing me to read and give my honest opinion of this book.
Wow! This is such a sweet and captivating story!
It did, in fact, reminded me a little of You’ve got mail. And that is one of my all time favorite movies! I love when people fall in love online and don’t have a real idea of who the other person really is...
This is the story of Jack, a community pastor, and Daisy, one of his parishioners. They have been good friends for two years, and Jack has fallen completely in love with her. But the problem is, Daisy only sees Jack for what he is, her counselor, spiritual leader, and unconditional friend. Jack is very afraid of showing his feelings and risking their friendship. Every one else is their community know they are perfect for each other except for them!
So thinks get a bit complicated when their friends set Jack with a hidden identity profile on a dating app that Daisy is using.
Jack wants none of it, and when he wants to delete his profile, he can’t help himself in responding to Daisy’s sweet message, and a new and unique relationship starts growing between them... Daisy is a bit torn between his good friend and this new sweet guy with whom she can trust everything!
I won't spoil the story. I’ll just say that it was a delightful read full of tender and sweet moments. Even some funny ones too!
The plot has twists that will keep you reading and wanting to know how it will all end!
I loved the characters! Denise Hunter has a way of letting you inside their minds and feelings. My heart rooted for this couple!
And Jack was a swoon worthy hero!
I received a copy of this book from Thomas Nelson via NetGalley and this is my voluntary and honest opinion.
I have been reading Denise Hunter's books on and off since last year. On Magnolia Lane follows the pattern of many of her other romance novels - man and woman are friends and the friendship turns into something more. This one take the sweet love story a bit deeper but always has a good message. These are the books I like to pick up when I need a lighthearted romance.
This is the third book in the Blue Ridge series and this is Jack and Daisy's story. Jack is a pastor and has no problem speaking in front of a crowd or counseling one on one. Asking a woman on a date he has admired for several years, not so easy. He is literally tongue tied. When his friends encourage him to join a dating site he reluctantly does so and when he sees Daisy is on there he takes a chance . He wants her to see him as a man not a pastor up on a pedestal. I can understand why he did it, it was a way to get to know her and her him as just a regular person but deception will not be your friend in the end! I think I would have felt the same way as Daisy did when she finds out it was him. No one is worth putting on a pedestal, none of us deserve it. We all are just humans, make mistakes and have our many faults. I loved that this took place in a small town and we get to revisit characters from past books in this series and that we are already familiar with Jack and Daisy from the previous book. When secrets long buried see the light of day is forgiveness possible and can hearts be mended?
This is a beautifully written story, the author always takes us along on a ride of forgiveness and understanding.
