This was interesting and I finished it but I lost interest in it a little bit through, probably because I was thinking that this was going to be a mostly picture book style informative book which is on me. I should've looked into the book a bit more before requesting it, but it was still a good book regardless.
CLASSICAL NEW YORK: DISCOVERING GREECE AND ROME IN GOTHAM describes the influence of classical art and architecture on New York’s most famous buildings and works of art. Written by a range of experts in architectural history, archaeology, the classics, art history, and history, CLASSICAL NEW YORK demonstrates these similarities in such buildings as Federal Hall, reflective of the Parthenon; the Libraries at New York and Columbia universities suggestive of the Pantheon; the Baths of Caracalla impacting the form of Pennsylvania Station; and Rockefeller Center itself an imaging of Prometheus and Atlas. Offers an imaginative education in multiple disciplines as it reveals the roots of a great modern city. Highly recommended!

Thanks to Fordham University Press and NetGalley for the ARC. Opinions are fully mine.

I enjoyed reading this book, but it is not for the casual reader. The authors of each essay are incredibly knowledgeable about their subject matter and move quickly, citing many sources to account for each wonderful detail that they weave through their individual narrative. I read this book with my computer next to me so that I might more easily reference and research more in depth the images, biographies and timelines. I would have appreciated more images and perhaps a timeline of both Greek and Roman buildings which are referenced, as well as the architecture, art and detailing created in New York. Overall, I would strongly recommend to anyone interested in Greek, Roman or Architectural History.
