If anyone could be compared to Mary Poppins, it'd be Daisy. She rolls with the punches with such style and grace, and always comes up with the perfect solution to help the ailing, poor, and suffering around her. Even when Julia shows up to "turn her world upside-down" she handles it in a dignified manner and doesn't allow traumatic news or events to stop her from being an asset to the small town and its community members.
The story overall traversed the storyline nicely. A steady pace of peaks and valleys, though in my opinion, most of the valleys had positive solutions and concluded rather quickly. Daisy and Jack, especially, were very positive in the face of most issues flanking the community members, as well as themselves.
I enjoyed the descriptions of the small town but would have liked to read more about the accentric community members, because every small town has them.
When I read Denise Hunter I know I'll always get a sweet romance with a satisfying ending and I truly enjoyed this one. I loved the angle of a pastor in love with one of the ladies in his church and all the obstacles between the two of them, from misconceptions to fear to bent truths. Looking forward to more from Denise as always.
This is a sweet romance about a young woman, Daisy, whose self esteem needs a boost. She spends a lot of time with her pastor who is counseling her and trying to help her appreciate her self worth. Daisy spends the summer helping others all the while finding out secrets that nearly bring her to her knees. Forgiveness is the theme in this Christian romance. We all need to give it as well as be the recipient.
This is the first Denise Hunter book I have read and I am an instant fan. What a blessing to read an uplifting, fun and heartfelt romance with no reason to cringe anywhere in the book. Daisy and Jack are real-life characters with honest characteristics and problems. How they are handled is a delight and left me feeling better about the goodness of people in this often difficult world in which we live. I'm going to go get the other books in the trilogy and I'm confident I will enjoy them.
Picking up a Denise Hunter novel is always a delight and On Magnolia Lane is no exception. As part of the blue ridge romance series, we see favourites from the previous novels whilst focusing on Jack and Daisy. The romance between them is the driving force keeping the pages turning swiftly but, understanding others without preconception and judgement as well as forgiveness of others and oneself gives the story it’s interest and humanity. Living out Christianity is a part of each character and a highlight of the book for me. I thoroughly enjoy my escape to this beautiful town and these lovely people, it’s a five out of five on the en-JOY-ment scale! I highly recommend it!
“I wish you could climb inside my head right now and know all the wonderful things I think about you. Then you’d know I could never get bored with you, and you’d see why I love you so very much.” What woman wouldn’t swoon over that?
This fabulous line comes from hunky pastor Jack McReady. If you’ve been reading Denise Hunter’s Blue Ridge Romance series since the beginning, you’ve probably fallen in love with Pastor Jack, and you’ll love him even more by the end of the book.
On Magnolia Lane has a little more comedy than the previous books, but still deals with some serious issues like how we put people on pedestals and how we let our insecurities affect us in negative ways. Both Jack and the heroine Daisy Pendleton have negative self-images, which cloud their ability to see what is right in front of them.
It's a clean romance with Christian overtones that isn't preachy, and a delightful conclusion to the series.
the is an excellent book. Once I started reading I didn't want to put it down. I highly recommend reading this book. You will be so glad you did.
Daisy has a crush on Jack but he is her counselor and pastor. Jack has had a crush on Daisy since he 1st met her.. Daisy is using an on-line dating service, Jack's friends sign him up, he plans on deleting his account but....
Don't miss this book it is a keeper and a read again.
Thank you netgalley and Thomas Nelson for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
A heartwarming contemporary romance in a cozy small town setting! This delightful story starts out with a fun rom-com feel, then hits on some deep issues. The third book in the Blue Ridge series, this easily reads as a standalone.
"Unrequited love was awful. No wonder there were so many country songs about it."
I was quickly smitten with Pastor Jack and felt for him in his crush on the cheerful Daisy, owner of a flower shop. What a cute pair they made when it all played out, but man, they had some big ruts in the road to get there. They're both so nice, yet very real in their struggles of singleness and living out their faith. Deep issues are raised surrounding Daisy's parents, plus the dilemma Jack finds himself in. Putting people on a pedestal is a set up for a lot of hurt sometimes. It created a perfect way to show the need for grace and forgiveness, for ourselves and others. Another important issue involved learning disabilities, and how childhood problems can carry over a negative influence into adulthood.
Highly recommend for fans of contemporary Christian romances. An instant add to my favorites list. A solid five star read!
Denise Hunter always creates an enjoyable romance sprinkled with spiritual truth. While the second book in this series remains my favorite, I enjoyed reading Jack and Daisy's story. Hunter always draws you in and lets you "feel" her character's emotions.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Thomas Nelson through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Denise Hunter ends her Blue Ridge Romance trilogy with Pastor Jack and Daisy's story in On Magnolia Lane, and in my opinion it's the best yet. She's a master storyteller in the way her small town's come to feel like real places, her character's come to feel like old friends, and her writing keeps you entranced in the story from start to finish.
Pastor Jack has been falling in love with Daisy for a long time, but he doesn't feel he's in any right place to do anything about it. He's quite a bit older than her, she's a member of his congregation, and he doesn't feel it would be respectful for him to try to pursue her. Daisy has never thought of Jack romantically, but he's always one of the first people she turns to in a crisis. All of a sudden she starts to realize that her feelings towards him may not be entirely platonic, and she doesn't feel she's in the position to ever be a proper minister's wife. Plus, she has to admit that she's also carrying feelings for the man she's recently been talking to on a new dating site. With lots of odds stacked against them, Jack and Daisy's relationship is definitely not off to a great start, but only through following God's plans and purposes for their lives will they truly discover what they never could have expected.
While I really enjoyed the last installment in this series, this was definitely the one that I've been silently waiting for. On Magnolia Lane is right up there with some of Denise Hunter's best novels of all time, and I enjoyed every moment of it. Pastor Jack is one of the most humble, down to earth protagonists I've ever seen in a contemporary novel before, and I adored him on the spot. It was refreshing to see how he was determined to not act upon his feelings, as he didn't want Daisy to ever feel pressured or uncomfortable. In the process, the reader gets a beautiful love story that starts out as a strong friendship and builds from there, and while that's definitely one of my favorite type of love story tropes, this one went even further and gave me all the warm fuzzies.
In my review of the first novel of this series, I'd mentioned that I wasn't happy with the lack of faith content in my opinion, and I'm so happy to say that isn't the case with this one. Jack and Daisy both strongly rely on their faith, especially in the midst of obstacles, family secrets, and community troubles that are thrown their way, and they both insist on serving the Lord in whatever means they are humbly able to.
I can't possibly recommend this one enough, and I think that everyone who picks it up is going to fall head over heels for Jack and Daisy.
Final Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is the fourth and final book in the Blue Ridge Romance Series by Denise Hunter, and we finally get a front row seat to witness if anything will blossom between Pastor Jack McReady and Daisy Pendleton, as we've been suspecting for awhile now! Jack has been carrying a secret torch for Daisy for a long time, but hadn't been sure how to cross the pastor/congregant barrier between them.
Unfortunately, our eager anticipation was met with disappointment. Although the storyline had the right plots for a page-turning, late night read (like secret online identities and mysterious people with shocking revelations), this one just failed to grab our attention until about 75% of the way through, and the story never delved into complexities of life. Hard issues were present in the story like dyslexia, infidelity, and abandonment, but these readers unfortunately didn't *feel* what the characters were supposed to have felt. We didn't feel invested in it. Everything kind of stayed at the surface, followed by quick and easy resolutions.
If you are looking for a quick, lighthearted, predictable read, this series may entertain you. In fact, we just gave 4.5 stars to the previous book! But unfortunately, one book cannot carry an entire series, and that's what is going on here. Denise Hunter is one of our favorite authors, however, so we would recommend one of her older series to read (check out our list!) and will look forward to the start of her next series.
My love of Denise Hunter books started back in 2016. This is now my 11th book that I’ve read by her. So it’s safe to say that I love everything she writes. This book did not disappoint. After finishing Honeysuckle Dreams I didn’t know how I was going to last until November for this book to come out. So I was really excited to get approved on NetGalley to read this book early!
This book follows Jack and Daisy, which we have met in the previous two books. In the past two books we have already been able to feel their love connection and it was a great book to see them grow and blossom. Jack has been unsure of pursuing Daisy because of their age difference and him being a pastor. So of course his friends step in and sign him up for a dating app that they know Daisy is on. I loved reading all of their little interactions because it reminded me of my relationship with my husband. We met online too. I actually screen shot one of their interactions to show my husband and his response was “that was totally us.”
I also liked that the relationship wasn’t an overnight romance. They knew they had a connection, but it had to develop over time because they were both a little nervous about the other. Both Jack and Daisy look to God in their moments of need, which they both had to do throughout the book. Daisy had a lot of other things going on in her life that she had to overcome first before she could really prioritize her romantic relationship. She was really put to the test in this book. She had a lot to learn about forgiveness, which is a nice reminder to us all.
I always appreciate the small town connections in Denise Hunter’s books. The community came out in full force this book. The concert was a really fun scene. It showed that a little effort can go a long way.
I have a feeling who the next couple will be for the next book and I’m so excited!!!!
On Magnolia Lane made me feel like my heart was full by the end. It’s got love, friendship, community, forgiveness, sisterhood, and so much more. If you haven’t given Denise Hunter a chance yet, please what are you waiting for?
I love stories that are a little out of the ordinary.
Daisy is a wonderful character, she has no clue what a wonderful person she is. She thinks that there is something she is lacking. She is so busy searching for Mr. Right that she almost misses who is right in front of her.
The family discoveries add a whole other dimension to the story, made it very interesting. Took the readers mind off of the love story for a moment and into some serious soul searching. Makes you wonder what you'd do if thrown a curve like that.
I am alway excited to see a book by an author I like available on NetGalley. I appreciate NetGalley for providing me with a copy in exchange for my honest review.
I loved the story and hope you pick up a copy. It is a good romance or inspirational romance. So if that type of book is what you are looking for, this one is a good fit.
Light and gratifying. This novel reminds me of the things that matter most: inner peace, forgiveness, and cherishing family and friends. Thanks to Thomas Nelson and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
Written with sensitivity and emotion, On Magnolia Lane is a breath of fresh air for the contemporary Christian romance genre! Readers who love Debbie Macomber and Jan Caron’s Mitford series will shout “hurrah” as they begin this well-written story of love and family betrayal. Daisy is the town florist and Pastor Jack, her church pastor. Both characters learn the steps to everlasting love while also learning that they are sometimes covered in painful potholes of emotional growth. The characters are sweet and captivating, the plot is realistic and genuine. I loved this book and highly recommend it!
On Magnolia Lane by Denise Hunter will be available November 6, 2018 from Thomas Nelson--Fiction. An egalley of this book was made available by the publisher in exchange for a honest review.
'Sometimes you just have to extend a little grace to people. Not because they deserve it...but because we don't deserve it either.'
Denise Hunter visits her Blue Ridge Romance series again with this third offering and, in my opinion, the best yet.
Pastor Jack McReady has been in love with Daisy for a while now, but she's a member of his congregation and he feels that he doesn't deserve her. He's counseled her numerous times but still feels guilty about falling for a parishioner. His friend Noah finds out that Daisy has joined an online dating service and secretly creates a profile for Jack, using his first name so he will remain anonymous.
Daisy runs a small flower shop and is happy with her life. She does want to have a family one day, but feels unworthy of that because of a learning disability. But she finds a friend in 'TJ', the unknown friend on the dating site. She continues to be friends with her pastor, too. Then she is hit broadside with a long buried family secret and turns to Jack for help in his role as her pastor. She is also involved in a huge community project. Then, as they tend to do, secrets become unburied. Will these two allow God to plan their future instead of them knowing how it should go?
I loved this story so much. Pastor Jack was one of the most humble men I've ever known and Daisy is just precious in her personality. The premise here was so much fun to read. I loved it from the first line. "Jack McReady had fallen in love with Daisy in one-hour increments." It only gets better from here. I read this in one day, couldn't stop reading! Denise Hunter at her best. Recommended.
*I received a complimentary copy of this book from Thomas Nelson Publishers through Net Galley. All opinions expressed here are entirely my own.
I love Denise Hunter and her books never fail to transport me away to various places and this book made me want to find a small town to live in and start a flower shop. I loved the story of Jack and Daisy, it was a great story and you could tell from the start they were meant to be.
I loved that it wasn't just a love story, it was a story about finding family and forgiveness. It was a great book and a must read.
If you've been to Magnolia Lane before (via Denise Hunter) then you already are familiar with Pastor Jack and Daisy. He's had a secret crush on her a couple of years while she just thinks of him as a friend. Ouch!
In an attempt to try online dating Daisy connects with a guy she finds intriguing. Only problems is she doesn't know it's Pastor Jack. Meanwhile Pastor Jack IRL (in real life) and Daisy are becoming closer. Torn between two men she doesn't realize is really one and a mysterious new woman in town Daisy's life is turned upside down and she will have to dig down deep to forgive and find grace in this time of need.
Denise Hunter is one of those authors that makes me raise my hand and go, "Pick me! Pick me!" when they ask who wants to read this next book. I look forward to her stories and have not been disappointed yet. When I got a glimpse of these two characters back in Blue Ridge Sunrise and Honeysuckle Dreams I was so hoping she would tell their story. And it's a good one.
I love that Denise portrays Jack as just regular person who happens to be a pastor. He has needs and desires and wants a life just like everyone else. His story with Daisy is sweet and cute. The side story with Daisy's family is not something I saw coming but was written well in that not everything is worked out overnight.
I really enjoyed reading this clean, contemporary fiction. It's part three of a series so make sure you start at the beginning with Blue Ridge Sunrise.
For readers that love a sweet, enjoyable romance, this book will delight you. This is a leisurely stroll through small town living in the South. Daisy has always been self conscious of her dyslexia, thinking others were smarter that herself. Jack is a wonderful articulate pastor until he tries to interact with Daisy in a social setting. Both are wanting a loving relationship and marriage. Both love their community and serving others. Dyslexia, unfaithfulness, self-esteem, and social media apps are just a few issues dealt with in this moving story. Highly recommended!
