I loved this book. It is a great coming of age story. In some ways it reminds me of Mercedes Lackey's Alta series. The heroine over comes self doubt to be a great leader. I love this setting of this world and the characters really make you feel.
Lila, the Chief's adopted daughter, is a dragon rider. Lila along with her magician friend Danu and their bonded dragon, Crux have another adventure ahead. Contacted by Danu's old mentor they fly to help the witches under siege. While there they find more clues to the master plan of the evil threatening their world.
Disclaimer 1: I did not read the first book.
Disclaimer 2: I watched How to Train Your Dragon just before I started this book so I keep thinking the first book is like How to Train Your Dragon.
I liked this book. It was a little confusing at first due to disclaimer 2 but it can hold its own once I got going. I like how both Danu and Lila are struggling and growing together. Crux with his wisdom and ego. I do love Crux.
My only complaint was I wish there was more interaction between Pela and Lila but that could have happened in the first book. This was a fun read.
So i'm not going to lie I clicked this book completely based on the cover!
Once downloaded I realized it was the second in the series but found the first book with no problem on my kindle. This picks up from book one easily and I just loved the dragons and plot. I don't want to give away much for those who haven't read the first book yet but see this on net galley as I did, but it was a great read and the final one is releasing soon!
I received this novel from net galley and the publisher for an honest review. Thank you!!
This novel was a good continuation from the first book in the series. It continues where the last left off, with Lila, Danu, and Crux trying to stop Havick, Lila's uncle, who has stolen the throne and killed her parents and Ohotto, a witch who betrayed the West Witches. Havick and Ohotto are working together, using the Sea Crown and her dark magic to bring forth the Darkness, a great evil. Lila struggles between being a Raider and following her destiny as the true leader of Roskilde. Trying to find allies is challenging, since most do not want to change their way of life, not realizing that the evil is a greater threat. Lila, Danu, and Crux share a dragon bond,. Danu continues to develop his powers and Crux helps him. However, tragedies cause need for revenge, loosing site of the true objective. Lila and Danu each go thru their own trials that they must overcome, needing the other and Crux. They need to get the Sea Crown and warn Torvald of the plan to attack them before it is too late and Havick and Ohotto use the Darkness to control the world. I am looking forward to the next novel in the series....maybe a team up with Saffron and Bower to stop the evil from being unleashed.
