This is a book about the Jewish Holiday Hanukkah. Rebecca wants to use Mom's dreidels for this years Hanukkah celebration. She names the dreidels Harry, Neil, Gail and Sheila. They are the dreidels that will perform during the celebration. Poor Sheila keeps falling but at the urging of the others keeps trying. This is a great book to introduce the Hanukkah Holiday to children. It tells the food, traditions and lighting of the Menorah. The author has capture the true tradition of the holiday in this book. The illustrations are very cute as are the dreidels. This book is good for children 5+.

With a pleasing color palette, this adeptly-illustrated Jewish holiday tale is a delight. It’s almost time for Hanukkah. Rebecca wants to get ready for the festivities by teaching her four dreidels to dance. She names her dreidels after the four Hebrew letters that appear on the sides of each one (nun, gimmel, hey, and shin, which are the first letters of Hebrew words that mean “a great miracle happened there”). Neil Nun, Gail Gimmel, and Harry Hey are able to spin and dance—but Sheila Shin has some issues getting with the program. Ultimately, of course, after much practice, she’s able to perform with the other dreidels at the family Hanukkah celebration. A sweet story. Five stars!

Cute story! Nice addition to a collection of Hanukkah stories. if the illustrations are as good as on the cover, it's a lovely book, indeed! I also liked that it explained Hanukkah at the end of the book.

Hanukkah is a Jewish holiday that celebrates a time in Jewish history when the menorah lamp in the Temple only had a small bit of oil in it. Miraculously, the oil lasted for 8 days and the Jewish people celebrate the Festival of Lights for 8 days with special food such as potato pancakes with sour cream and doughnuts.

Children play a special game with dreidels (four sided tops with Hebrew letters on each side.)

A little girl has some special dreidels that were her mothers that she named for their Hebrew letters: Sheila Shin, Neil Nun, Harry Hey and Gail Gimel.
Every Hanukkah Sheila used her dreidels to make them spin, but Sheila Shin couldn’t spin very long.
