Another page-turner from Ms. Johansen! She is one of my go-to authors when I'm looking for something good and Vendetta delivers. It's fast pace and gripping story mean you have to set aside time you won't be interrupted for this one.
A great entertaining read! Iris Johansen always writes strong female characters who are independent, almost stubbornly so, as well as intelligent and excel in their chosen professions. It is nice to have someone who can write female characters that are something other than constant damsels in distress. This book is a fast paced action book with a lot going on as you have to figure out who are really the good guys and who are trying to take the characters out. The character development is decent although the dialogue could use a little finessing as the same conversation seemed to be taking place repeatedly at times. All in all it was great to see favorite characters reappear such as Catherine Ling, Cameron and Hu Chang, but the story is definitely centered around Rachel and Brandon as they fight with each other and against a common enemy to become a cohesive unit. A very entertaining action thriller, but I was left hoping the next story has a bit more meat to the dialogue.
I usually love novels by Iris Johansen and this is a good one, full of suspense captured on the pages. However, I found Vendetta repetitious at times which slowed the flow of the story.
The story itself is really great: a woman caught up in a past endeavor that caused a ruthless terrorist to target her for destruction along with all of San Francisco. Rachel Venable is a strong heroine and Jude Brannon is a super Alpha male that is charged to protect her at all cost.
Iris Johansen’s newest novel, “vendetta”, took me a little longer than usual to get into. Normally her novels grab me from the start and suck me into their excitement. This time it didn’t happen right away. It was several chapters before it really took off for me. I did enjoy the story and I was happy to be introduced to some new characters, Rachel Venable and Jude Brandon. The story centers on the two of them and their attempts to bring down Max Huber, the head of a Red Star, a terrorist organization with immense power. It does involve Johansen’s usual excitement and climatic ending. And we get to see Catherine Ling and her friend The Guardian from a previous novel. All in all it was a good story with a good cast. I’d recommend it if you’re a fan of Johansen. I received a free copy of this storu from netgalley for my honest review and all opinions are my own.
Loved Catherine, Cameron, Rachel and Brandon. I love that the women character Iris Johansen creates are strong. Catherine and Rachel have been through what no woman or human being should go through. And they have found a way to survive and come out stronger. They owe it to Hu Chang who’s taught them how to look within themselves to grow stronger.
I love the bond between Catherine and Rachel. The chemistry between Cameron and Catherine is sizzling.
Rachel will go above and beyond what is required of her to save someone. She cares for the people she is helping. She is what every doctor should like. Rachel is put in a situation where she needs to decide what she’s going to do and what she’s willing to sacrifice.
This is a page turner. I highly recommend it.
Vendetta by Iris Johansen introduces new characters in this story involving many characters who are all motivated for revenge. I enjoyed the novel quite a bit and am intrigued by Rachel and Catherine the two female lead characters. I really enjoyed getting a deeper look into the characters. Vendetta is more than just a good guys versus bad guys, save the world from disaster thriller. It digs into the deepest wounds and vulnerabilities of the main characters and has this reader doing some soul searching. How far would I go for vengeance? Would I stay in defense mode or offense mode once I knew I was targeted? What choices would I make to meet my goals and would they waver?
I like the romance between Jude Brandon and Rachel Venerable. The inclusion of Catherine Ling was great so that readers can catch up with what is going on in her life too. (Features her point of view too which is awesome!) The pace was slower for me than other Iris Johansen novels I have read. The beginning starts out pretty quick with an urgent rescue mission, then it starts to slow down before picking up again with strong action.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an advanced reader copy of this book for me to review. As always, my opinions are my own.
This author is one of my favorite suspense writer. Vendetta is well written with a plot that has many twists and turns. This one kept me on the edge of my seat. I highly recommend this book to suspense fans. I received an arc of this book from the publisher via Netgalley and this is my unbiased review.
This is the next book in the Catherine Ling series and I loved every minute of this fast paced thriller! Lots of returning characters and a few new ones, I really liked Rachel. Ends on a bit of a cliff hanger, can't wait to see what happens in the next book!

I was fortunate to receive this novel from Netgalley.com as an Advance Reader Copy, in exchange for an objective review. Carl Venable, head of the CIA terrorism task force gives Jude Brandon a mission as Venable dies. Brandon must keep Venable's daughter, Dr. Rachel Venable, safe from Max Huber. Before Brandon can get to Dr. Venable, her medical clinic in Guyana is attacked by Huber—the same man who murdered her father and kept her captive for months. Brandon enlists the help of Catherine Ling, Rachel’s longtime friend, to keep Rachel out of danger, but this proves impossible. Rachel and Brandon try to bring Huber down before he can destroy a majority of the United States, and in the meantime, fight their strong mutual attraction to each other. As usual, Iris Johansen doesn't disappoint and this is a great book.
As always, fast paced with a good plot and fun characters. I always find the dialogue awkward at times, but if you enjoy Johansen's novels, you won't be disappointed by this story.
I absolutely loved this book. Strong characters, edge of your seat action. This book got my attention from the first page and Couldn't put it down.
Carl Venable, CIA agent and head of terrorism task force knows he is dying and asks Jude Brandon to get his daughter and keep her safe. Rachel, A doctor and someone who has already gone through so much is strong and capable. working with the One World Medical team in Nalez, Guyana, narrowly escapes death when Max Huber orchestrates a deadly assault on the hospital camp. Catherine Ling, Rachel’s friend and protector, is determined to keep the young woman safe, but Rachel holds secrets of her own. Will Max Huber finally get what he wants?
I love being introduced to new characters but love seeing my favorites as well. This book has both. had a lot of twists and Turns and a couple of surprises a long with it. Looks as though the story will continue and can't wait for the next book.
I thought I would be lost because it claimed to be an Eve Duncan story but for me this was great standalone reading. I like the female leads who were strong but REMAINED FEMALE, High adventure and good times here.
No one writes strong female heroines quite like Iris Johansen. With help from fan favorite Catherine Ling, Rachel Venabal is looking for answers. Rachel and Jude Brandon have a dynamic partnership. Led on a twisted path in the search for revenge as well as answers, these characters draw you into their world and make you feel like you are going through it with them. This is fast-paced suspense at it's finest. With a shocking conclusion, this one will have you anxiously awaiting the next book.
This book was so freaking amazing to read! Both Rachel and Brandon are new characters, at least to me, I think. We also go to check in with Catherine, which was great, and really made me want a 5th book and beyond in her series! Well, apparently this book is #5, so hopefully we'll get more!
Carl Venable was a part of the Eve Duncan series almost from the beginning. That this book almost right off the bat ends up with him dead, yeah, that was a pretty big blow. His actions, while for the greater good, meant that he didn't always get along with our lead characters, but he tried his best for the best outcome for his country. So it was sad to see him go, and we hardly had time time mourn before some pretty big action scenes.
This book, we did get some Catherine Ling POV's. It was so great to catch up with her after the events of Your Next Breath, because things aren't the way that I would've thought after that book. So yeah, that was really great to read!
I had kinda thought that the informant was going to be the second in command guy of the bad guys. I was wrong, and who it was, yeah, that came out of nowhere! And yeah, it made the ending all the more better! I need to know what's going to happen next!
This book was so awesome, I loved reading it, and I can't wait to see how the overarching universe that Iris Johansen has created will continue!
Another great read by Iris Johansen. Lots of tension between the characters and a good story line. I like the Eve books better because I like the forensics and the facial reconstruction and Bonnie and Joe, lol. But I like Catherine too
I enjoyed the interplay between Rachel and Brandon. Hopefully, there is a second book, because I want to know if Venable is still alive for real, and for them to take down that awful woman.
This book was another good read from the author. Although there is some mystery and suspense in this book, I found it more closely to be a romance novel. Too much repetitive romance theme took away from the plot of the story. So for me this was not a five-star book.
Head of the CIA wants to keep his daughter Rachel, safe. Impossible, when Max head of terriorism already has had her imprisoned, and wants her dead Her father’s dying words were to Jude, can he fulfill the request, and keep her safe. There is twists and lies, wherever they turn. The attraction between, is heighten by the need to survive. A gripping story once again that leaves you to the end to find out. Given ARC by Net Galley and St Martin’s Press for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.
Jude Brandon is sent to Dr. Rachel Venable by her father Carl Venable, the head of the CIA after finding him dying from a bullet wound in Montana. Together, they must defeat Max Huber from destroying their world. We also meet familiar faces who come to help their cause: Catherine Ling, Hu Chang, and Richard Cameron.
Iris Johansen takes us on a journey from Guyana to Canada and the United States as the team race against time to save the world from a power hungry monster intent on hurting everyone and everything Rachel holds dear. I enjoyed the interaction between Rachel and Brandon as well as Catherine and Cameron as they circle around each other while trying to work together. This story shows how our past and the decisions we made influence our present and future. This is a story about revenge for past actions and the actions we take to exact that vendetta and the choices we make in getting there. It brings the twists and turns as well as surprises as these characters become the heroes in their and each other's stories. I look forward to reading more about their relationships in the future.
