the something borrowed series continues with be mine, sweetheart, and it's business owner, kelly barrow's turn to find love. she'd found it once before, but her fiancé, ray, was killed in action and she didn't think she'd ever be ready to look for it again. but it's been ten years, and she's ready now. she's just not sure how her best friend, christian ryan is going to react. after all, ray was his best friend too.
but she doesn't expect him to keep interfering in her love life. she doesn't expect to keep thinking of him. she doesn't expect to see him differently than she ever did before. she didn't expect it to become so complicated with the man she's always counted on being by her side.
chris doesn't know why kelly dating gets him so mixed up. or, he knows, but he's not ready to admit it out loud. because the truth is, it's always been kelly for him. but he had ceded her to ray so long ago, and he isn't sure about how to take it back. but he wants her so badly.
but navigating the change between being best friends and becoming lovers is not easy. suddenly feeling like you can't talk to the one person you want to talk to all the time is frustrating and scary. both kelly and chris ride a roller coaster to their happy ending. and it's beautifully satisfying. i am really enjoying this series and i thought it would end here, but i can see where the author might decide to keep going.
**be mine, sweetheart will publish on august 14, 2018. i received an advance reader copy courtesy of netgalley/kensington books (lyrical shine) in exchange for my honest review.
Kelly looked up from the court papers she has and looks at her company’s and personal attorney Christian/Chris who sues someone for thirty two dollars and seventeen cents? Chris said “apparently Wesley James who didn’t appreciate you walking out on a date with him . Kelly said she was pretty sure she had a work emergency. Chris added Wesley had not apparently believed her as he was suing her. For the cost of her dinner and a Pirates Of The Caribbean movie ticket. That was one of the reasons Kelly hadn’t dated in eleven years, men were idiots. She asked Chris to make this go away and he answered with it wasn’t that simple Wesley wanted a formal apology and for her to be his date at his sister's wedding. Kelly had know Chris since eighth grade when he had come up to her and said his friend Ray liked her and Kelly told Chris his friend should take to her himself later n he did and the three of them had went and had ice cream and it had been the three of them together after that Ray and Kelly were the couple and Chris was the best friend to them both right up to HS graduation. Them Chris went away to college and Ray went into the service. On his first leave Ray proposed to Kelly and she accepted and they started to make plans for their future together. But Ray never came home , he was killed just before his twenty second birthday. Chris rushed home when he got the news and got Kelly hot of her grief stricken haze. Chris had talked Kelly into taking her plan of renting a bridesmaid and turning it into a business and it was because of him she had gotten a loan to start it. She named the business Something Borrowed. Then Kelly announced to Chris it was time for ehr to go on with her life and start dating again. Chris agreed with erh. But after a couple of days Chris found he didn’t want Kelly to start dating. Over the years Chris had thought about trying for more with Kelly but he was afraid what it would do to their friendship if they didn’t work out. Chris had been dating Cass for about a year but they had just broken up and he wasn’t upset he realized it had been a month since they had even had sex Chris wondered how he hadn't realized that until now. Hank Townsend was a very successful actor and had come to Kelly to do his sisters wedding. He also flirted with kelly and asked her out to eat with him and she declined. Chris was a fan of Hanks bit didn’t like him flirting with Kelly or the attention Hank was giving her.
I absolutely loved this book.It was a fun, easy, emotional read. I loved kelly and chris together and how they interacted. I was glad when Kelly initiated the first kiss and all that went on after that between the two. I loved the greams Chris had with Ray it just fit perfectly in this book and how close Chris felt still to Ray. I also loved Fungu and Pepper they also added to this book. I loved the pace and the plot. Happily I couldn’t find anything to criticize in this book. I loved the characters and the ins and outs and I highly recommend.
Kelly Barrow is the owner and founder of her highly successful wedding business, Something Borrowed. While her work always keeps her extremely busy, lately something feels like it's missing in her life. When she decides it may be time to start dating again, she isn't prepared for her best friend to suddenly start focusing on her love life like he never has before...
Christian Ryan has been close friends with Kelly since childhood. Being there for each other through everything, they have been the one constant in each others lives for a very long time. But, when Kelly announces she is ready to find love again, the romantic feelings that Chris has been holding back from their relationship are about to come back with a vengeance...

When Kelly lost the man she was going to marry, she immersed herself in her business and her friendship with Chris instead of trying to move on and start dating again. Now, that she has decided to open herself to the possibility of finding love, she suddenly can't stop thinking about the one man who has always been there for her.
Chris has always loved Kelly, but when his best friend wanted to date her, he put his feelings aside and vowed to never act on them. The love and friendship he has given Kelly since then has never been anything but his honest affections, and he still harbors a serious attraction to her, even if he knows they could never be anything more than friends.
I liked Kelly and Chris' characters, but they seriously drove me crazy with their indecisiveness and inability to share their feelings with each other. I think if they would have been a little more mature about their change in relationship, I would have enjoyed this book so much more.
This was a good read, but definitely not my favorite from the Something Borrowed series. While I love the writing of Cody Gary, this book did little to ultimately hold my attention.
I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.
Kelly and Chris are two wonderful characters. I loved this story so much. Friends to lovers thru sorrow and happiness is a great equation for a fabulous romance.
Codi Gary does it again with Kelly's story in the Something Borrowed series. She has given her all in creating her wedding planning business, but now she realizes that she doesn't have much of a life outside of the business. Her best friend and company lawyer Chris has always been there for Kelly, but he never shared his true feelings for her because of timing and also some pain in their past. Watching these two finally come to grips with their feelings for each other can sometimes cause your blood pressure to go on a roller coaster ride. The sparks of electricity flew between this couple who were so right for each other. I love a good friends to lovers romance and Codi delivers a fun romance in one of my favorite wedding planning series.
I received an ARC thru NetGalley in order to get my honest opinion.
I've been waiting for Chris and Kelly's book and it didn't disappoint. This is friends to lovers done just right. A great addition to the series!
Kelly Barrow, the founder of Something Borrowed, didn’t get the happily ever after she counted on, but she considers herself fortunate anyway. After all, she has a thriving business and a loving family and friends. Yet ten years after her heartbreak, surrounded by couples in love, she knows it’s time to move on—and the gorgeous actor who hires her for his sister’s wedding seems like the perfect opportunity. There’s just one problem. Her best friend and legal counsel, Christian Ryan, keeps getting in her way . . .
Chris has been a shoulder to lean on since they were kids, and Kelly never expected him to interfere in her dating life. She doesn’t realize that over the years, Chris’s feelings have grown beyond friendship. The timing just never seemed right—until now. And as the two of them work through the wedding’s inevitable surprises and disasters, Kelly begins to wonder if she’s been looking for love in the exact wrong place . . .
Enjoyed it
What I liked:
The writing style
The characters
Part of a series: Something Borrowed
Standalone
HEA
Epilogue
I look forward to reading the other books in this series.
This is the 3rd book in the series by Codi Gary. I feel like I was missing a lot of background story for Chris and Kelly's relationship and for Kelly's Something Borrowed business (I guess I need to read books 1 and 2). It was a fun romance to read, however I found Kelly to be super sensitive and prone to overreacting.
I love Codi Gary books, and this one more than works for me--good fun, good romance, and an all-around good read.
This was sweet and fun though not my favorite book in the series. I liked Kelly and Christian but, as often happens the characters that have known each other a long time, I didn't feel like I got to know them as a couple. I also had trouble deciding if Ray was really a benevolent spirit or something more sinister. Enjoyable but not her best.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Be Mine, Sweetheart is a heartwarming friends to lovers story. I admit, this is a favorite theme of mine. Codi Gary pulled it off wonderfully. There are two previous books in the series that I have not read, but I never felt like I was missing anything. I enjoyed this book so much that I will definitely be going back to read the first two.
I received this novel from net galley and the publisher for an honest review. Thank you!
I have enjoyed Ms. Gary's Something Borrowed series and I could not wait to read Kelly's story. Kelly Barrow is the founder of Something Borrowed, but has had heartbreak. He fiancee, her first love, was killed. She is a strong independent woman, but had not moved forward in her dating life. Christian Ryan is the lawyer for Something Borrowed. He and Kelly are best friends, for they have known each other since they were 13 and she loved his best friend. Chris has always been attracted to Kelly, but never made a move since she was his best friend's girl. Chris would do anything for Kelly. When Kelly decides to date again, it upsets Chris. He tries to distance himself from Kelly, but fails. Kelly loves Chris, more than friends, but needs to know if he loves her back in that way. Chris has trouble with his words to Kelly which deeply hurt her, for he has his own fears. I enjoyed reading them dance around each other until they finally got the sense to be open and honest with each other. A wonderful read!
This is the third book in series and I enjoyed it, I personally tend to enjoy Codi Gary, she gives you sexy without being nasty. This was Kelly's story the owner and boss of something borrowed. Kelly had lost the love of her life ten years ago and she decided it is about time to start dating. Chris has been her best friend for years and has been their for her thru the tough times along with everything else he also lost his best friends who happened to be Kelly's fiance, the three of them were always together. Chris has been attracted to her for a while but never wanted to mess up the friendship, Kelly has finally noticed Chris sexually and one night they give in, but Chris pulls back because he feels he was betraying his best friend although dead. So what happens do they give love a chance or give up? Grab a copy an find out!! Enjoy!
"Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review."
Loved this book very much. It had just enough sweet romance and the storyline was great! I highly recommend!
I enjoyed this book. I haven't read any of the previous books but I liked her characters. Nobody annoyed me so thats a win. I liked Kelly and Chris, of course Kelly's realizing that Chris was hot out of nowhere was weird and could have been written better but it was enjoyable.
